      I don't think it is better. It is it's equal. Simon and Garfunkal wrote the lyrics based on what they encountered then. It was more than a warning. Disturbed version showed the ignoring of the warning. They are both impactful. If you understand the 2 different decades they were performed. Both are amazing.

    David Draiman trained as a Synagogue Cantor.
    I would pick the music video purely and simply because the Conan O'Brien Show autotuned David's voice without his knowledge or consent.

    First part: Nice to see Henri back 😃😃😃 - Looked a lot more poised and in a better-seated position to enjoy - It killed me during Nightwish her strained to lean as she tried to watch over ten minutes of mind blowing music - Loved this reaction guys
    Second Part: What an awesome idea showing the original video straight after, hearing you both react between the pauses: Absolutely loved this part!

    Did you notice the musicians on one side of the water bringing their instruments by boat to the silent composers on the opposite shore? The sun was rising as they reached the other side. I feel like they were were saying that music bridges the gap in being able to communicate in person. I loved this remake even more than the original. Thank you for sharing your reaction.

    I completely understand your need to pause the video so that you do not get copyright blocked; however, after watching many reaction videos, you do not need to pause as many times as you did. You both did a great reaction to the best parts of the song, but you also paused during the best parts which made watching your reaction difficult and less enjoyable. This is not a criticism, rather hopefully it is helpful for your future reactions. :)

    • @lorgrenbenirus
      @lorgrenbenirus 3 роки тому

      Yeah but reaction also implies that they watch and react when they feel and share their thoughts, not just watch the video. And they're doing just that. So I have no problems with that personally. I can always go and watch the original video personally without any interruptions if I want to, but I came to watch this video because of their reactions. Thus to me personally this is fine :)

    • @smallblockchevy1022
      @smallblockchevy1022 3 роки тому

      You know right, that criticism isn't a bad word? There is such a thing as positive criticism, and although you claimed that it was not, your comment to her was in fact criticism, but it was constructive criticism, and there's nothing wrong with that. However, at the same time, it's sort of wrong to tell someone when they must or mustn't pause a video. Like Lorgren said, it's THEIR reaction, and it's not unreasonable to expect that they're going to react to it in a way that's most enjoyable/natural to them.

      I think too many people don’t realize what a reaction video is, if you don’t want someone else to pause it, than just watch the original music video. I think people are just lonely and want to pretend they’re watching it with a friend instead of a reaction from a stranger lol.

    • @amberrushing8914
      @amberrushing8914 3 роки тому +1

      @@lukeprocopio3584 I agree with you. Not only watching the reactions but also hearing what they have to say during the video is what reaction videos are all about. However, and this is my opinion, there is such a thing as pausing too often, which is what I addressed. I appreciate people’s reactions and opinions on music videos that I like. I have watched many. In comparison, this reaction had too many pauses for the reaction video itself to be enjoyable. Again, this is just my opinion. Some disagree with me, but others feel the same way.

    Sadly, they autotuned the sh*t out of the live version, the studio version is much better in that regard, you can actually hear him modulating the notes instead of them just jumping around.

    • @jk844100
      @jk844100 3 роки тому

      From what I’ve seen of musicians and singers reacting to the live version it’s only like one line that gets auto-tuned (I guarantee the studio version has auto-tune too, 99% of songs do)
      The reason the live version sounds off is because he was sick at the time which made him a bit nasally.

    This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs!
    David and his brother were classically trained singers. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer.
    Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about.
    The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them...
    Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it.
    Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan.
    Check these interviews with David...

    Lyrics add a huge dimension to music and understanding the artist's intent. I never listened to the lyrics of Genesis, but now I am. WOW. So much better together.
    This such a dark iconic and rich video that ends with hope and compassion. Never really heard the lyrics until their cover. This is a fantastic music video with amazing images. No one comments upon the images, the ark, the meaning as it relates to music. The instruments play a huge part of the visuals. No one explains the juxtaposition of lyrics (urban imagery) and imagery of forests. Very strong.

    I like the video with the pictures and words. There were so many images that explained things so well. The folks on one island had sheet music in their hands, but no one played and sang with their voice. The other island had the musicians who had no music to play. When some one remarked about the instrument graveyard at the beginning, and then the instruments were dug out of the dirt and people began to communicate. Our society has withdrawn behind tinted windows, cellphones, garage openers and fear, we don't seem to be able to talk to the person sitting next to us. We want folks to text us before they open the door to us. We type on our keyboards and phones to "talk". Simon & Garfunkel saw what was there in 1964 and warned us in good harmony, BUT we didn't listen and 59 years later, Disturbed WARNED us again, right in our faces, LOOK, see what has happened!!!

    Hi Ladies, This just landed on my page today, Decided to have a look & see what you both thought of it.
    Firstly, Very nice reaction. This song on a whole has so many meaning's So much was going on when
    Paul wrote it back in the 60's & To think his actual meaning of it Really shines in today's world.
    The Neon light was a statement toward the television & how we as human's were starting to lose
    our sense of communication, Move forward 50 yrs & Look at us now, The Cell phone would be the Neon light now,
    Reading Paul's thoughts/lyric's -
    People Talking Without Speaking (Text Msgs)
    Probably 90% or more prefer to send a text than actually calling to hear the voice
    People Hearing Without Listening (How We Reply To Those Texts)
    In most cases, People pickup/pick out a few key word's that stand out then reply,
    Never really understanding or hearing/feeling the emotions of the other person.
    As many have said, Paul & Simon's version was a warning, David's version was the anger that in all these year's
    We still haven't got it, Instead we've gone backwards just getting worse when it comes to communication in general
    Thanks Again, I enjoyed both of your takes on this & Decided to subscribe
    As far as cover's go Most don't really turn out very well but, Would like to suggest that you react to
    The Band Heart & Their cover of Led Zeppelin's (Stairway To Heavan) Live at the Kennedy Center
    When the remaining member's of Zepp are being honoured & are in attendance to watch Heart's version,
    Truly amazing!
    Also no pressure performing an iconic song in front of the band who wrote it, Thinking you'll be surprised &
    will enjoy it too.
    Take care & Always keep safe, Cheers from Canada

    I never quite understood why they changed the melody line a little bit about in the middle compared to the original. In my ears, it definitely does not sound better. Nor does it seem like a personal thought phrasing. Just as an attempt to put his personal stamp on the melody, which then still detracts from the original beautiful melody.
    Og mellem os sagt (og sig det netop ikke til nogen) så synes jeg, at arrangementet er overprætentiøst og forsøger at pumpe en enkel og smuk sang op til noget, der ikke er belæg for, og som ikke klæder den, men som alligevel vil imponere masserne. Næsten som at sætte et operakor og et symfoniorkester til at fortolke Se den lille kattekilling.

      I will have to agree that it did not work at all. I tested to see if I could avoid copyright block, but it was very unsatisfying, so I have not done it in other videos. So the good news is, that this was the first - and the last time!

    It was written as an anti-war song and Disturbed sang it as an anti-war song. I always thought Simon and Garfunkel had softened the tune too much.

    I may have been the first person in Denmark to ever listen to Disturbed. I remember discovering them on some obscure american internet based hard rock radio station back in the 90's before anyone ever heard of the word streaming. And then going to the local record store and having them find the album and then waiting a month before it arrived from the states for me to pick it up. I think a year passed before I noticed Disturbed turned up on anybody else I knews radar. Imagine that: me, a musical avantgarde :D

    Great reaction and observations. For me, one of the things that makes this more intense is that, whenever his face is shown he never blinks. Mostly he has a cold, dark, blank stare and sometimes he face is twisted in anger. I like the music video better than the live version because of the added visuals.

    You ruined your first experience of maybe the Best cover of any song . When you stopped the video Sooo many times, you didn't get to experience the extremely wonderful transitions, as they happened. If you had backtracked at each stop you would have improved somewhat. You will now never experience the first time reactions of this Great video.
    A shame, because you would have experienced a Much Deeper sensation, even more than you did... You can watch it in its entirety now, and it will be better, but you are now knowing what to expect. You would have probably had goosebumps and possibly tears at a first, absorbed, viewing and listening. ,
    If this was a pop song, it probably wouldn't have mattered.
    Hope this might help for future vids... I am saying this with love and kindness. Take care, and good health in 2021... C

    I really enjoyed your reactions! But I have one question. Why is it that so many good songs, specifically while making a reaction video, are being ruined? It's not the reactors fault, because it's their first time hearing the song. It also ruins the reaction, because they are reacting to the song at a higher speed than it was meant to be played! The official video they watched was running at something like 1.25 times the speed it should be, making everything sound higher pitched and faster than it should. It's like listening to Alvin and the chipmonks trying out their metal voices. I've seen sa few reaction videos, by different reactors, lately that were having the same issue.

      Depending on where in the world they are, the "Official" version isn't always available.
      When people in different jurisdictions do their own "unofficial official" uploads, a slight speed shift is very often used to try to defeat the copyright algorithm.
