Hey Michelle, great insights! You mentioned @20:11 about people, namely thinking types, that can be "Highly Sensitive" and mistype. Can you share some thoughts on what a thinking type would like that is a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)? Thanks!

Def the biggest mistyped letter is N/S. Which is huge letdown for intuitives searching for other intuitives, because you create an expectation that is unfulfilled, just be honest with yourself people! -ENFJ

tbh it depends. Just because you come to know that someone is intuitive does not mean that there is anything common between you people. In my opinion, if you find a sensor who shares same interests as you, you'll be satisfied enough.

I'm an ISTJ who has been mistyped many times on online tests. Most tests score me in the INxx quadrant and INFJ is a type I frequently test as like so many people. After being confirmed as ISTJ from Objective Personality and again from Meghan LeVota, I've come to understand that type better and realized, that what I'm primarily doing and thinking most of the time is Si, supported with Te.
According to your mistyping patterns, my common mistypes should be ESTJ, INTJ, ISFJ and ISTP. I have considered INTJ and sometimes test as one, but I've never seriously considered ESTJ or ISTP. Meghan LeVota said my second most likely type would be ESTJ and in Objective Personality, I was typed as MF SiTe BP/S(C). So this makes me rather ESTJ-like, since I have Te in my top two animals. So if you're going by cognitive functions, then yes, I do have quite a bit in common with ESTJs. What I don't relate to so much with ESTJ descriptions is the bad stereotypes of them being a super strict disciplinarian who lacks sensitivity and compassion. I suppose having feminine Te, would make me seem a bit softer in my approach with people while still focus on what logically and pragmatically works for people.
ISFJ is a type I have considered for myself since it also has dominant Si, but probably not as likely because I don't think I have auxiliary Fe. I've had problems grasping Fe in my life, especially in my youth and early adulthood. I know that in Objective Personality, feminine Te can superficially seem like Fe. ISTP I've never considered. Even though you're just changing J vs. P, you end up changing all the cognitive functions. ISTJ uses the opposite cognitive functions of ISTP. If you follow Keirsey, the two types also have very different temperaments with ISTJ being SJ and ISTP being SP. So in that way, they are very different. Whereas with INFJ and INFP, at least they both share the NF temperament even though they have opposite cognitive functions.
One other mistyping pattern that I think is relatively common in people is keeping the E/I the same but inverting the other three letters. So for example ISTJ --> INFP. This is because these types have the same 4 cognitive functions in their stack and are also both introverts. I know I relate quite a bit to INFPs and have had some other people suggest INFP as a possible type for me.
Finally, I went through an INTP phase. I don't know if this is common for ISTJs or not. Blame it on the intellectual and independent thinking anecdotes associated with that type that made me want to identify with it.

I think it's sad ESTJs get that bad rep because I don't see them like that at all -- i've not met an ESTJ who was dictator-like. They are normally silly, fun and engaging. They just really like their systems lol

So I was typed by my university (at work) but what they did is give us things to do not just take a test. In such an environment you just react as you are, so to speak. It's funny looking back because imagine observing this happen: sensors reacting in one way and intuitives in another for example without them thinking to hard about 'being this way'.

This reminds me of one type of aptitude test I took while in training for a call center job. I don't know what the test they were using was called, but we were split into 4 groups and I ended up in the "Technical" group with 2 other people. We were then given paper and markers and told to "make a ship" to represent our company and the services they offered. The other groups jumped into action almost immediately, while my group stared at each other confusedly, and I couldn't help but ask for more details. "What do you mean?" "Make me a ship." "What kind of ship?" "Just a ship *shrug*" "But... what... *confused noises*" 😂 I then suggested folding the paper into an airplane (as an airplane can be a type of "ship"), and drawing logos on it, but my group mates didn't bite.
My hesitation was with the fact that I wanted to be able to give the instructor exactly what she was asking for, but when it was clear that she wasn't going to provide any more guidelines or limitations, and she was leaving it to our imaginations, I wanted to be as creative with it as possible.
Anyways, I brought it up as an example of how people react differently and instinctively when they are set to a task, especially one with a time limit.

@@Amanda_D that's funny in the same session I spoke about. We were asked to plan a trip and the group I was in was stuck making a list. Like step 1 step 2 vibes. While another groups were speaking about all the places they'd go to. We were on some what will be need? What is the time period? How much money is available? It's funny because we don't realise this things about ourselves until they are contrasted

Wonderful conversation. I used to type as INFJ whenever I would casually take an MBTI test. The descriptions kinda related to me but it never felt correct. I couldn’t (and still can’t) relate to Fe. It’s just not who I am. After deep-diving into MBTI/OP, I realized I misunderstood the definition of Feeler and that misunderstanding affected my test results. Once there was clarification, I began to type as INTJ. I have always overidentified with my tertiary Fi, being a highly sensitive person. It’s important to know the definitions in MBTI/OP to accurately assess yourself.

I had a fairly similar experience. I never totally thought I was an INFJ, but I was tempted to as I've always strongly identified with my tertiary Fi while trying to deny it at the same time, and type descriptions of INTJs as cold, controlling schemers never suited me. Studying the functions helped me understand that I definitely don't use Fe, which puts INFJ well out of contention.

Wow - this is totally same with my case but I started with INFP when I first took the test - I was not satisfied with my type at all - then I took the test after a month , I got INFJ this time ... This was not what I was expecting then I took the test again and this time I made sure that I go through all the questions thoroughly - this time I felt that I am facing a new set of questions (although it were the exact same questions , it was just that I did not notice its details properly ) Finally I got INTJ , I was totally satisfied this time . I relate to everything a lot - specially the meme of INTJs

I am nodding the whole time here, loved this!
I'm an ISFP and the first four times I took an online test I got INFJ. Every time I thought I would get something else and every time it said "you're an INFJ" and I thought: NO! :D I just knew it wasn't right and I knew I had to have Fi. But then I got so confused because I recognised myself all the time in people who said they were INFJ and a lot of stereotypes of ISFP don't fit me. Also, a lot of people describe the cognitive functions completely differently, or prescribe certain behaviours to certain functions, which makes it all even more confusing. If you start with different interpretations of the functions and how they play out, you can interpret anything in a different way. Sometimes the types are also presented in extremes. "If you have this function first, then you're going to be terrible at this". Or the idea that "you can never type yourself correctly because you can't see what you're really like". I don't think that's necessarily true. Even though I still often start doubting my type because of something I hear someone saying about ISFPs or something about other types that I recognize in myself, I always come back to ISFP.

    • @PsychologyandChillwMichi
      @PsychologyandChillwMichi 4 роки тому +7

    • @JoyceMeng22
      @JoyceMeng22  4 роки тому +7

Yeah! There are a lot of traits/people associated with INFJs that are better attributed to ISFPs. I can see why you'd relate to INFJs. As they are often depicted as more Fi than they are, due to the sheer amount of mistype. You're incredibly self-aware to be able to know that you are ISFP!! =] so good job with that, Femke.

I have never once tested as INFJ on 16 Personalities or any other MBTI test. But i'm an ESTJ...so INFJ is about as far away as it gets haha. Edit: 20 mins in and you just mentioned that ESTJs are typically good at typing themselves correctly because they are assertive. Sounds about right. I used to test as ISTJ until I realized that I was just an extrovert who had social anxiety. Now that I know about the functions I realize that I am unmistakably a Te dom!

Very great video. A lot of people tend to forget that in the real world intuitives types can actually come off appearing more “dumb” then sensor types and sensor types more down to earth and smarter because a lot of sensors are book smart. a lot of people’s favorite celebrities are sensors and not intuitives. When trying to guess types I use to mistake sensors for intuitives until I started making them take the test and verifying then it started to make sense. ISTJs can be mistyped as INTJs and ISTJs can be mistyped as INFJs. It helps me figure out types easier if I don’t just look at their ego but the 4 sides of their mind.

(ENFP) I definitely need external stimuli to make a judgement. Otherwise, it's like spinning a bingo cage with no balls in it and expecting to get a number. For example, how am I supposed to decide what movie I want to watch if I don't know what's showing at the theater? That's kind of an obvious one, but that kind of process holds true for me for more abstract choices, too.

I've gotten typed as ENFP, ESFP, and INFP. There is the odd time I get types as ENFJ or ESFJ, but those seem to be on the days I'm very proactive. Most of the time though I'm very laid back and lack a severe amount of motivation to do anything productive.
I've also wondered if I'm an ENTP or INTP because I seem to think more logically when I'm talking with certain people, especially when playing strategy games. I seem to be able to look 10 steps ahead and consider several outcomes, while others can rarely see one obvious move in front of them.
Anyways, pretty sure I have Ne somewhere in my stacking because my mind and my conversations wandered constantly while I can see the connections. When someone wants to focus on one topic for too long, especially when it is an area of interest that I have little desire to delve deeper into, I can get restless. I struggle to shift the conversation though because I don't want them to feel like I don't value their thoughts, opinions, or interests. I'm pretty sure I'm a Enneagram 9, though, so that may influence that a bit.
I'm thinking I'm an ENFP, but when I hear about how motivated they are when they tap into their Te it just sounds like so much work to me. I've often heard they will come up with a new idea, like moving across the world or starting up a new business, without thinking it through, because their Te took over before their Si told them to focus on the detail. I would never do that! I more so like to fantasize about possibilities than feel like I have to put them into action. The fantasy itself is satisfying enough. That makes me think I'm an INFP, where their stacking is Fi Ne Si Te. So I would think of the details of an idea before I move it into action, but once it moves past my Fi and Ne and reaches my Si, I get so caught up in the detail that I realize it would never work out, so my Te never gets a chance to work it's magic. It's weird though, most people that know me at surface level would view me as an extrovert because I can be warm, welcoming, loud and dramatic at times. My family would probably say I'm the most "extroverted" one in my family with the exception of my mom, an ESFP. Yet, I can just as easily shift into the background and observe or get lost in my own thoughts though and completely tune out reality and go days without seeing people and not miss anyone...
Man, self-discovery really is a long journey. I never expect to write this much, but it always feels nice to get my thoughts out of my head. :)

I'm very related to the INFP or ENFP part, especially the Si comes up first so my Te would never have a chance to do its magic. This description is so me. And yeah my Te is really poor... I barely use them... but there's a time that I was in a graduate student association. In that period of time, I went full on my Te. So I guess my Te is still there inside me. I just developed too much Si…?(or Se cuz I scored more Se than Si)
Well... i don't really know, I'm also figuring myself.
      Good luck to you !!!

I think another common mistype is mistyping as the type that has your tertiary function as their dominant function So for example ISFJ/INFJs mistyping as ISTP/INTP or ESTJs/ESFJs mistyping as ENFP/ENTP. Also about the types that have the same auxiliary and tertiary function is they share the same mental Blindspot/POLR (7th function) which is very draining to use and a function that is just heavily devalued in the psyche of the individual. For example, INTP/INFP both have Se in their 7th function.

This is interesting. I typed ENFP in a book quiz 20 years ago. I thought I was E because I'm definitely a social extrovert. I thought N because I didn't think I was smart and capable enough to be S. F because I wasn't smart or logical enough to be T. And P because I am a whirlwind, all over the place person. I'm actually ESFP, turns out I am capable enough to be a sensor. Very interesting to see how others mistype.

Before I knew about the cognitive functions and before I learned that “tests” like 16personalities aren’t a good way to type someone I (ISTP) consistently mistyped as INTP or INTJ.
It was obvious from the beginning that I’m an introvert and a thinker - I wouldn’t have needed a test for that part, but 16personalities among others confirmed that very clearly anyway.
The iNtuitive side probably came from my reasonably well developed Ni which works in conjunction with my Ti (and Se) when I’m analyzing and trying to understand systems - which I’m doing most of the time.
And the Judging was probably a result of my tendency to plan certain things very thoroughly. I can spend weeks or months planing which parts to buy for building my next computer or years on how to equip and furnish my home cinema living room. And I tend to play out social interactions in my head beforehand. But I recognize now that that’s not stemming from a Judging predisposition but from my perfectionism and a slight social anxiety.
Knowledge of the cognitive functions however made things pretty clear pretty quickly: I’m definitely a Ti dom, so no INTJ, and I’m an Ni/Se user instead of Ne/Si (regardless of priority), so no INTP. Still I would probably get INTP on most online tests even today were it not for the fact that I now recognize the questions that would lead towards a N result and can modify my answers accordingly.

I took a test online to find that I'm an ENFJ. While learning about this type I come across INFJ with the common slogan as the rarest type. I didn't think much, but the more I learn about it the more it explains things about myself that I haven't realized that I could relate to in a deep level. But with a lot of people saying they're INFJs, until know I have this worry that I mistyped myself especially since MBTI helped me a lot with self reflection and it would be sad if it was all incorrect.

I'm curious about how trauma can fully impact typing. I'm sure that it affected my adolescent development. What I'm really curious about is, can a person switch cognitive proclivities or is it like stone and I mean later in life after all the furiousness of adolescence? For instance, a person with "multiple personalities," a condition called these days as disassociation disorder: are they of a particular type or not? I suspect few will have a good answer for that as sorting such a mind out is difficult as they keep sidestepping any inquiry.

The way I larned how to read the jungian code when it comes to P and J is.. P means your first extroverted function is a percieving function and J means your first extroverted function is a judging function. I later learned to associate J with introverted perceiving functions because it made more sense to me.

Yes! During official MBTI training they teach you that. :) They define J as showing your judging function to the world, your decisive, orderly and structured side. Whereas perceivers show their perceiving function to the world, outwardly seeming more casual, fluid, and laidback.

What I find interesting is that as an NE user, I find that in practical matters, I really hate being pulled in different directions. So for example, as a parent or a teacher whereby multiple people are requiring me to be physically present is really difficult. I can deal with things one at a time, otherwise I am overwhelmed and exhausted at the end of the day. But I can jump erratically from topic to topic if I am left on my own in my head I love it!
But if I have to be physically present listening to someone, taking in extra external information, and having to follow their train of thought and I can't just jump from one thing rapidly to another or on my own timeline I find it hard work.

I tested ENF/TP (equal 12/12 for T/F) on the official MBTI). On 16 personalities I get mainly ENFP (but also ENTP/INTP). Totally get what you mean about making space for Day to Day plans, and always making those connections in my head (so much Fun!). ... eating? unless I’m cooking for someone else, pretty boring and blah.
I just now did human metrics I just got INFJ 😂. I would never have thought that possible! I know INFJ and I’m not one! I don’t have their wisdom or intelligence (I wish!).
Went back and modified my original answers and I got INFP. Nope. My BFF is an INFP; I’m not nearly as sensitive or sad. Lol. She has said I’m Joy and she’s Sadness from that cartoon movie Inside Out; (totally creative movie, btw).

Just got to the end of the video, and I have to agree with Michelle that I find behaviour and cognitive/mental functions does not necessarily equal one to the other. We don't always look at the cultural behaviour of people and so on when we try and figure people out (at least online where its difficult to gauge behaviours overall).
Also I like to think that mental functions are hereditary, a bit like the ingredients for a cake that is passed down. And how that cake is created can vary, (Bit like the how you can vary the quanities for each ingredient and bake for different times- which can have a huge variety in how different cakes can turn out using the same ingredients).
It was interesting listening to you both!

I was very prejudiced against extroversion and sensing and also captivated by the INFJ mystique. But after listening to my very introverted roommates tell me I was extroverted, I finally looked outside of INFJ for other types that could fit and realized I do fit better with ENFJ. Learning more about the functions also taught me that S and T are still parts of NF personalities. Se makes more sense than Si. So that helped me decide.

I’m so confused. I’ve always tested ENTJ however I feel more INTJ a close second. I’ve tested in high school, college and now 2 online ENTJ. I’m a retired Firefighter and paramedic, in the process of choosing a new career searching For a good fit. My strong academic abilities often lead me down the wrong path. I absolutely wish I excelled in one area to narrow my options.
I would love to see a side by side comparison. My Ni and Ne apparently are almost equal. Se is definitely my week spot and it’s the only thing I’m certain about.

I typed myself as INTP for 8 years, because I thought I was introverted but actually my INTJ friend for 15 years said that I am no way an introvert because I get bored easily and my focus is outside (Ne). I thought I was an introvert because when I got excited, is not always socializing with people, but I like and got stimulated with something new. And I really hate to engage with a lot of people around me because they are so toxic and I prefer to just troll people online (but lately I going out more because online life is getting boriiingggg) 😂

  • @NicStride
    @NicStride 4 роки тому +9

I have a very hard time believing that only 3% of the population are INFJ, and would assume they're far more in line with other types.
I'd actually argue that the MBTI putting out that statistic is probably why it's such a desirable mistype, the rarity and uniqueness is a drawing factor, despite it not actually being real.
I'd speculate that the reason INFJ is such a rare type in the MBTI is that they measure social introversion vs extroversion as a means of determining ones lead function polarity, even if it's an observing function. If you ask someone with auxiliary Fe "Do you wish people would fuck off, or are they cool?" and they answer the latter, their whole type code now probably starts with an E.
There's a million other problems with the testing, but there's also reasons which might feed into the results being valid, but misleading, such as Objective Personality's concept of the IxxJ Box. UA-cam is very saturated with people who I type as INFJ, whereas my life isn't, and I think it's probable that IxxJs are very common, but they're too obsessed with controling their environment and perceptions of those around them, that they never end up leaving the house, or their comfort zones.
How are you gonna run into an official MBTI test if you never leave your damned house, INxJs?! :)
