    I'm ENFP but I get these flashbacks of the past sometimes. I want to reflect on it, but it's like my Ne doesn't want me to.

    Si is super underrated in the typology community.
    I don't understand why Ni gets so much more attention, all the observers are so bizzare and interesting!

    As an ENFP and I can relate to a lot of the “association-memories”. They can be beautiful and overwhelming... but exactly as said in this video, also negative - which causes me to either avoid or break down in the face of these intense reminders.
    However the thing I struggle the most with, and that in fact fills me with a lot of fear, is that between my Ne and Si, I find my connection to my immediate present reality to be very tenuous. I feel like I’m never actually seeing what’s in front of me... instead I’m filtering my observations into ideas and patterns (Ne) and the only other option is to filter through my past memories (Si). I never feel like I’m truly in the moment. I seriously wish there was a way to access Se as an ENFP because I feel like my life would be so much better off with it.
    So many of my flaws and mistakes I feel are contributed to this lack of connection with reality... which seems like something that should come naturally to all humans. It seems so unfair that I just can’t interact with reality in its purest form. #ENFPstruggles

    • @JoyceMeng22
      @JoyceMeng22  3 роки тому +5

      Your biggest gift is your biggest struggle! It's true that high Ne users tend to have a disconnection from reality because they are constantly thinking of what could be, or reflecting on specific stored memories. It must be tough!!
      You did a great job writing about your functions, thank you for sharing @Reeb Ster! :)

    • @pada5992

      ENFP, totally relate. I feel best on day 3-7 of a choir practice week, or a couple of hours or days into ballroom dancing classes. I get into a smooth, soft, nonviolent flow in the middle of S-contributing to what we are doing.
      The masterpieces we work on are tried and tested. I am guided beautifully, the leaders are not winging it, they know what theyre doing, they were trained , and we take time to dive deep into every single part of the piece until it all comes together in the way that some master musician hundreds of years ago intended. I appreciate that so much.
      Any quick and super intense Sensing things will be happening according to "schedule" so I can lean into anticipating them. That's the best part. And then when they happen, I will be the quickest and the most on point in the group.
      People rely on me in dancing and singing, when the moment when it all comes together comes. Any mistakes that happen, we have trained a couple of months or years to counter them before they even occur. I have done my warmup, training, I know my quick fixes and my longterm lessons-learned. So when things happen, people look to me to help out. When I am there, they know certain problems are not even going to occur in the first place.
      When people experience me in these situations, they tend to think I am a pro at sensory things.
      Then they tend to find me spontanous and fun, they will throw basketballs or cushions or impro theater prompts at me, while laughing and staring at me or holding a camera in my face. So suddenly there's lots of spontaneous attention on my person, and harsh sensory challenges - I fail 100% and they are surprised. They thought I should excel in social and sensory situations.
      What I do excel at, is being in the middle of the group, no attention on my person, 50 people's attention on the skills we are trying to learn, someone guiding us through it professionally, everybody contributing their piece to the puzzle. Then I can be one of the most reliable and helpful people in the group. Problem is, for me to play that role in those moment late in the process, I need all of the setup and dozens of people to be doing their part of the equation consistently, to even get us to that moment.

    Im an ISFJ and i relate soo much to the object/sensory memory. Every time i go on a trip all the stuff around me kind gets engrained into a movie in my head. I usually bring a new playlist/music to each trip, and those songs will never be the same again. I will always see the movie like overview of the trip i had when i listen to that song. By the way thank you so much for making this Joyce! was so cool learning more about Si :) also been binging your videos and they are all so informational and fun to watch.

    I'm INTP with Si child. I was married to a narcissistic ISFJ for 18 years who's Si saw my Ne thinking out of the box as immature and not properly conformist. I need to break my negative stereotype of ISFJs which is part of why I'm watching this video.

    This was so informative! I love Jami and you were a great host, Joyce! Great questions and additional commentary. I loved Jami’s examples, like the story about the Jeep and ESTJ with rakes. This really expanded my view of Si, which I’ve always only understood in a theoretical way that can sometimes escape me as I conflate Ni aspects with it haha. So yes, keep this up!

      This was encouraging to read. 🙂 Yes! I loved Jami's illustration of Si. I loved hearing about how impactful concrete impressions can be for them & how objects are like a vortex to a past equivalency for the Si user. Also, thank you for the kind feedback, Denzel! More episodes to come

    I had an ex-coworker who keeps objects of things that he has good memories of. Desk full of photos, POP figures, magnets, postcards and etc. His SO ended up being unfaithful and so he took down all the photos associated with that person as if he had to purge the bad memories in order to recover. After some time, he found someone new and new photos popped up in place of the removed ones. I always thought people like this were too sentimental over things (the sensory) but the example of a movie flashback makes complete sense. I too would do the same thing if I surrounded myself in good nostalgia and then some or all of it became compromised. Maybe this is why when life changing experiences happen to Si doms and they cannot escape their mind, some try and change their physical environment or even their location altogether to start anew?

    • @Claego
      @Claego 3 місяці тому

      Absolutely correct. I have boxes full of tiny keepsakes from different eras of my life. Old watches that were a gift but don't work anymore, old promise rings, tickets from my first visit to 6 flags, etc...I also save boxes of things that I might need someday but probably won't ever need. I should go through and purge some stuff and move on lol

Never been typed... but I get it on a whole new level now. Thank you for this. I don't know where it's stacked but I know without doubt I have it now. The vortex is a very accurate way of explaining a recurring phenomena I've had in my own life.

    My ex was probably an ISFJ and she and her family had this elaborated celebration schem for chrismas. They would bake cookies, go shoping, visit relatives, make donations, on certain days through the whole month. It was kind of ritualistic, but by the end of december the house was so packed with chrismas spirit, that my beard almost turned white.
