- The Full English Breakfast is one of the most popular meals in the UK along with a fish and chips and Chicken Tikka Masala curry, but what is the difference between a Wetherspoons version and a Hungry Horse version? Well in this video I head inside 2 of the biggest UK restaurant chains to try out their full english breakfast to see who is best!

Weatherspoons
I've got a 'spoons 500m up the road and a hungry horse 500m the other way. I'm always put off the hungry horse by the number of kids in there but the mega breakfast (4 pork sausages, 3 rashers of back bacon, 3 free-range fried eggs, mushrooms, baked beans, 3 hash browns and 2 slices of toast & butter, £8.79) looks very tempting
I might have to go back and try it 🤔
No to hash browns give me black pudding everytime and not halve a tomato but a decent serving of tinned tomatoes please with fried bread.
500 miles is long way to go for breakfast I think I would stay at home and cook my own.

My local cafe is what most people would call a ‘ greasy spoon ‘ cafe.
You get to choose what you want. Sausage, egg, fried bread, black pudding , mushrooms, grilled tomato, bacon as beans. Tea and a round of toast is free.
It is always full off cabbies, starting or ending their shifts. They even ask you if you want your bacon crispy or not. The full breakfast is £6, but the portions are large.
I’ve tried Weatherspoons and I wasn’t impressed.
So I recommend your local cafe.

most cafes do a decent full breakfast. It comes down to what you can include/exclude
6:59 it is different from each district I believe. The Wetherspoon near me at Woolwich has the same breakfast with hot drink is £6.49

Hungry horse have curry days on Wednesday and u get a choice of curry chicken korma beef madrass etc and u get rice chips nan bread 2 popadom and 3 onion bajis for very cheap and it’s very nice

The whetherspoons near me in Shipley costs £2.99 for the full english traditional breakfast. 2.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't go wrong with that.

Another great video! Very surprised that Hungry Horse is a new name to you, but to be fair, it's not as common as 'Spoons of course ;) Hungry Horses usually tend to be quite spacious, if slightly less characterful than Weatherspoons.

Love wetherspoons brekkies, my local is doing a regular one for £3.14 at the moment, always a good standard brekkie, great value for money.

As a self confessed Spoonz fan I called in for a traditional Breakfast at The golden Beam last week 29th Oct, I had a 'small breakfast' & mushroom side order for £2.99!....sadly mine didn't look as good as yours and was a bit lukewarm too!...but taste wise was good.
Just got to the hungry horse sausage, and I agreed that once been cooked in an oven 👍👍
Hungry Horse for me partly because it comes with mushrooms and I love them. 👍🏻 The mug of tea looked huge so well worth the money.
It was a huge cup of tea, twice the size of Wetherspoons
Hungry horse is like the main pub i go to, I live only a few minute drive away from one. We should do mixed grill at Hungry horse VS something else next

Those were the factors that persuaded it for me too
I haven't been in my local Hungry Horse for months. They used to do a huge range of breakfasts including their "Epic" which came with 3 eggs, 4 sausages, 4 hashbrowns, 2 rashers of bacon, baked beans, mushrooms, tomato, black pudding, and 3 slices of toast. It was £8.49. I didn't have anything to eat for the rest of the day, but I drank two litres of cider on account of all the salt. It's lately gone off the menu, so maybe they've had one or two customers doing a Mr Creosote...
Evening buddy👍I thought they were both really good value, we don't have a hungry horse here which is a shame as the bacon looked better than spoons and although the toast is swapped out for mushrooms I'd prefer that. You had a couple of amusing 'ultimate combo' fails there with droppage🤣Great stuff and just shy of 10k well done✌️

I eat breakfast at the Wetherspoons in Pudsey from time to time. It's very nice, but I have to add on a few things. The unlimited latte's is a very nice bonus. I'll have to check out the Hungry Horse, it looks nice as well.

Spoons maybe cheaper from menu price as there was a special deal Sept to mid Oct in most locations.

Pretty sure the Whetherspoons sausages are deep fried, the other place looks ovened. The Whetherspoons changed their sausages some years back, new ones are ok but I think they were better before.
Wetherspoons had the better sausage on this one
Fantastic prices for both meals ,wow ,think it would cost more to cook at home 10/10 both places just hungry horse need to cook sausage a bit longer 😋
At those prices I would be happy with either. I would happily swap one of the hash browns for another egg. No toast, how do you soak up the yolk?

i am a fan of Spoons, each one had something better than the other, but the winner was Spoons with an 8
The Lawnswood is my local & a clear winner for me. I'm assuming the Wetherspoon's price was wrong.
Its a nice location and building
I will stay loyal to Otters Garden centre, Taunton. The breakfast /food is delicious and the staff can't do enough to help.
The Spoons sausage looks *deep fried* maybe wrong but looks like it.
Chippies deep fry sausages also.
It does look like the same ones you get at chip shops
So info time. Wetherspoons at SOME of there places are doing a the breakfast for £3.14 plus £1.02 for the drink. = £4.16. which is really an unbeatable price.
the standard at the place I know the breakfast is £4.99. but prices do vary depending on location.
when looking for the hungry horse prices they do not show breakfast prices online and the app you need is greene king.
I do not feel that 4 mushrooms is equal to having my egg on some toast. heheheh

The breakfasts looked similar good quality.... Wetherspoons wins with the unlimited drinks. For £1.35 I find the Lavazza coffee in Wetherspoons very good value, it's about as good as the coffee in McDonald's but cheaper and unlimited!

Wetherspoons standard breakfast is enough for most people but I agree I’ve had quite a few of these meals and they have all been not hot enough…. Hot plates? Health and Safety at play?
Not sure 🤷♂️ but there are other places that serve food on a hot plate

Fried bread is traditional with a fry-up rather than toast and judging by the griddle marks that looked more fried bread than it did toast, point being if you order just a slice of toast with butter it would look a bit odd with griddle marks.
Surprisingly limited to the nuts and bolts of a fry-up, I'd have been tempted to build on that with the grilled tomato, mushrooms and black pudding options, fried banana would be nice or maybe even the ultimate addition of fried Christmas Pudding this time of year, you'll be hungry an hour later without them but I guess for a fiver with free tea not bad compared to a Mc Bland Bun.
Menu in Hungry Horse looks a bit 1970's Motorway Cafe to me in stark contrast to what their name suggests, more Peckish Mouse, also they've missed pricing their fruit Juices and Water?
5 GBP is sooooo cheap... we pay 7.50 just for a bacon and egg roll here in Australia ! Both look Good & amazing value

Apparently Hungry Horse are owned by the brewery Green King, so not a free house like Wetherspoons so the alcohol may be dearer?

I noticed that these establishments are not offering tomatoes, gammon(ham), bubble and squeak, fried bread, black pudding or white pudding.
They do offer some of these items but they are on their bigger breakfasts
Hash Browns are the American replacement for bubble & squeak.

I agree. I don't understand how hash browns have apparently become part of a traditional English breakfast to so many English people.
Swings and roundabouts. I would have been disappointed not to have the toast or at least some bread and butter, but important to have quality bacon.

London breakfasts are where you will be ripped off, at least £16 quid before service charge. You have been so lucky.
Toast should be standard to a breakfast it goes hand in hand, it is like having soup with no bread

Well if the egg has run out then it is as runny as could be, sorry to be pedantic but runny is runny. Anywho the first plate looked better than the second imo. It's the taste that counts
It's a lottery if you get an iced cold plate and barely warm food. Or how it should be served, piping hot and WARM plate. @Spoons
A proper cooked breakfast needs two sausages. Weatherspoon's prices however are great. I just don't like those blue decorated plates they use. Plain plates for me always !

OK,the world 'is wife & their dog know about Spoons 😮 As a chain,it comes down to the catering staff in each branch. Seems that this time, you struck lucky 😊 That was superb, a very nice simple clean plate of food..Maybe a small moan😢,and this is me being greedy. 2toast& 2butter❤ But,bottomless hot drinks,nice.Now,on to Hungry Horse. A small" stable " pub chain (😂) almost a joke there (😢) On looks, pretty much the same as Spoons. Nicely served up😊 The sausage skin looked very tough. Mushrooms, fried and kept warm under lights or hot cupboard ,hence dry crinkled look. Hash browns, man they were bright 🔆 needed more colour. Beans, very small but tasty portion. Back bacon was the best 😊just as it should be. Minor moan😢Breakfast needs toast😮 On the visual evidence & cost,for me.............Spoons, by a slice of toast& bottomless tea❤❤😊Allan&Family

Full English should have toms , black pudding and mushrooms that were all omitted from the Spoons menu and the reason it was so cheap.
Hungry Horse at least threw in some shrooms but still no tomato , toast or black pudding so neither have the right to call them a Full English as they're clearly not.
To be honest HH always full of noisy children and parents who don't give a damn and as you know by now Spoons I won't even walk through the door 🤣
Any chance you could drop these cheap places and do an upmarket episode where they actually sell a true Full English ?

I'd be disappointed with no toast at Hungry Horace. I'd be asking if they would trade me two pieces of toast with real butter for the hash browns, which in my opinion do not form part of a traditional English Breakfast! Hash Browns are American and therefore should be banned 😜

Hungry horse- Bonnie points for Yorkshire tea. No toast bad. To many beans. I would normally go for hungry horse but on this occasion has to Wetherspoons

You can add black pudding or mushrooms as an extra, and the Large Breakfast comes with mushrooms.

If you are the sort of person who likes their breakfast cold and tasteless, then Wetherspoons is difficult to beat.

places serving food should stop calling breakfasts "Full English" and "Traditional" if the are served with hash browns. The are in no way traditional or part of a full English. They are American additions included only to please American tourists.
