Top 10 easy bass solos
Mononeon! The Baddest Bass Player
Top ten bass guitar exercises to improve players' skills.
Showing the exercises that have helped Ellen the most in advancing to a higher level of playing. I know we've already seen many of these; I know you've already shared how Ellen started learning to slap, for example. But you could condense into one video like this a dozen specific exercises that, when Ellen mastered them, opened up another big chunk of the bass world for her.
I'd like it if you started in, say, the 40s or 50s and went one year at a time up to the present and Ellen picked one bassline from each year that stood out to her within the songs from that year. So each video would be one decade. Obviously this would be a longer term project because Ellen would have to listen to a lot of it with the help of Hovak. I suppose Hovak would do some pre-selection of the most interesting things that happened in bass playing for each year, and Ellen would pick what she liked. It doesn't just have to be technically challenging pieces, there is often beauty in simplicity. In this way, Ellen gives us a glimpse not only into how amazing her playing is, but also her musical taste as a listener.
Muse - Hysteria please
I can't describe how happy it makes me to see kids this young picking up musical instruments. There's hope for the world yet.
Yes. There's variation in all traits in all species. Some will survive.
Absolutely. All this guff about climate change, proliferation of WMD's, Geoeconomic crisis, digital inequality, biodiversity loss, cybersecurity failure, infectious disease uptake? I'm puting my money on her!!
@@ecocentrichomestead6783Surely she will...
She's everywhere, hopefully not to much grunge. Definitely has enough of that in the 2000's
She's really a great bass player. Her dad plays some serious guitar too.
So basically, you pick the hardest bass lines, break out the fretless, and show off. AS YOU SHOULD Ellen!! YOU ARE SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME!! Add the pigtails, smiles, and that contagious giggle and it's a wrap! Love it! 👍👍👍🥰🥰
Chomo
Perfectly phrased! Thanks so much for this video. Love to hear you cover Graceland by Paul Simon .
these aren't that hard
...yeah right, that Jaco Pastorious track would be a piece of cake for you, right? It's one thing to criticize someone (a young girl, no less), but phrasing it like you're a virtuoso, yet no evidence to show it?? You're certainly asking for it and I'm sure you'll get it (can't wait...HA!!🤣)@@aquarius5264
Phenomena ❤
As a 61 year old drummer I’ve played with some great bassist’s. I’m blown away by your love of playing and obviously your talent the world is lucky to have you!
I have been playing guitar for fifty years. I am humbled. What a gift to the world of music you are. Scary talent. Giggles!
I'm 48 and 5 years into learning bass and if I EVER get to a point where this kid is, it would be a miracle. This kid won the talent lottery. For the rest of us schlubs, it's hard work and hoping the rest of the band plays real loud.
The joy on her face as she rips through pro bass lines is everything... :)
That accurate, in tune playing of the fretless base with such small hands is amazing.
Oh the fretless bass, what a sound. I think of the bass line to Whereever I lay my hat by Paul Young, Mick Karn's bass lines from Japan and The Cure's Love cats
Dear Ellen, I am 68 years old and I know all of these songs from back in the day. You play them fantastically. Keep it up and have so much fun.
I just found Ellen's channel a couple of days ago and I am astonished! When I saw the videos with Ellen and her dad, it became so clear where her talent and passion stems from. This kid is the real deal and is blessed with talent and sound guidance from home! Follow the dream!
I'm 71 and pray that I live long enough to see you grow up and Excell ! 😊😊❤
Very impressed, as usual! Little note to dad though: Tony Levin was not a founding member of King Crimson. He joined in 1981. The original bassist (and founding member) was Greg Lake.
Very glad you played the Barney Miller theme song. One of my favorite TV shows.
I was going to mention that as well, as a major fan of King Crimson AND ELP (Rest in Peace, Greg and Keith). Ellen, Wow!, one of my greatest interests when watching concerts is the Bass player, no matter whether it is country, Rock ProgRock, etc. and the lady Bassists are ALWAYS remarkable, combining talent and beauty. You are blessed!
You beat me to the «slapping» of dad here 😅 #bassdadhumor
And let's not forget about the other singing Crimson bassist, John Wetton🙀
Loved the Barney Miller track as well.. good choice!
Another ELP connection through Asia and Carl Palmer. John was another one gone too early.
This little girl has more control over these bass guitars than I have over my life at 40…. 😂😂😂😭😭😭
Purely emotional. Congrats DAD. Beautifully talented young lady. Job well done. I hope she knows the real value of a great father beyond the music.
She's excellerating at an astonishing rate. Great job Ellen and Dad!
She's a little genius, with a wonderful brain.
Very bubbly
My thoughts _exactly_
**Accelerating**
@@matthewfoy4202 I kind of like the misspelling. Combines speed with excellence. 😊
It is beyond my understanding how someone so young can be so talented. Absolutely amazing. A true prodigy.
she ought to get together with Yoyoka, another child prodigy on the drums. What a rhythm section they'd make.
WOW!
Reincarnated
She is definitely a prodigy! 99.9% of all kids her age can't even come close to her level of talent. My favorite part about her is how absolutely cute and adorable she is!
The answer is pretty simple. Practice. Practice. And more practice. … but practicing properly as well.
Young lady, you play bass better than I do after 20 years. Fantastic technical understanding.
This young lady is amazing! I too started playing at around your age. But make no mistake, you are better than I ever was at the same age. I am now 62 years old and after tours and albums, I find myself doing it for fun. You, on the other hand, have a special talent for the bass that you cannot throw away! Run with it and you will one day become a household name.
First time watcher, long time basser. Uhh... this young one is the light of the world. I could write paragraphs, but all I will say is that she will be the inspiration for generations. I hope you never lose your enthusiasm/spirit, no matter what you choose to do. And good job dad.
couldnt have said it better
@@onedeadgod Ditto,, this little musician is going to rewrite basslines one of these days! LOved her rendition of the Commodores tune.
Ellen, your excitement and joy of playing the bass just shines through! Thanks for making my day.
She's nothing special

@@MichellesGuitarSolos-ih3cl . And you are?
@stevo68 No idea what you're asking?
@@MichellesGuitarSolos-ih3cl When you make a statement as idiotic as that (unless you're being ironic), you have to expect questioning responses. Show us one example of another similar young bass player with talent and charismatic personality close to hers, or keep quiet to avoid making an even bigger fool of yourself.
Your joy is infectious, and jeez, you play like a seasoned pro on that fretless bass. Very impressive!
Nothing’s better than the smile of someone loving to play music!!!
In addition to being extremely skilled, she is such a light bringer. Every musician (person) in the world would just love to be around her happy personality and ringing laugh
What I love about her videos, aside from her talents and sweet disposition, is that she actually enjoys playing a wide range of musical genres and tastes!
This kid has got as much talent as she has cuteness. All wrapped up in coolness. She would have made Albert Collins proud. I really hope she keeps at it. Loved every second of it.
IM MEXICAN MUSICIAN FOR MANY YEARS AND I CAN TELL THIS BEAUTIFUL ANGEL IS A FUTURE STAR!!!!!!❤❤❤
Most of the younger musical phenoms you see on UA-cam have technical skills on their instruments that seem far beyond their years, and Ellen is no exception. But more impressively in my opinion, Ellen's "feel" for the music and the vibe of the songs is just terrific! The playing of some young musical wizards can seem a little cold or sterile, because they're playing it much more than they're *_feeling_* it. Not so with Ellen! She is definitely doing both!! 👍🏼
And the way she just bursts out laughing when she makes an error. It shows she is still a kid having a great time not letting mistakes weigh her down.
Ellen is the real deal, not just someone emulating the songs like a lot of kids do. You can tell she's genuinely loves playing bass, and dedicated.
I was fully expecting her to play a bass line from a modern pop tune from last week, but nope!!....she pulls out the JP!!!
Paying for views and comments it’s wrong
This girl is a gem! So much talent! I love her playing
I’m 75 this month and just wanted to let you know that you touched my soul with that music. Thanks!
The simplest difference between guitar and bass guitar is the pitch range of the instruments. Bass guitar plays notes an octave lower than a regular guitar. Think of the song 'Another One Bites the Dust' by Queen. The first few notes you hear are the sound of the bass guitar. 7:24 [StudyBass]
Very impressive. I've been a bassist for 34 years and I haven't even tried to play a victor Wooten song. It's refreshing to see a member of the younger generation playing an instrument especially the bass
😮 You played that 5 string fretless like a bass veteran. Wow Ellen, just wow. Top 10 new songs you wanna tackle? Rock on Ellen! 🤘
I dare any musician to even try on a fretless. I play acoustic guitar ( over 30 years) and fretless just make me look like I don't know how to play. I can't hit notes dead on every time. Close. Ya I learn and get better but fretless really separate a natural born player. Ellen is Bass period.
Wow. Now a 5-string fretless bass. Your level of progress over such a relatively short period of time is astonishing. It's great that your dad is helping you with the historical aspects of the music and the players as well. You will be an in-demand player in no time. Your future is so bright... that as the song goes we'll have to "wear shades".
You are so amazing, little girl! Fretless, too!!! Wow! please always remember what Dean Friedman said, "It's impossible to ever love somebody in vain." (Rocking Chair)
Always keep your giggle and smile as you grow up, no matter how people may try you (and they will). 😅
Thanks, Dad, for sharing Ellen's talent with the world and teaching her! You guys are sooo cool!!
Very accomplished young star!!!! I have been a stagehand for 45 years and worked thousands of shows and your enthusiasm is contagious!! ✌️❤️💜💜❤️
Not only is she a little cutie, but she plays the bass like a professional. I love her upbeat, personality and all the smiles. She has great job. Keep up the good work.
She is charismatic and intelligent. Musical talent was born with her. Wonderful girl. Impressive. 2:17
Been watching Ellen since she was 8... today, I have to admit that she is a better bass player than me... and I learned over 50 years ago... never have I even attempted to cover Jaco.... The sky is the limit for this young lady.... thumbs up always!
She is great
Can't disagree with that bro and I started over 40 years ago 😊
Same here. Played for 35 years, in large clubs and small auditoriums, was sought after by any one in southern Indiana putting a band together and neede a bass player, but this girl was amazing when she was 8. I picked up a fretless bass in a music store once, and after producing some god awful sounds, I put it back.
I like that she's always giggling, I'm sure that she's a joy to work with. She plays wonderfully. I always enjoy listening.
I am so speechless I can’t stop blabbering! Music will be your life, you’ve been chosen!
Hi sweet lady - I have to tell you that I am so inspired by your playing that I have decided to dedicate 2024 to learning bass. I am 77 years old (been playing drums for many years and play in 3 local big bands currently) - your performances bring new life to the bass - stay safe and thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent. 💜 (Pete)
This fretless 5string is so nice.
Your playing is fascinating. 🎉
That fretless bass is very unusual. The fingerboard goes all the way to the bridge and beyond. It has no magnetic pickups and three controls, so it probably has a piezo pickup and maybe a microphone inside the hollow body.
Ellen, i want to thank your Dad for teaching you music in different ways. You are blessed, and you have an awesome Dad and mom and many friends to help you through life's journey.
Stumbled across this vid and all I can say is that I was mesmerized by her infectious smile and amazing talent. As a bassist myself, you have blown me away. Respect!
Excuse me? A 5-string fretless bass?! What on Earth am I witnessing?! 🔥
Instant subscribe. This, and others like it, is the best thing about UA-cam. Absolutely astonished by how good you are!
Hola amigo, busca a Carlos Benavent, bajista de Paco de Lucía el tocaba bajo de 5 Cuerdas sin trastes. Saludos!
This young lady has a future in music. So proud to just be able to listen to her.
I just love how happy she seems as she is playing!
I had no idea, but I needed this video in my life! Pure talent and that smile of joy! Just amazing.
This little girl is amazing! She’s so cute! And I love seeing kids be kids. The precious innocence of a child. ❤️ Just beautiful.
I am in absolute awe of Ellen’s talent! You know, I watch reaction channels where people twice or three times her age react to well known songs and have no idea who some legendary artists are. This kid is taking on Tony Levin (on a fret less bass 🤯) and Geddy Lee! Never stop playing, this is amazing!!!
Thank you, Ellen. It is a joy to see such talent in a young person playing music. Life is just better with music!
Ur bass playing brings light to our world. TY. What a great father u hv. I love ur giggle also. Keep playin that bass u inspiration u.
Im 60 years old, and i remember every thing you played but it was new back then. All i can say is OMG! Absolutely beautiful how you masterd the Bass . I love it and im now a fan keep it up and God bless you and your family. From the heart of San Antonio Texas. Totally blew me away.
Me too dated me.
Thanks for sharing your talent& enthusiasm!👍
Precious girl! I always get the biggest smile watching your videos! The LOVE of what you are doing is so infectious... I can sleep well at night knowing the future of music is in the hands of young stars like yourself! And a HUGE shoutout to Mom and Dad for lighting the flame that burns inside of you! Imagine what will happen when you get GOOD! (JUST KIDDING!!!) God's blessings always! Peace and Love!
WOW!
This young lady is not only adorable but has funky fresh flavor, grew up in the 80's, great dad teaching history name's and date's. All the best to you both. That giggle makes me giggle 😅
You, young lady, are a trip!! Very impressive. My guess is that you already know that that bass playing can take you places. Don't stop practicing!
Ellen is a golden treasure - in all respects and from my deep heart.
Ellen, you just keep getting better and better! For you to do some of these lines with such small hands is IMPRESSIVE! As you grow (and your hands grow) the fingering skills you're mastering now will make you able to do even more amazing things! I can't wait to watch you play 5, 10 even 15 years from now... you're gonna' be one of the greats!
Thank you so much!
Have you ever played a stand-up bass?
@@EllenPlaysBass❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Ellen, I am totally blown away to see you are now mastering the fretless bass! I can't wait for you to grow some more and be able to play on a double bass! Haha! Please keep your videos coming. They always make me feel so happy! ♥♥👏👏👻👻
Браво, Эллен-Джан !!! Ты - ТАЛАНТИЩЕ !!!
Дай Бог, тебе огромных творческих успехов !!!
I love her! Keep the smiles Ellen. You're going places🎸💕
Ms. Ellen you & your Dad have a great relationship with each other & making music this makes the world a better place thanks for sharing your amazing young talent 😉👍🎸
Not just talent a lot of practice has gone into your playing.
Nice that she's learning a bit of the history and players. I hope she always keeps her youthful exuberance.
Brilliant. You picked up how to play and pick the positions on a fret less so quickly. I love the sound on the fretless.
Amazing. Hovak, I can't imagine how proud you must be. Both you and your daughter are incredible.
Seeing you find your notes so easily on a “fretless” is just fantastic!
Love from France and ... peace on Armenia !
This girl is amazing! Very talented! I see that she is having a great deal of fun playing as well as people way older. Let her have fun and become one of the best. She is on her way.
Damn! That was such a good demo of sledge hammer I remember listening to to thar as a kid. You are truly an amazing player
Girl, you make my day everyday. Love it, love you for the moments your giving me with a big smile...me as a nobody...im proud of you
Very impressive playing. The fretless, the tone and the Wooten licks especially blew me away. Great job!
i love the discipline of spending time with the fretless! Excellent, as always, Ellen!
That must have taken a lot of hard work and practice.
my granddaughter and I are totally impressed! great job!!!
This is so amazing. What a joy to see and hear Elen play the bass. God bless you!!
I woke up this morning not feeling so good about life , when i came across your videos, these songs brought back so many memories, you see I am 64 and you made me smile for the first time this morning, you are a extremely talented person , the ability you have is astonishing, your have a passion and a happiness when you play, thank you for making me smile today, keep up the wonderful talent you have, God bless 😊
Wow!! Playing a 5-string fretless bass is impressive! Great job Ellen. Always enjoy listening and watching you play. Amazing as always.!
Thank you ❤️
It's got such a thick tone too.
Silly love songs please
Not just a 5 string, but an adult sized 5 string. Her hands haven't even fully developed yet. This sweet little girl is going to be going places.

You keep improving by leaps and bounds. So enjoyable to follow your progress. Such a talented musician!
Wow, I'm completely blown away by this prodigy.
WOW!!!! She thumps that bass like an old pro!!! Yes the Pink Panther theme is a Bassline, my dad was a bassist and played it all of the time for us as kids. Thank you for awakening that memory!!! You are a very talented young lady
I dunno whether I am always taken by your cuteness factor or your contagious smile & laughter, or blown away by your awesome bass playing, but way to go! Good job on the popular bass lines! Papa must be so proud!!!
I have to watch again. Love, love, this. So great to see younguns’ enjoying music. She is great on the bass.
Ellen is simply fantastic bass player. Sucess a lot for her!
Ellen you are one Awesome Bass Player and so fabulous to hear!!!🎸⭐❤️
Not only are you becoming an excellent bass player but you have a personality .. the combination will open so many doors for you,,, you are well on your way to fame,,,, keep it up young lady,,,, ❤
Listening to you, I had a smile on my face the whole time. Thank you.
Hello my producer name is AleoshA, I produce electronica for Detroit Deep Session, I wanted to say how much I enjoyed hearing your bass lines they brought back many memories. You also have an incredible father sharing music together. and your energy and Laughter is heartwarming, never loose that. And for the father, well done sir, well done.
You made this old guy's day by playing Pink Panther and Barney Miller themes! Your playing has really become first rate little girl. And, the best part is that we can feel the love you have for playing. Keep it fun, keep on rockin' and.... Peace!!
It's always such a pleasure to watch your videos! I was young once, and into anything brass and loud! I played with bands, orchestras and everyone I could, because for me the pleasure lay in working with others. Keep practicing, never give up, keep reaching for the stars - and you will achieve everything you want. Good work dad!
Don't ever lose that smile, laugh, and love you have for what you do. You are awesome.
Raise her properly. She will light the world on fire with her beautiful gifts. Amazing!
I put my bass down at around 19 after a traumatic injury that started my long battle with depression for more than 30 years. I was doing great, then all of a sudden... I'm still going through "stuff" 35 years later because I never got treatment for the mental trauma, but I'm hoping to finally put it behind me, and get some notes in front of me, but it will be an upright bass this time, which I've been researching. To the dad, your daughter is inspiring many people, and she is also preserving and saving classic Rock n Roll, and she has lots of appreciation for that!😊
@OTRTrader, I wish you well in your journey to rediscover the bass & I hope that you are able to get the treatment for your mental trauma that was not forthcoming after your traumatic accident. Good luck for the future. All the very best. ❤🎸
I hope you keep your passion for the Bass!! You're a super talented young girl! Keep doing what you do!!
Thank you so much for sharing your talent and joy of music!
I always thought Pink Panther was a Synthesizer or organ so I learned something today. What a very talented person you are.
Ellen, you are phenomenally talented, and a real joy to listen to! And please, please, please do not lose your great spirit and humility. I wish you the utmost success!
Minor correction: Tony Levin wasn’t a founding member of King Crimson. He was part of Robert Fripp’s new version of King Crimson launched in 1981, though. (With Fripp and Adrian Belew on guitar, and previous lineup of KC holdover Bill Bruford on drums, this four-piece was one of the best bands of all time.)
Your playing is fantastic, by the way! And your joy and enthusiasm are absolutely infectious. Also blown away by your knowledge. Keep up the great work!
Back in 1996 I played in the symphony for a DECA convention in St Louis.. We played lots of good music, but the theme song for DECA that year was Turn the Beat Around - Gloria Estefan. That's a good bass line, too.. We did Pink Panther as well. I also played bass for a Bye Bye Birdie stage production in 1997, which was pretty tough, but lots of fun. Played several operas and other symphonies and some "live" music videos during the covid lockdowns. Probably my favorite was either The Lohengrin Opera or Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet... You're a very talented, young lady. Keep up the good work.
This little girl is the cutest and her bright fun nature is going to take her to great heights. Her teacher Must be so proud of her awesome talent. Great chops, great feel and great everything. 🤗🤗👍👍😃😃 Thank you so much for sharing .🙂🙂
Such a beautiful, bubbly young bassist! I've been playing bass for 46 years (yes, I'm that old!) and I truly appreciate your attitude, humor, and of course bass skills! I clicked on this expecting some gimmicky bass lines, but you have skill. In a few more years you'll be untouchable! Stay the course and best of luck with your future!
Her musical skill and ability are impressive. Her personality makes the video incredible. What a great job that was awesome. Best video I've seen.
I love watching this girl! What a joy!
That smile and laughter is so contagious! My cheeks get tired watching Ellen have fun!
Wow, fretless bass, bass ukulele and you are mastering everything from finger picking to slapping. You're a real queen of the groove. Thank you so much for the music and all the smiles that light up the day and fill the heart with love.
One word...OUTSTANDING. You make playing the base look so easy.
