  • Are Volvo redblock engines that legendary that they can sit for an entire year not running and fire right up? I aimed to find that out.

David Bello is the guy on Utube with lots of experience with the older Volvo’s - a real DIY hands on young man. Hey, whatever you do with your 240 DL - we’ll all have fun watching!!

    Volvos have notoriously weak motor mounts by design. Theyre supposed to wear down and be replaced every 2 years according to volvo. the idea was if you got in an accident the motor mounts would break and the motor would roll underneath the car instead of impacting into the cabin.

    The engine mounts are dryed out. The mounts on 240s were designed to break away and allow the engine to move below the car. This keeps the engine entering the dashboard. The engine mounts have a short life span about 2-3 years. If installing new ones get the pass side diesel mount because the weight of the engine is more toward the passenger side.

  • @mds2465

    • @lesserlogic9977
      @lesserlogic9977 5 років тому +2

      Is it the mounts themselves, or the rubber peices. My 06 has always had a decent amount of vibration. It lessens, and feels like it smooths out with throttle.

    • @mds2465
      @mds2465 5 років тому +2

      On the older ones yeah it usually is the rubber bushings inside the mounts that go bad. Some people prefer to get the poly motor mounts as those hold up better but they are a lot more stuff than the rubber ones

    I have a 1991 245SE that sits for months frequently. It has electrical gremlins that kill the battery if I don’t unhook it when parked over four or five days. This was the only year they made the SE model. All my windows work but I removed the AC and jerry-rigged a heater/defroster that doesn’t scream at you while running, I put leather 6way heated seats in him and did a few tuning tricks. I drive down to the VA for treatment which is 550 mile round trip here in Montana. I get 28MPG doing 85MPH most of the way. I’ve had Captain Tosspot since 1997 and I love him still!
