Do a manual swap. Swap the electrical system from the LH2. 2 to LH2. 4 and turbo convert it. If you upgrade the rods and do a bit of work to the top and swap to another cam and you will be able to reliably get 300-400 bhp. Or just throw a 850 or v70 T5 in it.

I had one from 1995 to 1999 exactly the same spec and colour, and my current vehicle is a 2014 XC70 D5. I suggest that you find a good B230k,but take a good look at the heads as they can fracture. Put a manual gearbox in from a 240 GLT with either overdrive or 5 speed and maybe the leather interior as well. Upgrade the brakes to at least grooved discs with good pads. If you find a 240GLT, it should have some spoked alloys which I think will enhance but in keeping with the car. Looking forward to following this saga with you.

    • @donfoster5576
      @donfoster5576 4 роки тому +1

Not really. The B230F comes from the B23F, which comes from the B21, which comes from the B20F, which comes from the B18, which comes from the B16. The B14 had only three main bearings, however........ And yes, you're right that they are super strong. The early B230Fs were prone to annoying piston slap after 250,000 miles -- but it never hurt anything. In '91 or '2 they went to longer piston skirts, which kept the engine quiet to 500,000 miles.
You might be thinking of the ill-fated PRV engine (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo), a 2.8 liter V6, which was a pos. It ran good on those rare days it ran good. It would have made a good boat anchor except it was aluminum. That engine was in the 260, some 760s, and the DeLorean.

I have a 91 245 SE that I drive 550 mile round-trip to my VA appointments in Helena. The only major modification is heated 6-way leather seats out of a 2001 Volvo Sedan, a tight fit but more comfortable than the original seats which my mangled spine really appreciates. I average 85MPH on the journey which crosses the Continental Divide twice and I get 28MPG. I use synthetic oil and don’t use a drop between 25K mile changes. I admit the 0-60 performance is a bit slow but the 50-95 passing gear works brilliantly. In my humble opinion it truly is the Best Car I have ever owned-or driven for that matter and I am a retired mechanic who specialized in MBZ, Citroen and Maserati automobiles, driven countless other “high performance” cars. If an asteroid struck the planet and we were forced into a Mad Max world I have no doubt the Volvo 245 would be the last car running, probably a diesel model burning hemp oil. OH, 1991 was the ONLY year they made the SE model. Mine has 402,516 miles as of this writing.

Upgrade the suspension needs polybushings all over, the original suspension rubber parts are crap on the 240, especially now given its age.

  • @klaspeppar5619

I think you should ditch the 3 speed automatic for a 5 Speed manual from a 740.
I suggest that you keep the red block as those are extremely easy to tune (a tuned red block will not make 1000hp), maybe replace the cam shaft, maybe turbo it?
If you want to engine swap it I would suggest sticking to Volvo engines i think that one of the more “easy swaps” would probably be something out of a 940 with an already attached manual transmission, a B230FT or a B6304F or a B6244F (the last 2 are technically out of a 960 and not a 940). Or you could B5254T4 swap it (the same engine you have in your V70n R) or B6294T (bi-turbo) or B8444S (the Yamaha/Volvo V8).

You need a seven passenger back seat? And yes, those are heated seats... beware of Volvo plastic in the inside in that era, though... they are very brittle on everything... but great find! I had a dozen various 240s... great cars.
9/12/1994 An 82 245 wagon saved my life. And then drove home (limped really hard, with a 2" bend at the B pillar of the car).
Also, my suggestion - 4.4l Volvo V8 w/manual transmission. Just sayin'

I've never understood why the B2.1 to B2.3 overhead cam engines got the nickname Redblock.
A B20 (or B18, B16 yadda-yadda) pushrod of the prior generation has the same colour paint on the engine.
Remarkably clean and rust-free for its age, but then again PA is pretty strict at inspection time.
Personally, I'd suggest just getting it back to showroom fresh since it's not too far from it and leave it there. :)

Keep it Volvo, dont LS swap it or 2JZ... so done! These are some of the best looking boxes on wheels ever made, even in this poor of a shape just sitting in the greens there it looks good.
Keep it sort of period and try and get 400 - 500 hp out of it, a nice stance, some sweet wheels... make it a bit of a sleeper maybe? Do some track driving in a Volvo wagon, chase down some BMW's... I know, sleeper Volvo's has been done a heck of a lot, espeically over here... (Sweden) but there is no better sleeper cars than an old Volvo, a brand everyone has been dismissing and praising all at the same time for the past 30 years.
Right now, i cant get enough of the latest V90's... V60's on the roads, see a ton of them, they must be selling like crazy over here, I see like 10 - 15 of them every time I go outside easily, I only need to be out on the road for 10 minutes and I've seen 10 of them. Stunning looking cars...
So please, keep it Volvo... maybe a slightly newer engine? one out of the later 900 series, manual conversion? I dunno... They are too awesome as is to go too wild and crazy, kinda looses its charm if you do that.

I got my pristine 940 few years ago and it has been amazing. It was practically brand new with only 340 000km and almost everything was broken, but it had B230FK + M90 and with some (amis-) tuning it turns the world little bit faster. (~230whp)
Btw, whats with the HEATED SEATS surprise party on every channel when people go nuts about those. This car is from sweden and usually in scandinavia its dark and cold so every car has heated seats always, like it have to be a very old rare car not to have it.

I drove a 240 [not the same one] for about 20 years. Good reliable car. Sorry, I am not on Instagram so cannot do the survey. You can spend time and money and upgrade the existing engine. However, from a practical point of view for a daily driver, your best option is a 5.0 Ford V8 from a Mustang. As Volvo was owned by Ford for a decade, it is still keeping it Volvo. The V8 conversion is easy, no cutting of firewall like with a Chevy. The conversion kits are out there. Then you can spend time on the brakes and handling.
Does it have dual airbags? You may want to think about a daily driver if you are going to drive kids around in it.

Tune the crap out of the red block and make sure it handles and stops well. If you go with a swap remember that LS swaps are played out and boring because everyone and there brother does em. Maybe get a doner Mustang and use the drive train. They fit with no cutting and chopping.
