- Since our original Volvo 240 wagon was very rusty we bought TWO MORE and one of them is rust free on the body! Nick from RBP will be combining all 3 of these cars into 1 mega wagon for us that is nearly 100% perfect. Here's everything wrong with our newest purchases, how we got them for a combined $200, and how we're going to use them.

Ive got a worlds first 855 candy red volvo...
This is breaking my heart. To see 3 240s being turned in to just 1 means 2 of them are forever off the road. Numbers are dwindling of these amazing cars and it is very sad.
They made 2.8 million of them. They’re really not dwindling and none of these were road safe or worthy.

@@taunuslunatic404 and rust, and driveshaft play, and bad wheels, and bad engines, and bad wiring, and bad... it was a lot more than what was shown, but we couldn't make a 4 hour long video, no one would watch it. These cars were all garbage apart, but together they will make one glorious one.
@@ShiftingLanes I meant the play on the back axle was due to worn bushings.
Oh wow! My car clanks when I turn! I BET it's those bushings on the rear!
Love the V70R RestoMod idea. What better state than IPD Land to do it! I would love to see the third row seat added into the build...🤓...Huge fan of this idea! Looking forward to this project journey.

The good thing that you have is that if the car, you sre fixing had manual mirrors and / or manual,window mechanisms,you can switch and make 5hembelctric,even if you had steel rims with hubcaps, and the other cars that were parted out, have alloy rims, a nice set of mag wheels, would add value.

This is awesome glad I can across this channel that has a 240 build going on right now, I just acquired a 89 244 for free and runs the body is solid but the paint is wrecked, that’s what good ole Florida sun will do, but hey it was free it’ll be a fun project to tinker with.

ShiftingLanes nothing crazy rn just going through it and stoping the oil leak, doing all the gasket I can get to o-rings, rear main seal, then get a manual transmission seen a few people swap a T-5 mustang transmission maybe go that route and eventually boost it. I’m still exploring the Volvo rabbit hole

It's an unfortunate reality with old cars, and especially us in the rust belt or NE US that sometimes the best thing you can do to a car is turn it into an organ donor. This poor old used and abused wagon will go on to help others live another day delivering dog food, families, and boxy smiles! Also, absolutely LOVE Nick he's the perfect Pacific North West auto enthusiast. YOU Sir, ARE the stereotype and we mean that in the best way!

Those fenders on the maroon one ended it's production in 1980 in Sweden, but I know they continued to be sold and produced for the US market. In Sweden all models had glass headlights that looks tons better than those faded plastic ones. Maybe it took a while for Volvo to produce the plastic ones needed for the US regulations?

@@ShiftingLanes Sounds good! By that point I should have an overdrive box in my Amazon so I can road trip it down. I tuned the carburetors and it will do 60 all day long now, but anything above that gets the revs too high to be comfortable for me or the engine on a long trip (around 3,700 RPM). Should be able to do 75 consistently after I install an overdrive. If it does make it down at some point, you can review it for the channel if you want. If not, totally cool too.

Remember to remove the antenna base and the fuel tank (if it's not rusted).

should i be discouraged from buying a 240? i wanted to upgrade to a t5 transmission one day and work on it with my dad
Go for it.
They are not the easiest to work on. (I think Honda wins that) But are still way better than 90% of cars out there. The trick is to start with a nice one, not a $200 beater. The costs will add up to more than your savings by fixing stuff.
