Gillian of course. Mark Hamill of course. Gary Oldman of course. A couple other popular character actors were modeled as well...can't remember their names.
Once you understand what this game really represents, it isn't hard to get emotional when clear progress, as we see here in this trailer, is shown. Paying attention to Bishop's speech, from 1:53 forward, I couldn't help thinking about the journey of this project until now, with all the difficulties, the hate and skepticism the developers and the community have been dealing with, and also about what Star Citizen really means. "We will win... because we have to." takes a whole new dimension. This is not just a game. It's a statement. This is a call out to every game publisher out there who keep pressing on developers to deliver game after game within tiny schedules, caring only about their profit margins. Star Citizen is a quest to recover what gaming really is about. It's about community. It's about joy. About bringing forth the true dreams and visions of the developers without any dampenings or cuts made by those big publishers and their strict agendas. This project runs only on the developers resilience with their vision, and on the community's desire to play that vision. It's about freedom.
Are you trying to say that Robert Space Industries *doesn't* care about their profit margins? I think you've got some rose-coloured glasses on there mate. This is the same game developers who ask for up to $1000 and $1000 as part of founders packs before the game ships based off nothing but a prayer? Big publishers don't make cuts by the way for the most part. They want a particular game to be released by x time, and the game developers try to get it done. They release alpha builds/beta builds during development to these publishers as part of getting their next milestone payment. Sometimes game developers run into trouble, maybe due to incompetence like mismanagement, maybe because their tech isn't playing like it should, sometimes due to other reasons. If the game publishers can afford it, they'll give the developers an extension but sometimes they can't, and so the game gets released despite not being ready (although if they've encountered and fixed something like 80% of the bugs in their bug database, then they've arguably done all they can anyway before the public gets to discover about 10,000 more). Finally, here's some just cold-hard truth. RSI clearly cares about their profit margins. I'm sure they want to be a great game that builds a great community (like someone else said this game is either going to be a great success story or a massive flop), but they are still a business that has to support all their development teams, all the utilities (like rent, power, etc) + have capacity to grow their business. If you think they don't and they're just doing it all for their fans then you've got to be hellishly naive. Having said all that though; I do wish them success. I want them to be successful because it'll be the best way to silence their critics who said it couldn't be done. To be fair; RSI have bit off a huge workload and a lot of it is technically advanced - so yeah I want to see their result.
This will either be one of the greatest games ever, or one of the greates failures in gaming history. If it's the latter, at least the Internet will have a meltdown that will be a sight to behold.
The only way this would flop is if it never came out. Since it was crowdfunded, all the money that they have to make the game they got from selling it in advance. So the $200 million they got to make the game is from sales and not borrowed from a publisher. Once it's out, all future sales go straight into their pockets, so hopefully that will lead to them continuing to add to and develop the multiplayer portion for a long time. Since they don't have a publisher to force them to release it, I'm sure it won't be out until Chris Roberts actually thinks it's ready.

There still isn't because no other studio can innovate the way SC does, no engine on the market is available to develop a product like that and studios don't have the money or time to do deep R&D on engine functionalities (hence COD9999). That is why it is taking relatively so long, they have had to develop a good chunk of the engine for it, given the work they are doing and the fact that in 2012 you had a handful of people not 500 it really is not that long at all. Andromeda tried some R&D with procedural generation but ended up wasting a lot of time because they had a deadline and at some point had to scrap it as they couldn't get it done in time.
A better comparison would be No Man’s Sky, but as Revan Ruler said it is a bit of a risk to invest so much money into a game that is still in development
If you actually did a bit of research and watched some of the development videos you'd see that the games coming along well. I've flown the ships I pledged for in the Alpha but I guess you just know everything about it right?
@Revan Ruler haha those are specifically for very rich backers who want to spend some more money on the games development.. You can buy all the ships from that package with ingame money when the game is out so your uninformed statement is meaningless.
pokkedegwe I have. But so far they are not showing when it will be released. Not even in this video. They also have raised 200 million dollars for the game yet they still need more money. I am not saying that they are not working on it, or saying that this is Scam Citizen, but this is a very difficult project with already so much money invested, yet still needing more and they are stuck selling incomplete ships to keep going, which adds to the work. Another thing that is bothering to me is that they promised that after buying the game, it will be 100% Free 2 play. No micro transactions in any form, either cosmetic or anything that will give you and advantage at gameplay. However, wouldn’t is seem hippo critical considering that they are already selling ships for real money?
Gives me chills every time. When the Vanduul emerge, Mark Strong announcing they're under attack, the music, it's such a powerful moment. I can not wait!
That's the first reveal of Henry Cavil. I didn't recognize him in that helmet immediately, but after a while his facial mannerisms and voice stood out.
You know what? I was skeptical of star citizen but now? Yea now I see what they are going for. This isn't going to be a game that you play for a bit then move on to the next yearly release game. This will be a game you play for years because it will take years for anything to surpass it.
Its the single player component of Star Citizen, the largest crowd funded video game in history. A sort of sci fi mmorpg. Right up your alley in terms of lore really. :)
It's a super overpriced crowdfunding scam. Which is why after many many years of this supposed single player only portion supposed to release. It's still not available. Don't buy into it. Wait until your children are in college and maybe just maybe there will be an actual game by then. But I doubt it.
Don't listen to the COD99 people they don't know any better because they are wholly ignorant on how game development works. I'd suggest watching a couple of the shows they put out weekly for the community or the Citizen Con panels about the work they are doing, it is all very interesting and you can plainly see why calling this a scam is beyond moronic for yourself. You can honestly learn a lot about game development just watching & reading the avalanche of content they have as devs don't shy away from vulgarizing their subject. Worth mentioning that there are also free fly weeks periodically as the game is in open alpha for backers.
On the technology side, the render quality, the effort put into assets and textures, the composers work, the lore, actors mocap. You don't need to play the stable release of the game (maybe in 2-3 years) to see how hard they worked and how awesome the content is.
They finish this singleplayer Squadron 42 first and if it succeeds it will draw more attention to their MMO star citizen, should be a good strategy. In any case, if both succeed, this will be the greatest game ever.

pc master race used to be rational and not a bunch of zombie fanatics, now it seems they spend their money worst than console peasants and are even more irrational
At this point I am too. I feel the need to man age online communication is dragging develkopment of SC down, plus I like the idea of playing something with a concrete story that I can play and then leave once I finished. Too bad my country's currency dropped like a brick before I could buy the SQ42 extra lol.
I've been from the start when they announced a singleplayer mode. Sandbox games have a tendency of running out of enjoyable content pretty fast. Campaigns, if done well, often even have replay value (and in the specific case also probably need a lot less content to be finished, which is why i expect sq42 to release quite a bit sooner at least in beta).
How many of those futbol fans have a Rig that can haul this type of game? Many may want to play it but upon learning they having to invest $800 in a PC and then have to research what to buy and how to assemble a computer may be too much of bother for all but a tiny amount of the viewership.
The last kind of people we need bugging the devs are football fans complaining they cant run the rig on their 400 dollar pc or that its not on console...... No ty.
Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Mark Strong, Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Liam Cunningham, John Rhys-Davies With that cast alone I'd pay to see whatever they were doing. Add a game on top of that looking this good? I'm all over it.
Look for a free fly weekend and you should be able to test out the game for yourself. I think you can play Star Marine skirmishes during that as well, but I'm not certain.
The writing for VIII was the worst of any Star Wars movie made so that's a pretty low bar for comparison. VIII was probably the worst Star Wars movie of the entire franchise, Phantom Menance was a better written movie with fewer plot holes and problems.
First of all - not all. The sounds are added separately and stronlgy altered in this montage. And second - does not matter that something is ingame or not. What matters - can the moderate computers handle that.
Kris L Exactly, the visuals ARE all in-engine, same as the ones you see in the game. CIG doesn’t pull any Activision/Bethesda/Ubisoft stunts. When you fire up the game these high level graphics are what you see too. The camera work makes it extra spectacular in the trailer.
People already make movies with the current assets in game after launch they'll be able to do so much and with FOIP you won't have to animate the faces.
No, it wouldn't. They'd have it in production for 30 years, spend billions of dollars, and never actually have a movie. They'd have some nice clips though.
VFXNinja Jesus christ, why are you so butthurt about this? All I've seen you do is replying to every comment saying how it's terrible. If you don't like it, just ignore it. Why are you so interested in it if you believe it won't ever be released?
the guy in charge of this project has already made a movie; it was called 'wing commander' and it was really, really bad. saw it in the theater and wanted it to be good so much, but it just sucked :(
Everyone is crying about how long s42 and SC are taking to be made, but rdr2 took 8 years and star citizen has much greater scope, people should be happy they can play whilst the game develops instead of waiting from 2012 to probably something like 2025 or 2024. Star citizen is just getting its ground and the core gameplay is expected to be final by 2020 with squadron 42 beta
This comment aged like fine milk. Six years later and they just released a new buggy and glitch-filled "game play" video and announced a goal of releasing in 2026.
I like the concept that they are mysterious and maybe no ones seen them in person and survived and this is the first time we really encounter them. Wing commander film did it well with the karthul i think they was called. We maybe dont really know there plans other than they just are attacking and we have to fight them off. Hopefully the story is good and we can get invested in it. Most i would like main stream peeps to start to view it a little better. Looks good though no two ways about that. Hopefully its a good engaging story which which can follow through to the current history of the PU.
The fact that there's not a single element in this trailer that was pre-rendered, shows how ambitious this project is. But also that the devs behind it are capable of amazing things.
haters usually fall into the young and ignorant category, with some thinking CIG burned them because of promised release dates, while I can understand frustration at missed dates. A lot of haters also aren't really following the game and just want to get recognized as being knowledgeable and following their hate clique...and also trolls who don't care one way or the other, just want to get a rise, because SC backers tend to be more passionate (sometimes to a fault).
It's still a scam. That's why all the money is going into pretty cut-scenes and A-list mo-cap actors. Wake up sheeple, SC's dev studio will be bankrupt before you ever see a real game.
Schadenfreude is a real condition, you should get some therapy. Enjoyment at other people's failures or possible failures. It's regarded more despisable than envy. Brain-scanning studies show that schadenfreude is correlated with envy in subjects. Strong feelings of envy activated physical pain nodes in the brain's dorsal anterior cingulate cortex; the brain's reward centers, such as the ventral striatum, were activated by news that other people envied had suffered misfortune. The magnitude of the brain's schadenfreude response could even be predicted from the strength of the previous envy response.

@@clementeacevedo7768 We don't know for sure. However, considering that the trailer is spotlighting all the all the actors they have in the game, it's a fair guess that that specific vanduul will be Andy Serkis.
The few seconds I saw the Vanduul were infinitely more terrifying than all the times I encountered the Kett and The Archon from Andromeda (both from the trailer and the game). I never honestly had a fear of them like I did from Sovereign. The first time I heard Sovereign gave me goosebumps (that voice: both awesome and fear-inspiring). I hope the Vanduul aren't mindless villains, but more like Klingons, The Dominion, the Sith, or even Sovereign. They have a purpose and feel their mission is noble, but their actions reflect hostile and evil intent.

@Cameron Roberts : Remember Duke Nukem Forever? Remember Spore? These took ages to finish it and they were little more than 'meh'. When it comes to games, time does not neccessarily mean quality. Taking too much time without any real deadline can also be a negative thing when it comes to productivity and quality. Also, if they really take until 2040, i'm sure the scale of Star Citizen won't be anything special anymore then.
Games have a life-span. Technology getting better and the old engines and coding for obsolete hardware is NOT something you can overcome as a game dev. SC is at the end of it's life.
Nicely said :)
Here's to you! This is the only game project that keeps my inner child alive at this point.
To be fair; RSI have bit off a huge workload and a lot of it is technically advanced - so yeah I want to see their result.
and that kind of freeedom can only be achieved on a pc
But what is the Price of Freedom?

And its also made on CryEngine(lumberyard)
@@Freehotdawgs I didn't say flop. I said "failure". As in, it might suck and prove to be a brobdingnagian disappointment.

So happy all these years are coming together!
I KNOW @_@
Edit: And you know whats funny? With all the dev time I expected there to be something like it... there still isn't!
Everyone telling CIG to rush go look at what happened to Mass Effect Andromeda
At least me:a didn't charge you 27k for jpegs of ships you'll never get
A better comparison would be No Man’s Sky, but as Revan Ruler said it is a bit of a risk to invest so much money into a game that is still in development

Brain-scanning studies show that schadenfreude is correlated with envy in subjects. Strong feelings of envy activated physical pain nodes in the brain's dorsal anterior cingulate cortex; the brain's reward centers, such as the ventral striatum, were activated by news that other people envied had suffered misfortune. @@clementeacevedo7768 We don't know for sure. However, considering that the trailer is spotlighting all the all the actors they have in the game, it's a fair guess that that specific vanduul will be Andy Serkis.
1:44 Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth from Game of Thrones)
Uhm when you spend your whole dev budget on 'Hollywood Stars'
they still have about 400 million left to spend
never Have I clicked a link so fast, nice ending for the stream xD
Looks like the Mass Effect Andromedia we should have gotten.
it definitly has a mass effect vibe, with this...space ship-drama and big threat coming to us- thing. but i cant resist. really love it
I think even the naval dress uniforms have that Systems Alliance aesthetic.
Maybe you're a bit younger than I am, but this game (Squadron 42) is more or less a new Wing Commander.
Yeah, I'm old enough to have play'd that game and X-Wing and Descent Freespace and such ... ;)
I got my first computer in 1991 (a 386 DX/2 66 with 2 MB of RAM) and the first PC game that I played on that computer was Wing Commander 2. I've been around. :)
Spectacular work done by a ground breaking team! Those couragious few that are part of this history in the making, may you excel in all you do.
This game looks like the next crysis, i hope its out well polished and even more advanced.
Anything with Mark hamil being a badass again I'll sign up for, still suffering from tlj.
This game will cleanse us of all toxins still lingering in our systems from last jedi.
I literally got goosebumps watching this. So excited for this and so proud to be a backer. I've never put money into a game and felt it was as worth it as this game has been. To be able to support this development has truly been a joy. So excited to experience SQ42 and see everyone in the 'verse!
Rear Admiral LTI backer here! I wish I were employed so I could keep throwing money at these guys. Maybe soon, then I can subscribe to their stuff and help the revenue flow
While I'm believing in the game and supporting it, I hope that you're making a joke or sarcastic comment. Just in case: there are more important things in life than backing a computer game ;-)
@@yr9980 Oh goodness, I know. I'm a husband and father, SC pales in comparison to those things, as do all games and everything else other than my salvation.
I meant it more in the vein of money spent on video games. So many games now are micro transaction focused and while I don't mind spending money on them none give me the sense of satisfaction I've gotten from being a part of the development of SC =). All the money I've put into SC, and other games I play is disposable income that I spend on a hobby, never thought I'd be proud to put money behind a game, just thought I'd get the enjoyment out of it that I pay for. Was just trying to put into words that SC has given me more. =)
How are you feeling about it 3 years later?
@@sandweed i just backed another 250$ I'm feeling good
Dude its gonna be awesome once it runs smooth and everything is fixed up nice. I will pay my gf a few dollars an hour to shake my gaming chair while I play for immersion.
3.3 is running super smooth...50-90 fps for me so far. Try it out.
@Chris Hoesel: That is not the experience most are having... Even their demo the other day was not hitting 60fps and they MUST have been using the best rig they could for optimization.
I don't know how. :( It does not update.
They're rolling out 3.3 access in batches, the first group for the PTU went out just recently.
It's never coming out you complete dumbass
Oh, lord, i'm really looking forward to this upcoming masterpiece. I am 40 years old and loved to play the Wing Commander series back in the days. This can be awesome if they won't mess it up. Greets from germany !
Hahah you will be 50 soon
Still no game old man
Better Starwars plot than what the Last jedi gave us
I'm so ready for this. You got to nail that flight model, though, CIG.
@1:54
Chris Roberts: What if we use that line from the Planet of the Apes movie with a mixture of Independence Day?
Writer: Cool
I... uuuhhh… I need this in my life. I really need this. This looks like the greatest sci-fi game in a long time, and I really want that to be true. I cannot wait for this now, I'm in.
I don't care how long this game takes. I don't care how long Star Citizen takes. People are very quick to kick off when games are released when they aren't ready. Release it in 10 years, in 2040.. I simply don't care. I will play it when it's ready, and I will absolutely love it. The same people moaning about the time it's taking and it being a scam are the same ones who would moan about an unpolished game. I'm ridiculously excited still!
Like...how old are you? If you are willing to wait so long.
@GUnit2214 does it matter? you think after an age cutoff date, we can't play games anymore?
They don't have anything close to a pre-alpha game, just a tech demo, which is cool, but it's not a game by any means.
@@sqlevolicious You don't know what a tech demo is right? A tech demo has almost no content, no features, only basic function. For example only one spaceship which can fly forward, backward, right and left, that's all.
Star citizen, the mass effect rpg we need but not the one we deserve. #FuckAndromeda
I got heavy Mass Effect vibes when the music started kicking up. Like good Mass Effect vibes.
Can't wait to play this in 2016 !
The battlestar galactica vibes are amazing! :D
Kieknight Battlestar ain't got nothing on this
