Greedy Geophagus Get the BOOT for New German Discus! (And African Cichlids)

- My fat Geophagus fish have been growing so fast and it took me a while to realize why...cause they're eating all the extra food!
Discus fish require multiple daily feedings but it was the Geophagus eating the majority of the food, depriving the Discus of their much needed feast!
So...I decided to move the Geo's out and make more space for my NEW German Bloodline Discus! Now ALL the Discus can get their proper fill!
I also received a new shipment of some beautiful African Cichlid STUDS in this action-packed video!

Hi Kev, when you fed your arrowanas freeze-dried krill, do you just pop them in or do you rehydrate the food first?
New to the game: one my four Ryukins (5cm long) keeps floating to the top of my 32L tank and struggles to swim to the bottom. Almost zero ammonia, all other levels are good. Only had the tank and fish for 2wks now. Was cycled properly, used all the same products you use. Any thoughts? Is he bloated? Appreciate you mate. Found your channel yesterday, binged 20 videos and subscribed with notes on 🙏😊

Damn, I just put baby geos in my discus tank....everyone seems to be eating, but the geos are still so small, and my discus is around 4-5 inches. I guess I will keep an eye out from now thanks for the video.
Should be fine for now, but as the Geo’s grow they’ll start hogging all the food. I really wanted it to work too cause it’s an amazing looking mix! 😁
Another great video Kev! Can I ask….when you quarantine the discus for the 4 weeks or so do you still do the daily 50% water change and heavy feeding in the qt tank as to not stunt their growth? Gonna get some stendker soon and trying to learn as much as possible before taking the dive! :)
No, I hardly feed at all. Since you dont want to disturb the water with water changes due to the meds in the tank, you have to be attentive to the water parameters. Over feeding could cause Nitrate issues during quarantine. I kept the tank dosed with Prime daily along with the QC meds, and fed very little.

I have this issue with my black skirt tetras and dwarf gourami . They start swarming really fast and get food before the school of cherry barbs. They’re all hanging out in plants waiting for food. I’ve had to start feeding flakes and sinking mini pellets
That’s always the main issue when having a community tank. Some will always get more food than others. Flakes are a good idea as they break up into many small pieces for everyone to have some 😁
What tank size do you recommend for discus I’m thinking of getting some and also what do you feed them
Hello Marine-my discus eat off the bottom and take there sweet time eating. i just have panda cory's in with them they are now 6-7 inches, i also feed a lot of blackworms which i buy from Eastern Aquatics. Joe H Navy Seabee

Bro, u drove to Connecticut for discus when we have shops that sell all types of discus around the island haha. Ive been keeping discus a few years and i have stunted some in my early go with them now i only buy adults to not deal with the juveniles. discus are hard to keep, in the sense that it’s difficult to raise them to adult size.
That is the hardest part, getting over that Juvi hump. I've looked on the island bro and never found a German Bloodline like these guys. Wait till you see the adults this dude has, full video coming soon!
Hey Kev....on the subject of cross contamination....hopefully u never experience it but keep in mind the only other cichlids that can get it are uaru and angelfish. Also on the live the other night u mentioned u had Paraguard. Paraguard does NOTHIN for it. Your dealing with discus now bro, I have wilds I keep formalin based meds on hand as you should should u ever experience this disease. You would treat with formalin and heavy dosing of salt.

What disease are you referring to? There are many bro, and Paraguard handles many. I also use Cupramine with my Discus while in quarantine.

I have a Solution move all discus to 150 move all geos and severums in with arowanas 👊🏻 that way you can keep more severums down the track
450 has live plants in it and I plan to add many more. Thats why the severums cant go in there.

It’s possible the geos were just kicking up the poop and it was getting picked up by the filter. I doubt the discus are pooping THAT much more. Love the videos! Keep them coming sir
Geo's do contribute to that...but this is way too much poop for them to have handled it on their own. Either way, solve one problem, create another lol
Hi i saw all of your videos and i dont understand how you can change 80% of water and dont get bacteria blooming?!!! I just changed 40% three times and all of them i got white water after these changes. Please share your secret about this…how to avoid all this? I dont have uv filter and sum under the tank
Few reasons...your tanks could be immature and havent established strong enough beneficial bacterial colonies yet, So when you add in new tap water with dissolved solids, you reset the bacterial bloom. OR, your tap water is LOADED with dissolved solids and you're feeding the Heterotrophic bacteria which causes bacterial blooms. Here's a good video - ua-cam.com/video/46fcHvoellI/v-deo.html
