Love how you moved them to a quarantine tank ASAP after noticing the stress! Shows how much you care and pay attention to them. Such beautiful fishes! Hope they get to join the big guys soon !
Thanks! I’m always extra cautious when adding new guys, especially straight from bag to main tank. This was rare for me but wanted to show how to use the PP dip. Glad you enjoyed it 😁
Just some small tips of the video when I add my fish to get acclimated I remove the first bag only because the first bag has writing with marker ink that might be toxic some places like in this video came with fiberglass and those fibers are dangerous for us humans when inhaled imagine floating inside the tank so remove main bag rinse with bag in water if you have obsessive behavior then rinse them in tank water and what else do we get out of this video adding one fish to a established tank can be possible only in emergency situations 😀 well great video hope the guys make a speedy recovery peace ✌

Kev Awesome been on the Low for a minute trying to by a house 🏡 and I got a few new fish 🐠 too to replace the one that died but your fish 🐠 are looking good 😎
P.S. I had a betta splendens with similar symptoms to your albino, I read it can mean swim bladder disease, but maybe was also some stress-induced issue. He was laying on the side, barely swimming, I gave him an epsom salt bath, 15 minutes, he is doing fine now.
Hey I’m a bit new to the hobby and Brother let me tell you that most of my questions have been answered by watching your videos and Im definitely understanding how things should be done. Keep up the great work
Kev - lots of respect for your knowledge, but didn’t think it made sense to pour new bag water into the bucket after a fish had the PP bath. Perhaps a second clean bucket w tank water? Just a thought.
I thought about that, and that would have been better, but since the rinse bucket had 5 gallons of clean tank water, plus prime, adding the bag water in there really didnt change any of the parameters. But I do think I left them in the rinse bucket for far too long...while setting up the camera for the transition intoto the tank. Sometimes its hard doing the actual task at hand while also worrying about capturing it all on video....lesson learned!
Hmm! I've used a pp dip for decor and new live plants if I bought them anywhere other than my local shop. Never done it for any of my new fish, but again good to know that it's safe to!
The Ruby Red is going to look very nice when his colors pop up, that's what I like on you, always keeping yr eyes on yr fish, Gabriel from Jack Watlley discus breeder in Florida always uses the magic purple (P/P) on the babies fish, but the dosage has to be write, otherwise yr fish well perish, as always. very well done, always teaching the new persons in the hobby, make a video when you put them in the main tank, take care, be safe!!
As you know I LOVE watching your videos So the question what do you think caused those 2 fish to act like they did ? Was it they were allready stressed before the dip and the dop just made it worse ? I respect your honesty Keep it up my man !
My thinking is that I either left them in the dip too long, or they stayed in the bag too long. If you noticed, I mentioned the albinos bag had a lot of poop in it. That’s not good, that would mean there may have been elevated levels of ammonia in his bag, causing more stress as well. But I’m leaning towards too long in the dip…10 seconds flat would have been better but I did 15.
Kevin I dont't have fish but I have turtles and use your videos as a guide. Keep up the good work. You explain everything so even a first time aquarium pet owner could understand. I have one question about cleaning your filter. All the videos show how to clean the filter but never mention if you should clean the hoses. Do you clean the hoses also?
Thank you Dorothy for that positive feedback. Glad I’ve been able to help! Normally you shouldn’t need to clean your hoses. And if you do it isn’t often. If your hoses are spitting out gunk every time you restart it, yes you should remove them and flush them out. But more importantly is the reason that’s happening. It’s most likely due to a bunch of uneaten food getting sucked into your filter intakes. Either reduce your feedings or reduce the filter flow during feedings…or both 😁
I love your videos…. I have a question. I have a 125 gallon tank. I cycled it with 15 gold fish. But now that it has cycled I ordered 20 male 3 inches Africa cichlids from The ifish store peacock/haps. Do I have to add Stabilization n prime daily once I put them in my tank? If yea how long? Thank you. N I will remove the gold fish once the cichlids get here…
Glad you ended with that sentence lol No your tank will remain cycled once you swap the fish. I would add prime and stability on that first day though just to be on the safe side.
Wouldn't rinsing them in the old bag water make them susceptible to any disease or parasites that they may have had initially? Seems like this should be a 3 bucket system. Med bucket, drain bucket, post med rinse bucket.
Kev, What's your thoughts on the size of the new fish you buy. I have a mixture of 2.5"- 4.0" Peacocks. should I just purchased the size of my smallest fish?
Potassium Permanganate is a strong dip. Because the fish were in shipping for so long and you did not acclimate them to your tank parameters, doing that sort of dip straight after taking them out of the bag then putting them into your tank is likely what stressed them and could have potentially killed them. This sort of dip would have been fine if you acclimated them to your quarantine tank (assuming its the same parameters as your main display) for accouple hours, then attempted the dip. This would allow the fish to recover from stress of shipping, get used to the new tank water and be able to fight the stress of the dip. No professional here, but just my thoughts and experience from using PP!! Nevertheless, love your fish!
My tank water and shippers tank water are equivalent. So the only thing they needed to be acclimated to was the temperature, which I did. I do agree with you though that the dip added more stress. I think it was a combination of their stress from shipping plus too long in the dip and too long in the rinse (which wasnt oxygenated). I tried to emphasize in the editing with text that 10 seconds of dip was more than enough. Luckily I saved them and learned something myself. learning everyday in this great hobby!
Kev…if you are pouring tank water from the bag in the bucket and putting them in a pp dip to possibly kill anything on them why would we put them back in the same tank water to rinse off?? Just was wondering this thanks for any information bro!!
Hey kev, just a quick one! How much hydrogen peroxide (3%) is needed to neutralise the potassium permanganate at 2ppm concentration?! Thanks in advance 👍
Thats a great question Shane. Unfortunately I dont have an accurate answer. What I can tell you is the hydrogen peroxide will begin to change the color of the PP to a brown. When its all completely brown thats all the HP you need.
It may not have been necessary, but the video was intended to inform viewers of what a PP dip is and how to use it. It was the perfect opportunity to make a video about PP dip which many dont even know what it is. This channel is for all level of aquarists. I know it may be hard to understand that from your perspective.
Ya that's what I was thinking. Then moving them from the bag to the dip to the bucket and then to the tank after being in the bag atleast overnight. Then doing the water change on top of that that's alot of changes so fast for a stressed out fish. I wouldn't do none of that myself. But everyone is different and has their own ways of doing things. Very nice tanks and fish.
Hey Kev on your Instagram you had put up a picture of two frontosa what happened to them we’re they yours because I am a frontosa lover . Just asking 😊
Damn, I just realized some bad mistakes I made when I set up my tank..ugh. I have a tiny sweetwater tank though, same issues..wish I could keep a huge saltwater one like that.
My guess is that the Potassium Permanganate affected your fish, and every time you took the next fish out of its bag you washed a little bit of Potassium Permanganate solution off the net in to your fresh rinse water. You did the Marginatus last which explains why that one is ok as it was exposed for the least amount of time. The other 2 were exposed for far longer. Perhaps only a small concentration but enough to cause issues. I would skip the Potassium Permanganate dip.
I also believe it was a combination of time in the bag water, too much time in the dip and too much time in the rinse water (which wasnt oxygenated) Like you said marginatus was doing the best because he spent less time in the rinse water. Thats why after filming, during editing I tried to stress that 10 seconds in the dip was more than enough....learning everyday in this beautiful hobby!
@@KaveManAquatics Yup. It's .5 grams per gallon. In my experience .6 is way less forgiving. Strict 10 to 12 secs (a timer is a must if your fish are valued over 50 bucks) and you rinse each fish right after the dip. My procedure is to get them out of the bag into buckets of tank water. Dip them after 30 minutes in the bucket. Rinse them individually and plop them in. The water change is great. In addition, I section the tank with egg crate and put the new guys away from the established fish. Then remove crate right before filling up.
I learned that Albino fish like that Red Ruby don’t do well because of their vision…. It’s kinda like being in a haze when the light is on and they can’t defend themselves.
No, OT’s used for external parasites and fungus. Sunken belly is a symptom of internal parasites. Search UA-cam for “Kaveman internal parasites” for my video
Hi Kev. I am based in London and cant seem to buy Seachem stress guard from anywhere . The ones I can get is like from ebay which cost over £100.00 with shipping. Would u recommend any other product that does the same job. All my other products are from seachem like stability and prime. Thanks brother
Great video I am not a fan of the PP I have never used it because of my perception of no need to put fish through medication just because. Would rather do 2 weeks.
Even though it isnt proven yet, number 1 is to remove any activated carbon from your tank. Some say it can cause Hith. Next is to obviously have very clean water with low nitrates and high levels of minerals. ALso make sure you have plenty of bio-media to support your Oscar. Theres so many causes of HITH theres no 1 treatment for it. You could also try treating with general cure to attack both internal parasites and any secondary bacterial infections
I'm not sure it makes sense to rinse them in the bucket the bag-water is drained into - surely that'll carry whatever infection or parasites you're worried about? Seems to me it'd be more reliable to go from the dip to a 3rd bucket of clean tank water and not risk the cross-contamination.
Yes I agree that would be an improvement to the method I chose. Although I was more worried about physical parasites on the body rather than what would potentially be in the water column.
No names yet. I lost the ruby red, I think he was blind and he would have had to get euthanized anyway. The red shoulder and marginatus are both in the main tank doing great! I'll posting a video on IG and facebook soon 😊
That’s good news. Look forward to seeing them down the road after they are out of confinement & join the Gen population with rest of the fish tank crew.
Hey kev whats up brother. I have ordered fish from beantown also. Three fish a lawanda peacock a malawi trout and a red cap letrenops all were healthy and nice looking but i did have one problem they were all undersized from what i ordered and paid for so i contacted them and lets just say they weren't real great about it. Even though i sent pictures with a ruler they didn't agree which pissed me off. I didn't really want them to do anything about it and i told them that but they still argued with me well i haven't ordered anything else from them. Now i would say they have a very large selection of fish to choose from and those three fish are doing great and they have put some size on which is what i wanted. Really its not that big of a deal i just wish they would have treated me better after all I' am the customer. When i buy fish and I've bought from all the well known names I've had issues from time to time but it was handled much better. Maybe some day i will give them another chance. In regards to the fish you bought the dip you gave them definitely messed with them. I think it's safer to quarantine them and wait to see if there is a problem if you dip them when they have been just shipped there at a risky time due to stress and lack of food because as you probally know they are usually shipped not fed. Sometimes as fish keepers less is more so my methods have worked for a very long time so i don't chance it. Once i treat the show tank with medicated food for one week and no new fish are added i don't do anything unless there is a problem. Take it for what it's worth just one man's opinion. As always i support you and love your podcast. Peace brother
Sorry you had a bad experience with them. Hopefully they can make up for it in the future. I agree quarantine and patience is the better option, which is what I normally do. I did the PP dip in this case for the video to inform viewers about what it is and how to use it.
Im heavily debating whether I should add them to the main with other boys or just add more frontosa to the 75 and make that a dedicated frontosa tank 😁😁
i will never use anything in my tanks like that all i do is use water from the tank they are going in leave them in a bucket for 20 mins.i have never lost any fish that way.
They technically shouldnt be mixed together...if you're already having a problem, it isnt going to get any better. Have you watched my free webinar yet? you should...link in the description.
I want to order some fish from beantown, can’t get them on the phone or an answer to my email. Ron’s and Snakeriver are good at responding to questions. I will call and send another email.

They may be dying from other causes and just ending up at the filter. A filters intake is not usually strong enough to suck fish to it and kill them.

Fin rot and ich, yes. Really anything externally. It will also help with secondary infection from HITH but that starts with an internal parasite.
What's up bro. Is there a way I can get in contact with you. Huge fan and you inspired me to start my fish tank
Thanks bro! I have a consulting service if you’re interested. Check it out - kavemanaquatics.com/kaveman-coaching
Do PP help in sunken belly issues in fish..
Hi, the German Amazon has stress guard and seems to deliver to UK as far as I can see.
@@m67se27 Thank u ever so much. Never knew that. Have ordered it already. Actually the stress guard has taken my stress off( lol).Bless u. Tc
Stress coat from API performs similarly to stress guard. Hopefully thats available in your location
Great video I am not a fan of the PP I have never used it because of my perception of no need to put fish through medication just because. Would rather do 2 weeks.
I hear you. I usually fall in that same category but felt it was a good time to share the info just in case anyone ever needed it.
@@KaveManAquatics I agree good to see all possibilities out there
Good save bro hope they are doing well
Thanks, so far so good!
Aren't you putting them back in the water they came in after the dip
Yo Kev do you know if there is anything out there that can cure HITH?
Even though it isnt proven yet, number 1 is to remove any activated carbon from your tank. Some say it can cause Hith. Next is to obviously have very clean water with low nitrates and high levels of minerals. ALso make sure you have plenty of bio-media to support your Oscar. Theres so many causes of HITH theres no 1 treatment for it. You could also try treating with general cure to attack both internal parasites and any secondary bacterial infections
present kev 🔥 from Philippines
I'm not sure it makes sense to rinse them in the bucket the bag-water is drained into - surely that'll carry whatever infection or parasites you're worried about? Seems to me it'd be more reliable to go from the dip to a 3rd bucket of clean tank water and not risk the cross-contamination.
Yes I agree that would be an improvement to the method I chose. Although I was more worried about physical parasites on the body rather than what would potentially be in the water column.
Maybe add some more rocks in quarantine tank for them to hide & recoup
That could cause a territorial battle.
Awesome 👍👍
Thanks 🤗
Did you just pollute the rinse water bucket with the bag of water?
Pollute? The rinse water has much more volume of water plus prime to detoxify any ammonia from the bag water. Pollute? No
@@KaveManAquatics Thank you amazing tank, and videos thank you again for sharing.
Does focus help with shyness
No, Focus helps to bind meds to food
“Oh right”
lol you caught that 🤣
Any names for them yet and how are they doing ??
No names yet. I lost the ruby red, I think he was blind and he would have had to get euthanized anyway. The red shoulder and marginatus are both in the main tank doing great! I'll posting a video on IG and facebook soon 😊
How’s Lucky & Chance doing? Hopefully they pulled through.
lol, I like those names...both still alive and doing well in quarantine at the moment. Albino might have sight issues, not sure yet. unfortunately.
That’s good news. Look forward to seeing them down the road after they are out of confinement & join the Gen population with rest of the fish tank crew.
Is that real rock in tank or is that a background picture?
All my backgrounds are from aquadecorbackgrounds.com Tell them KaveMan sent you, lol Also use code Kaveman10 at checkout for a 10% discount 😊
What’s that you use to suck the water out
Vivosun 2600 GPH Water Pump. Find it here - kaveman-aquatics.myshopify.com/products/vivosun-aquarium-water-pump-2600-gph
You need to add another big tank for more fish
lol thanks for the suggestion!

Yes!!!!!! Let's go!!!!
How's the fish now?
Lost the ruby red a few days ago but the red shoulder and marginatus are doing great in the main tank!
what happened to your frontosa that you got?
They're doing great. In my 75 grow out, growing 😊
@@KaveManAquatics awesome can't wait to see them with the other ones
Im heavily debating whether I should add them to the main with other boys or just add more frontosa to the 75 and make that a dedicated frontosa tank 😁😁
But then I wont have a grow out and need to buy another tank!!! 😩😩🤣🤣
Hello, are all your fish salt water fish. Ola Dixon
None are lol They are all freshwater fish. 😁
That was some good dip lol
Yes Sirr lol
i will never use anything in my tanks like that all i do is use water from the tank they are going in leave them in a bucket for 20 mins.i have never lost any fish that way.
Congrats
My oscar is chasing other African cichlids.....any solution?😓
They technically shouldnt be mixed together...if you're already having a problem, it isnt going to get any better. Have you watched my free webinar yet? you should...link in the description.
Best video
Thank you bro! 😊
I want to order some fish from beantown, can’t get them on the phone or an answer to my email. Ron’s and Snakeriver are good at responding to questions. I will call and send another email.
Sorry bro, can’t really speak for their customer support. They may be offline on a Sunday. I’m sure you’ll get a response Monday morning 😁
