Movies name is "The Breadwinner" it's loosely based off the book series following a family living under Taliban controlled Afghanistan, and when the father is arrested for having a foreign education, the daughter Parvana has to disguise herself as a boy to go out in public and work to provide for the family, the book is a really good read as well as the second one

Throughout most of history, people got betrothed (and had kids) earlier, because people died earlier; anything above 30 was considered “old” until about 4 centuries ago.
However, it should ALSO be noted that you were not necessarily head of household when you got married, since extended families lived together for many generations in other parts of the world.

religion actually rallied people together and put peace beacuse everyone had something in common, it actually putted moral codes. Fun fact : Islam is the first religion to give women right, when arabs were burying female toddlers for the simple reason that they were girls, islam stopped people from doing that, and if u look into islam, women have so much rights, muslim women were the first one who actually had the right to work, they could keep their money all to themselves and could let only the husband provide for the family, when marrying, the husband family actually had to pay the wife, education was important for both ur son and daughter, and you couldnt just lt ur son get educated whil ur daughter was left whitout it.dont think that taliban are actually following islam rules, they are just picking what they like and ignore the rest, Islam is the most joined religion in the world and its not for nothing. It's indeed heartbreaking to witness the suffering and resilience of children who are impacted by conflict and war. Hence why they come up every so often with another body part that women should cover while men's appearance remain the same. I respect Islam but I agree more with Christianity since it encourages people to take responsibility for their actions, including men who feel "tempted" by women. So, the movie is *not* propaganda, I know because of how the demonizing of Idris makes it feel like you are supposed to hate him for his culture, but instead it implies that Idris is immature and holds these ignorant belief that are brought on him by the strict cultural customs of the Taliban, Islam itself does not force women to cover themselves, it's not supposed to do that, nor is it supposed to defend perverse treatment of children and woman by saying they should cover themselves. The point is to make you realize that Idris is treating the culture and religion as strict and demanding because those are the values of the people in his ear. He's not simply a Muslim. He's apart of the Taliban, who force their beliefs onto all of the countries they control.
Also, this is based on a book by the same name. It is a gorgeous story. Pain, unfairness, torture, friendship, etc. The film itself is great. I imagine the books are better. It draws a realistic picture of the time. A necessary tale.

@@mikehorb9485You clearly haven't seen this movie (title is: The Breadwinner. It was nominated for an Oscar)
The Breadwinner is about a family living in Taliban controlled Afghanistan in the 90s. The father here isn't an extremist. The war he's referring to was the Soviet-Afghan war. He was not a member of the Taliban, and when he says the war "we fought" he's using the word "we" loosely - as in the entirety of the afghan people fighting to protect their independence from Soviet Invasion. Unfortunately that war left the democratic government of the time weak, which allowed the Taliban to take power. He didn't lose his leg in some holy war, he lost it when his home was destroyed in the bombings of Kabul during the war.
The father laments the loss of the days of the republic when women weren't treated so harshly. He lies in this scene when he claims his daughter is promised to someone (he's just trying to get the Taliban guy to back off). And he later gets arrested for teaching women how to read.

A woman can only show her hair to her husband. Not sure what part of the religion this is based off of. You also can't show your mouth cause it can be considered as flirting.
People will chastise the young man for saying I need a wife but in their culture that would have been a blessing to save the girl if someone took offense to her. It's really wild how different others have to live.
Another side note. The guy losing his leg in war would not give him special privileges. It's an honor to fight for your people. Death is not to be feared for there are just as many benefits of dying as there are living to fight another day.

The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979 for multiple reasons. One of the main motivations was to prop up a Soviet-friendly communist regime that faced opposition from various Afghan factions. The Soviet Union wanted to maintain influence in Afghanistan and prevent an ideological threat from spreading to neighboring countries.
The rise of the Taliban in the mid-1990s can be attributed to various factors. One reason was the power vacuum created after the Soviet withdrawal, which led to a prolonged state of civil war and instability in Afghanistan. Amidst this chaos, the Taliban, composed mainly of Pashtun fighters and influenced by a strict interpretation of Sunni Islam, emerged as a force that promised stability, security, and the imposition of their own brand of Islamic law. Some Afghan individuals, disillusioned by the ongoing factional conflicts and lawlessness, found appeal in the Taliban's message and joined their ranks.
The United States had multiple interests in Afghanistan. During the Soviet-Afghan War, the U.S. viewed the conflict through the lens of the Cold War and saw an opportunity to challenge Soviet expansionism. The U.S. provided financial and military support to the mujahideen fighters, including Afghan factions that later evolved into the Taliban.
After the Soviet withdrawal, U.S. interests diversified. One of the key concerns was to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven for terrorism that could threaten American national security. Additionally, the U.S. sought to promote stability in the region, combat drug trafficking from Afghanistan, and protect its geopolitical interests in South and Central Asia.
It is important to note that the motivations and interests of the U.S., the Soviet Union, and the Afghan people are multifaceted and complex, and this summary provides a broad overview of the main factors involved.

What truly impresses me is how well this captures the philosophy of new Khawarij based societies.
Of course there is some exaggeration for the sake of portrayal, but it goes to show what the distorting of religion does to a desperate nation.
In many ways there's a clear criticism of Islam that spawns from ignorance. But it also shows interesting books of "Sufi" (Mysticism) ideologies that are deemed "heretic" or "forbidden", although this was mainstream Islam in actual Muslim empires which these new "Islamic" states seek to emulate, displaying the irony and ignorance of the governments in the face of their own faith and history.
Many muslims will find this cartoon offensive, but this is a reality we need to acknowledge, and should combat these ideologies which have no roots in our authentic tradition.
[Edit: No, it is *impermissible* to marry a child. It's strictiy forbidden in multiple narrations and the Qur'an. Every single one of the disciple scholars of the prophets and companions forbid this practice as an "abomination", namely Imam Malik. Some will mention how The Prophet supposedly married a 6 year old, this narration is inauthentic, and all three narrators from which we have this hadith are unacceptable narrators, this hadith also clashes with *at least* 7 other hadiths with stronger chains in Bukhari (the book that is referenced) itself. Also it is known that Aisha was around 67 in 53 Hijri, run back the clock and see where that takes you. All authentic sources point to her being in her late teens or early 20s, and I swear by Allah, any muslim that claims otherwise will be held accountable in the day of judgement.]
