I'm a 65 yr old widower that has been trying to imatate the gravey and liver that moma and grandmon use to make. From watching your video I think I have it now thank you very much
Ok, number 1, I don’t know how to cook, 2, I don’t eat liver & onions, but my 81 yr old mama asked me to make liver onions for her, so I go looking at videos & happen across Miss Curlinda & I can tell you that I surprised my mama by cooking with Miss Curlinda & I made liver onions and not leather & onions. Plus, when I need a friend from now on, I hop on over and watch Miss Curlinda cook & I feel like I’ve spent the day with my bestie. I love this lady. Her voice is so beautiful and soothing. I hope anyone who is lucky enough to sit in this ladies kitchen don’t take her for granted. I love you Miss Curlinda ❤
I called my grandmother (she raised me) to ask her what she wanted to eat today. I'm about to pick her up from the retirement home. She said, "I want liver and onions with gravy!" She made it all the time for my grandfather (RIP), but I have NEVER attempted to! So, I came to UA-cam! At 89 years young, she's STILL such the critic! Wish me well!❤😂 👀
Yum. I’m making this today. The difference in my preparation, I plan to soak the liver and buttermilk just for a little while, 30 to 60 minutes while I make rice or peel potatoes or cut up onions whatever what I like about your recipe that’s different from all the others is you make a roux with your onions and flour like in Cajun cooking I love the way you talk and explain things so I subscribed
You are keeping your grandma’s memory alive and giving her immortality by passing on her magic on up through the ages. She’s got to be looking down with a big smile on her face and nodding in approval of you. Bless you! 😘
40 way gravy!!! If my gravy isn't thick; it isn't right!!! Soul food cooking!!! Took my back to my childhood of learning how to cook with my granny!!!!
Man, I just found out why my gravy never tasted right… I learned TODAY that salt and accent brings flavor 😂 before it was nasty as heck NOW it’s the best I’ve ever made prior it taste like paste 😅😂
Use this recipe last night liver came out extremely tender and very very taste family was very surprised. I'm a father I cook 80% of the time for my family they love the liver thank you!!!!
Hey beautiful, I am 63 and and I used to make this all the time for my late husband. And I have to brag on you.. You are such a good cook.. the main thing about a good cook is patience. And good gravy takes a minute and you ALWAYS cook your flour and grease alot browner than you want your gravy. And you my dear sure know how us grandmas do it!!! (Smile) I am making this now. I hope you and yours have a blessed week.. Im a new sub. And of coarse I gave you a thumbs up! Lots of love from Biloxi Beach Mississippi.
Lemme tell you some Curlinda, you just made my mouth water when the gravy turned that nice dark brown Color. I sure can’t wait to make me some and I hope it come out as good as it look. Now I will keep you posted my dear beloved take care and keep them recipes coming, Much love to you from the big apple🤗Shalom🙏🏽
Yes ma'am!!!! I can't believe I have found a true old timey cook, who cherishes and shares tradition! Love it! I'm 70 honey, and learned to cook like you! My kids love my liver ....and guess what...my mama taught me to cook it just like your grandma taught you. My son asked me to cook him some liver for his birthday hahaha!!! Yes....I keep my dipping flour for gravy....and keep my old grease! Thank you for the memories, love ya
I am a single man, and I wanted some liver, and onions and not just some gravy but as u call it, some “ 40 weight gravy”, and just because u did it with the corn, so did I, let me tell u this had me looking for somebody’s momma to slap lol :) hey thanks it was really good and ur instructions were very easy to follow. I will be looking for more recipes from you, once again thanks for sharing.
I just made liver and onions, but unfortunately I just found your recipe video. I am definitely following your recipe next time. Thanks for posting this
Never cooked liver and onions myself before! I don’t even eat it but my boyfriend been talking about it for weeks so I wanted to make it for him. I followed this recipe and HUNNY!!! He LOVED IT😆still talking about it the next day! Thank you for sharing and I loved watching you ❤
I've made this recipe 4 times and it comes out right every time! I have to cook along with the video every time because for some reason, it makes it all that more special lol.
I just made this and it was delicious! Her Grandma wasn’t wrong. I made it almost just like she suggested and it was easy and not time consuming. Pay attention to the color of the rue because it’s important. The darker the rue the more beef flavor that the gravy will have. Thanks for the recipe.
Beef flavor but not “liver” flavor? I’ll know myself because this video is the way I’m doing it next time. Except I will soak in milk first for at least two hours.
First time watching your channel. I don't know what you do for a living, but if your not a teacher you have missed your calling. You're fantastic at teaching! Thank you so much for this video. Subscribed! .

(but my Mama, like yours, would slap you back) God Bless You for teaching me how to cook liver and onions like my Grandmother used to make. Much love to you and your family!
I haven't had Liver & Onions in years... But I miss this dish so much, as my grandmother would make this often and especially in the wintertime back home in Ohio. My grandmother passed away years ago and I certainly miss her and this as well as many of her other recipes. And she made it the exact same way you've made it here. It's so delicious! Not sure why UA-cam had this in my suggestions but so glad they did! This is how I was taught to make gravy, back in 1972. I had just moved to New Orleans, and found a job as a new teller at Whitney National Bank. One of the older ladies I worked with, taught me how to make liver, onions, and gravy, this same way! So good. Guesses not needed to figure out what just went onto my grocery list!
Wish I had seen this before I made mine. You were right, I had leather instead of liver!. Your video is bookmarked for my next attempt. Thanks for sharing.
Love this recipe! Subsribed! Like your attitude and confidence as a home CHEF! I lost my Grandma and my mother when they were young before they could pass on recipes! So I got to have people who got the knowledge from their own granny and mommas! I hope you do tons of videos just like this! You are easy to follow!!!keep it up!!
I made this the day I viewed the video because it look so darn good. It turned out “smacktacular” just like she said. It was a big hit! I had lots of left over gravely that we just kept eating over rice for a few days. YUMMY. Going forward, this will be my go to recipe for liver and onions! Thank you.

Cool, looks yummy in my tummy today. Got me some liver waiting I need to cook before it's too late, and wanted to try a different recipe. There you go, thank you!!!
Oh my goodness this looks so so good. I live in Texas about 4 hours away from Dallas. It's been years since I made this meal. It's been years since I seen any liver being sold in our grocery stores. The stores just won't have liver any more. What a shame, because my 2 children love liver and onion gravy. After watching this video, I have a craving for it. It makes me sad that I can not find liver in our grocery stores. I'm German and my mother cooked this quite often. Now I have to do without. Curlinda I totally loved your presentation of how you made this meal. You have a lovely voice and I love the way you speak. Thank you for the recipe/tip in the Smothered Liver and Onions! Marvelous and Tasty.... Awesome over the rice and cornbread. Stay authentic and real with it✌🏾
I just love your accent and attitude, go girl. What a recipe, absolutely loved it. We eat liver in the UK but I have never tried method and it's a pure winner. Greetings and blessings from a now very well fed and content Englishman, subbed.
This is THE BEST Recipe. I’ve never made liver and onions. This was my first time. It was exactly what she said the way it looks. I didn’t even have al, the seasoning and my family still loved it. Thanks so much.
Just listening to you, certainly, put a smile on my face. You bring happiness into the kitchen as well as to cooking. As for the liver and onions...I need a bigger pan, I will dash to the store and get one right quick, then I am all set to go.
I don't have all the ingredients you gave, not even the liver, 😆 but I love liver and onions. I'm 82 but remember how my cousin i lived with made it. So next time I can get to the store, it's on Ms Curlinda. Bless you.
