@@uria2001 Most people felt the same way about Raiden, but once you over look that and sink yourself into the story, it's a masterpiece and WAY ahead of its time. It's scary how much was predicted back in 2001 and how it still holds true today. Most people didn't originally like it because the story was too complex and the character switch from Snake to Raiden but opinions changed over the years as people grew more mature and revisited the game and realised how this entry to the franchise was THE defining title that gave MGS it's feel. Whilst I love the first game, MGS2 and MGS3 was the defining style of MGS.
Only played through Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 while in high school. As soon as I hit college my time for gaming went to pretty much zero. But those were great memories. The excitement, the waiting, the anticipation! I only wish Kojima could have truly finished his games without compromise. Now that he has his own studio, his dreams can become a reality.

MGS3 will always be one of my all-time favorites. Such an incredible experience beginning to end. Excellent documentary! Loved the little tribute in the intro especially.
@@rickyyang6658I prefer Twin Snakes but like the OP. 3 is my fav. The characters, the story, the theme song. The game is just too Boss/masterpiece. Lol, no pun intended. That’s going to be the ultimate experience.
Metal gear solid was criticized for its simplicity?? WHAT? At that time it was one of the most complex games I can think of. There were so many little details, alternate ways to complete areas, 4th wall breaking puzzles, ect. I hope they got criticized for that criticism.
I’ve been a die hard MGS fan for 25 years and have seen so many docs and videos on the series but this is hands down the best! This was so well put together and I loved every minute of it. Thank you for this!!!

Hey Nick, loads of people getting caught up in sharing their own memories and experiences with the MGS games. But I would like to praise you for delivering this amazing video. With a running time of 168 minutes, you cover an entire video game narrative, mending facts together of a three-decade-long title and delivering a digestible, focused, and engaging story of the game we all know and love. As someone who wasn't able to follow the entirety of the releases and has some understandable gaps in knowledge regarding the Metal Gear lore, your video was a refreshing and reinvigorating jab of information, re-engaging my interest in the game and its elaborate adventure. Thank you for delivering such a remarkable video essay, which has interesting side stories, complete recognition of the creators and contributors, and a satisfying chronology to the epic saga that is Metal Gear. Fantastic Work! 10/10
"D-Horse is unquestionably the best way to move through the world" >Until you unlock Raiden's Rising outfit that is. I gotta say though, I'm forever thankful to Hideo Kojima for creating the Metal Gear universe. I liked MGS1 and 2 when I was younger, but MGS3 came out at a time where I was really struggling in life, and that game sort of helped me get on top of things. I don't know how he did it, but he created such a powerful character in The Boss, so much so that it even influenced my own outlook on life, even to this day.
Snake Eater, for me, is the best in the whole franchise. I've played it through many times and will probably give it another ago yet again off the back of this nostalgia trip. Great documentary by the way

This was a fantastic retrospective for the Metal Gear series - even as a life-long fan, I learned some things I wasn't aware of before. If anyone ever does a "complete" collection on any system, they should include this as bonus material!
It was these limitatiins that prompted them to think beyond graphics. Also modern games are objectivly better. I say this being old enough to see nes bundled w super mario bros being sold at K mart. We are currently experiencing the greatest games ever made
Metal Gear is in a league of its own tho... I remember being like 13 playing mgs2 with my friends just trying to figure out all the different random things that might happen.. ice cubes would melt, when you did the Raiden flip you could explode a bird into a poof of feathers, if you hide in a locker with a girly poster "things" will happen... there was so many random things it felt so next gen..
Every time I play a stealth game, I realize that none of them gathers the quality of the MGS series. You may think that nowadays games should be super advanced in that sense, but they did it better twenty years ago than now
I'm way more intrigued and invested in this video than I thought I was going to be. This storytelling should propel it to streaming sites. Hulu should pick this up.

Take a bow, Sir!! 👏🏾👏🏾 (Trust me, you earnt it!)
I grew up with the main MGS titles, they all hit quite hard story wise and became my basis for what a good RPG should be. Metal gear solid, Sons of Liberty, Snake eater, and The Phantom Pain all included hundreds of hours of enjoyment with a story that would build until a crescendo of a tear jerker ending. No other games have ever inspired that kind of an emotional response and depth of though that I have played, or caused me to consider things as hard.
I feel the same, but I always chalked it up to "right place, right time" as I was a teenager at the time and had a better imagination. 😅

It doesn't work like that he's always had his own studio this game belongs to Konami not kojima

Metal gear solid was criticized for its simplicity?? WHAT? At that time it was one of the most complex games I can think of. There were so many little details, alternate ways to complete areas, 4th wall breaking puzzles, ect. I hope they got criticized for that criticism.
