32:53 to be totally fair to Huey, he designed it specifically such that it could not be piloted, and it was the Third Child’s psionic powers that made it possible to do so. He’s incredulous because he’s basically designed a car without a steering wheel or pedals, not realizing Skull Face knows Huey is holding out, and is planning on outfitting the car with a self-driving system to circumvent this. And this is also why Huey is so convinced he did nothing wrong-even in the face of his personal nonsense, his killing his wife etc-because he thought he was smarter than Skull Face, or was able to conceal something from him. He never actually helped Skull Face in his mind, certainly not willingly or freely like he does Big Boss, because he only ever intended to deliver a broken/nonfunctional weapon to XOF-not realizing that helping Skull Face build Sahelanthropus AT ALL IN ANY CAPACITY is a violation, because he (plus Strangelove) was the only one who had ever actually _designed and built_ a Metal Gear unit before, so if Huey didn’t help him, Skull Face couldn’t go forward.

@@SpaceImmemorial tbh I don’t remember the specifics of how it couldn’t be piloted as it was, but yes that sounds familiar: something along the lines of wanting it to be specifically AI-driven IIRC, which is why he and Strangelove were on the team at all-plus their metal gear building experience, of course. And Skull Face let Huey believe they were gonna use the AI interface, until Skull Face could abscond with the Sahelanthropus and use the Third Child to make it work.
MGS4 hatred can literally go screw itself back into the cardboard box it came from. I was big MGS1 fan, and I had absolutely NO PROBLEM AT ALL sitting through ALL of MGS4. It was the culmination of a series that Kojima made it seem like he wasn't returning to, and prequels and non-canon projects aside, he hasn't returned to the present day so I appreciated a game willing to soak in the moment and take its time telling the story it wanted to tell.
Having Family that fought Nicaragua and have family in both Nicaragua and Costa Rica this series has a spot in my heart. Proxy wars are fucked up and having lost much to it I appreciate when this get mentioned.

0:25 bro I think you forgot snake. He was pretty important character as much as snake snake and snake (I discpise snake as popular character, he is just shadow of snake). He also was an important character for one of the charecters.
I came here as I promised I would. Just like with Resident Evil I’m a series veteran here. Played all but the original two games as they released. Venture Brothers refs are a treat of course but your handling of this was beautifully paced and put together and I shed a few tears at the end. Thank you for this, and for all the effort you put in on your videos like this. You are not appreciated anything like as much as you should be.
Ill be honest as someone who never played metal gear, i quickly lost track of all the snakes. Naked, venom, liquid, solid, solidus, thats a lot to rememer ok😂 i watched the whole video tho. Very nice❤
Naked Snake is Big Boss-the guy who parachutes into Russia to retrieve Sokolov in Operation: Snake Eater, who starts a PMC called Outer Heaven with Kazuhira Miller (the guy Liquid pretended to be!) in pursuit of his dream of a world free of wars, and who dies of old age on his mentor The Boss’s grave, sharing a cigarette with Solid Snake, his son. The guy who becomes a legendary, _borderline mythical_ soldier, known the world round as THE Big Boss. Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and Solidus Snake all are involuntary and in-secret genetic clones of Big Boss, I.e. Naked Snake (he doesn’t go by that after Operation: Snake Eater iirc, so I’ll call him Big Boss from now on). See, Major Zero understood that Big Boss may not agree with his motives or goals forever, so Zero secretly undertook genetic cloning experiments (a la Dolly the Sheep, cutting edge stuff at the time) to create someone to inherit Big Boss’s legacy and role in their plans. These experiments were called the _Les Enfant Terribles_ project, and drastically increased Big Boss’s timetable to get out from under Major Zero’s operations and create his Outer Heaven. Solid Snake is the guy who looks just like Naked Snake (young Big Boss), who intervened at Shadow Moses Island, and who everyone calls Snake. He’s the one voiced by David Hayter, and who is referred to as “Snake” post-Snake Eater. You may recognize him from such hit games as the Super Smash Bros. Series; he’s largely the face of the Metal Gear series, because the OG Metal Gear Solid stars him, as does 4, the last game in the Solid series chronologically. Liquid Snake is the guy with long blond hair who leads the FOXHOUND unit during the Shadow Moses Island incident; he’s in charge of Psycho Mantis, Grey Fox, etc., and directly opposes Solid Snake’s efforts to rescue the two men who know halves of the Nuclear arming codes from the island/their torture at FOXHOUND’s hands, as well as vying for control of Big Boss’s remains (which are on-site at Shadow Moses) in the hopes he can use them to cure genetic ailments in his Genome Soldiers. Liquid and Solid Snake are actually twins; one of them got Big Boss’s dominant genes, and one got his recessive genes. Solidus Snake is also an _Enfant Terrible_ clone of Big Boss, but unlike Solid and Liquid he was given Big Boss’s exact genetic makeup, and came to resemble him later in life. Solidus Snake is the 43rd president of the United States-you can kind of remember who he is because “Solidus” is a physics term, it’s the name of the line on a graph of an object’s composition and temperature where above that line, that object is a solid, and below it it is a liquid. So, it’s like he’s a balanced version of Solid and Liquid Snake; where they are either dominant or recessive completely, Solidus is the “perfect” combination. Raiden (who you don’t mention but who deserves a mention when talking about this) is, in a sense, also a clone of Big Boss, but in a much more roundabout/subtle/metaphysical way. Raiden was trained from his youth to be a killing machine, and later subjected to Virtual Reality training _of the Shadow Moses Island incident,_ among other operations undertaken by Solid Snake and Big Boss. In this sense, he is a _memetic_ clone of Big Boss/Solid Snake; the very ideas and experiences of these men have been inculcated into Raiden-and, ooh, hey, any commentary on Raiden could feasibly apply _to the Player as well,_ who like Raiden does not experience the pain and difficulty of the wetwork we put Solid Snake and Big Boss through, yet feels accomplished for _virtually_ accomplishing what these men _REALLY_ did. And Venom Snake (BIG MGSV SPOILERS) is even one step further removed from this idea; Venom Snake is _just some guy_, a fellow and trusted comrade of Big Boss and a high-level operative at Outer Heaven, I.e. Big Boss’s PMC outfit. He’s the one voiced by Kiefer Sutherland (if we ignore Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, for simplicity sake, and take Big Boss’s voice in that game as a red herring). When Outer Heaven was annihilated by XOF in a (successful) attempt by Major Zero to knock down the nuclear-armed Outer Heaven and an (unsuccessful) attempt to assassinate Big Boss, Big Boss went into deep hiding, allowing (maybe ordering? maybe acquiescing?) Shalashaska-Ocelot-to _KGB brainwash someone_ (yes really, it makes more sense in context) who has been with Outer Heaven since the start and who has seen how Big Boss does things for years, with the goal of brainwashing him to literally think HE is HIMSELF Big Boss, so as to let someone else take over public-facing (I.e. more exposed) operations as the face of Mother Base (with Ocelot and Miller as a vanguard for the real Big Boss’s vision). When Skull Face discovers Big Boss is alive and recovering in a hospital in Cyprus, he sends a task force to take Big Boss out, literally to kill EVERYONE in the hospital, and Big Boss-disguised as another hospital patient, “Ishmael”-helps his duplicate escape before vanishing into the night, without a trace. Venom Snake is like… a *cognitive* clone of Big Boss, in a sense; where Raiden was inculcated with Snake’s ability and training through VR, Venom Snake was already of substantial ability and training just from being with Big Boss for so long, and was instead made to _think_ like Big Boss, and prioritize what Big Boss would prioritize for his dream. He was given plastic surgery and relentless “briefing” by Ocelot to make him think he was the real Big Boss, and was told (truthfully) he had atrophied, lost a hand, and had also received massive head trauma resulting in amnesia and hallucinations, necessitating rehab which doubled as covert training in the art of Being Big Boss. And he was the “double” that Solid Snake takes down in “Metal Gear (gameboy)”,, incidentally. The series in general has a lot of themes regarding what it means to pass something on to the next generation, and what makes someone who they are, their circumstance vs their genetic makeup, practical knowledge/experience vs academic/VR experience, etc. That’s probably a big reason they’re so hard to tell apart, aside from the obvious similarities and complexities between characters; because they’re all defined by how they uniquely differ from each other and from Big Boss/Solid Snake (read: the player character), as well as by how they uniquely came by these differences, which is deep-lore-pulp-sci-fi territory.
I remember the first time I played the games with all the snakes I thought it was one guy who was like 200 years old. Big boss was my entry to the series
Man i really like the part where paz exploded after jumping out of the helo, very good editing work. I swear it must be no more than one frame before the explosion. Phenomenal
This is hands down the best explanation for the entire series I've ever seen, and you managed to keep it under 5 hours somehow!? Absolutely amazing work 👏 You're Pretty good! 👉👉
It's crazy how this doesn't have more views, This is a great review of the entire MGS lore and in an entertaining way. I've played the entire series but it's been years since I thought about it so this brought back a lot of memories. It really is one of the greatest series of games of all time.
A nitpick: honeybee is not the first Phantom Pain mission. Every main mission that isn’t a repeat has some sort of story relevance and new information that is gleaned by doing optional objectives, spying on soldiers, and paying careful attention to briefings and post mission debriefings. But I get that would make the video like a million hours long.
for a long time fan this is an excellent and digestible way to understand the lore of mgs. for people who want to get into the series please by all means do it, it's seriously one of the greatest game series of all time, and a lot is still left out in the video that lets you enjoy the games still.
57:06 - thanks for including the 'obligatory' line, with this scene...some days, i can barely even hear the word "Fortune" without some part of my brain reflexively responding with "A Dud?!" to it...
I love how, not only does the middle of MGS4 take place on Shadow Moses Island as a cool nostalgic last hurrah to the series legacy, but I love how some of the stuff that happens parallels MGS1. Snake about to be crushed and Raiden coming in to save him like Gray Fox did (twice in the case of MGS4), Otacon losing someone he values. It’s just cool that they did those callbacks
Man, you really did this well. After watching the whole video I immediatly went to your channel to see if there's more to watch like this one and yes! Resident Evil, also very, very well done! Thanks for making these!😊

I really can't think of many forms of media that I've ever experienced that blend together absolute heart-wrenching moments along with campy over-the-top goofiness the way MGS does.
3:35 you can also take out "the end" earlier in the game while hes sitting in a wheelchair, but you have to back track for the sniper rifle. But after he dies the chair blows up and no matter where you are a wheel lands on your face after flying through the air.
I always get emotional with MGS4 with what snake had to go through and living with a pre built in life span. Plus the entire back ground of events leading up to it.
I get a kick out of that it's a Metal Gear lore for beginners but it's an hour and a half video. Surprised it wasn't an hour longer. Can't wait for the 10 part advanced lore guide series.
This was a very well done video! I played all the Metal Gear Solid games (not Metal Gear 1 and 2) several times and it was hard to follow so I appreciate your synopsis. This definitely filled in some blanks I had for the story
Ive never played MGS or any of the spinoffs, but my GOD this story is awesome. Fantastic work, i think ill try and get my hands on some of these games now
did i totally lose track of the plot halfway through? yes. did i also almost cry at the end because of soldiers who were haunted by the horrors of war finally finding peace? NO SHUT UP
Bro this was the best breakdown I've seen of any game ever. And for it to be about metal gear is crazy bro! I've played every single metal gear game and beaten them at least twice and I still didn't fully grasp the timeline. But the way you set them up...I'm even more blown away by hideo Kojima.......it's unreal how the NES metal gears are the middle grounds.....how the hell did they do that from the 80's until the 2000's
Thank you for providing a safe place where I don't get bullied for getting into the minutiae of like 80 characters named some variant of 'snake' or 'boss'. I love the MGS series so much but it's really almost impossible to discuss with anyone who's not acquainted with it.

Phenomenal video. Found this just after I started playing the master collection.. all I gotta say is man what a fkn series. Privileged to have been here from the start of it.
Watching this while listening to "The Best Is Yet To Come" on repeat. This song, along with the series culminates the history of a franchise that has defined a genre in gaming & will forever be in the hearts of the generations that have lived through this era. Big Boss Tier Level storytelling. "You're pretty good."
As long as the runtime of cut-scenes were in the MG games, they can't hold a torch to the Xenosaga series. The first one started you off with a 30 minute cut-scene and the sequel had around 8 hours of cut-scenes in total. Man is it nice to have that story-line explained in such a concise way.
Been playing the games for almost 20 years. Sons of Liberty on PS2 was a masterpiece that did something only a few games ever have that was only possible during that time. For years I have been watching UA-cam videos clipping the stories together. Most are overly intricate and diluted to the point you don’t fully understand the story from the video. @ChipmunkuChan you have created the clearest and most concise video that covers The story and timeline of Metal Gear. Best video out there on the game series so far!
This is probably the best summary of the whole story iv seen it sums up everything perfectly. Seeing as mgs is one of the most confusing games to grasp the whole over arching story this makes it easy to understand. Bravo
Basically Explained: Big Boss, the protagonist of the series, is trying to fight main antagonist, Zero. Big Boss loses when he gets cloned, which becomes Snake. Big Boss goes into hiding and has a decoy cover him throughout the entire series(sheesh). Snake manages to defeat Zero + Comrades, and Big Boss dies. The End

You could’ve just gotten a fan from the entertainment quality your videos provide, but you earned a fanatic with the frequency of Venture Bros references.
I’ve listened to this entire video like six times now, all while working, and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon; thank you for this video, it was well worth it by my count, and I hope this comment brings a smile to your face
It absolutely did. Thank you so much for this.
That David Lynch Weather Report joke got you a new subscriber
Oh let's GOOOOOOOOOO
0:25 bro I think you forgot snake. He was pretty important character as much as snake snake and snake (I discpise snake as popular character, he is just shadow of snake). He also was an important character for one of the charecters.
This is perfect because I'll be starting my first playthrough of a game I know so much about but never played 😂
My strongest salute to you soldier LMAO
I'm hopin you report back - I'm excited to hear what you think of the games.
Report back, so,für.
I love mgs4 and i think the microwave hall scene is still one of if not the best cutscenes in gaming
Agreed. It's in the top 3, at the very least.
I madly respect you for all of the Venture Bros references, that series deserves way more love than it gets.
Ill be honest as someone who never played metal gear, i quickly lost track of all the snakes. Naked, venom, liquid, solid, solidus, thats a lot to rememer ok😂 i watched the whole video tho. Very nice❤
Kween you're a godsend and a trooper for giving it a shot. I'm sorry I couldn't make it click - but I'm honored you tried it for my sake.

@@andyghkfilm2287 incredible write-up and summary. You’re a champ.
I’m CRYING 😭
That ending always gets me so so so good. MGS4. Amazing wrap up for Solid Snake’s story
Man i really like the part where paz exploded after jumping out of the helo, very good editing work. I swear it must be no more than one frame before the explosion. Phenomenal
This is hands down the best explanation for the entire series I've ever seen, and you managed to keep it under 5 hours somehow!? Absolutely amazing work 👏
You're Pretty good! 👉👉
It's crazy how this doesn't have more views, This is a great review of the entire MGS lore and in an entertaining way. I've played the entire series but it's been years since I thought about it so this brought back a lot of memories. It really is one of the greatest series of games of all time.
This is the first video I've seen that's actually explained the time-line in a way I can understand. Thank you good sir.
It's very appropriate that a "lore for beginners" video for Metal Gear is almost an hour and a half
the simple plot of metal gear
And he skipped over a lot too.
Alright, you hooked me with that Venture Bro's sound clip. Take my sub, you've earned it.
Thanks for making these!😊
Had to watch this video like 5 times to understand it fully and now I feel like we should have a degree in metal gear haha
This is my first time watching this video and even learning about the lore of MGS and honestly... wow. There were even a lot of times i kinda cried and I am not ashamed to say that. Like damn dude, thanks for making this type of video. It is not boring as those other ones beceause we can even hear your emotions when you are telling us the story. Thanks man
I been waiting for this video for 76 years, Thank you for coming.
Thank you for reminding people about the monster hunter colab, nostalgia!
you can really tell how much effort went into creating this video, good job man!! you deserve so much more attention for this:)
God damn, what a frickin masterpiece of an Story summery. Thank you so much for taking us down this memory lane. ❤
You are such a amazing creator your re lore vid helped me catch up with the lore when I first got into it and now you release a Mgs when I also started to get into metal gear and your vids are so clean and entertaining Fr hope you keep doing lore vids
This means the world to me, thank you for saying this.
That ending was so sweet, good job dude 😭😭
I really can't think of many forms of media that I've ever experienced that blend together absolute heart-wrenching moments along with campy over-the-top goofiness the way MGS does.
This was a beautiful retelling of the series, thank you. I'm lightning the rain transformed- coldest intro.
excellent video, man.. just excellent. The MGS saga is truly like no other.
Very well put together. Keep it bro.
Plus the entire back ground of events leading up to it.
the first 25 minutes were a good primer for my MGSV playthrough. Thank you!
Glad to hear it!
I get a kick out of that it's a Metal Gear lore for beginners but it's an hour and a half video. Surprised it wasn't an hour longer. Can't wait for the 10 part advanced lore guide series.
can't wait to spend a quarter of my life explaining why big boss believes in santa claus
Fabulous video, great work, and I always like to see David Lynch in unexpected places.
This was a very well done video! I played all the Metal Gear Solid games (not Metal Gear 1 and 2) several times and it was hard to follow so I appreciate your synopsis. This definitely filled in some blanks I had for the story
Amazing upload. I feel like I’ll have to watch it a few times to really get the full story down! Bravo
Oh boi! Another Hour+ MGS Lore Vid to add to my Retrospective Playlist! _Number 13 baby!_
Ive never played MGS or any of the spinoffs, but my GOD this story is awesome. Fantastic work, i think ill try and get my hands on some of these games now
"So what are we? Some kind of Big Boss?" Chills
big boss's final salute still makes me tear up, dont even need all the context of the games, that salute is powerful
Honestly the coolest thing to learn was that Big Shell was modeled out using lego first by Kojima, thats just such a fun detail
Kojima did the same thing with a lot of Shadow Moses. It was how he helped develop the camera techniques used in metal gear 1.
I know nothing of metal gear going into this but that the beginners guide is 1,5 hours makes me feel like I’m going into a rabbit hole
enjoy the ride Alvar, it's a long way down (:
I didn't realise it was Irish Gaelic. I thought it was Japanese opera ... learn something new every time i look into this series, nice one, Boss 🫡
Otacon: loses a third love
Snake: pull yourself together.
Hey man, thanks for all the hard work. Good stuff.
My pleasure, Zach!! Thanks for watching.
I grew up playing Metal Gear. One of my favorite game series. Nice work on the video, really took me back.
Took me a week and half to finally finish it, and I finally get MGS' lore now (I hope)
OH LETS GOOOOOOO YOURE A GENIUS NOW!!
Best video game series ever made.
This was brilliant. Great work
I felt a numerous amount of emotions rush through me as I watched this
for making this video, we salute you. 🙏🏼
Must say, the way you presented this is top notch. Bravo mate.
peak video thank u for cathcing me up to speed
1:09:30 Snake and Otacon are THE relationship goals
did i totally lose track of the plot halfway through? yes. did i also almost cry at the end because of soldiers who were haunted by the horrors of war finally finding peace? NO SHUT UP
Bro this was the best breakdown I've seen of any game ever.
It is such an intricate series! It's definitely such a wall to climb to understand even a small level - so I wanted to quash any elitism going in
Its a really fun series and I'm glad we can discuss it on any level together!!
@@ChipmunkuChan and I love that for you, and all of us. It really is such a wildly lore- bound series and I appreciate you giving it so much careful detail 💯❤
Phenomenal video. Found this just after I started playing the master collection.. all I gotta say is man what a fkn series. Privileged to have been here from the start of it.
Just clued in that SSSniperWolf even stole her name. That's hilarious.
LOL
Same
Watching this while listening to "The Best Is Yet To Come" on repeat.
That's really kind to say! Thanks so much for this, really!
This is probably the best summary of the whole story iv seen it sums up everything perfectly. Seeing as mgs is one of the most confusing games to grasp the whole over arching story this makes it easy to understand. Bravo
Love your explained series, I hope there are more in the future!
Basically Explained:
Big Boss, the protagonist of the series, is trying to fight main antagonist, Zero. Big Boss loses when he gets cloned, which becomes Snake. Big Boss goes into hiding and has a decoy cover him throughout the entire series(sheesh). Snake manages to defeat Zero + Comrades, and Big Boss dies.
The End
More simply explained: Two men couldn't listen to a woman even if it killed them
@@TheEnemyOfDawn 😭
52:31 😂 I watched GreyFox get crushed too many times, the sad trumpet and crunching was too funny.
I’d love if you would do, the fall out series idk how exactly you could go about it however I find it an interesting series and it’s easy to follow with what you’re saying, love the explaining videos keep it up!
Great job man! Revolver Ocelot is also my favorite character.
