  • I use an automatic buttonhole foot to sew a buttonhole in a piece of fabric, then I switch to the button presser foot and attach the button. I use 4 different types of button that vary in size. Using the Brother SQ9185 sewing machine makes this process very easy and fun.

    Thank you for the clear tutorial! I have a tip to pass along from another sewing channel (Debbie Shore): use the buttonhole foot on the setting for the particular buttonhole you want to make a sample buttonhole on a scrap piece of fabric. Cut it out and use it to decide where you want to sew the buttonholes on your fabric, then mark each location with the tool of your choice (chalk, erasable pen, pencil, or soap). A warning about using Frixxon pens as temporary fabric markers (they’re the pens that disappear with heat from friction, irons, dryers, etc); know that *the ink returns when whatever you marked gets chilled enough.* I love the pens for writing but I wouldn’t use them on anything I needed the ink to be permanent OR erase permanently.

    Your instructions and camera work were excellent. I looked up the reviews and many were terrible. I would be hesitant to buy this machine. Great video.

    This video was very easy to understand. Unfortunately, I have a button with a loop? on the back that I need to attach. If anybody can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated...it came off my favorite jacket.

    It would have been nice to see how this was done neatly and cleanly. I'd like to know how to do the button holes, etc. well. The button holes in this video looked a mess....

    I really enjoy your tutorials! They are really well done. I recently purchased a Brother SQ9285. I have NEVER used a sewing machine in my life but I am anxious to get started thanks to your tutorials. I have a question though . . . What is the bobbin used for?

    • @oxmanagain
      @oxmanagain  4 роки тому

      Well thank you, I appreciate your comment. The bobbin is used to get the thread on the underside of the fabric. You need thread on both sides to lock the stitch in and that's what the bobbin is for. If you have any questions feel free to ask as many as you would like.

    Another great video! It's fun as well as knowledgeable to watch your videos. I have a question: you showed in another video how to thread the thread through the machine. When I use the thread holder that's horizontal, my thread always snaps where it gets caught in the slot where the thread goes when not in use on either end of the spool. Could the vertical thread holder be used for everyday use and not just when two spools of thread are needed? Would that confuse the machine?

    • @oxmanagain
      @oxmanagain  6 років тому

      Yes, I had the same problem and now I just use the vertical thread holder like you suggested. It works perfectly. I really appreciate all your support.

    do we ever let machine sew botton on when set to automatic sewing instead of manually turning thehandle?

    • @oxmanagain
      @oxmanagain  4 роки тому

      I prefer to do it slowly to make sure the needle doesn't hit the button.

    I've made a wool coat and the fabric is very thick and loose woven. When trying to make my button hole the fabric doesn't move . What is the problem??

    • @oxmanagain
      @oxmanagain  6 років тому

      Cassandra Keller Your material might be too loose. I would try to adjust the tension and see if that helps.

    WOW...So when did sewing machines get automated ?

    • @oxmanagain
      @oxmanagain  6 років тому

      I think I've had that particular sewing machine for about 4 years now. I believe sewing machines became computerized within the last 10 years or so. If you get a computerized sewing machine it will change the game on you. Sewing is so much easier and actually have more fun doing it now. Thanks again for watching.

      @@oxmanagain LOL great tutorial. My wife and I were thinking in the back of our mind I wonder why he is using his brother's machine. The video displaying in the background was the next video after a Singer video. I felt like Duh when I looked up and saw a Brother Machine on the screen. I didn't know the two brands were so similar in accessories and operation. Thanks for the info.
