Hello, great how to! I noticed at least one mention of someone saying Not to use a straight stitch foot, but a zigzag foot for the twin needle, so as a professional I wanted to comment for clarification of what I am sure they meant. The foot that is the "default" foot and the one that is being used in the video is technically called a Zigzag foot. Because it's the foot that almost everyone uses for all stitching, many people call it a straight stitch foot. A true straight stitch foot is pretty much a solid plate with one small hole in the center, You can Only do a center aligned straight stitch with it or your needle will hit the foot and break. No one really uses it...
Andrew! This is spot on! I really appreciate your feedback. As I've mentioned in my my previous videos, I'm not a professional seamstress. I just share the tips and methods that have worked for me, in hopes that I can bring clarity to others who are just starting out and/or are confused. So, a professional's feedback is definitely welcomed and appreciated here. Thanks for stopping by, Andrew. xoxo, Shania
You're welcome, Shania! I'm so happy that you're excited to share (and very effectively, too!) what you've learned through your experiences and even more excited to know that there will be SO many more "eureka" moments to come for every project that you do!. I have been sewing for two decades now and Still regularly discover new tricks to make creating garments more quickly and effectively, lol.
You're wonderful, Andrew! I think you're right about discovering more "eureka!" moments, though it's unfortunate that sometimes there's a lot of back tracking before reaching those light bulb moments. Anyhow, you live and you learn through trial and error. Thanks again for stopping by, and gracing us with your knowledge. xoxo, Shania
I also wanted to mention that I’ve been really successfull with a straight stitch when using a walking foot. So it’s not really impossible but you just need the right kind of setup
Shania: I’m an acclaimed teacher with many years of experience. I’m also new at sewing. I have watched many instructional videos to assist me in learning how to sew. Your videos are the clearest and best I’ve watched. You’re an excellent teacher. I plan on watching all your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with neophytes like me.
Wow. Really. Really helpful. Been at this for hours. Trying to impress an elderly stepmom. 🤭🤭🤭. On a Singer still yet older model I used same thread tension and ... what u said 🤭. Dnt forgot the proper term. Haha. It worked great. But even I used the zigzag stitches came out straight. 🤯☺. But I'm just glad I did it. Allahumdulillah. Im a once in a blue moon sewer I'm suppose to sew more. Have a few unfinished projects. But after this I'm kinda renewed in faith that I can do this haha. 🤗🤗🤗. Thank u. Very helpful. And TO ALL U SCROLLING THE COMMENTS. IT WORKS. HER METHOD WORKS.
My 15yo granddaughter just brought me a dress to hem and it's stretchy material....as soon as I pinned it to length I grabbed my computer and searched youtube! thank goodness you were here. You just taught an old dog some new tricks. Really good tutorial but the music could have been turned down a bit as it did drown out your voice at times and maybe touch up the nails a bit, but you are a good teacher! Thanks for taking the time and giving some options. I didn't know about twin needles. Can't wait till tomorrow so I can go buy that little gem.
Hi Johnie! Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for the gentle and sincere feedback. I hope your granddaughter's dress comes out wonderfully! xoxo, Shania
Finally someone showing how to use a twin needle! And the magic tape. This is the best video for stretch fabric and I've been watching them forever! Thank you.
Thanks eburcua! I appreciate your supportive feedback, and I hope that you'll share this video with anyone you think these tips could serve. xoxo, Shania
I can’t wait to watch the other videos! I have a friend who is a very experienced sewer and she has magic tape and could not remember what it was for! 😆
Your video is wonderful, and omg just the advice I needed....but I do have to say, as a hearing impaired person, respectfully, the background music did make it it very hard to understand your voice.
Your explanations and demonstrations are the best I have seen. Your voice has a such pleasant quality. Christine’s comment regarding the background music is similar to mine. The music was louder than your voice and quite repetitive, making it difficult for someone with ADHD to focus. I understand if you do not wish to change how you use music with your presentation. I’ll WILL still watch (without sound) because your demonstrations are awesome. Please do not take this as a criticism; you are amazing!
Thank you for using an affordable home sewing machine for this tutorial! It showed me that I can do it without an expensive machine. Good information as well ; D
Hey there! Yes, you're right, it's definitely doable even on a basic inexpensive sewing machine. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you'll check out some of my diy tutorials. xoxo, Shania
I just found your channel. I enjoyed your tips on sewing stretchy fabric, (but I am one of those distracted by the music). I do want to compliment you on the fact that you answer those who comment. I love that. Too few UA-camrs do that.
This was really helpful. You were the only one who explained what settings to use for the machine. I found your video the best. It was helpful. I didn't even practice.
This is exact the type of video I have been looking for... Specifics on tension and length on a singer machine... Thank u soo much!!!!! I can finish my project with ease..
Hey Blacc Beauty!!!!! I'm so happy that you found my video helpful :) Is there anything else that you need help with, or a specific tutorial that you'd like me to do a video on?
You're terrific! Thanks, I've had my machine for several years and never used the twin needles. You've taken the mystery out of it, and I'm really loving the wash away wonder tape! You're easy to follow, and calm - which is important for me! Thanks again, I look forward to more videos from you.
This is such genuine feedback, I appreciate it and I appreciate you stopping by to watch my video. I'm happy that I could "solve" that twin needle mystery. Is there anything in particular that you'd like me to post a video about? I'm happy to help if I can. xoxo, Shania
Great tutorial! The closeups on the needle threading were so clear and your directions so clear as well. This was a great job and I am sure it will inspire others!
I'm an old lady whose been sewing since 1969 love your videos. Always interesting. Sometimes we get into a rut and don't keep an eye out on new things. Thanks
Hey there! I'm so happy that you found this video helpful. The twin needles are a true gem! Is there any other sewing problem that you'd like me to make a video on? xoxo, Shania
Thank you SO much for SIMPLY explaining how to sew stretchy fabric. I actually feel like i could figure it out now. Mad props 👏 definitely gonna try that twin needle setup
Thank you so much. I really needed this review with all its clear and detailed steps. You are an excellent teacher. Your voice is also so clear and pleasant to listen to. God Gless you.
You are a blessing! This is exactly what I needed to hem my knit pants. My serger disappeared in a move and I cannot afford a new one. Do consider omitting the music because I want to concentrate on what you are saying and your beautiful voice. Thank you again for your help!
I love your video! I'm just a beginner sewer and you taught me 3 things I did not know. lol my stitching was all puckered up but not no more! hehe Thank you! And I must say how many video's that I wont watch because of all the "non sense babbling" and the "now your gonna's..." BUT YOU! are straight to the point, calm and have a great close up video for teaching (you don't need any back ground music with your great voice). Thanks a million! Keep on teaching. Pleeeeease lol
This has to be one of the best comments that I've received, ever!!! Thank YOU soooo sooo much. Is there anything other sewing problem that you have that I can help you with , or maybe something (top, skirt, dress, etc) that you would like me to show you how to make? Thanks for stopping by! xoxo, Shania
@@rj2boo87 Hey there! If you have a blind hem foot you can follow this tutorial ua-cam.com/video/hIitimk594A/v-deo.html. Otherwise, if you don't have a fancy blind hem foot, you can follow this tutorial to learn how to do blind hem with a regular foot and just a blind hem stitch (ua-cam.com/video/WvXzRvG1r7o/v-deo.html). Feel free to skip ahead to 2:03 of this video, that's when she starts to get into the details of how to do it. I hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else. xoxo, Shania
Love it! Decades of sewing and never ever used the double needle or 4-way stretch fabric. Feeling excited about sewing the arm holes and hem using your beautifully shown techniques, Shania!
I have sewed hems on my moms projects, but I want to tailor my own clothes. This is the first tutorial I am watching, and I am SO excited to have found you!!! Thank you thank you! I’ll buy a serger later if I need one, I just want my clothes to fit me and replace pieces I love
Thank you for the clear and concise instructions AND for using proper lighting in your video. It was like an in person, one on one tutorial. Thank you!!!
This is brilliant! Thank you so much! I'm making a costume and have been in panic mode trying to deal with stretchy fabric, but this tutorial was super clear and super helpful, and I can already see what I was doing wrong! THANK YOU ANGEL!!!!
Thanks Shania! I'm doing a polesque (pole dance + Burlesque) act next week: EEEK!!!! I'm making a sort-of-trying-to-be-sexy-santa costume haha ;) out of stretch velvet... but I'm really not an experienced seamstress, and this stretchy fabric has been giving me headaches! I've been working on the top this morning, and thanks to your advice it's starting to come together! Fingers crossed...
Ohhhh woowww, that santa costume sounds like it's going to be hella cute! I recommend practicing on some scraps of fabric before working on your costume. Since I'm not a pro either I make sure that I do this. Anyhow, I wish you the best on your costume and on your performance !!!! Let me know if you need help with anything else. xoxo, Shania
Thank you for being my teacher today! Taking your recommendations to the store to purchase twin needles and look for the sticky tape. Even "if" I don't use all today, I'll have the new tips and options for another sew ...thanks again for todays sewing lessons! Have a great day!
Have had that tape in my stash forever. Now I know what to do with it. LOL Enjoyed your video. You are a very good communicator and thanks for the tips.
Yes Denise! Now is the time to whip that bad girl out and put her to use. Anyhow, I'm' so happy that you stopped by and found my video helpful. I hope you'll stick around and check out some of my other videos. xoxo, Shania
Omg thank you so much!! I’ve been wondering how to fix this forever! This is a fantastic video, you show everything so clearly, you explain it succinctly and easily, and you have a nice voice :) perfect and so helpful! Thank you for posting ! I’m going to try getting that tape! And the twin needle!
Awwwhhh kaylayt! You're the sweetest, thank you much for such thorough and supportive feedback. I really appreciate it, and I hope that you will stick around to watch more of my videos. Have you subscribed to my channel?! xoxo, Shania
Thank you. You explained and answered all my questions. All in one video save me time watching different videos. I am a beginner and your tips are really helpful.
Hey Elizabeth! I'm so happy that you were able to clearly understand the instructions. What's another sewing problem that I can help you with? xoxo, Shania
I would use the wonder tape or some other wash-away stabilizer between the hem and garment underside when using the twin needle to lessen the tunneling effect, especially on the knit fabric that was chosen for this demo.
I liked your video, thank you for the tips but the music was distracting. In future, you could put more neutral and calm music or no music at all so that people can focus more on the sewing and your voice. Thank you so much! Keep posting!
Hey Manjit! Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for your feedback regarding the music. Making content, for me, is all about trial and error and seeing what does and doesn't work. So, I will definitely be more conscious of the music in my upcoming videos. In the meantime, you should check out my other videos, and let me know if there's something in particular that you'd like me to make a video about. xoxo, Shania
Nov. 13/18 - Hi Shania, you're a lovely lady with a good and soft voice. I enjoyed your tips, again as I read below music was a bit loud. Thanks so much for the time and your kindness. God bless.
Hi Shania. Muchísimas gracias!! It's lockdown here, I wanted to shorten my new t-hirts which I would normally take to an alterations store because I have never had success in seeing stretchy fabric .. until I found your tutorial! Your instructions are so clear and specific, I love that you not only gave the tension and stitch width measurements but also that your video clearly showed where those dials are located on your sewing machine, which is very similar to mine. You are a terrific teacher with a beautiful speaking voice for online tutorials. You explained and showed all the steps in such a clear calm way that it gave me the confidence to attempt to hem those t-shirts myself. I used your zig-zag stitch method. Success! No wavy hem! Next I'm going to attempt the twin needle method on one of my finer weight tops.
Hey, I loved your tutorial! Suggestion for your future clips would be to lower the music... it was really competing with your wisdom. Loved the tunes, just need to really background it a bit. Chow!
i have always ended up with wavy hems on t-shirts but had the brillliant idea to watch youtube for my latest hem and i'm so happy I did! I used my double needle for the FIRST TIME EVER and the hem is great. Thank you so much for sharing your tips and tricks. I really, really appreciate you!!
I was looking for ways to sew someones blouse. She wanted to add Stretchy lace to the hem of her blouse which was also Spandex/polyester. I sewed it regular and it bunched up, looked awful. So I did a search on good ole You Tube and other videos were saying stretch it or you needed special attachments. That was a no no especially on Easter night. I finally found this one and I loved how you told me which settings on my sewing machine to use and exactly what to do. It turned out perfectly and she was so excited. You see I have an antique sewing machine from just when they turned it into electric so I was used to just the straight stitches. Then my son bought me a brand new Singer right when everyone was just starting to make masks. With all these fancy settings etc I was lost so I kept just to the straight stitches. Thank you so much!
I was about to comment the same thing :) just your relaxing voice and maybe some quieter gentler music would be great. Thanks for the help with this though!!
@@audreyh6628 Hey Audrey! Yeah, some people didn't have an issue with the sound at all, it IS had to please everyone (thanks for even considering that). xoxo, Shania
I love your video. I've been sewing for years and years, but have avoided stretchy fabrics. My perfectionist tendencies have stopped me trying. You have encouraged me to give it ago! Many thanks.
Hey there!!!! Thank you so much for stopping by, I'm happy that I could help. It's funny because I'm the opposite: I'm very intimidated by non-stretch cotton fabrics because you have to be so accurate with them, whereas with knits it will stretch more if you need it to. Anyhow, what do think my next video should be about? I really want to make a video that people would be interested in watching, so let me know what you would want to watch. xoxo, Shania
I've only watched on of your videos so far. I don't now if you have covered this. How about inserting a zip into stretch fabric? Or joining two pieces where the direction of stretch are perpendicular?
Thank you. 🥰I needed to know about the length, tension, stitch selection, & width. That really helped. I especially love how you showed me how to attach the double needle. Noone else in the other videos showed me how to do that. They just cut & sew & I don't understand or can visualize how they got the double stitches done to the sides of the stretchy shirts. Thank God I found you. Very very helpful❤👍
Actually yes... when I make pants or shorts, my crotch is baggy and my behind is tight, ( I have small hips but a big butt), how can I fix this?? Thank u
hmmm okay, first some questions: when you make pants/shorts are you making them from scratch (or are you tracing a from already made pants/shorts? does problem occur when you're working with stretchy fabric or non-stretch fabric?
If you are tracing regular non-stretchy denim jeans onto stretchy fabric, you'll have make the pattern smaller to compensate for the stretch. If you're trying to make stretchy pants/shorts, your best bet would be to trace a pair of leggings. I hope that helps. :)
Hi Tina, I'm sorry to hear that you missed the major points in this video (use a zig zag stitch, use stay tape, or use a twin needle, and iron your hem flat). I will try to be more attentive the next time I'm editing my video.
This was so helpful and easy to understand, I had no idea you could make it look professional using a twin needle and not with a fancy machine! I thought I would just be stuck with zigzags that look out of place. Thank you so much!
Hi Shania, 3 years after the making, your video helped me immensely, thanks so much! And I didn't even notice there was music, too busy listening to your sewing wisdom. 🤗
Thank youuuu! I think you're like the only person who likes the music. I think need to keep the music but I need to pay more attention to how loud it is. Thanks for stopping by Falna
I don't like listening to any music when someone is talking either. It diverts my attention. If you watch professional how-to videos they don't have music playing WHILE they are talking, only during moments without speech.
Thank you for the tutorial. I wanted to add that you don't use the pin tuck foot to make double hemming....this can confuse people. And you didn't mention the most important thing for sewing with stretchy fabric......a ball point needle!!!! Without that you go nowhere!!
@@serdnaasonipse1511 Yes! Exactly!! Jersey, for example, a stretchy fabric, is a type of knit that needs a ball pointed needle. Cotton, on the other side, is a type of woven that doesn't usually stretch and doesn't require the ball pointed needle. Also, you would want to sew stretchy, knits fabrics with polyester thread which allows for a bit of a stretch, while cotton thread does not.
@@ShaniaShania Ehhmm....sorry, but no!!! Woven fabric stretch ONLY on the bias, when you cut diagonally. Really stop giving wrong info to people or go inform yourself before giving wrong advice to people.
It’s great that you’re using an ordinary machine and not a super duper, top of the range, bells and whistles model which I will never own. It’s good to see what you accomplish with a regular model. Thank you and stay safe. 🌲🌝☘️
Excellent tutorial! This time I probably will just try #1 so I don’t have to buy anything else, but the next time I’m in the fabric store I will be looking for a double needle. Your instructions are so easy to follow I can definitely see using it now that you’ve shown me how. Thank you for the great video!!! I will be looking for your others!
In your video the sample you're sewing, is right sound down, yet you show the finished sample just the opposite. Because you dont know how many novice sewers are watching, you need to let them know when hemming with a double needle the fabric is right side up. A tip... practic on a scrap, right side down, to judge where you want the needles to fall. Mark the edge of the needle plate with painters tape, where your fabric ends. Now when you hem your project, right side up, you can follow the tape.
Thanks Geraldine! I did not mention this point about the fabric facing right side up in the video, but I DID answer this question to a viewer who made the same observation as you, and I notified her that the fabric is right side up so that the double row of stitches is visible. Thanks for the tip about the painter's tape. xoxo, Shania
I have used painters tape, or what we call masking tape here in South Africa to make a mark where i want the material to slide next to. That is such a useful and easy way to make marks. The other option i use is to use a marking pen, (i suppose you call it a sharpie) to mark the position on the needle plate, and when i am done, i use Methylated Spirits to clean off the mark when i am done.
@@101boertjie if you are looking to remove permanent marker ink from something other than fabric like the metal plate on your machine, you can go over the mark you made with the same marker a few times quickly and just wipe away. The ink reactivates the dried ink and allows it to be removed. You do need to act quickly and wipe before it dries again.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DITCH THE MUSIC. I couldn't concentrate or even hear what you are saying. So distracting and made me nervous as hell. Are all your videos like this? It's obvious you know your stuff and I'm sure this 71 year old seamstress can learn a lot from you but not if I can't hear you or focus on what you are saying. Thank you.
Maybe it's an age thing. I'm 62 and I couldn't concentrate on her narrative, either. I wanted very much to hear what she was saying, but the music was in competition. Great personality. Great content. That's all you need.
Hey D She! I'm sorry for the confusion. Someone else had mentioned the same thing. This was a video editing error. If you want the double row of stitches to be on the right side, you have to sew the garment so that the right side is facing up. Otherwise, if you sew with the wrong side facing up, you'll have a zig zag stitch on the right side of the garment, and the 2 rows of stitches will be on the wrong side of the garment. Hope this helps. Is there anything in particular that you'd like me to do my next tutorial on? xoxo -Shania
Shania, you have a really good voice for tutorials. Also, you explain things clearly. Good job! I agree with other comments... you don't need that music.
Hey Sam! I'm sorry about the background music, it sounds find on my system, but i'll be more mindful next time. I'm happy that you found the tips useful however. :)
If that wonder tape is wash away wouldn’t you have to stitch it so the hem doesn’t come apart in the wash? Sorry I’m trying to learn how to make garments and definitely have a lot to learn. I’m a quilter but have always wanted to learn how to make clothing it’s just really intimidating to me. I just need to go for it and practice. Thanks for the tips and I hope to learn more from you. Next time can you maybe to a tutorial without the background music it was a little distracting. I would love to see basic garment tutorials like everyday type clothing and lounge clothes 😊
Hi Jacky! Thanks for stopping by 😁 You're right about the tape, it is wash away, so the best bet is to stitch as well. However, if for any reason you aren't able to stitch, say for example: you're in a bind and need a quick fix, then the wonder tape (without stitching) is a quick remedy. On the other hand, if you're not facing wardrobe malfunction and you're able to sew, then stitching over the tape is the best thing to do. As for your sewing intimidation, don't let it get the best of you. The world would love to see the wonderful creations you're capable of producing, don't cheat us of your creativity because of intimidation. I never went to school for sewing, everything I've learned thus far has been through trial and error. If I can do it, *you definitely can too*. Not to mention, you've already got somewhat of a head start as a quilter, am I right? p.s. Thanks for the content suggestions, and I'll try to lower the background music in my upcoming videos. Have you subscribed to my channel, and turned on your notifications as well? 😁😁 With love, Shania
W Jacky Use Knit Stay tape for sewing knits. Here is a page that fully explains it along with two videos one of which has a great twin needle video so-sew-easy.com/how-and-where-to-use-knit-stay-tape/
I just decided this morning that I need to shorten some knit capri pants, but hesitated because I don't have a serger. This video popped up on my suggestions, and it is spot on what I need!! I'll let you know my results! Thank you for such a clear video.
Wow, I have been sewing for 50 yrs and never had the nerve to try a double needle, didn't really know their purpose THANK YOU! You really explained this perfectly and I learned something new and I will be exploring more about the double needle....Thanks again!
Instructions are good, but I have to agree, the music was totally unnecessary. It took away from your talking. Also clean nails with unchipped nail polish (or no polish at all) are a must. Sorry for the negatives, but what I mentioned was a great distraction for me.
I did notice the nail polish, but I guess I kind of liked feeling like you were more concerned about sharing your skills than worrying about whether your polish was perfect. I know it is probably distracting for people who always have perfect nails, but it didn't bother me. As a person in my 60's, who has trouble sometimes distinguishing voices from background noise as I've gotten older, I would have preferred the music to be softer. You are young, so folks your age probably don't have any trouble. You said you are learning, so just figured I'd chime in my feedback. The video was very helpful, and thank you for making it!!! So easy to understand!
@@golfmom108 Nope, my nails aren’t perfect. In fact, I hate putting on polish. But if you’re going to share your craft and the major focal point is your hands, it’s wise to make them look their best.
Thank you! It's strange because even though a lot of people have mentioned the music as loud/distracting, it sounds fine on my both my computer and my phone, so I don't know....(sigh) Thanks for your feedback though xoxo, Shania
I guess some people are really easily distracted. I hope they don't listen to the radio while driving, chopping veggies, etc oh lawd! lol I liked the music very much btw

You’re a tremendous help! Thank you!
Shania, you are wonderful! My sewing machine did not even come with instructions on how to use the twin needles. I followed your instructions and hemmed the sleeves on a t-shirt. It turned out PERFECT!! I'm going to try hemming my stretch leggings next. Thank you so much for your video!
Thank you, I know it's an older video but I just ran across it and this was super helpful with such a persistently frustrating sewing problem! Thank you particularly for having correct closed captioning - due to neurodiversity issues I couldnt listen to the audio with its very heavy backing track, but thanks to the accurate CC text I could still follow along & learn!
I'm so glad I found your video! I have a t-shirt that's seam is starting to unravel and I want to fix it, and thanks to this video you made, now I can, thank you so much.
I’ve watched several videos for hemming t-shirt sleeves. All of them suggested the use of a double needle, but none of them showed it. That was very helpful. Thank you. .
I appreciate your video. I have been scared of ruining this new outfit. You were so clear and confident. I tried it. The hem went in to smoothly. It was easy to sew on the fabric with the Wonder Tape.

the CC is very helpful but yeah the music swelled a little too much at some points

Absolutely! This is my machine!
Hey Natasha! I'm so happy to hear that you found my video helpful. Are there any other sewing challenges that you're having?
This was a great job and I am sure it will inspire others!
thank you so much!! ✨💕
I'm an old lady whose been sewing since 1969 love your videos. Always interesting. Sometimes we get into a rut and don't keep an eye out on new things. Thanks
Yip! There's always something new to learn. Thanks for watching my video! xoxo, Shania
Damn, girl, I've never subscribed to a UA-camr faster. Hands down the best tutorial on this, and I've watched MANY vids on sewing.
Thank you sooo much!!! What other sewing challenges do you have?
Excellent, thank you for these tips, especially the twin needles!
Mad props 👏 definitely gonna try that twin needle setup
yayy!! i really love to hear that! The twin needle is a game changer. Let me know if you have any questions along the way! ✨💕
Completely agree, no jargon, just clear visuals and instructions 👍👍👍
Thank you so much. I really needed this review with all its clear and detailed steps. You are an excellent teacher. Your voice is also so clear and pleasant to listen to. God Gless you.
Thank you so much for such positive feedback, I really appreciate it and I hope that you'll stick around to watch more of my videos. xoxo, Shania
You are a blessing! This is exactly what I needed to hem my knit pants. My serger disappeared in a move and I cannot afford a new one. Do consider omitting the music because I want to concentrate on what you are saying and your beautiful voice. Thank you again for your help!
ooof , sorry to hear about your serger! i hope by now you've replaced it
I love your video!
I'm going to try the twin needle. It's been sitting in my needle box for decades!
yesssss! it's such a great tool, break it out! :))
Yeah me too, double needle for me....headed to hobby lobby
Followed your instructions to a “t” and IT WORKED!!! I ordered the needles and tape from your links. THANK YOU!!!!!!☺️
This has to be one of the best comments that I've received, ever!!! Thank YOU soooo sooo much. Is there anything other sewing problem that you have that I can help you with , or maybe something (top, skirt, dress, etc) that you would like me to show you how to make? Thanks for stopping by! xoxo, Shania
You’re very welcome. I need to hem some dress pants. How do I use blind hem stitching?
Music too loud!
Love it! Decades of sewing and never ever used the double needle or 4-way stretch fabric. Feeling excited about sewing the arm holes and hem using your beautifully shown techniques, Shania!
Yayyy!!! it’s never too late to learn something new! Happy Sewing!!
Yes thank you , your one of the rare people , that included proper settings on machinery , and that’s so important
Thank youuu!!! The details matter to me!!🥰
I have sewed hems on my moms projects, but I want to tailor my own clothes. This is the first tutorial I am watching, and I am SO excited to have found you!!! Thank you thank you! I’ll buy a serger later if I need one, I just want my clothes to fit me and replace pieces I love
a year has passed, have you bought a serger?
Thank you for the clear and concise instructions AND for using proper lighting in your video. It was like an in person, one on one tutorial. Thank you!!!
Thanks, Gina!!! 🔅💕
This is brilliant! Thank you so much! I'm making a costume and have been in panic mode trying to deal with stretchy fabric, but this tutorial was super clear and super helpful, and I can already see what I was doing wrong! THANK YOU ANGEL!!!!
Geeemmmmmm!!! This is so wonderful! I'm happy that you found my video helpful and that you've found a solution. What kind of costume are you making?
That's very sweet of you! Thanks for that Shania, and thanks for the additional bit of excellent advice! xxx
You have such a nice, calm voice, and it was very helpful to see samples of different ways to hem stretchy fabric. Thank you for posting.
Awwwh, thank you so much! xoxo, Shania
This was the best instruction for sewing stretchy fabric I have ever seen. Awesome! Thank you!
you're very welcome! is there any thing else i can help you with?
Thank you for being my teacher today! Taking your recommendations to the store to purchase twin needles and look for the sticky tape. Even "if" I don't use all today, I'll have the new tips and options for another sew ...thanks again for todays sewing lessons! Have a great day!
You're very welcome!
Thanks Shania, I think this is the best how to explanation I’ve seen. Great help, cheers, Jon.
So happy to hear that! Thanks Jon, cheers! 🥂
Thank you. You explained and answered all my questions. All in one video save me time watching different videos. I am a beginner and your tips are really helpful.
Yayyy! I’m so happy to hear that 💞
Lovely clear instructions! Thank you for making this video!
Thank you for the tip, I just finished my project which was stretchy fabric, & it worked, love it! Thank you again!
@@Momzie808 yayyy!! So happy to hear it worked out! What’s next on your sewing to do/make list? 👀
Great tips!! I know some that are very good at their craft, but lousy teachers. You in the other hand are gifted! Thank you
Nov. 13/18 - Hi Shania, you're a lovely lady with a good and soft voice. I enjoyed your tips, again as I read below music was a bit loud. Thanks so much for the time and your kindness. God bless.
Hey Ellie! Thanks for the sweet feedback, so happy that you stopped by. xoxo, Shania
You are my -life- hem saver!
One of the most helpful videos I’ve seen this year. Thank you!!!!
Yaayyy! You're so welcome!
I've only just now discovered that you can get a twin needle for a regular machine and how to use it from this video! Thanks a lot!! Great tips!!! 🇳🇬
Hey, I loved your tutorial! Suggestion for your future clips would be to lower the music... it was really competing with your wisdom. Loved the tunes, just need to really background it a bit. Chow!
Hey Christine, I appreciate your feedback, and thanks for watching my video. xoxo, Shania
good job but the
music is over powering to hear your voice.
I agree
I agree tii
Great tips. But I don't like the background music. I was not able to hear you. I was distracted.
But, thank you.👍🏼
i have always ended up with wavy hems on t-shirts but had the brillliant idea to watch youtube for my latest hem and i'm so happy I did! I used my double needle for the FIRST TIME EVER and the hem is great. Thank you so much for sharing your tips and tricks. I really, really appreciate you!!
Need to watch again, but will the side that shows look straight? Thanks.
Great tutorial. Excellent demonstration. Kill the music.
The music is making me crazy. Hard to concentrate on what your saying.
Hey Terri! Sorry to hear that. There's also the option to turn off the sound, and turn on the subtitles. Hope this helps! xoxo, Shania
I agree. You have a nice voice. I made it half way thru before closing. No need to compete with yourself.
I was about to comment the same thing :) just your relaxing voice and maybe some quieter gentler music would be great. Thanks for the help with this though!!
I was thinking how much I liked the music compared to a lot of other videos. Must be so hard making these videos trying to please everyone
@@audreyh6628 Hey Audrey! Yeah, some people didn't have an issue with the sound at all, it IS had to please everyone (thanks for even considering that). xoxo, Shania
Great video! Love the comparisons. Very helpful I appreciate it!
Hi Kellie!!!! I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful :) Is there any other tip that you'd like me to make a video on?
Or joining two pieces where the direction of stretch are perpendicular?
ohhhh, those both sound like good topics, thanks so much for your feedback. xoxo, Shania
Absolutely hands down the best and clearest instructions I have had the pleasure to watch. Thank you Shania well done.
Awwhhh, thank you so much! I'm really happy that you found my tips helpful. Is there anything else that I can help you with? xoxo, Shania
Very nice, helpful video. Thanks! But the music is very distracting.
Thanks for the feedback ankimo1957! xoxo, Shania
The bar you put your feet on is called a shank . But this info was good. Keep up the good work.
Hey there! Thank you soooo much, I didn't know that. I learned something new.xoxo, Shania
The music is maddening!! No no You have a beautiful voice!! What is the music about??
Thanks for the feedback Peggy. xoxo, Shania
Patient, detailed and clear instructions. You're an amazing teacher. Thank you👏💖💝
that's really so kind!! thank you so much!! ✨💕
Thanks for the tips...Very helpful
Hey Charlene! I'm happy that you found these tips helpful :) Are there any other tips you'd like me to make a video on?
Actually yes... when I make pants or shorts, my crotch is baggy and my behind is tight, ( I have small hips but a big butt), how can I fix this?? Thank u
hmmm okay, first some questions: when you make pants/shorts are you making them from scratch (or are you tracing a from already made pants/shorts? does problem occur when you're working with stretchy fabric or non-stretch fabric?
I use a pair of jeans, and it really don't matter which fabric I use they always come out the same... but mostly non stretching
If you are tracing regular non-stretchy denim jeans onto stretchy fabric, you'll have make the pattern smaller to compensate for the stretch. If you're trying to make stretchy pants/shorts, your best bet would be to trace a pair of leggings. I hope that helps. :)
I agree with the comment on the music, I found it distracting, and could not clearly hear your instructions.
Hi Tina, I'm sorry to hear that you missed the major points in this video (use a zig zag stitch, use stay tape, or use a twin needle, and iron your hem flat). I will try to be more attentive the next time I'm editing my video.
i want to try the sticky tape!!
Hey friend! Yes, you definitely should. It's on amazon, here: amzn.to/2gg3Bfm
This was so helpful and easy to understand, I had no idea you could make it look professional using a twin needle and not with a fancy machine! I thought I would just be stuck with zigzags that look out of place. Thank you so much!
@@mymeck1154 yep!! The twin needles are definitely magical ✨ lmk if you have other sewing difficulties that I can help u with
Hi Shania, 3 years after the making, your video helped me immensely, thanks so much! And I didn't even notice there was music, too busy listening to your sewing wisdom. 🤗

it is much more better with musikk you kind of enjoy the video
Thank youuuu! I think you're like the only person who likes the music. I think need to keep the music but I need to pay more attention to how loud it is. Thanks for stopping by Falna
I don't like listening to any music when someone is talking either. It diverts my attention. If you watch professional how-to videos they don't have music playing WHILE they are talking, only during moments without speech.
PamelaBarnes QuiltsByPamela nooooooooo
Thank you for the tutorial. I wanted to add that you don't use the pin tuck foot to make double hemming....this can confuse people. And you didn't mention the most important thing for sewing with stretchy fabric......a ball point needle!!!! Without that you go nowhere!!
Hey there! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your feedback. xoxo, Shania
Does stretchy fabric tend to be knit rather than woven?
@@serdnaasonipse1511 Yes! Exactly!! Jersey, for example, a stretchy fabric, is a type of knit that needs a ball pointed needle. Cotton, on the other side, is a type of woven that doesn't usually stretch and doesn't require the ball pointed needle. Also, you would want to sew stretchy, knits fabrics with polyester thread which allows for a bit of a stretch, while cotton thread does not.
@@serdnaasonipse1511 Stretchy fabric can be both knit or woven. I hope this helps! xoxo, Shania
@@kimwearne8451 yayyy! Let me know how it goes when you try it out 🥰 🤗 happy sewing!!
I noticed this, too! Rewatched this part several times to see why my 2 rows are on the wrong side of the fabric!
patrick farley genius you!
Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback. xoxo, Shania
I loved the music
I like the background music its fine
Maybe it's an age thing. I'm 62 and I couldn't concentrate on her narrative, either. I wanted very much to hear what she was saying, but the music was in competition. Great personality. Great content. That's all you need.
N R 51 agree with you. I can’t concentrate with it either.
It looked as though you sewed on the wrong side with the twin needle, but in the finished result, the double line was on the right side. I'm confused!
Thanks Merry!
Ditto comments about your teaching style! So easy to understand how to use twin needles too! Thankyou!
Thank you so much, Sondra 💕
Thanks a lot for this nice and useful video. Just the background music is so annoying!!
Hey Sam! I'm sorry about the background music, it sounds find on my system, but i'll be more mindful next time. I'm happy that you found the tips useful however. :)
Love your way of teaching; HATE the loud background music.
Thanks for your feedback Jocelyn! xoxo, Shania

Wow, I have been sewing for 50 yrs and never had the nerve to try a double needle, didn't really know their purpose THANK YOU! You really explained this perfectly and I learned something new and I will be exploring more about the double needle....Thanks again!
Omg thank you! Yours is the only video that says stitch length width and tension settings. My fabric looks so much better thank you!
Yayyyy! You’re very welcome ☺️
Instructions are good, but I have to agree, the music was totally unnecessary. It took away from your talking. Also clean nails with unchipped nail polish (or no polish at all) are a must. Sorry for the negatives, but what I mentioned was a great distraction for me.
Hey Joyce, thanks for the feedback! xoxo, Shania
I had no trouble hearing you over the music and thought it fit the video perfect. And I'm someone who hates most music.
Thank you! It's strange because even though a lot of people have mentioned the music as loud/distracting, it sounds fine on my both my computer and my phone, so I don't know....(sigh) Thanks for your feedback though xoxo, Shania
I guess some people are really easily distracted. I hope they don't listen to the radio while driving, chopping veggies, etc oh lawd! lol
I liked the music very much btw

Shania, yours was an excellent video, so well presented. Having said that, I thought the music was distracting, too loud and strident.
Shania, God bless you for posting a clearly explained how to! I was never good at sewing, just knew the basics enough to sew costumes for my kids as they grew up. They’re about your age now, maybe older than you. Now my daughter asked to learn more about sewing, and while I can show her the basics, I will also recommend watching your videos!

Hey Julio! I'm so happy that the t-shirt came out wonderfully! Were you able to try the leggings, how did they turn out? xoxo, Shania
I appreciate your gratitude ❣️ sending you positive vibrations ✨
Thanks....as a new sewer I appreciate all your help.
💕youre welcome!!
Thanks ! I watched several videos on how to hem shirts and this one provided the most information

Thank you. .
You're welcome! xoxo, Shania
I appreciate your video. I have been scared of ruining this new outfit. You were so clear and confident. I tried it. The hem went in to smoothly. It was easy to sew on the fabric with the Wonder Tape.
Helen Jackson yayyyy!!!!! I really am so happy to know that you found a solution and that you didn’t ruin your new outfit!!! 😊😊 let me know of there are any other sewing difficulties that come up for you. Xoxo, Shanía
I love the idea of taping it down instead of pining it. I can’t wait to start on with a practice fabric so I can sew together a tube! Thank you for your great tips!!
