Be Near Me by ABC is a perfect example of the great music we had in the 80's, there was so much new music being released so fast you could not keep up with it all at the record store but soon you would hear it on the radio. Martin Frey used to be a client of mine many years ago, after the release of their biggest album at that time, I was always amazed at what he shared were his influences, and it always goes back to Motown and classics, and what I mean classics, contemporary classics from like Smokey Robinson to Roxy Music, he has very eclectic tastes... Because today, singers have to shake their fanny all over the place just like the dancers, and they have to look pretty. Their live viewing audience won't accept the singer not moving like a monkey on stage. It's impossible to sing live and on 🔑 on stage and dance around like a court jester. So.... they don't have to be able to sing. It's not important--singing through a machine (Auto-tune) will take care of that. And a machine takes care of many of the other instruments (synthesizer) Music is recorded in an annoying fashion. All the frequencies on the graphic equalizer are turned up to the maximum. As I said before in a different way---vocal pitch correction is heavily used (Britney Spears). But they use it on people who don't even need it (Michael Bublé). Synthesizers have substituted real instruments. Then you have ghost singing (Jennifer Lopez recordings) and the fact people don't appreciate organic vocal sounds any more. Millenials are weird.. What's super weird is we make stars out of discjockeys. They stand on stage and press their buttons on their machines (spinning records is obsolete, more entertaining, but obsolete) for their digitally recorded music and people in the audience dance Groups used to form organically--now they are formulated by record executives (Backstreet Boys, NSync). Sad , but that is the reality of music today
I would listen to the Alphabet City album regularly, and deduced my favourite ABC song to be either When Smokey Sings or Rage And Then Regret. Then I heard this masterpiece and all that changed.
😂😂😂 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ This, my friends, is the song that broke the air waves and broke them out to an over night sensation 1986, also the first video in music history ever to be scratched... I know that's how I was able to win tickets to see them from 99X and talking to them personally... Happy Hollidays.... And who or whom will be listening come 2025... THE END 😂
I love listening too Martin Frye the talented front man ABC along with 80's hits and he is a senior citizen now and I was a kid watching mtv and my mother and dad alive both deceased and I've never been married and had any kids 53 years old now.
I went to a very small private Catholic high school in the 80's and we had a jukebox in the cafeteria. Every day I played Be Near Me by ABC and Take Me Home by Phil Collins. I had to make sure I was one of the first in the room to make sure my choices got played. I'm sure everyone in my lunch group remembers this song. :)

I remember this, like it was yesterday working at Miller's Outpost! Hitting the malls, cruising Bob's Big Boy, the Boulevard.. How many of you can say that today..
My dear brother said this recently: The 1980s was a better decade for music than many people acknowledge. I agree. ABC was one of my favorite groups.

Enjoying a pint or two with your mates in the pub during the 80's
I had computers in the 80s 🤘 and many ABC fans (many of which were yuppies) had cellphones 😅🤣
In tears , In tears !!! 📻🎵🎶🎼🔕🎷🥁🎺🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎻🎻🎻🎻
I love their music since 1985
@karstenhanel8481 hello, how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here
In 1985 I was 13 year's old in the 7th grade in junior high school when this legendary song came out. ABC
From the Brilliant album Lexicon of Love ❤
It's from How to be a Zillionaire.
On tour with Howard Jones. Can’t wait❤
So awesome. No politics involved. Just talent. Why can't we have this today???
exactly
This song, sure. But the album it’s on (“How to be a Zillionaire”) has plenty of political messaging.
And a machine takes care of many of the other instruments (synthesizer)
Music is recorded in an annoying fashion.
They stand on stage and press their buttons on their machines (spinning records is obsolete, more entertaining, but obsolete) for their digitally recorded music and people in the audience dance
Groups used to form organically--now they are formulated by record executives (Backstreet Boys, NSync). Sad , but that is the reality of music today
I miss that too
Cause it's a selling point now
the golden decade of music. dunno what tf happened but it's gone now since almost 20 yrs ago
Bring back the 80s---the music, the simpler times, even the clothes! When is the time machine done? lol
Only 3.6M, woww,😔 I guess people don't like great music.
I totally agree Rob! Happy memories 🤗
I would listen to the Alphabet City album regularly, and deduced my favourite ABC song to be either When Smokey Sings or Rage And Then Regret.
Then I heard this masterpiece and all that changed.
Sometimes I wonder if we could get all the TVs and Radios to play 80 music for 1 week straight if maybe people would be a little more happy.
One of my favorite ABC songs!! Takes me back to good and care free days!! 😂❤
A true fan is always here….
Hard to believe that many people could thumb down a song like this. Ever since being born in 1980, I have remained with all these 80's songs.
I don’t trust anyone who thumbs down this song!! Seems suspicious.
A lot of 80’s bands had songs that gave off good positive vibes, like the 60’s did
Some people just don't have good music taste
Ever since being born 1n the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and beyond many people cherish this decade's pop music. Quite simply, it was freakin' bomb ass..
I remember this, like it was yesterday working at Miller's Outpost! Hitting the malls, cruising Bob's Big Boy, the Boulevard..
How many of you can say that today..
