In melodies revealed
In deep despair on lonely nights
He knows just how you feel
The slyest rhymes, the sharpest suits
In miracles made real
Like a bird in flight on a hot sweet night
You know you're right just to hold her tight
He soothes it right, makes it out of sight
And everything's good in the world tonight
When Smokey sings, I hear violins
When Smokey sings, I forget everything
As she's packing her things
As she's spreading her wings
The front door might slam
But the back door it rings
And Smokey sings, he sings
Elegance in eloquence
For sale or rent or hire
Should I say yes and match his best?
Then I would be a liar
Symphonies that soothe the rage
When lovers' hearts catch fire
Like a bird in flight on a hot sweet night
You know you're right just to hold her tight
He soothes it right, makes it out of sight
And everything's good in the world tonight
When Smokey sings, I hear violins
When Smokey sings, I forget everything yeah
As she's packing her things
As she's spreading her wings
Smashing the hell
With the heaven she brings
Then Smokey sings, he sings
Luther croons
Sly's the original originator
James screams (uh-uh)
Marvin was the only innovator
(Innovator)
But nothing can compare
Nothing can compare
When Smokey sings
(Sings)
When Smokey sings, I hear violins
When Smokey sings, I forget everything
As she's packing her things
(Ooh ooh)
As she's spreading her wings
(Ooh ooh)
She threw back the ring
(Ooh ooh)
When Smokey sings
Smokey sings

Good song, but the shrine in the video is weird.
I doubt smokey was that impressed to be honest.
Better tributes exist 😉
Classic 80's British Pop. Superb tune, and suitable tribute to the great man himself. Love that sax playing too!
Another great 80's band that gave us some fantastic music .Very underrated !
One of my favorite songs from the group. They still do tour once in a great while. Be Near Me is the other.
Be Near Me gets me right in the guts.
This song never goes out of style, even in Oct. 2020 the 80s were an awesome decade
In 2020-21 even more reason for fun 80s!!
GREAT TRIBUTE TO AN AWESOME CROONER. I WISH ABC HAD STUCK AROUND A BIT LONGER. LOVE THEIR SONGS
I agree 😄
I love all their songs but this is my favourite
JAYROB BRUTUS They were supporting someone at the Milton Keynes Bowl some years back and I could hear it all standing in the back garden of someone's house nearby.
Ralph Jackson Martin Fry is still out there. In fact, In June 2014 it was revealed that a dozen early tapes were discovered of rare remixes and unheard songs from ABC's first three albums. These were returned to him and he was delighted, but so far, he isn't sure what he's gonna do with them. The rediscovered songs "include a "That's It Folks!" mix of "So Hip It Hurts" from Zillionaire. From Beauty Stab, reams of early studio takes have come to light including one song, "You And Me," that never made the final album. From the Lexicon of Love era, the group's own, pre-Trevor Horne demos of "All of My Heart" have come to light, along with a reel entitled "4 Ever 2 Gether - The Outtake, Starring Martin Fry as Ken Dodd.
FaytLinegod Interesting! Thx
Absolutely brilliant video… music, clothes, style. Perfection!!!
Absolutely a great song..
ABC at it's finest..
Like a bird in flight on a hot sweet night
You know you're right just to hold her tight
He soothes it right, makes it out of sight
And everything's good in the world tonight.. ❤
Love the groove and a shout out to Smoky Robinson.
Heard this in the radio in the late of night and I instantly loved it. Great song.
This is masterpiece.... I wish someone sing such a song about me some day. I guess no need any big money or big stages. Just to know that someone's life was better because of your art. Thats the true reward for any artist.
Great song ! The backup girls are great too !
🌼💚🌼Thank you, Sir Martin Fry & ABC for this wonderful song!!
🌼💚🌼The Sonnet Of Siegfried... always & forever!!
We saw ABC last week at The Cliffs Pavillion Southend. I can say at 64 years old Martin Fry sings and has the same charisma he had 40 years ago. He opened the show with this song - just amazing.
The entire album is insanely great!
We need ABC more now than ever. What great music hearing it now. Timeless as I remember it in the early 80s from high school and through college. We need more original music like this. Martin Fry is great as is the band.
For me personally,
this is arguably the BEST cover song tribute to Smokey Robinson & the Miracles I have heard.
