Hey Werner. My issue with flaws is a mild mental disorder. Much of my family, on my father's side have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ... Two of his sisters (my aunts) are non functioning members of society due to this. One of them has successfully burned down two of her houses while her husband was sleeping, and went back to bed with the house on fire. They survived both times. Two of his brothers are functioning members of society, but it is fairly obvious they struggle. I consider myself VERY lucky that I have mild symptoms. WhenI was building my garage... I had all of the sheathing on the roof, but it wasn't lined up correctly. I could see from my kitchen window that it was not perfect, so I went outside, went into the attic and kicked it all off and bought new stuff. I then installed the new stuff with a laser level thing and covered it with tar paper before I could see if it was strait. Rationally, I know that you are 100% right. Not only do the imperfections not matter, but they are a complete waste of time to worry about. Perhaps you are right and I can train myself to look at the imperfections in a new way. As a feature instead of a flaw. It has been very strange without Quasar. I find myself looking for him, or thinking that I hear him... I get up from working at my computer to go check on him and realize he's not here. It's tough, but I have gotten to visit him already, and I will get used to him not being here.
@@loweredexpectations4927 I know about these diorders. Doesn't help to rest on a diagnosis, although people seem to like it. Problem is, won't get better by knowing a word for the plague, will get worse over time despite that and effect life more and more. Regardless what the disorder is, whatever doesn't work in life because of personal structures, seems to stick and grow with age. Seems a bit strange, as one might think, the opposite is more plausible. Behaviour therapy is the only therapy method, that showed satisfying results so far. That's, why i would try to leave imperfections and get used to it. The sooner in life, the better. Because watching your satisfying perfect work getting destructed or rot over time won't help either. On the contrary - that sucks even more energy. And is beyond one's control. How stupid is that. If Quasar was your cat, i would have kept him. If it's Megans, well, then it's another thing. The fact, that she could do operations or treatment for free doesn't keep Quasar from getting sick in the first place. And he might, if he was your cat.
Awesome video Joel. Stay strong, as I've been there, had that like 25 yrs ago! This on the job video will def gen more business for ya. As with the Honda (as I have electric start version), is how that one started first go. With mine, at the beginning of the season ii gotta spray bit of "Start Ya Bastard", and it's all good. Normal start proceedure from there on. However, I also have a Honda Gen from 1990 (originally from Sth Africa, with around 90hrs) can sit for a year, then go to start it up and Bingo!, starts first time with and of the "Bastard Starting" stuff (same as carb cleaner?) Heh, to be honest, I been small engine mech since my teen years but don't bother much these days. :) Take care buddy, and above all, STAY POSITIVE! THINGS WILL ONLY GET BETTER. ;)
LOL.... "start ya bastard" I carry a can in my tool bag and almost everything get a little kick in the ass for that first start. I have used carb clearer, but the stuff I use now is ether ( starter fluid). A little more potent and evaporates very quickly. I think the older mowers have a little bigger jets as they weren't so worried about emissions. More refined carbs have smaller jets that tend to get gummed up easier. Thanks for the comment and support !
back when I was a kid well graduated from high school I worked for SEARS Roebuck and I did air conditioning refrigeration which soon turned into everything except electronics, which don’t get me wrong…..I loved it especially on a nice day gone from place to place working on lawnmowers, mostly tractors with a van that had Ali just about everything you could imagine because Sears only worked on Sears stuff so I had all the parts and it was great! But I had Sears‘s truck Sears, gas Sears parts Sears tools and Sears customers all lined up for me every day❤️🔥

8:05 I think I have that mower. You're an old school introvert which is pretty sweet. You make your day job look pretty slick. It makes me wonder how many mowers you service in a year. Drywall sucks. I think the new school thing for ugly drywall is to get some crappy old pallet wood and make a shiplap wall and call it a day. It looks great because it looks crappy. It's definitely hard getting out of project hell when you have real important life stuff you have to do!
I have a similar mower to that one but without self propell. I have to push like a neanderthal 🤣 Good to hear from you Jacob ! I miss you, brother. I have been doing it for 10 years, out of my truck, so I kinda have the hang of it. It works better when it's not snowing, haha. I have counted how many I do... but I forget. It's around 400 per season. Haha... I had thought about making an ugly wall and calling it a "feature wall" or "accent wall" and just telling everyone that I am artsy and creative, haha. How is your house doing? Have you had to do a bunch of drywall work ? I would totally watch every video you made about that.
@@loweredexpectations4927 I ripped out a bit of drywall and it's annoying to get rid of when you are destroying it. I'm sure its worse preserving it and trying to make it look good. At this point I'm planning on tearing my house down and leaving a wall so I can do a remodel. It will be interesting to see how it works out. I'm definitely not attacking the project like I probably should. I just got the fx1 out on the water today. I didn't touch anything under the hood. just fired it up and rode it. That thing RIPS! It was so refreshing to just have something work like that. It stinks that you have to put your good stuff on hold. I miss your ski videos but you just can't do everything. I bet the time you get away from building cool stuff will just make you love it more when you come back to it. Praying that you burn through all the annoying projects you don't want to do quickly!
@@Jacobskibros Haha. I totally know the feeling of wanting to tear it all down and build back from scratch... Remodelling can be a real pain. Attacking it works for some people, and not for others. In the past, I have attacked remodelling and gotten burnt out on it quickly. If it's a huge job, you are often better off to pace yourself and do a few hours a week on it. Work on it when it's raining. Sweet ! An FX1 that no only works but rips AND doesn't require a whole bunch of tinkering. That's great news. You like the way it handles ? Thanks... It's a bit of a balancing act at the moment. I need to get as much lawnmower service done as possible, to pull in funds... but I also need to get renovations done so that I can move my stuff downstairs and get someone else living upstairs. It's difficult to burn through projects that you aren't into, but it needs to be done.
Nice to see "A day in the life of a mobile small engine mechanic". Glad you are doing okay with all that is going on personally. Hang in there,. and keep up the good work! Prayers being said for your well being and happiness. Cheers from Oregon, Philip P.S. I think you need another cat in your life. Hopefully you'll meet and adopt a good companion soon. Heck, depending on the disposition and temperament of the cat, it might like coming with you on your service calls and hanging out in the truck. Food, water and a portable cat box, and maybe a rigid screen you could rig up to put in your mostly lowered passenger window and they would be set. And/or possibly even by the truck on a leash if you can figure out a portable shade for them that would make them contented. I had a black male cat that just liked "hanging out" where I was. If my lap was free, he'd often be in it, but if not available, he would just plop down next to me and just be happy "keeping me company". He slept at the foot of my bed most nights, but was never demanding. His name was Chester, and he lived 16 out of his 17 years with me (and my daughter while she was growing up) before he passed. I still miss the guy's presence in my life, and was grateful for the time I had with him. I recommend you do a trial day or so with the new cat to make sure the temperament is compatible. I found out the hard way with the next one that not all are, which was a mature rescue female cat that was genuinely stupid (possibly brain damaged) and very demanding/needy in a not-pleasant way. I put up with her for about 18 months before she passed because I didn't think I would be able to re-home her. (Many folks say fixed males are more affectionate than the female cats, which I think may be true.)
Oh... this is the cat comment you were asking if I saw., haha... I hadn't seen this one. I hadn't considered that... I don't know what the chances are that i'd find a cat that liked travelling in a truck. That would be cool though. Chester sounds like a great cat. They sure are nice to have around. I always thought I was a dog person, but after owning a few cats, I think I'm a cat person, haha. Megan works at a vet clinic, and they always have cats that are in need of a home. If / when it comes time, she would be able to pick out a cat that would suit me well. After getting Quasar, she tried taking 3-4 more home, but I didn't think it was a good idea. In time... we will see.

Thanks ! ... Yes, most people don't realize it is the vendor that pays for all of your "free stuff"... it's borderline criminal. They 100% are like ... here's some free stuff that we just invented ... don't worry, we are charging the retailer for it. I have considered charging a credit card fee for anyone who wants to use it... Generally I just turn the option off unless someone specifically requests it. Here in Canada (not sure where you are... can't remember) we have email money transfers... they cost me nothing, and either cost the sender nothing (depending on their bank plan) or cost very little.
I actually started with a nice 16 x 8 foot insulated trailer with a propane heater... I have a few OLD videos on my other channel of using it. The "issue" is that it made it difficult to get into alleyways and to find parking, in a lot or places. I used it for 3-4 years and decided it was not worth the hassle. It would be cool for making videos tho.
@@loweredexpectations4927 Maybe you need an old cube van like a small uhaul truck. Although getting mowers in and out might be a hassle with the ramp and gas to drive it would cost more.
@@PUBHEAD1 Yeah. A big part of every service is running the unit.. and that needs to be done outside. I have strongly considered making some sort of canopy / awning for my truck... but it would have to be VERY robust to stand up to Calgary weather, and would only help a little.

@@PUBHEAD1 Today was a little crazy. I only had 5 service calls, but one of them was two broken mowers and another was 2 broken mowers and a trimmer. The last thing I want is to be behind schedule, and have a broken awning that I have to deal with, in the pouring rain and wind, haha. I had considered something with walls that would fold up on top of my truck cap, but if I blocked the side walk, someone would have something to say about that, I'm sure. I would have to have something off the rear of the cap, and then I need extra parking space... and we are back to the towing a trailer problem, haha.

It has been very strange without Quasar. I find myself looking for him, or thinking that I hear him... I get up from working at my computer to go check on him and realize he's not here. It's tough, but I have gotten to visit him already, and I will get used to him not being here.

I know about these diorders.
That was fun to watch.. As far as ex adjustments.. I have found that I miss every boat that I’ve ever had but none of my ex´s.. interesting 🤨
LOL... I miss my cat and my Mini (my car) ... Megan is small but I don't call her "Mini". 🤣
However, I also have a Honda Gen from 1990 (originally from Sth Africa, with around 90hrs) can sit for a year, then go to start it up and Bingo!, starts first time with and of the "Bastard Starting" stuff (same as carb cleaner?)
Heh, to be honest, I been small engine mech since my teen years but don't bother much these days. :)
Take care buddy, and above all, STAY POSITIVE!
But I had Sears‘s truck Sears, gas Sears parts Sears tools and Sears customers all lined up for me every day❤️🔥
I'm here to support the channel and to gain knowledge....And of course to deliver some side splitting humorous content of my own...🤣
Keep your head up, stay strong, and keep moving forward.... And for all that's holy, add some funny "Lowered Expectations" shit to your merch store !!
20:22 ... I drive a 2 door Jeep with a sticker on the back that says " Nothing Says That I Don't Like People Like A 2 Door" .... There's nothing wrong with being an introvert !!
Humor is a valuable weapon... Hard to get through life without it, haha.
I like that "Nothing Says That I Don't Like People Like A 2 Door"
introverts are the real workforce !
no blah blah blah all day but actually getting shit done 💪 even tho it is just to escape from ppl 😅
@@casemodder89 Haha... This may be true. My job often "forces" me to work around people, and I have gotten pretty good at getting through it. I think I tend to talk to much, trying to overcompensate ... worried that they will think I'm not friendly, haha.
Good to hear from you Joel. Glad to see you are keeping busy.
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it. I'm glad I'm busy. It keeps my mind occupied.
Keep you head up. Keep making videos. It will get better. You are a good person and a survivor!!
Thanks, Robert ! I appreciate your support and kind words.
Nice to see "A day in the life of a mobile small engine mechanic". Glad you are doing okay with all that is going on personally. Hang in there,. and keep up the good work!
Prayers being said for your well being and happiness.
Cheers from Oregon,
Philip
Watched this the other day as I ate breakfast. Not my usual fare, but you're really the reason your other videos work, and this one demonstrates that. Best wishes for a profitable season!
Hey Joel, just checkin' up on ya making sure you okay?
Keep working on your videos and now Spring is nearly there, you'll be busy running around doing ya jobs. 👍
I'm messin round with SDR atm. Done it a fews years back but it never worked for me, ..."we'll SEE, said the Blind Man" 😂
Keep on keeping on Joel. I do lawn care to supplement my meagre income. You would be my go to for any small engine help.
Good stuff. It's been a crazy year for me - crazy busy spring.
Hey Joel, glad to hear that your work seems good. I'm a total introvert myself naturally but ofc I'm in the same boat where due to line of work you just have to have some conversations and do your best. Although once I get to know someone well and if they have similar interests it's easy for me to be talkative to them haha. I'm definitely going through a big life phase right now myself with a new career/health and hoping to come out of it stronger and wish you the same with the transitions/goals you're going through. I also wish to have a furry cat friend again but probably isn't the right time since I'm trying hard to take care of my health.
Wishing that your summer is a good one and hopefully life allows you to get out on the water again sooner than you think for some fun adventures ;)
Glad to see you make another video. I can't imagine snow this time of year here in Texas, but the rain here is relentless.
The past few days, we have gotten a little rain. It has been super windy. We are able to get snow all the way till the end of May, and then often get hail storms throughout the summer. The mountains bring exciting weather.
Did not get notification for this, came to say hi and saw you had a new video...30min in before the first garaaage! You had me worried 🤣🤣
Glad to see you're still doing your thing. 👑🤟🏻🤟🏻👑
Hi Joel, nice video, I think lots of people have no idea how much credit cards cost a small business.
Thanks !
In that weather it should be snow blower repairs. :D
Haha.. yeah. That would make a LOT more sense.
Would be cool if you could oneday get a trailer to tow and work out of that. Could heat the trailer with a diesel heater😊
@@JoelArseneaultUA-cam Yeh, I had a buddy who had a camper awningg on the side of his work truck that seemed to work ok for his purposes, unless its as windy as today. This Calgary weather can suck sometimes.
@@PUBHEAD1 Today was a little crazy. I only had 5 service calls, but one of them was two broken mowers and another was 2 broken mowers and a trimmer.
I don't think I would want to risk an awning unless it could really stand up to a day like today.
Great channel
Thanks !
If me and my wife split ways, she would take Jack (our little dog). I would sure miss Jack!
Thank you for this video!
Hopefully that doen't happen. It's rough. That being said, I got to go visit Megan and Quasar yesterday.
You know it’s strange but way back in the 70s nobody ever cleaned carburetors or fuel systems before this corn juice in our fuel it was great stuff you could leave it full of gasoline. Park for the winter or hell park it for two years pull the rope starts right up no troubles today. I’m sure that that keeps many small engine mechanics in business at least in the states I don’t know if you haveall in your fuel in Canada? Worst thing they ever could’ve done for small engines anyway.
Introvert?....gee, i dunno, I just don't seem to be able to fit in with people, but it doesn't bother me.
I'm too old to Re Hire, too young to Re Tire, if that makes sense (amongst other health issues).
I just bumble around these days, and it's good. Took me a while to get used to it after 40 yrs of Continuous Shiftwork.....and yeah, I still have bad habits of stayin up all night! (the silence is deafing) 😂
I went through a LOT of years of not being able to sleep at all... I would fall asleep at 5-6 am.... or on a bad day no sleep at all. When I had days off I would fall asleep at 8 am.
I hear what you are saying about being used to a certain pattern or habits. I don't know that I could ever work a "normal" job again... altho I did a few winters back.
Glad to see you back good luck to your future and thanks for the ride along I enjoyed it and will be looking forward to more videos
