Dumbledore even tells him in "Goblet of Fire" that he could do the right thing and gone down in history as a great man, or be the man who let Voldemort gain power again.
Yeah, I'll never forget that line: “You are blinded,” said Dumbledore, his voice rising now, the aura of power around him palpable, his eyes blazing once more, “by the love of the office you hold, Cornelius! You place too much importance, and you always have done, on the so-called purity of blood! You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be! Your dementor has just destroyed the last remaining member of a pure-blood family as old as any - and see what that man chose to make of his life! I tell you now - take the steps I have suggested, and you will be remembered, in office or out, as one of the bravest and greatest Ministers of Magic we have ever known. Fail to act - and history will remember you as the man who stepped aside and allowed Voldemort a second chance to destroy the world we have tried to rebuild!”
Alex Shih I remember that line too. I also feel that this is extremely under appreciated and deserves way more likes because you taking your time to type out that whole scene/line is amazing.
No, the first Real showing of his true colors was when he sent Hagrid to Azkaban even though he's pretty certain Hagrid wasn't at fault just so it'll look like he's doing something
I completely agree. And he follows up by suggesting Madame Maxime was involved in the attack on Crum and Crouch just because she is part giant and was in the general area that the attack took place.
I know this is late but I was rereading Goblet of Fire and I found this quote after Voldemort returns and Fudge is denying it. “I tell you now - take the steps I have suggested, and you will be remembered, in office or out, as one of the bravest and greatest Ministers for Magic we have ever known. Fail to act - and history will remember you as the man who stepped aside, and allowed Voldemort a second chance to destroy the world we have tried to rebuild!” - Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
Umbridge makes no sense. Her Statements there's no Danger out there, even though Auror is an Actual Job and Dangerous Creaturs are everywhere in this world, is a Plot Hole, a big One. Thanks J.K.Roling.
In Chamberlain's defense would you really want to drag your country who was already traumatized by the last war 20 years earlier into yet another bloodbath
Laila McManus if your making that argument that you would be making the same for fudge, as there was also the first wizarding war around 20 years before the first
remember when he brought 2 dementors with him to guard him when he wanted to interrogate Barty Jr. and ended up with nothing to interrogate at all thanks to the dementors kiss...? :-) ugh
I will defend Fudge on one account, the Buckbeak thing wasnt necessarily on him. In both the Book and the Movie, Fudge mentions that the committee of the disposable of magical creatures or whatever its called needed a witness to the execution, and that he was ALREADY on his way to Hogwarts to check on the Dementors and the Sirius Black situation, so also decided to be the witness, since it was the most efficient thing to do, two birds one stone. We dont get any information verifying that he was at all involved in Buckbeaks court cases.
One inconsistency though is the school governors. Lucius Malfoy was supposed to lose favor with them after the events of Chamber of Secrets, when it's revealed he threatened their families if they didn't keep Dumbledore away from Hogwarts. Yet when he speaks at Buckbeak's trial, Hagrid says they roll over and show their bellies, ignoring Hagrid's defense completely.
No it was actually on him. He was supposed to be the person who can get rid of the corruption. It was stated after all that the Committee members were influenced by Lucius Malfoy.
I think this was the point where Fudge “changed “. He previously had consulted Dumbledore frequently. He was humiliated by Bukbeat (sp) disappearing right under his nose. (Literally). I feel that Lucious used that to Imperious curse/manipulate him into believing Dumbldore/everyone was against him out to get him. His mannerisms changed. Lucius(sp) was in control. That’s my belief. Sorry for misspellings.
@@nahor88 Hagrid is part giant and Lucious is a pureblood of the Sacred 28 (aka pureblood families where their purebloodness hasn't been tainted by halfblood or muggleborns) he is high up in society. No doubt Lucious donated funds to the right people, politicians included. Also the ministry has a history of discrimination toward muggles (not spelled out directly in the books that i can recall, but i do recall it being discussed in pottermore) and with the ministry allows someone like Umbridge to act toward others not fully human or those not pureblood (despite her being halfblood) and allow her to be in a high positions, and how looked down upon Arthur Weasley's position was at the Ministry- it's not a stretch to say blood discrimination still goes strong there. And that all influenced Fudge (his blood status is unknown, but only that he is not considered of the Sacred 28.)
Fudge was more or less a representation of Neville Chamberlain, the prime minister of Britain during Hitler’s rise to power. Both ignored the problem and could have stopped it much sooner or at least slowed it down if they had acted sooner.
(Please give this thumbs up so he can see this!) But J, HOW COULD YOU FORGET ABOUT BARTY CROUCH JUNIOR!? It's the most defining moment of who Fudge actually is: not just a bumbling idiot, but a cold, calculating, politician. For those who haven't read the books, at the end of the Goblet of Fire, when it's revealed that Barty Crouch Jr. was pretending to be Mad-Eye and when Dumbledore gave him the truth-potion, Barty Crouch Jr. began babbling about Voldemort's return. What does Fudge do? He sneaks a Dementor into the room so that it sucks out Barty's soul, getting rid of the only witness who could verify Harry's story. Why? Because he doesn't WANT the public to know that they were in danger under his term. He wanted to make it seem like everything was fine and that he was an effective leader and he was willing to remove a man's soul to make that happen! Here's the full passage: “There is no need to stand guard over him anymore, Dumbledore!” she shrieked. “The Minister has seen to that!” Harry had never seen Professor McGonagall lose control like this. There were angry blotches of color in her cheeks, and her hands were balled into fists; she was trembling with fury. “When we told Mr. Fudge that we had caught the Death Eater responsible for tonight’s events,” said Snape, in a low voice, “he seemed to feel his personal safety was in question. He insisted on summoning a dementor to accompany him into the castle. He brought it up to the office where Barty Crouch -” “I told him you would not agree, Dumbledore!” Professor McGonagall fumed. “I told him you would never allow dementors to set foot inside the castle, but -” “My dear woman!” roared Fudge, who likewise looked angrier than Harry had ever seen him, “as Minister of Magic, it is my decision whether I wish to bring protection with me when interviewing a possibly dangerous -” But Professor McGonagall’s voice drowned Fudge’s. “The moment that - that thing entered the room,” she screamed, pointing at Fudge, trembling all over, “it swooped down on Crouch and - and -” Harry felt a chill in his stomach as Professor McGonagall struggled to find words to describe what had happened. He did not need her to finish her sentence. He knew what the dementor must have done. It had administered its fatal kiss to Barty Crouch. It had sucked his soul out through his mouth. He was worse than dead. “By all accounts, he is no loss!” blustered Fudge. “It seems he has been responsible for several deaths!” “But he cannot now give testimony, Cornelius,” said Dumbledore. *He was staring hard at Fudge, as though seeing him plainly for the first time. *
Marauders4EVR ...and you DON'T think that could be the action of a bumbling idiot? There's very little "cold and calculating" about that, it's more "OMG, THIS IS GOING TO GET OUT AND RUIN MY CAREER! QUICK, COVER IT UP!! UH, DEMENTOR!!"
StarWarsomania ----I'd say that w/o the line about Dumbledore staring at Fudge 'as if for the first time'. We can't know when Umbridge was hired but certainly the carte blanche she was given isn't bumbling, nor slandering both Dumbledore & Harry. I'm thinking of the saying 'Power Corrupts & Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely'.
Also veritasirum is so underused. It should be used on Harry in his trial and after the maze and on Sirius when he is caught. Like the whole thing would have been soo much easier
I'm perhaps a litte late with this reply, but I couldn't help myself. So, in the wizarding world, it is illegal to interrogate a person using Veritaserum unless the person it is used on knows about it. This is an extremely flawed rule though, because the potion does not work if the drinker knows about it. Veritaserum then, is actually utterly useless in this situation.
philipp ii. Well, in the movie they do, but in the books Crouch is actually out of conciousness. Dumbledore then instructs Snape to get his strongest Veritaserum, which Dumbledore feeds to Crouch while he is still unconcious. He then awakens Crouch with a spell, after which they interrogate him. So Crouch did not have any knowledge of them giving him the Veritaseum, which is why it worked then.
I mean, I think the first showing of Fudge's true colors is when in Chamber of Secrets when he imprisons Hagrid on no actual information but on mere rumor.
people aren't rational they knew people were in extreme danger and some were being injured or dying humans react to kids in danger with extreme vitriol, had hagrid not been imprisoned at best there would've been riots at worst hagrid would've been hung in the rafters or burnt alive
@@xilrondo2907 That's still no cause for just locking Hagrid up, & calling it job done. Fudge himself said he was only arresting him for appearance's sake, but then proceeded to do nothing to make sure they actually had the right man. Even if there had been good reason to suspect Hagrid, there still should've been an investigation to make sure.
@@kapitan7357 Right. Which is why he had him thrown in Azkaban without trial. Also, keep in mind that no one knew Hagrid was even accused of opening the Chamber of Secrets the first time.
Rita Skeeta had spent the year lead up to this undermining Harry, point out (unstable and Paraslemouth to boot) and Percy was convinced simply by the exsitance of official policy.
Gerald Grenier I would say that Percy agreed with Fudge more because he knew the rest of his family supported Harry’s view of the events, and he was in poor standing with them by the 4th and 5th books.
Honestly though that's not really cuz Fudge is convincing, wizarding Britain us just filled with sheople whose opinions come directly out of the mouths of authority figures or from the Daily Prophet.
"Even after Dumbledore explains how and why Sirius is innocent, Fudge continues his pursuit of Sirius rather than refocusing his efforts on Peter Pettigrew." You know why? Because Dumbledore never told Fudge anything about what really happened with Sirius.
I wouldn’t say so, in OOTP when they were going to take Dumbledore to Azkaban fudge says ‘Or is there the usual simple explanation involving a reversal of time, a dead man coming back to life and a couple of invisible Dementors?’
@@klaudiagrob Fudge was too prideful in his own ways to be talked to about Sirius. In his mind, Sirius is the murderer, and all because of his traumatic experience investigating Peter Pettigrew's death and seeing Sirius Black laughing, Fudge assuming that he did murder Peter (which he did not), and is too darn stubborn to see the truth of what really happened to only which Sirius and Remus Lupin knew the truth alongside Harry when he asked them what was going on. Fudge cared too much about his career and doing the right thing. He was truly the worst.
they more or less knew why she was blown up, as by that point a closer eye was being kept on him they DIDN'T know why he was performing spells near muggles at the time of his arrest but yes, self defense will usually result in you being arrested until the matter is sorted out, this has always been the case
Xil Rondo They knew he cast a Patronus Charm. So basically your telling me that they kept a close eye on him at that time, but at the time when they were against him they didn’t have a close eye on him?
@@3myr08 at that point they weren't keeping a close eye on him, they knew he cast a patronus because they were told so, and they knew he cast magic in general because of the trace whether the trace can detect individual spells is...unknown but it doesn't really matter they weren't (yet) actively spying on him , and they had no reason to believe dementors would randomly go and attack it's why a huge part of WHY he got off was that someone at the trial secretly ordered (against the ministries wishes) the dementor to attack and forced the spell it was the crux of dumbledores defense of harry
Subconscious random magic is one thing, producing s patronus fully aware of it is another. It's a self defense only if there was something to defend from. Now that's the big question. Of course, even Fudge did not know Umbridge was what she was and she sent them...
And use too much veritaserum, and carve lies into someone's skin, and insult Centaurs, and kick people off quidditch teams, and issue seven "educational decrees", and be stupid with fireworks, and hate half breeds, and use favoritism, and take charge of the school, and have an army of Slytherins, and hate everyone, and wear too much pink, and...
He even wrongly accused Hagrid and sent him to azkaban in the chamber of secrets !!!!! HP:CoS: Chapter 14, "Cornelius Fudge" “Yet again, Cornelius, I tell you that taking Hagrid away will not help in the slightest,” said Dumbledore. His blue eyes were full of a fire Harry had never seen before. “Look at it from my point of view,” said Fudge, fidgeting with his bowler. “I’m under a lot of pressure. Got to be seen to be doing something. If it turns out it wasn’t Hagrid, he’ll be back and no more said. But I’ve got to take him. Got to. Wouldn’t be doing my duty -” “Take me?” said Hagrid, who was trembling. “Take me where?” “For a short stretch only,” said Fudge, not meeting Hagrid’s eyes. “Not a punishment, Hagrid, more a precaution. If someone else is caught, you’ll be let out with a full apology -” “Not Azkaban?” croaked Hagrid.
The events of Prisoner of Azkaban I'll give Fudge a free pass for two reasons. In the area of Buckbeak, a different branch of the ministry is trying the Hippogriff so Fudge is letting them do their job. Also Dumbledore points out that without proof, like Pettigrew's body, they can't overturn Black's conviction. Thus the reason Fudge fails there. The rest of what you said is correct.
I would have said, "It's easy to be in charge when nothing's going wrong, and also when the perfect solution to all your problems is just one owl to Dumbledore away." Because he has Dumbledore do his job a LOT in the early books. I mean, I get why to a point, but come on!
1. You forgot book two. Hagrid was sent to Askaban 2. Was he even in charge with the buckbeak death? Love your videos! Thank you for the great contact!
I completely agree! I cannot deal with Fudge! I've been reading the series this year for the first time, I KNOW, let's move on from that point, but I was snapchatting my best friend after finishing Goblet of Fire and all I could say was "FUDGE IS THE WORST!" And after reading Order of the Phoenix I still thought Fudge is worst! I don't like Umbridge, obviously, but I don't think she's worse than Fudge. To be honest, I thought I would loath her because of the way people talk about her but I was actually disappointed because I thought she was going to be more brutal. BUT SO MUCH COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF FUDGE HAD DONE HIS JOB AND DONE THE RIGHT THING!! I'm still saying he's the worst, and then Peter Pettigrew- Peter Pettigrew is despicable and a scumbag... and then Umbridge.
Actually, I think we see the first hint of his character when he comes to arrest Hagrid in "Chamber of Secrets." He says that he has to be seen as doing something. I don't think that's just in the movie, but I don't have the book in front of me.
The one thing that always bothers me, is how everyone was up in arms at the fact that Harry used magic in the presence of a muggle, but why does it matter? Dudley was a member of his household, and obviously already knew about magic.
Yeah when a half-giant wizard shows up to tell Harry he’s a wizard it’s perfectly fine but when Harry performs magic around his cousin at night it’s suddenly a bad thing Like I understand the hover charm thing because the Dursleys had guests over who didnt know but there were no other muggles around when Harry cast his patronus. It was just him and Dudley
@@rainbowroadskids6482 Suppose it makes even less sense when you consider that, then. Because for all the Ministry knows Harry did the hover charm in front of Muggles who knew he was a wizard.
I. HATE. CORNELIUS. FUDGE. SO. F*****G MUCH. I just reread HP4 and him arguing with Dumbledore at the end of it makes me so much more angry than I remember being the other (several) times. I think I hate him so much because I don't believe he's evil, he doesn't even have any other motive for the shitty things he does other than his own INSECURITY, SELFISHNESS and FEAR. UGGGGHHH. Thank you for listening, lol. Love this video (obviously).
He's grown fond of power and like Bill said deep down he knows Dumbledore's a cleverer and greater man than he will ever be, but he can't bring himself to face the fact that Voldemort had returned and had grown fond of power and managed to convince himself that he's the clever one and Dumbledore's making up trouble for the sake of it, because he just can't bring himself to the fact Voldemort had returned.
Fudge wouldn't have survived being the modern day *UK* priminister if he was so worried about being a "laughing stock". I mean Theresa May and Brexit?!
0:53, also considering how quick to change how he viewed Harry, he was willing to almost laugh off him blowing up his Aunt but tried to get him expelled from school and risked his well being by letting dementors attack him just to force him to use magic outside of school in the presence of a muggle just to validate demonizing him. Also, he failed to realize Voldemort was still around even before he took his body back..........like in Harry’s first year..........or Harry’s second year with the memory in the diary. Had Dumbledore wanted the job he could have taken it, but as least some like Barty senior could have, though they seemed to have a false sense of security in Fudge. 4:16, their is a possibility that Fudge and the ministry denied Voldemort’s return was something Voldemort himself knew would happen and counted on. The fact that he returned during the time when the likes of Fudge was in charge seems kind of perfect for his planning. It meant that if he played his cards right, he would be able to abuse the weakness of this government to more easily assemble his army and prepare for his takeover.
Hey SuperCarlinBrothers! I've had a HP video idea for a few months now and it would be cool if you saw this comment. Even if you don't make a video about it, I still want to share it because it's a recurring theme that lots of fans gloss over. It's the topic of Dumbedore's Griffindor bias throughout the series. Between the ending of the Sorcerer's Stone with the last minute points addition just enough to win against Slytherin house to expelling Hagrid instead of Tom Riddle for opening the Chamber of Secrets, leading belief to try and keep other houses out of a prolonged rivalry between Slytherin and Griffindor. In addition, Newt Scamander was expelled for threatening a life with one of his beasts while Remus, James, and Sirius did the same thing using a student's werewolf status and barely got punished.
Michelle Burns Dumbledore wasn't headmaster when Newt or Riddle were in school, and when Newt was going to be expelled he argued strongly on Newt's behalf. I agree with you on the Sorcerer's Stone bias thing though.
Also, it is not clear since when Dumbledore had known that Sirius told Snape how the entrance at the whomping willow works. Maybe it was only as they already worked for the order that Dumbledore found out. Surely he would ask Snapes schoolmates everything about this person before using him as a double agent. But Dumbledore did not know that Sirius, Peter and James became animagi and walked around the school with a full grown werewolf or else he would have known that Sirius would be able to transfigure himself into an animal, so he thought that Remus would sit in the shack until he got human again. I wonder, why Remus never told anybody about Sirius being an animagus after his escape from Azkaban. But maybe it is just the "don't trust the werewolf" thing again.
while they weren't fans of half-bloods they didn't hate them, they hatted Muggle born aka mudbloods. But it like Nazi Aryan propaganda, but Hitler not being Aryan
the only wizards who knew Voldemort's real name and that he was half blood was Voldemort, Dumbledore, Slughorn and eventually Harry, who then in the final battle revealed to every witch and wizard still conscious (including any remaining death eaters) Voldemorts real name at that point any and every wizard or witch that had attended Hogwarts at the same time as him or taught him at Hogwarts finally learned he wasn't the pureblood he was making himself out to be the reason he managed to trick everyone that he wasn't Tom Marvolo Riddle is because after leaving Borgin and Burkes employ Tom Riddle had disappeared and when he returned years later as Voldemort no one could recognise him due to the Horcruxes he had already made having an effect on his appearance *edit* oh and atleast Half of the Death Eaters were either Werewolves, Giants or Half Bloods, there simply wasn't enough Pure Bloods in the 80s yet alone the 90s to fill an army with them
no he knew a tom riddle that was in Slytherin with him, but no one in the school knew of the other name he gave himself, Dumbledore even said that when Tom Riddle had returned he was totally unrecognisable. Dumbledore being the first person to meet him after his return (when he went to Hogwarts to hide the diadem and ask for the job Dippet had promised him), after this meeting Tom dropped the use of his name started using the name Voldemort and then proceeded to recruit all those he knew from school that shared his view that muggles and muggleborns were scum and beneath pure/half blood wizards. Avery was one of the group of "friends" Tom Riddle had that would later become one of the first Death Eaters, yes Avery and basically every "founding" Death Eater knew of Tom Riddle's Blood Status but none of them knew that Tom Riddle was Voldemort, if they did Bellatrix Lestrange would not have been as infatuated with him as she was, as the entire Black family teaching's is about how muggles, muggleborns and to a lesser extent Half Bloods were beneath them, hence why any Black family member that either married a muggle, muggleborn, halfblood or was born a squib was struck from the family tree I bring this up because Bellatrix, and her sister Narcissa, full heartedly believed and followed this teaching, and I can guarantee that if the original DE's knew of Voldemort's connection to Tom then Lucius would have told Narcissa (as he had met Tom Riddle in Hogwarts) who in turn would've told Bellatrix
sorry you still way off base, Riddles own SOUL told harry that he was using the voldermort name with his proto-death eaters in his 5th year. and was playing up his heir of slitherin status and warring movolo's ring even then [which would have required to explain his half-blood status given then all knew he had a muggle name and lived in a muggle orfanage] Dumbled dor staroty was the "General populus" of the wizarding world didn't know Riddle and voldermeot was one in the same, he didn't cliam the death eaters didn't know
I mean really, did his character come as any surprise, even from his introduction in the book? You had to know that he was going to be less than trustworthy. A politician named Fudge?
In my dreams......I imagined Fudge quietly sitting in a tavern, alone, after his impeachment......drinking a Firewhiskey.........wondering and saying to himself "What went wrong?" And the bartender, who overheard, says, "YOU ENTIRE CAREER, YA' &$%#@*$%!!!!!"

What I love about the Potter books is how JK Rowling illustrates Evil in ALL its forms and shows us how much damage a "lesser" evil can do. When I think of Fudge I am reminded of the very true quote: " All that is needed for Evil to flourish is for good men to sit back and do nothing".
Actually, Fudge first gives a hint of his true colors when he sends Hagrid to Azkaban which he also does to be seen as doing something. I am surprised you didn't quote Dumbledore in his heated conversation with Fudge in the hospital wing at the end of "Goblet of Fire." Dumbledore says it so eloquently - that love of the office has blinded him and that he could take action and be remembered as one of the bravest Ministers for Magic, or do what he does and be remembered as he will be: the one who stepped aside and let Voldemort gain power again. By the time Fudge is out at the beginning of "Half-Blood Prince" it's already too late: Voldemort has been able to manipulate set up the fall of the Ministry. Of course, Rufus Scrimgeour isn't a lot better - he too focuses on appearances - wanting Harry to be his poster boy. But is Fudge the worst? Well, worst what? Worst Minister for Magic? Perhaps, even likely. The worst person in the story? No, I think that still goes to Umbridge. Fudge is rather pathetic. He is a coward and is easily manipulated. But apart from his office, he doesn't really command any power. Umbridge, on the other hand, while she does take advantage of her position (and Fudge's manipulability) to gain and weild power, is resourceful on her own and quite prepared to torture people - even children - herself. Fudge is analogous to Wormtail, only unlike Pettigrew, he actually gets some power of his own. Still, he doesn't have real power in himself - inner power. He has to rely on bigger, better bullies. Pettigrew brings about the return of Voldemort to his body, but he is still personally weak, commanding less than zero respect. Likewise, Fudge did hire Umbridge, but she is the real powerhouse. He's just an enabler.
1:46 I don't get how Albus didn't know Sirius wasn't the secret keeper. Didn't he himself cast the fidelius charm? He should've known. Could you reply or make a theory on this? I can see it now, how Albus Dumbledore is manipulative.
Zhalia Riddle James and Lily kept the switch a secret so that way Voldemort couldn’t use occulmency (I probably spelt that wrong) to find out about the switch.
Its because James did not sacrifice himself for Lily. He never had the chance to sacrifice himself. Voldemort would have killed him no matter what. The reason he did not want to kill Lily was that Snape had begged him to spare her life. She was able to sacrifice herself because she was never supposed to die.
ES: This is one of my burning questions since the third book - why did Voldemort offer Lily so many chances to live? Would he actually have let her live? JKR: Mhm. ES: Why? JKR: [silence] Can't tell you. But he did offer; you're absolutely right. Don't you want to ask me why James's death didn't protect Lily and Harry? There's your answer - you've just answered your own question - because she could have lived - and chose to die. James was going to be killed anyway. Do you see what I mean? I'm not saying James wasn't ready to; he died trying to protect his family, but he was going to be murdered anyway. He had no - he wasn't given a choice, so he rushed into it in a kind of animal way. I think there are distinctions in courage. James was immensely brave. But the caliber of Lily's bravery was, I think in this instance, higher because she could have saved herself. Now any mother, any normal mother would have done what Lily did. So in that sense, her courage too was of an animal quality but she was given time to choose. James wasn't. It's like an intruder entering your house, isn't it? You would instinctively rush them. But if in cold blood you were told, "Get out of the way," you know, what would you do? I mean, I don't think any mother would stand aside from their child. But does that answer it? She did very consciously lay down her life. She had a clear choice. ES: And James didn't. JKR: Did he clearly die to try and protect Harry specifically given a clear choice? No. It's a subtle distinction and there's slightly more to it than that but that's most of the answer.
Ironic: between fifth and sixth book Fudge desperately tried to gain Harry's support in order to retain his position, even though he spent the entire fifth book smearing Harry, Dumbledore and their allies. He was really audacious. The most ironic fact is that Fudge wanted Harry to lie on his behalf.

There's not much fleshed out on this other than what the previous two posters said, (he was loyal to Dumbledore and was useful as he was well connected in the underworld). Not much to work with.
Yeah, every "good guys group" needs the token "dirty looking, mob connected weasel dude". It's almost a requirement, think of any fictional group like Order. Like how Dumbledore's army had Abelforth, like.
How is Umbridge=Bannon? Umbridge was a censor, and for all of Bannon's maaaany faults, that's not one of them. It's much easier to say that Umbridge is a statement against Progressivism's overreach.
No. Again, she's not censoring dissenting views. The main issue Democrats have with her has been that she isn't opposed to private alternatives to public education and her religious charitable work. For the party that must cater to teachers unions and has worked so hard to divorce itself from most all overt religious expression, this means that Betsy, regardless of her effectiveness or actual policy preferences, was always going to be a controversial figure among Democrats.
And as I expressed elsewhere, just because you believe Betsy and other political leaders to be fundamentally wrong in their politics and ideology does not mean they play the role of censor. It is possible for someone to be wrong and/or incompetent but not censorious or evil.

This is true. Hagrid is the sweetest ever.
Indeed, eschewing the practice "innocent until proven guilty" in order to save face was the first sign.

I completely agree. And he follows up by suggesting Madame Maxime was involved in the attack on Crum and Crouch just because she is part giant and was in the general area that the attack took place.
I ship Umbridge with a Dementor, I can’t wait for their first kiss :)

Who else thinks he was supposed to be a reference to Neville Chamberlain, the British prime minister who basically stood by while Hitler took land?
I could be wrong but I think J.K. Rowling has actually confirmed this.
In Chamberlain's defense would you really want to drag your country who was already traumatized by the last war 20 years earlier into yet another bloodbath
That would make sense since Voldemort is based on Hitter

It felt planned to me,as if he was actively helping Voldemort.
Yet when he speaks at Buckbeak's trial, Hagrid says they roll over and show their bellies, ignoring Hagrid's defense completely.
nahor88 they like dumbledore, they don’t care about hagrid

Here's the full passage:
“There is no need to stand guard over him anymore, Dumbledore!” she shrieked. “The Minister has seen to that!”
Harry had never seen Professor McGonagall lose control like this. There were angry blotches of color in her cheeks, and her
hands were balled into fists; she was trembling with fury.
“When we told Mr. Fudge that we had caught the Death Eater responsible for tonight’s events,” said Snape, in a low voice, “he
seemed to feel his personal safety was in question. He insisted on summoning a dementor to accompany him into the castle. He brought it up to the office where Barty Crouch -”
“I told him you would not agree, Dumbledore!” Professor McGonagall fumed. “I told him you would never allow dementors
to set foot inside the castle, but -”
“My dear woman!” roared Fudge, who likewise looked angrier than Harry had ever seen him, “as Minister of Magic, it is my decision whether I wish to bring protection with me when interviewing a possibly dangerous -”
But Professor McGonagall’s voice drowned Fudge’s.
“The moment that - that thing entered the room,” she screamed, pointing at Fudge, trembling all over, “it swooped down
on Crouch and - and -”
Harry felt a chill in his stomach as Professor McGonagall struggled to find words to describe what had happened. He did not need her to finish her sentence. He knew what the dementor must have done. It had administered its fatal kiss to Barty Crouch. It had sucked his soul out through his mouth. He was worse than dead.
“By all accounts, he is no loss!” blustered Fudge. “It seems he has been responsible for several deaths!”
“But he cannot now give testimony, Cornelius,” said Dumbledore.
*He was staring hard at Fudge, as though seeing him plainly for the first time. *
+
This. I think Fudge had the dementor get rid of Crouch because he had already decided not to believe that Voldemort was back.

Like the whole thing would have been soo much easier
why would it be illegal to have during testimonial you can make sure they aren't lying
Fair point
I suppose like in the case of when Voldemort convinces gaunt that he murdered the riddles
I mean, I think the first showing of Fudge's true colors is when in Chamber of Secrets when he imprisons Hagrid on no actual information but on mere rumor.
people aren't rational

humans react to kids in danger with extreme vitriol, had hagrid not been imprisoned at best there would've been riots

Actually he did that as a precaution incase anyone were to wrongfully think Hagrid was indeed the culprit and an uproar was caused.

To be fair he somehow convinces most of the wizarding world that Harry was a liar.
Rita Skeeta had spent the year lead up to this undermining Harry, point out (unstable and Paraslemouth to boot) and Percy was convinced simply by the exsitance of official policy.
Again, those two still convince the whole wizarding world except for those closest to Harry that Harry is a liar.
Gerald Grenier I would say that Percy agreed with Fudge more because he knew the rest of his family supported Harry’s view of the events, and he was in poor standing with them by the 4th and 5th books.

I wouldn’t say so, in OOTP when they were going to take Dumbledore to Azkaban fudge says
‘Or is there the usual simple explanation involving a reversal of time, a dead man coming back to life and a couple of invisible Dementors?’
Fudge didn't care. He was more worried about the polls. He's a politician.
@@youtubelife921 that's what Harry told him
@@klaudiagrob Fudge was too prideful in his own ways to be talked to about Sirius. Xil Rondo They knew he cast a Patronus Charm. So basically your telling me that they kept a close eye on him at that time, but at the time when they were against him they didn’t have a close eye on him?
@@3myr08 at that point they weren't keeping a close eye on him, they knew he cast a patronus because they were told so, and they knew he cast magic in general because of the trace
whether the trace can detect individual spells is...unknown but it doesn't really matter
they weren't (yet) actively spying on him , and they had no reason to believe dementors would randomly go and attack
it's why a huge part of WHY he got off was that someone at the trial secretly ordered (against the ministries wishes) the dementor to attack and forced the spell

Xil Rondo Ok.

And after reading Order of the Phoenix I still thought Fudge is worst! I don't like Umbridge, obviously, but I don't think she's worse than Fudge. Katie Grosvenor Didn't help all that much though.
Yeah when a half-giant wizard shows up to tell Harry he’s a wizard it’s perfectly fine but when Harry performs magic around his cousin at night it’s suddenly a bad thing
Like I understand the hover charm thing because the Dursleys had guests over who didnt know but there were no other muggles around when Harry cast his patronus. It was just him and Dudley
@@Boundwithflame23But the Ministry had no idea there were guests over.
@@rainbowroadskids6482 Suppose it makes even less sense when you consider that, then. Because for all the Ministry knows Harry did the hover charm in front of Muggles who knew he was a wizard.

I agree with you on the Sorcerer's Stone bias thing though.
battlegeese Yeah, you're right about that. Sorry for not getting my facts straight!
Michelle Burns it's chill
Actually no on the Newt thing. He was actually the one teacher that objected Newt get expelled.

I absolutely love how Death waters hate half bloods, yet their leader is one
while they weren't fans of half-bloods they didn't hate them, they hatted Muggle born aka mudbloods. But it like Nazi Aryan propaganda, but Hitler not being Aryan
the only wizards who knew Voldemort's real name and that he was half blood was Voldemort, Dumbledore, Slughorn and eventually Harry, who then in the final battle revealed to every witch and wizard still conscious (including any remaining death eaters) Voldemorts real name
at that point any and every wizard or witch that had attended Hogwarts at the same time as him or taught him at Hogwarts finally learned he wasn't the pureblood he was making himself out to be
the reason he managed to trick everyone that he wasn't Tom Marvolo Riddle is because after leaving Borgin and Burkes employ Tom Riddle had disappeared and when he returned years later as Voldemort no one could recognise him due to the Horcruxes he had already made having an effect on his appearance
*edit* oh and atleast Half of the Death Eaters were either Werewolves, Giants or Half Bloods, there simply wasn't enough Pure Bloods in the 80s yet alone the 90s to fill an army with them

no he knew a tom riddle that was in Slytherin with him, but no one in the school knew of the other name he gave himself, Dumbledore even said that when Tom Riddle had returned he was totally unrecognisable.
Avery was one of the group of "friends" Tom Riddle had that would later become one of the first Death Eaters,
yes Avery and basically every "founding" Death Eater knew of Tom Riddle's Blood Status but none of them knew that Tom Riddle was Voldemort, if they did Bellatrix Lestrange would not have been as infatuated with him as she was,
as the entire Black family teaching's is about how muggles, muggleborns and to a lesser extent Half Bloods were beneath them, hence why any Black family member that either married a muggle, muggleborn, halfblood or was born a squib was struck from the family tree
I bring this up because Bellatrix, and her sister Narcissa, full heartedly believed and followed this teaching, and I can guarantee that if the original DE's knew of Voldemort's connection to Tom then Lucius would have told Narcissa (as he had met Tom Riddle in Hogwarts) who in turn would've told Bellatrix
sorry you still way off base, Riddles own SOUL told harry that he was using the voldermort name with his proto-death eaters in his 5th year. and was playing up his heir of slitherin status and warring movolo's ring even then [which would have required to explain his half-blood status given then all knew he had a muggle name and lived in a muggle orfanage] Dumbled dor staroty was the "General populus" of the wizarding world didn't know Riddle and voldermeot was one in the same, he didn't cliam the death eaters didn't know

Hufflepuff is the best house. Not mine, but easily best house.
I always thought it'd turn out Fudge was a secret death eater or under the imperious curse by the end. Still not convinced he wasn't imperiused.
'The Other Minister' is literally one of my favourite chapters in the series.
My mom thinks it's the funniest scene of all as well.
In the military, they call "water-cooler talk" : "scuttlebutt" for at least in the Navy, it's what they call a water-fountain/cooler.
Umbridge was not even imprisoned after Fudge was removed as Minister of Magic
I'm pretty sure she didn't break any laws
She used the cruciatus curse.
TheBodyOnPC what crime did she do that they have proof of
Parker Tighe how about all the scares and witnesses of the children?
Reagan Orton and the use of a dark or cursed object that intentionaly draws blood from the victum and psychological abuse too.
Ravenclaws just like taking tests the most haha
As a ravenclaw this is correct
I mean really, did his character come as any surprise, even from his introduction in the book? You had to know that he was going to be less than trustworthy. A politician named Fudge?
SCB NOTIFCATION SQAUD, WHERE YOU AT?
HERE
Lumine here!!!
HEEEERE
Lumine yo!
Lumine HERE!!!
*Sigh* I kind of think Fudge cares more about his image then..well actually doing his job..?
KIND OF?!
He cares more about keeping his job than doing it.
You should make a theory on how the people from nightmare before Christmas people died.
"It's easy to be in charge when nothing's going wrong." ... Three years later that's taken on a whole new meaning.
his character frustrated me so much
i'm here for this cornelius fudge roast x
In my dreams......I imagined Fudge quietly sitting in a tavern, alone, after his impeachment......drinking a Firewhiskey.........wondering and saying to himself "What went wrong?" And the bartender, who overheard, says, "YOU ENTIRE CAREER, YA' &$%#@*$%!!!!!"
Harry: "Voldemort's back!"
Fudge: "FAKE NEWS!"
Of Romans and Greeks So, just like Harry, Trump has the truth on his side?
Glad we got that straightened out.
But you gotta admit, he has the best name
macn cheese No, Kingsley Shacklebolt has the best name.
Lol
FUDGE!!!!!
Lol
He is making me think of the chocolate fudge cake
I reluctantly agree lol
Me: 9searches on google) Are Narwhals real?
Google: Narwhals are real creatures of the Monodontidae family that inhabit the Arctic waters of Greenland, Canada, and Russia where they are spotted swimming in pods of twenty. There are about 170,000 narwhals in the world, which are classified as near threatened mostly thanks to human activities and global warming.
Me: Prove it now J

Zhalia Riddle James and Lily kept the switch a secret so that way Voldemort couldn’t use occulmency (I probably spelt that wrong) to find out about the switch.
ugh he did know, as in book 7 we see how albus took the cloak from james and that was in lilys letter
@@mksimms11 that was before they did the switch
The moment he sent Hagrid to Azkaban, never trusted him again. So glad I’m not the only one who blames Fudge for sssssooooo much lol.
"He Fudged-up Bad!!"
Pun intended.
(One of my favourite word-play by SCB)
Can you make a theory on why James sacrifice did not stop Lilly from die Ing
Maybe because there is no love like the love a parent has for their child?
Snape was the reason behind the many chances Voldemort gave her.
DrwafaAlsaleh yaasssssss
I've never been sure of my house. But now I know. I am a tried and true Slotherin.
Fudge showed his true colors in "The Chamber of Secrets," when he threw Hagrid in the torture chamber that is Azkaban without a trial.
Yeah. And that's because he didn't care about all those people dying, but only about maintaining his position as Minister of Magic.
Hi I love the channel, especially your theory videos. Can you make an Avatar The Last Airbender video? It has a huge fan base and I bet you could find some interesting things or explain some stuff in the universe
Definitely! Avatar is easily one of my favourite franchises ever.
Gun Are you talking about the series or The Last Airbender movie? Cause the movie was trash (I apologize if you liked it).
Asher McLaughlin not the movie bro .
angela ngobe Yeah I sure hope so... 😰
make a video about why Mundungus was in the order
wasnt it because he knew the seedy characters and the like?
he also owed dumbledore. probably felt the order was better than a stint at azkaban.
There's not much fleshed out on this other than what the previous two posters said, (he was loyal to Dumbledore and was useful as he was well connected in the underworld). Not much to work with.
+ pretty please
Yeah, every "good guys group" needs the token "dirty looking, mob connected weasel dude". It's almost a requirement, think of any fictional group like Order.
Like how Dumbledore's army had Abelforth, like.
I see what you did here.
Right?! Fudge = Trump, Death Eaters = Neo-Nazis! LOL
How is Umbridge=Bannon? Umbridge was a censor, and for all of Bannon's maaaany faults, that's not one of them. It's much easier to say that Umbridge is a statement against Progressivism's overreach.
sandiman21 wouldn't Betsy Devos be Umbridge?
I have always thought barty crouch jr needed more screen time. I would love to hear more on that
I guess you could say Fudge really fudged up :D
I love that Sloth/Slytherin pillow!

Reason: He HIRED UMBRIGE?!?!
