Adam tries a Laser Engraver - Wood Ring, Master Sword Triforce / Banggood 1600mw Blue Burner

  • In this video, I test out a 1.6w (1600mw) blue Laser Engraver. Banggood sent me one to review. See the links below for more details. To make it work you need to download the Benbox software on a PC. The software is available for free. It does not run on a Mac yet. The ring and sword came out perfect. Better than I could do by hand.
The laser I used is discontinued but here's the newer model with a more powerful laser and larger working area: www.banggood.com/custlink/mvv...

Hey I saw your channel and I showed my father it. We watch almost all of your videos together and it really helps me get closer with my dad. We recently moved houses and we had to give up all of our tools because we were short on money so now we are trying to rebuild our workshop!

I have been excited ever since I Saw your channel. I have made about 10 veneer rings since I watched your tutorial. The first five were mediocre, but then I got a nice pack of wood veneer, and some CA glue, and now they look good enough to gift!
Thank you for giving me something to do to cure my summer restlessness

My son and I SAW your ring making video and are in the process of trying out our own Veneer rings. We are also in the process of making the link sword with no power tools as well. I look forward to all of your projects so that my son and i can have new things to try and learn together.

Your point about keeping ‘settings notes’ is ESSENTIAL!!! I have a much more powerful laser engraver/cutter system and have notebooks full of settings information for different materials and projects. Unless you want to waste material each time you want to start a project, keep notes for power settings, travel speed, air flow, laser kerf, box joint clearances, etc. Great video. I’ve been wanting something less powerful / more portable and this looks like a great solution. I have been wasting my 60 watt laser on projects that don’t require anywhere near that power. I manufacture my own PCB’s and this looks like it would work perfectly. Thanks for the great demonstration!

Adam, I just watch this video, I came across it randomly via UA-cam. Great work. I really like how you explain and show everything. I am looking to build this laser kit this winter as my winter hobby project for cutting foam board to cut out RC Airplane parts. This is the best review I have seen on the Laser. Thank you.

Suggestion for lining up precise pieces like the cube:
Have another file with the same cube dimensions that just cuts the outline of the square. Engrave the square onto a piece of cardboard or MDF. Then you can place the cube right on top of the engraved square for perfect alignment!

Awesome work Adam, I have the exact same laser. more recently I had problems with it being very erratic and not pulsing the laser off between cuts (laser would stay on) and noticed the main laser MOSFET (large transistor) on the main board getting VERY hot. I found that it was getting so hot it was desoldering itself off the board!. What I did was resolder the legs down and replaced the arduino NANO with a new one (better quality) and re-flashed the firmware. it now runs better then new, smother steps and seems to be a more solid unit now. I'm looking to do modifications down the track by using larger aluminum rails and longer belts to get a larger surface cut and also adjusting the laser to hang under the Y axis to alleviate the 'offset' of the laser, giving me more room to cut. I look forward to following the rest of your videos using this machine. (can't wait for a more user-friendly option to benbox to be released, as I feel your pain with some of the options and how clunky it can be... it doesn't like large and detailed DXF files I have found.) look me up at www.wastedprops.com for some of my work. keep up the great videos. I've been considering getting once of these for a long, long time and your video sold me. I see from the end of this video that you really like this versatile saw. It reminds me of a similar saw that I had seen in a hardware store, except that one lacked the multi-directional capability of the saw I had just seen in you video, though both were made over seas, which was obviously an oversight in design as plainly can be seen by anyone that saw your video, see?

  • @doomin8tor

Concerning the questions on wood finishing with Super Glue. Pen turners have been using C/A finish for quite some time and have learned many tips and tricks. Take some time and review some of their videos. Do not use cloth when applying a C/A finish that is very bad advise. Blue paper towels are better than white paper towels, yet can still be problematic. A nitrite glove or plastic bag slipped over a finger works best IMHO.
For a better super glue finish, you want to build your finish by using multiple coats. On a turned wood ink pen I sand to 600 grit, then use between 9-15 coats of thin C/A. Multiple layers gives you a very durable base that you can sand and polish.I then use Micro mesh from 1500 grit to 12000 grit for final sanding. Last step is to use an acrylic polish.
If you have gone to great lengths to create a wonderful product, take the extra time to give it a proper finish.

The reason the super glue smokes is because there is a chemical in most paper towels that speeds up the curing of the super glue. Blue shop paper towels doesn't do that and that is what I use when applying a superglue finish to the pens I turn on a wood lathe.
