Great advice! Many stylists focus only on the body shape but not that much on proportions between upper and lower body!
So true! And it's just as important. Glad you liked the video :)
The pain and trouble of having a long torso
I hear you! But I love the fact that my long torso allows me to wear thick belts. I feel like they add a really interesting look to an outfit.
This was so helpful. I'm only 5"1' and recently found out I was long waisted. Mind blown. But it explained why I looked horrible in my clothes, especially because even "petite" tops are too long for me. I'll try your scarf trick because it's too hot where I live to wear jackets or sweaters.
Glad you liked it Kathleen!
if petite tops are too long for you then you are short waisted. if you were long waisted then the petite top would be too short. I'm long waisted and I try to buy tops for tall people cause it will fit me normally, while petite would be cropped on me
Thank you for the opi belt tip, I didn't know that one! Empire waist dresses have always been my friend. They're my favorite style of a dress, whether long or short.
Love my obi belt for this!
i want to dress up like my friends, want to dress up the way i want! wanted to wear my new clothes but when i try it on i dont have any confidence to go out.eventually from my backside i butt is too low..there are many times i just cry it becoz of my long torso and short legs..but theres nothing i can do!i dont know why God made me like this
I thought I was the only one who always ended up crying after trying the clothes I wanted to wear but couldn't 💔
Thank you! 🙏
This was very helpful!

Sarah, thank you for sharing this video! You are a wardrobe genius! I have a long torso, short legs, and a long neck as well so I am always looking for fashion advice on how to do a little styling magic to make my proportions more pleasing to my own eyes. I have never heard of a "gilet" before but now I want to find or sew one! Thanks again. I'm going to check out your other videos. Also, for future videos, any advice on how to style tops and accessories for a very long neck would be much appreciated! Cheers. x
Thank you so much Soren. I'm delighted you found value in this video. I love your suggestion of for another video and I will add it to my list. Watch this space! :)
This is the exact reason I came searching and found this video... Short legs , long torso and neck
Thanks for the advice! Greetings from Chile!
Thanks for watching! Hugs from Ireland 💚
Oh my goodness! The obi belt trick! I need to find one now . . .
It's one of my favourite tricks! I get so much wear out of mine! I hope you find one! 💕
Bringing back chivalry to the Knight , and the ladies curtsey traditions. The ladies castle doctrine dress codes. And the beautiful etiquette of Sarah.

@@sarahryanthestylecoach Sarah consider this book titled : dressing with dignity. Published by TAN books and publishers. That book is geared toward women, but there is information that is very important to study within that book. And our Lady of good success May be a blessing to you.
Thank you for the super helpful tips! Can you share who makes the lovely cream gilet you're wearing?
I'm glad you found them helpful. The gilet is a few years old from Zara but they come out with a variation of it every year. 😊
Cool tips.
I have long torso.
My issue is not the front because front is easy to conceal for long torso. My problem is my back/butt side (i have an okay size butt) because even if you’re i’m using super high waisted jeans/trouser, you can’t conceal the height of the butt cheeks.
(Also, can’t wear high heeled shoes, uggghhh).
oyThanks for that, I am 5ft 9in tall, but my length is in the body, not the legs. I can wear regular length trousers, but jumpsuits, for instance, are never long enough in the boe dy and act like a cheese slice, very uncomfortable! I worked out all the tips you give here, over a lifetime myself. One other thing is, I find I can't wear a very long coat, even though tall, as it tends to lengthen the body even more, making my legs look shorter. I prefer an above knee length coat as that gives the impression of longer legs coming out from under it, especially if they are not too wide trousers. I do wear wide linen trousers in summer, but well over the shoes and a high waisted style.
Sounds like you've made some great observations for your body shape! Nicely done!
With short legs I am frustrated with many skirts right now ending mid-shin. I feel like it always makes my legs look shorter. I definitely prefer if they start at the waist and end above the knee so you can see much of my legs
Sounds like you have a good understanding of what works for you. Keep doing what feels right!
Just found your channel. Good tips especially the long scarf one. It’s frustrating that a lot of the advice for long torsos conflicts with the advice for inverted triangles (eg don’t wear anything cropped, wear light/bright bottoms, etc) and I’m wondering what options I have left when I combine both?
Thanks for watching! Yes I know what you mean. This is where you will really benefit from having a 1:2:1 consultation in terms of body shape. Not everyone fits neatly into the 5 body shapes and so bespoke advice is needed. I offer this service online if you are interested :)
You look beautiful 💖 THANKS for the video, this was perfect for my body 👍
You're so welcome! Thank you :)
Great I need to try the obi belt trick!! Thanks for helping me up level my wardrobe!
Where did you get your gorgeous silky twist top that you wear at the opening of the video?
Hi Jessica, thanks for watching. I'm only seeing your comment now! My silky top is from Karen Millen. I think it's quite an old one as I bought it pre-loved!
Thanks for asking my question :), I have the same body type :(.
I have this body type with extra knock knee
I have the opposite --short torso and long leg and bonus I am petite and designers think petites always have the opposite type.
I have a video on this too! 😊
Are those heeled motorcycle boots that you're wearing at the beginning?
They are indeed! :)
What brand was the top you were wearing in the intro?
It's from Karen Millen :)
I've a long torso and short legs but at the same time I'm a rectangular body type on the fuller side.
So is it okay to wear high waisted straight jeans?
The first thing I would say is if you love them then wear them, that is the most important thing. Secondly, I would try adding some more fluid material to the top half if you would like to add the illusion of curves.
😘 lovely
Thank you!
The problem is i have a fat belly and a rough knee nothing matches me...😭😭😭
With the skinny silhouette i find only long tops work - i liked the top untucked
I love all kinds of belts
☺️💕
I really like your black pants just i belt so that it doesn't fall off advice for you look prettier ?????Please answer me kindly ???????????
I hate my body i have short leg😢
I'm sorry to hear you hate your body. I wonder is there any way you can begin to accept your body the way it is? There are things that we cannot change physically about ourselves. What is in your control to change?
Can i have longer legs😢?
Nope! But you can make your legs look longer!
Thank you so much. I have big hips and boobs but not quite an hourglass. In short a pear shape with big boobs as soon as I wear a short top with midwash jeans it highlights the thigh area. Thankfully your tips on layering and scarves have helped.
I'm so delighted to hear this Heather. Thank you for watching and for being here. Have a wonderful weekend! Sarah
