Would love to know if you find any on-trend pants and jeans with rises that would be considered low-rise by today's standards. I just can't take having the waist band of pants and jeans coming up above the band of my bra when I sit down anymore- it's ridiculously uncomfortable!
I would love love to see more building outfits from existing clothes we have or adding one or two new pieces in (like if you got a PR piece to show off or if you recently purchased something fabulous). For instance you can wear this one pair of pants three ways OR pair this blazer+ this jean + this trainer for a day time look and switchboard the shoes for evening. Other bloggers do this but not for us short torso gals:). I’d love to be able to build a wardrobe I love using your rules!!!!
I would love to know your leg length and short torso length in inches, so I can compare my dimensions when trying to find clothes. Also, do you buy petite jackets or regular? Regular length pants vs. long? When wearing tanks, do you shorten the straps? These are the kinds of issues I run into when trying to buy clothes. And lastly swimsuits, ( I almost always have to buy petites and really small to fit right, no bikinis for this mom) I could really use some help in this area! Thank you for your videos, they are so helpful
I have one! Please make a video about short torso verse short waisted. I just watched a video from pettite dressing about how the two could be the same or different. Someone could have a long torso but then a high waist causing them to look shorter torso than they really are. And the opposite could be true too. Someone could have a short torso but their hips fall lower on their their torso making a longer torso effect. It's like the rise of a jean. She explains it way better in the video way better than I did here. For me I know that I have a moderate length torso but my hips are very high on that torso making me look a lot more shorter waisted or shorter torso than really I am. I'm wondering what you think about this this topic. And how to tell if you have one or the other. how different styling tips would be if they are different or would the same rules apply.

A lot of your rules were my rules, only I didn't know why. Your videos have been so helpful for understanding why certain clothes do or don't look good on me. Thank you!
This style advice is absolutely fantastic. I’ve been watching different style channels and wondering why certain clothing combinations didn’t work on my body so thank you for explaining it from the context styling of a short torso! Exactly what I needed.
I am so happy you mentioned the slit on the skirt. I am 5 foot and always realized that showing one or both legs form a skirt or a maxi dress look great on my figure!
Hi JB! I loved the comment/reminder about making these rules for yourself…that we ultimately dress for ourselves and what makes us feel confident. I find it almost funny, how obsessed I am and how hard I work to elongate the look of my torso and then see so many women with long torsos happily style super high rise pants that come up to an inch or two of their bust “to make their legs look longer”…we’re all fighting different battles in our heads, haha.
I wished I had seen this a long time ago! I had to buy a lot of bad choices before I figured this all out. Years of trying to wear things that I like that did nothing for me! I have figured all these things out the hard way. Thank you for making it simple.
I’m so happy I found your channel! 🎉 Sixty y/o+ here and I’ve been struggling all my adult life with my clothes selections. Some outfits look great on my short torso long legs, and others look horrible! I’ve bought and given away a ton of clothes. You have it figured out!! Now maybe I can make smarter purchases and look better when I get dressed for my day. ❤
I’m 5’3” short waisted with DD breast…I wear a very supportive wired bra and primarily v or scooped neck (otherwise I look so broad across the chest). I also primarily dress in monochrome. Any other suggestions?
Girlfriend wear neutral color shoes for summer and never cropped jeans, pants. I actually wear my pants/jeans a bit long for a taller look and I’m 5’5” 181lbs 44D .
I have the same problem and I feel like the rules definitely change when you have a larger bust!! Especially with dresses! I bought a minimizer bra and it made a huge difference for me in being able to wear different tops, but I would love advice on a minimizer that doesn't push your breasts to the side! It is quite frustrating trying to figure it all out! I feel like I look so much heavier than I really am!:(
@@nursepj6036 Wow thanks for your comment, you described me exactly! I look even boxier/broader with a large bust and def have to be careful with dressing so as not to look matronly. *sigh*
SO many great tips....Yes, please write a book, I'd buy it today. Love your videos so much but having all this advice in one handy volume would make it easy to take shopping, and to keep open while dressing for the day. Loved your little wink at the end, almost as much as your Corgi....Grateful for you, your 3 years of contributing all this wonderful content and for how real you keep it !
Such a wonderful, video. These are all the unconscious rules I pretty much have intuitively scoped out to navigate my short torso. I’m a tall girl but curvy and have a short torso which makes keeping those long lines challenging. I don’t follow trends… I follow what looks good and proportionate on my body.
Great advice. I love the ankle pant tip and the vertical contrast tip. I have a tummy so that interferes with wearing tighter tops on their own. :(. But there are ways around that.
Brilliant. I have long legs and a short torso and really never gave lengthening my torso. Any thought. I will definitely take your advice on some of this, some of it just came intuitively but a lot of it didn't. I could just throw in one other tip for short torso people, don't buy paper bag wasted pants!
So glad you’re showing these tips, again! I’m watching this video twice! So many ways to help me dress for my long legs! Short torso rule breakers! Great idea! Thank you!
I'm only 4 minutes in and now I understand why I always wanted tops with thicker straps and long sleeves even though spaghetti strap tops look so cute on other people. I just learned what a short waist actually is and I feel like I unlocked a new skill tree
Had to watch this twice. Thanks for the time stamps, it made my note taking easier. And yes, I always tuck my top--bloated or not bloated. Thanks for this video :)
Finally found you and now I know why the rules for rectangular bodies don’t work for me!! Thanks so much! Would love to see how to wear scarves For short torso long legs!!
I just discovered your content and I looove your channel! So many helpful tips for my short little torso! I love the idea of making style rules for oneself. I have a short torso and long legs, but my legs (especially my thighs) are quite muscular and "chunky". So my preference is to maintain elongation in my legs so that the width is more balanced. But then also elongate my torso. 😉 Thank you for explaining the rationale behind your choices in such great detail. It's really making me think about what I want to achieve and how I could go about making some style rules for myself!
Thank you so much for this video! Definitely saving this one so I can refer back to it. Excellent advice from start to finish and your explanations are spot on. I, too, am a tucker and always wear an underwire bra. Please keep creating content! If you write a book, I will buy it. And your dog is adorable 😊
Love this video! So very helpful. I also watched the one you linked even though I had seen it before. More videos on short torso jeans pants dresses skirts tops and costumes would be fantastic. So hard to find good mid rise dark blue jeans!
Just discovered your channel and I’m a new subscriber. This is VERY useful information for this short torso woman. I’m definitely taking your advice in moving forward with a better wardrobe ❤❤❤
Oh thank goodness I found you!!! I always have struggled with styling my short torso, you have made some excellent rules......many of them I have followed without really knowing why or even recognizing why they worked so well for me.. Now that I've found you, I'm going back to search for more of your content. Love, love, love it.....keep up the good work for us with a short torso!!
THANK YOU for your short torso videos! I know what body shape I have based on the math, but there has been something off when I try to dress to my type. I knew I had a short torso but integrating that consideration deliberately into my fashion choices is a game changer. I greatly appreciate your tips and tricks and have immediately put some into play. And it's helping me better define why some things just don't work so I can just say no.
thank you SO MUCH for this so many of these tips are never mentioned in other videos so this is really really useful especially since you also share how to break them
I just tried a blouse that goes right up to my neck and I can’t believe how much more balance I have because of the larger block of colour on my short torso…amazing…I would love to see you address COLOR. What do you think about wearing colours that are right for your hair and skin? Neutrals can wash me out with my blonde hair and fair skin…but its a challenge to find the right top in the right colours.
Awesome video as usual! I now understand why i can’t always belt a dress or cardigan. My waist falls too high. So if you follow Kibbe body type I have a soft dramatic and the advice is to highlight the waist. I’ll try the tips about highlighting the waist but then raising the neckline to try to balance it. If you have other ideas perhaps we could have a video on wearing wrap dresses, jumpsuits, belted cardigans other items where the belt looks too high on us shortTorso folks!
Thank you so much! just today I figured out I was a short torso lady because I though well... my hips are really high so that means my torso is short, that might be why I sometimes look kinda squished in certain clothes! watching your video opened my eyes! will try these from now on
I cannot tell you how helpful this advice is. I only recently found out I have a short torso and have been struggling. I've read you should wear vnecks but most vnecks on me end up waay too low, does having a short torso affect this? Thank you again, I'm about to go binge all your videos now 😊
I would like to see a what I wore this week (M-Fri) video. If you could show your initial thought for an outfit then kick it up a notch explaining how you made corrections with clothes, shoes and jewelry to look your best. Thank you.
First time I see your video and I appreciate all the tips. I woukd however like to know how you determine or describe what is a "short torso". Your proportions look perfect to me!
I have a long neck and short torso like you. I love high neck tops too and always tuck in my tops (half or full). Vertical contrast!! I'm going to be paying more attention to this now that I am aware of it.
Hello from Italy! So glad I came across your videos… I also have a short torso and I unconsciously followed the same “rules”. Now I know why! We also happen to have the same figure (not quite though, I’m 5”4’ 32E and a 6) but still I can look you up to see what looks good on me 😊 I’d also like to share a couple of tricks I use, maybe you know them already, but still… One is to put a belt the same color of your shirt, to elongate the torso. The other one is to wear a Twilly around your neck to balance spaghetti straps. I say a Twilly to point out the shape of the scarf, it doesn’t matter if it’s not Hermes 😅 I just bought one at Mango, for 6 euros, and it does the trick.
I love your videos Jules: it seems as if you had found the exact styling rules my body needs. It's so helpful! Unconsciously I was already applying many of them buy not knowing why. It makes so much sense now! Thanks thanks thanks
I'd love a skirt series, and how to wear them. I've been tucking my shirts more and more, but I have a large chest with a short torso, and I often feel fatter because they hang off my chest. Even with quirks, not giving up trying to dress my body better.
Just discovered this channel. I love the tip of wearing a higher neck too with a higher rise pant. Some good stuff here. I agree about the underwire bra too. Thanks.
I somehow stumbled upon your channel today and WOW! I am so excited. I am pretty good at styling my shorter torso but I love getting new ideas or new ways to think about this topic. And, it SO nice not to hear advice (I am 5'3) petites should always elongate their legs. My legs are PLENTY long, it's my torso that makes e a petite. Someone GETS it! Yay!🤣
Just discovered your channel and I found it fascinating. Great content. Some of the things you suggested make my skin crawl. Lol. I’m going to do your tips and try to get over my issues. I have a pudgy stomach and I stopped wearing my tops tucked in a long time ago. So we’ll see if I can pull it off. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing ! I had been wondering why i don't feel comfortable in some clothing. I literally feel like my legs are too far away and the proportions are off. Now I know what I have been doing wrong. Literally everything 😂
I enjoyed this video. Thank you! I recommend checking into the Kibbe body types. I started dressing better after discovering I’m a “Flamboyant Natural” and my high waist/long legs are no longer as challenging.
This video was great. Some of these rules I was already instinctively following, but I still didn't understand why certain lengths and cuts looked good or bad on me. For instance I always thought the reason high rise wide-leg pants look weird on me was because I wasn't slim enough, or that my hips were always too wide. Now I that I understand it's just my innate vertical proportions I feel a lot better.
This is very interesting thank you for this video. Personally, one of my main my short-torso rule has always been never tucking in my tops. I am very short (150cm) and tucking in my tops makes me look like a kid. I also share the underwire bra rule with you, it really does help!! wearing high-rise pants is usually a no for me because they actually meet with my underboob lol I always found that so annoying
This is so helpful! Thank you! I'm glad you started posting again, this is so helpful to me. I can't always tell what exactly is making my outfits look off, and all I get from my partner is that I look "fine" in anything and my family think every issue I have is that I'm just too fat ☠️ Also love your little dog behind you, with our opposite body type and that long-suffering look 😂
I always tuck in my tops and never wear pants that are too long. I’m both short in height and very short-waisted. If I wear a long top hanging out, or puddling pants, it looks like my legs are really short, too. Good tips, thanks.
Thank you so much for this! I am new to your channel and absolutely love your content. Do you have any tips/can you do a video on a high rise body shape? I am 5’5 with a short and high waist but not really “all legs” because my rise is very long (ie bodysuits never fit properly). I appreciate any tips❤
You made me completely rethink things once I knew my VERTICAL proportions so thank you! But I am the opposite of you (long torso, short legs) and I wish you made videos for us too
I love your videos! They are so extremely helpful! For so long, I've struggled to style my short torso though I had an intuitive sense of what looked good/ what didn't. For reference, I am 5'6", 110 pounds, 32C, and have had 2 babies (so not quite as slim at the waist as previously), an undefined waistline and narrow hips. I am an inverted triangle and find that some of the inverted triangle advice and short torso advice can be at odds with each other (for e.g, most A-lines are to weighted looking and hide my long legs). Another example, deep Vs and scoop necks are recommended for inverted triangles whereas not so much for short torso. I find they work ok in draping styles (like the Aritzia Wilfred Sabine dress--which also has the benefit of being short). But this may not work for a short torso pear or hourlglass shape. Would you consider doing a video on how to integrate the two? Thanks!
i do most of these. Great video. My personal rules. I never show the button on my pants or wear high waisted pants. Soft tuck your top making sure you’re covering the waist line elongates the torso. I also like to have it untucked in the back depending on the top in question. Especially if you like a v neck. Wearing pants that show your ankles is a major key as well. And I find crew necks don’t work for me. But I love a mock turtle neck or full turtle neck. Or a V neck. And no heavy/bulky shoes. ❤
i actually have a balanced torso-legs proportion, but i am super busted and very curvy, and due to that, i love high waisted pants, but this combination with the bust, makes me look like I have a short torso... I dont plan in abandon my high waisted pants nor reduce my breast, so I use your tips and style my body as if it had a short torso. Thank you for your amazing tips. Xx from brazil
I have observed that there are differences in torso proportions…ie some are longer between neck and bust while others are longer between busy and hip. Have you ever addressed that? I need to watch this more than once. Good video! ❤
You are correct. My mom is a dressmaker and according to her, people are high, med or low busted referring to where the bust is on the torso. So many variations!
This is so interesting. My body type and frame is basically the same as yours (which is why I’m following, ha!), I’m just older (early 40’s) and now have a slight apple proportion thrown in to my formerly totally rectangular/soft hourglass shape. I’m also 5’3” so technically petite but built like my 6ft mom. Anyway, I’m thinking it’s my 5’3” height that makes me want to wear high rise with long inseam (long for me… hitting my heel). My all-time favorite pair of jeans (which looked great when I was 20 and now look just as great at 40) is a high rise flare with an inseam that skims the floor (but no puddling). I like to wear both flats and heels with this. It makes me look taller and gives me proportionate curves. Of course, all through my 30’s, I couldn’t wear this because skinny jeans were the thing and seemingly the only thing. So I had to figure those out. You are so right that higher necklines help balance, and I do notice that I use higher necklines (or longer sleeves) with my high rise, longer inseam pants. The struggle I’ve had with high rise, shorter inseam pants is that now that I have slightly thicker waistline, it emphasizes that a bit. Also, yes to tucking in… I have to play with the rise of my pants, but I’m finding tucking in at least partially is good. (I also do the elastic waist trick to place waistlines just so!). Back when not tucking in was THE thing, I wore low rise pants and used the untucked shirt with lower neckline to elongate. But I’m glad the styles have shifted. Anyway, that’s a long comment… it’s neat to see that maybe I was on to something with some of these tips.
Short torso's are on the cusp of being the next body-trend are y'all excited?! 😅 Jk, body trends are dumb but I'm just surprised we finally get a turn lol
I agree with tucking in the tops for our body time… especially a partial tuck. I steer away from high neck tops because I have a small short neck, big breasts and a small waist.. I look better with a square neck or scoop neck
I 5'0" so wide leg pants look awful on me. I did manage to find a pair of petite flare leg jeans that are perfect. I wear them with heels and platform sandals.
I actually disagree, wide legged pants can look super flattering on us petites, you should watch dearly Bethany for examples on how to do it (though she has a long torso so not all tips will be as applicable as this channel). The problem with being short with a short torso is personally I have zero waist, despite being slim I look blocky through my middle. The most flattering pants I’ve found are structured wide legged pants with pleats at the top. The pleats come into the waist at a diagonal, giving the illusion of a smaller waist and larger hips, and the extra fabric that comes from being wide legged pants flares out over my hips. The contrast between a tight waist and a silhouette that gets larger as it gets closer to the floor means my body looks much more hourglass shaped, and hides how small my torso is. When combined with a tight, slight puff sleeve to add weight to my shoulders I notice my waist looks much smaller in comparison, and I look much taller due to the visual mass being at the top and bottom of my body.
It's been TOO LONG since I made a short torso video like this. What others do you want to see (or want me to update)?
Would love to know if you find any on-trend pants and jeans with rises that would be considered low-rise by today's standards. I just can't take having the waist band of pants and jeans coming up above the band of my bra when I sit down anymore- it's ridiculously uncomfortable!

I cannot tell you how helpful this advice is. I only recently found out I have a short torso and have been struggling. I've read you should wear vnecks but most vnecks on me end up waay too low, does having a short torso affect this? Thank you again, I'm about to go binge all your videos now 😊
Yes! V necks can be trickier for some short torsos. It also depends on what you style them with
I would like to see a what I wore this week (M-Fri)
video. If you could show your initial thought for an outfit then kick it up a notch explaining how you made corrections with clothes, shoes and jewelry to look your best.
Thank you.
I did one a couple months ago! 😄 ua-cam.com/video/tTTW7qE3LGM/v-deo.html
First time I see your video and I appreciate all the tips. I woukd however like to know how you determine or describe what is a "short torso". Your proportions look perfect to me!
Thank you! You’ll want to watch this video for that answer 🙂 ua-cam.com/video/7OTHjC0gdYY/v-deo.html
We also happen to have the same figure (not quite though, I’m 5”4’ 32E and a 6) but still I can look you up to see what looks good on me 😊
I’d also like to share a couple of tricks I use, maybe you know them already, but still…
One is to put a belt the same color of your shirt, to elongate the torso.
The other one is to wear a Twilly around your neck to balance spaghetti straps. I say a Twilly to point out the shape of the scarf, it doesn’t matter if it’s not Hermes 😅 I just bought one at Mango, for 6 euros, and it does the trick.
i love that the dog is just chill
Wow, that is exactly I am doing as I have very short torso too. I am super happy that I have chosen the right outfit for me 😍
Love this video and how you explain your rules and rule breaking. I'm taking notes!🤍🤍
Levi's dad jeans low rise wide leg work really well!
Great rules to consider even for those with even proportions. Love your hair, tutorial please😊
Thanks! Been getting a few requests for that so maybe soon!
Could you make a video with a short waist and short legs? I have this
I love your videos Jules: it seems as if you had found the exact styling rules my body needs. It's so helpful! Unconsciously I was already applying many of them buy not knowing why. It makes so much sense now! Thanks thanks thanks
You’re so so so welcome!!!
I'd love a skirt series, and how to wear them. I've been tucking my shirts more and more, but I have a large chest with a short torso, and I often feel fatter because they hang off my chest.
Even with quirks, not giving up trying to dress my body better.
It’s old but try this! ua-cam.com/video/Du22DJ4ZK1Q/v-deo.html
Just discovered this channel. I love the tip of wearing a higher neck too with a higher rise pant. Some good stuff here. I agree about the underwire bra too. Thanks.
Thanks!
Yay!🤣
Yay!! This makes my day 😄
Just discovered your channel and I found it fascinating. Great content. Some of the things you suggested make my skin crawl. Lol. I’m going to do your tips and try to get over my issues. I have a pudgy stomach and I stopped wearing my tops tucked in a long time ago. So we’ll see if I can pull it off. Thanks!
Trying doesn't mean you have to wear it forever. Style is rarely perfect the first try! Good luck and have fun!
Your dog is so cute. Great Video!
Thanks for sharing ! I had been wondering why i don't feel comfortable in some clothing. I literally feel like my legs are too far away and the proportions are off. Now I know what I have been doing wrong. Literally everything 😂
I just found you today!!! Hallelujah!!! I'm as old as fire but fit is very important for me.💖
@JulesBeth I love your video's and I learn a lot, but seriously, your dog is a Rock Star!!!
He thinks he’s a star too! 😆😆
I enjoyed this video. Thank you! I recommend checking into the Kibbe body types. I started dressing better after discovering I’m a “Flamboyant Natural” and my high waist/long legs are no longer as challenging.
I've tried and got confused! It was a few years ago so maybe it's time to try again...
Omg I’m five foot with long legs and a short torso! Love these points! Great tips.
So incredibly helpful, thank you!!!
This is so helpful! Thank you! I'm glad you started posting again, this is so helpful to me. I can't always tell what exactly is making my outfits look off, and all I get from my partner is that I look "fine" in anything and my family think every issue I have is that I'm just too fat ☠️
Also love your little dog behind you, with our opposite body type and that long-suffering look 😂
I always tuck in my tops and never wear pants that are too long. I’m both short in height and very short-waisted. If I wear a long top hanging out, or puddling pants, it looks like my legs are really short, too. Good tips, thanks.
What about belts for short torso? Yes or no?
I love love love the outfit at 3:06!!!
Revolutionary! You are amazing! A book? 🎉 I would buy it!
😉😉😉
You made me completely rethink things once I knew my VERTICAL proportions so thank you! But I am the opposite of you (long torso, short legs) and I wish you made videos for us too
I’ve been hesitant because I can’t speak from experience. But you’re not the first to ask! Maybe I’ll reconsider
I just discovered your channel and this is so excellent!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
I love this video! ❤ thank you
First time watching you. Love, love this video. Perfect for my body type. Thanks!
Omggg I have that jacket from Lulu's! I absolutely love it. And it looks great on you. :)
It's so great! Mine's starting to fade in spots so I may need to buy another one soon
Got any tips for someone with a short torso and long legs who also has high hips and is very tall?
These tips are great, thank you! And your doggie is adorable.❤️
Thanks! He loves being the center of attention
Thanks!
Love these rules and style!
Love watching your video, it's very helpful. thank you so much for doing this. please continue
Will do!! 😉
Thank you for the tips. Could you please do a video on shoes
Sure thing!
i do most of these.
Xx from brazil
also, your dogs is sooooo cute
Love all this!! And he knows it allll too well lol
I learned a lot from this one video, thank you!❤
So useful! Going to have to watch several times to burn in my brain. thk you. Sincerely, Short-waisted and short torso challenged.
I’ve talked about some of this but not everything you mentioned. (Here: ua-cam.com/video/7OTHjC0gdYY/v-deo.html )
Hi, I was interested in your black double silver buttons jacket? where did you get it from?
Mango, but it was a few years ago!
So many helpful examples and tips. Thanks.
You're very welcome!
As long as no one tries getting a surgery for it! 🥴
How do you dress a long torso ?
I have a long torso....so I watch your videos on what I SHUD WEAR!...I'd love some videos on long torsos!
Genius!! Well done 👏🏻
Love these tips and the ways to break the rules!
Thanks Lynn! 😄
Jules, great video! Thanks for this info.
Glad it was helpful!
Yesterday I found out I have short torso, this video has helped me a lot ❤
Great tips... with perfect examples.
I’m so glad!
I agree with tucking in the tops for our body time… especially a partial tuck. I steer away from high neck tops because I have a small short neck, big breasts and a small waist.. I look better with a square neck or scoop neck
Nice jackets!
Jumpsuits look great on sumone with short torso
How do I know if im short or long rise/torso
I 5'0" so wide leg pants look awful on me. I did manage to find a pair of petite flare leg jeans that are perfect. I wear them with heels and platform sandals.
Love flares! They can make legs look so great!
Outstanding incredibly helpful!
Hmm idk why the high neck rule doesn’t work for me. I always look slimmer and longer in a v neck. Maybe it’s my body type
