    Another great video! I discovered several years ago to start hitting the petite section for my tops, jackets, and dresses even though I am 5'7". Since I push up my sleeves, the sleeve length is not really an issue (I have really long arms to match my legs). I've also learned what petite brands tend to be more narrow in the shoulders and across the chest compared to their misses selections, so I avoid those. Wisdom comes from lots of trial and error.

    Sarah - So many vloggers/bloggers telling women what is new in the stores, how to make a capsule wardrobe, how to look chic, how to find your body type etc. and none of that means anything unless women do their homework first about body proportion. You are so spot on about finding which dept, you need to be shopping inbefore you even think about building a wardrobe. I have sent so many friends to the petite dept. who could never understand why things didn't fit them and they are so obviously petite. Thank you for saying what no other vlogger has said - you do not have to be petite in height to shop in the petite dept. It is all about your proportions. I have heard vloggers say "If you are petite just hem it" and that just drives me crazy. We have never been educated in this and thank you - thank you for doing so. I wish more women had seen this.

      Aw Dianne, thank you for taking the time to write this. It means a lot to get your feedback. I did notice that there was a lack of knowledge in the area and wanted to fill that gap. Many thanks again, Sarah :)

      For years I thought everything had to do with weight and height until my friend and i tried the same cocktail dress on at a thrift store. We both are 5"4 and weighed 120. It looked amazing on her, but looked so weird on me. The boob part was above my chest. Then the owner of the shop explained I had a short torso and long legs. She told me I need petite tops etc. I never knew why one piece bathing suits were so weird and the crotch would be almost to my knees! :(
      My entire life I think about it every day as I'm very into fashion and have struggled with body image issues.
      The 80' s were a nightmare! All the bathing suits are made for waists that were 6 feet in length
      !

    Can you please do a video for large bust short torso & long legs? Thanks! ☮️

    Thank you for this informative video. I finally determined that with my short torso and long legs I need a shorter blazer to look better. Longer blazers cut me in half and I look frumpy!!

    This is the only video I've been able to find that actually takes into consideration all the other factors in body shape and style! Overall shape, proportions, and how you want your body to look. Thank you for this!!

    Interesting! I've been around YT searching for tips for my shortish waist, and yours is the first I've watch that talks about the rule of thirds. I'd heard of this for photography, but never considered it for body proportion. Most advice is all about balance. You definitely gave me something to consider! Thanks!

    my mind is BLOWN 🤯 i never even thought to shop in petites but once you said that it all just clicked! i often will shop in juniors for my jeans because they can flatter my waist, usually if i shop in average women’s jeans, i’ll have a huge gap at the top of my pants lol thanks for the great tips 💗

    Very interesting! The first picture is how I always dress! Also, I do a low rise since I have a short rise. Never tried a mid rise.

      That's a perfect example of what this video is about. Lucky for you that you know now why some things work and some don't. Many people will spend a lot of time and money being frustrated.

    I would love to look put together ... but all styles with belts and tucked shirts are horrible on me

    Thank you for a great video. At 160cm, I am petite. All the experts out there say that for petites, high rise pants/jeans are best. That's really not true for petites with short torsos and long legs like myself. I tried on so many high rise jeans and they all made me look ridiculous, in addition to being physically uncomfortable to wear.

    What about short torso and short legs.

    Really appreciate the video! I keep hearing those of us with short torsos should avoid cropped jackets.

    • @Mermer-16
      @Mermer-16 Рік тому

      Yes, I keep hearing that too. I think it also depends on the color and style of the jacket and what you pair it with.

    I appreciate your POV. At 66, I'm realizing that although I'm of "average" height, I fit "Tall Curvy" jeans and "Petite" sweaters. I can look a bit cartoonish with tucked-in shirts so I'm going to try your suggestion of a 2/3 proportion layer over that combo.
    I could use some clarification as to what is included in the "whole", is it just the length of the main garments that are divided visually in thirds? The green dress example shows 4 divisions, the bare legs apparently not being considered (?)

    • @sarahryanthestylecoach
      @sarahryanthestylecoach  2 роки тому +1

      Great question Donna. I would usually consider the 'whole' as the garments on the body rather than the body itself. We can use the garments to proportion ourselves differently if we wish. Fun to play around with this idea :)

    I'm still lost. I have a short torso and long legs. When it comes to trousers I find that shopping petite does not help me. The rise is often still too long. If I put the waist at my waist I have one of 2 problems - either the extra rise length is all bunched up around my tummy accentuating my fat roll or the crotch is bagging towards my knees. The designers also think if you have a short rise you must have short legs, so even if I find a rise that fits me the legs are halfway up my calves. Shop tall? The legs might be more than long enough, but the waist comes up to my armpits. Not a good look! I think some designer congratulated themselves thinking they saved money on fabric by matching short legs with short rises, but they will never know how many pants they never sold because they didn't fit. I wish designers would make a definite difference in rises and leave the legs long. If the legs are too long, hemming them up is a minor alteration, but if the rise doesn't fit, you just don't buy because there's nothing you can do. Sorry about my rant, but every now and then I have to blow off some steam.

    I keep telling my mom that this is why I like a crop and a front tuck. She tries to hide me in long, baggy clothes - says they’re flattering 😂 definitely NOT!

    Women need what men have always had and that is to buy clothing based on measurements and not sizes.
