Grubby playing Dune: Spice Wars (+DLC): ua-cam.com/video/m9gIVQIfX7c/v-deo.html
"Dune II" (1992) was actually one of the first RTS video games, and laid the groundwork for decades of RTS games. Dune is a great universe to build an RTS game upon.
A true classic. Made by Westwood Studios who would use their experience to create their own IP....Command and Conquer

@@GrubbyTalks affirmative
It was THE first RTS game
@@Jand0sHerzog Zwei was first. But it wasn't point-n-click
Looks like a re-skinned Northgard
same dev
I'm so happy you tried this game Grubby. Bought as soon as it "came out" in early access and didn't regret it for a second.
Constant updates, new content, bug fixes, balancing, not afraid to change core game mechanics and overall just heading more and more in the right direction.
Think games like these are what RTS needs to fill the gap between "hardcore" RTS games and "easier" RTS games.
It has a new update coming, called Heroes of Dune, which should be an absolute blast! WC3 vibes hopefully.
Try multiplayer! Think you'll enjoy it a lot. Respect my man!
Super excited to see where the devs plan on taking this game. Hoping for spectated matches/replays next so that our little official discord community can pop off with some casting and tournaments
I've been trying genres I don't normally play
Bene using Gamepass for that.
I tried persona 3 reload and loved it so much I bought the other games
Now I tried spice wars......I never thought I'd ever like 4x games in my life. This game is so much fun. Also I just love the dune universe and the books. I even bought the DLC.
I think this game is criminally underrated.
But tbf, I don't play against AI, and most players play against AI; which might explain the lukewarm perception. Me and my friends are playing this together in multiplayer, either in 4 player lobbies or kanly duel mode and all at a similar level. Been great fun!
Yeah, it's kind of clear when you play a lot of multiplayer, it's designed for that. Ecaz's whole mechanic of Masterpieces only makes sense when a person is weighing the costs of taking things or do you really want to lose Vernius' bonus from a Truce, etc.
One of the most comprehensive reviews I’ve seen of the game very well done video.
Wow, thanks! Not quite a review - just first impressions. Review would be more exhaustive and discuss some pros& cons of game systems, and come after more game time!
I am currently playing this gem right now and in the background tab I hear Grubby talking about it... That is just a wierd Dune-ception😂
Fantastic game, online games are really fun with the politicing, it has the same feel of playing a board game.
Why does the universe keep making creators I watch play the games I start playing!? I start playing League, Grubby starts League. I start Dawn of War 40k, Grubby starts it. I start playing Spice Wars, the next day, Grubby starts it... I think he's stalking me!
What are you playing next?
@@GrubbyTalks I'll throw a curve-ball this time and give three possibilities! I'm thinking of playing some Heroes of Might & Magic 3, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy or XCOM 2. Your move Mr. Universe 😎
@@grottoguru6473 if u look into homm go test song of conquest :)
I wish the art was less "cartoony" - the original Dune II was kinda of oppressive even down to the art style.
Oh the life of not being a single dad with a 3 year old. I'm so jealous of you ha!
incredible game, especially for Dune fans (book fans). 300 hours already
Niceee, more talks like this! Great you like it. I have been playing it for quite time and I was pretty pleased too by different cool mechanics and solutions, looks like a nice combination of RTSs and 4x games. Thanks!
Solium Infernum looks like a wonderful political struggle game in this vein. Turn based. Has the sleek UI, an encyclopedia, and an incredibly strong flavor and theme. The turn/action systems have depth because almost every function costs an "action" which makes the game feel manipulable but also weighty.
I like Spice Wars, but the Fremen shouting "For Arrakis" is counter-thematic to the events of Dune. Other mechanical nitpicks with respect to theme and the typical arc of a Spice Wars game really doesn't inspire a feeling of fun or mastery. For a game that is remarkably like its predecessor (the Dune board game and Gale force 9 rerelease), it doesn't even come close to the power fantasy that the board game had.
oh Heroes of Might and Magic mentioned
Would love it if an actual good dev/publisher picked up HoMM again. Been about 18 years since the last decent one
didnt know you play 4X. you should do a HOI4 stream sometime
Yea unfortunately the AI cheats and that makes it unplayable for players like me. Not that the AI is hard, but it just makes some mechanics and factions not interesting.
I stopped playing a lot of games because of this. Age of Empires 2 is great, if you play a match vs AI the only benefit they get is more clicks and army management. They don't get any economic benefit that runs behind the scenes.
Somehow I still like Northgard better. It’s much more simpler and micro focused tho.
Also I like hearing you mention AoW series. Are you planning on playing AoW4?
Hey bud! I've played Age of Wonders 4 for about 9.5 hours and it was not as great as other 4X for me. The combat felt less interesting than Planetfall and the world map, while pretty, did not feel as meaningful to discover and travel as in Heroes of Might and Magic III.
Im actually intrigued about you playing this - I never play much 4x games only a little but having the legendary dune title I wanna check it out atleast in your video - I was too scared to invest the money myself first. because it definitely isnt classic RTS but maybe still really fun and good.
I played Dune2 a lot as a kid. First RTS game ever :)
In a time when a lot of developers are struggling and getting shutdown I'm so glad Shiro have continued to push out awesome updates for this excellent game. Since release its just got better and better and seems like that will continue into the future. I love this game and wish it was more well known. Great review!
Interesting, Grubby played AOW Planetfall, but no AOW4
I tried AOW4 briefly, but it didn’t hold the same appeal for me compared to Planetfall
Glad to hear you enjoyed your time! Hope to see you back with the new update!!!
I just finished watching Dune 2… then bought the game… I also read some of the books after the fourth it gets really weird but the first 2 are as Homelander would say… Perfect.
It's a nice little game. But sorry, with no replayability. I played it for like 2 days and I was fed up with it.
Grubby is my favorite and actually only streamer i like/watch.
I respect him a lot and yet I always have to wonder.... if this is paid by the game dev. or not and if so then if this influences his opinion/review of the game.
Cool vid! Have you ever played the boardgame Dune Imperium? If not, I very much recommend it!
I hate 4X it had always held back RTS because 4X is terrible RTS has always had pause unless it was in MP then only a few did
Gotta love that Rimworld background music!
I saw this available on Xbox, would love a PS version
I found it a lot of busy work but very few fun. maybe i am playing it wrong.
I really enjoy the game as well. Feels quite balanced and offers many ways of winning (paying attention to the CHOAM, defense / offense, assassination and the hegemony) in a 4 player mode on higher difficulty it does require looking everywhere at once. Love it.
0:55 I thought someone is correcting your headphones from behind you
Nice first impressions. I like the game but i haven't really played it very far on Game Pass. Gonna change that now after your impressions.
Reminds me that my biggest disappointement about the Dune lore is that House Ordos is not really a (major) thing.
There's a lot of cool moments, but the pause button feels very odd, like I'm cheesing the game, and I haven't gotten past that mental block yet.
Pause at 0:43 you won't regret it
This hybrid between 4x and rts i love. Shiro is one of my favorite devs atm.
Northgard for me was brilliant, consistently dramatic multiplayer games, but somehow Dune:SW just didn´t click with me.
Might be a fine game, but it felt a bit soulless to the point I felt like I was just playing a spreadsheet. Might have to give it a more in-depth chance.
My Dune-esque games remain HW:Deserts of Kharak (a reimagining of one of my all time favorite strategy games, Ground Control), and the awesome Highfleet.
it's on game pass on Xbox rn
hellooo thoughts on dawn of war 2 ?
I like the game but my biggest criticism is that when you're losing combat its almost impossible to tease out why because there's so many invisible passive buffs involved
The buffs can be seen by clicking units. Not invisible, we just lack experience
Broken Arrow when?
Neat
i watched this video and i dont know what this game is about, the video u show there are no fights nothing is explained.
Really poor video
The video was not for you. The video was him talking about it, not showing it. Perhaps if you're looking for an exhibition you could watch a match played instead of what is clearly a man talking.
It’s first verbal impressions, not a review. But your feedback is still good. Thank you!
@@GrubbyTalks i kind lost interest in the game xd but what in missed in video is couple sentences about the game. Its rts game with heros like wc3 or not? The economy is based on spice which u trade. Couple Words about mechanics of the game. I mean this was just video about Ur feelings with no values at all. IT could really come down to one sentece like IT or not
@@Rastamanjungle It sounds like you're going to get a spice wars video soon. A month? Sooner?
0:54 Grubby's lover sneaking up behind him. so cute :333333 HAHAHAA
