I honestly felt like you and said that Neil was the best drummer who ever lived.....until The Dave Mattews Band came along. Carter does things on the drums that even the great Neil wouldn't do. But being a drummer myself ....I know that Neil is the best for Rush and Carter is the best fit for DMB and you couldn't really switch them without the sound of the band sounding way different. What is your view..Do you listen to the Dave Matthew's Band....if not check them out

My very straight lawyer daughter listens to DMB. That’s the only thing I need to know about DMB to keep me away from their music. LOL

He is a basic drummer. As a kid rocking out to Led Zeppelin and not knowing how to play the drums at the time...I thought he was great and sounded awesome but since I've been drumming for years....basic is all I can give Bonham. Any basic drummer can do anything he can do. Do you think Bonham can play any Rush songs any better. Also.. you don't have to stay away from DMB . I can tell you are sort of stuck on the sounds of the 70s...I don't blame you a bit... I like that Era...but I also have an appreciation for music in general. 40 fucking years after the release of 2112, they perform it live. I dont even care his vocals has gotten old, this is history in the making, by one of the worlds greatest and most influential bands.
Yeah, his vocal range was really the only thing about the band that ever diminished. I would say that their musicianship and ability to play cohesively actually got better over the years, as hard as that is to believe.
This is the best 3 man band in the history of Rock, bar none! I'm very grateful to have been able to see them 11times. May the memories live on for future generations to be able to see these epic artists!.

Each one if them are the best at what they did/do. Alex Lifeson is such an underrated guitarist.. Geddy too.. Right up there with Led Zeppelin and will live on forever with a legacy. Best power trio ever.

100% agreed. No one is like them, hands down the best band in history but yet such humble, genuine, nice people which makes me respect them all the more.
Hard to argue against them being THE masters of their craft. Neil and Geddy are certainly the gold standards at their instruments. Alex is maybe a top 20 Guitarist of all time, but that list is incredibly stacked and in no way should be considered a sleight against him. He is a legend.
I’ve seen many drummers especially some with an overloaded crazy kit with all sorts of things they aren’t even using or capable of playing. This guys talent is one thing but he uses every drum and cymbal and whatever else as much as the snare and kick! Been watching this man since the 1970s and at 59 I’m still amazed at this guy. RIP. Miss ya man!

From perhaps the best conceptual album ever recorded. Memories of sitting on the porch roof at Jack Chandlers mom's house on brown street in Napa, engaging in the intake of the herb and listening to this album at a very high volume. Kids, folks that have never experienced progressive rock music I give you Rush: 2112
Lifeson underappreciated, but not the greatest. In music, there is no "greatest" anymore than the ridiculous GOAT arguments constantly being recycled in sports. Are Hendrix, Mozart Shakespeare and Abe Lincoln really heads above all others in their particular fields of endeavor? Placing people at the pinnacle of anything magnifies their legacy at the cost of those who have also made contributions of similar magnitude. There are individuals who were right for the moment, but once the moment passes, I'd prefer to "reopen the books" and let others in. Figures who are irreplaceable is a different and more interesting line of inquiry.

As a musician it was very hard to really take Neil Pearts passing. As a 61 YO I have lost a LOT of family and friends over the years but this was so unexpected. He was such a huge talent and a nice guy
Very meek and borderline introverted but the best drummer in the world... great book that he wrote called "Ghost Rider" was about his wife and daughter killed in a car crash in 1999. He rode his motorcycle for eighteen months all over Canada and the USA

Saw them in 1982 in Boblingen Germany when I was overseas in the US Army in an indoor soccer stadium as I recall. Was a medic in The Big Red One 1/16th IDF. Dollar was strong and one could purchase a piece of hash as big as your thumb for $20, or less. Thankfully I was raised to appreciate music. And hash. RUSH was the icing on top. US government sent me overseas so got to miss the birth of my first child, All of 3 of mine are the coolest people in the world. 😉 Mighta been close to an international incident and a border crossing gone sideways.
dont even remember how many times ive seen them so many and everyone was priceless!! watched this in awe of the timing and neil its also one the most classic solos of all time i have never stopped playing this arrangement in all my years
You notice one thing about Neil, he never tries to assert dominance over the band by over-hitting, he's entirely in his comfort zone, and all three are in complete balance. The total integration of three powerhouse musicians as if they are one single being is utterly amazing.
I have no clue as to why the drums don't burst into flames, for that matter Alex's guitar. My best wishes to Neil's family, the world has lost a great role model, drummer, and composer. R.I.P Neil

please Lord, thank you for this music, let me forget only on the day I pass. I listened to this as a young man in high school with my friend in his Z28, kricket speakers and power booster. We were able to see Rush in concert in Cincinnati and Dayton Ohio about six times. I have the Roll the Bones sweat shirt from Cincy, only wore it twice, and both times turned heads.

Happy to say 40 years later I still get goose bumps as my memories travel back to the 2112 tour back in the '70s...it was Chicago, IL (the old Bulls/Blackhawks stadium on Madison)...the backup band was STARZ who rocked out their Coliseum Rock album...a "smokin"" night of Rock Jammin' I've never forgotten!!!

Happy to say 40 years later I still get goose bumps as my memories travel back to the 2112 tour back in the '70s...it was Chicago, IL (the old Bulls/Blackhawks stadium on Madison)...the backup band was STARZ who rocked out their Coliseum Rock album...a "smokin"" night of Rock Jammin' I've never forgotten!!!
