  • In this video I react to Megadeth's Hangar 18.
    I haven't even finished listening to the full Rust in Peace album but I can tell you that so far this thing is a masterpiece.
    Not a single bad track thus far.

    You are correct in the soloing difference that’s Megadeths crown jewel. Two different style guitar solos and energy and attitude.. That’s been the same across the bands history.. The other guitarist always brings something new to the role. Marty was very different to the 2 previous lead guitarists before him.. But he set in stone the difference in styles.. All others have had to understand his approach to nail it and then make it their own.. Not all his successors could do what he did and do their own thing well.. Some could do their own thing well but not the previous stuff.. 1 could nail the past stuff with ease.. But sucked at actually writing good stuff.. The current lead guitarist is Kiko he’s been there since 2015 and has been the best new addition to the band since Marty Friedman.. Their drummer is on a whole different level as well.. So the unit is super tight and they actually get along like a band and are writing stuff together.. Megadeth for a few years has been almost entirely Mustaine.. It’s always been majority Mustaine but he always used to have a band that were and important part of it.. It missed that for a few years.. Mostly the years I actually became a fan of the bands music.. I’ve never been more excited for the band and it’s new music.. It’s last album was arguably on the bands top 5 ever.. And out of 15 that’s pretty damn good.. The next I expect to be as good if not better..
    Soon... Soon. 😂

    Hey there. Just found your channel, and watched this video. I recently started listening to megadeth more in depth and agree fully with a lot of what you are saying. I was a total metallica fan and didnt listen to megadeth, except the more main stream stuff that actually made it to the radio and tv. After recently listening and going on a similar quest with megadeth, i found that there have been a few guitar changes and a couple drum changes. and dave ellison actually left for a year or two because dave mustaine was too out of control with alcohol. I love the latest guitarist Kikko loreio, his style is pretty much all the previous guys combined. But i will say that Marty Friedman, and Chris Broderick are both insane guitarists. Glad i found your channel and look forward to listening to more. Theres three other guitarist that was in there but im not sure what albums they were on. Anyhow take care. thanks.

    That whale horn guitar surprises me when I listen to it after not listening to it for a while. I have trouble singing "happy birthday," and strumming playing cowboy chords. I can't imagine singing while playing this insanely…(?)🤔labor intensive rhythm playing.

    marty friendman style of solo is called exotic. lots of exotic phrasing his style was inspired by traditional japanese music. lots of exotic emotional string bends. no one else at the time played like that. it was innovative. he taught jason becker the exotic style in which becker incorporated in his playing also. check out marty friedmans-forbidden city song and hear the awesomeness of his style.

      Don't know about the 'taught Becker exotic style' part. Pretty sure they played off each other, Friedman always loved his exotic scales while Becker was more neoclassical in his approach. Becker might have actually been more technically sound actually, but Friedman's work does sound more different because of his aforementioned style

    • @guitar_noodle
      @guitar_noodle 4 роки тому +2

      @@njldst2007 its a fact. Marty taught becker for a bit and realized how fast he learned. Becker was already shredding neoclassical and rock/metal but marty introduced the exotic style. Marty had honed the exotic style prior to Becker. He got the idea from listening to traditional japanese music(no guitar) while living in Hawaii. As Marty said himself everything he showed jason he was able to learn quickly and even played it better than him.

      @@guitar_noodle Yup, Marty definitely rubbed off on Jason. IMO, Altitudes is the best example. The clean guitar solo at the beginning and some of the phrasings in the other solos sound A LOT like what Marty would play. Also, Jason's unique vibrato obviously used Marty's as the blueprint.

    The age old question of whom is better Metallica or Megadeth and a song like Hanger 18 can sway so many to the deth side, but I offer why? Why choose? Different, yet similar sound(at times) One side is more raw and gritty with at times unpolished heavy sounds(old Metallica) and the other is studio perfection with a clean heavy sound(Megadeth) Both bands tell amazing stories and make you think about what you are listening too. Both bands are really talented from top to bottom. To me it is whichever my mood is. The intelligence of Dave and his songwriting along with the added perfect instrumental they bring to their song is just nothing comparable.Mood is what I use to listen to these 2 Powerful bands.

    Saying "Goodness Gracious" at the end is absolutely correct. These calming words are sometimes even more precise than a long strain of F word variations that exclaim greatness.
