I'm 44 years old and I discovered this album in 1991. I have produced techno, hip-hop, played guitar in metal and blues bands, played drums in other bands, did some SRV covers, and to this day, there is no piece of music that impresses me more than Rust in Peace. The album is an absolute masterpiece of technicality, musicianship and song-writing. Even Ed Repka's album art is timeless. Every song on the album is amazing. Quick note for the uninitiated: Dave Mustain (singer, rhythm guitar, lead guitar) and Marty Friedman (lead guitar) both played guitar solos on this song. The fast pattern style playing is Dave, while the exotic flowing stuff is Marty. It's pretty damn rare for both guitarists in a band to both play solos.
Drummer was Nick Menza... RIP!!! Rust in Peace was released in 1990. I remember a Megadeth t-shirt back in high school in the 80's that gave 2 definitions for Megadeth on the back. First one read: Megadeth-the death of a million or more people due to nuclear war. The second one read: Megadeth-the fastest, most technical speed metal band ever. Man, I miss those days!
I had that t shirt back in the late 80s had the seagull being squeezed til blood came out of it, wore it until it completely fell apart, need to hunt that down

You can see why Rust in Peace (1990) is considered one of the best Thrash Metal albums of all time. Top 5 for me. There are no bad songs on the album. I strongly suggest "Lucretia" from this album.

Hanger 18 is a guitarist dream song its so technical and has so much energy and passion behind it. You gotta show the drummer some luv as well. Such a great reaction.

So, Dave Mustaine, the singer and guitar player, used to play with Metallica. After a falling out he founded his own band and forged his own path.
