    _____________________________________
Pink Floyd are an English rock band formed in London in 1965. Gaining an early following as one of the first British psychedelic groups, they were distinguished by their extended compositions, sonic experiments, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows. They became a leading band of the progressive rock genre, cited by some as the greatest progressive rock band of all time.
Pink Floyd were founded in 1965 by Syd Barrett (guitar, lead vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals) and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals). Under Barrett's leadership, they released two hit singles, "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play", and the successful debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). The guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour joined in December 1967; Barrett left in April 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. Waters became the primary lyricist and thematic leader, devising the concepts behind Pink Floyd's most successful albums, The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979). The musical film based on The Wall, Pink Floyd - The Wall (1982), won two BAFTA Awards. Pink Floyd also composed several film scores.

      You haven't heard ECHOES yet...!
Make sure you do the audio version first before the Pompeii version. The audio version gives you the FULL picture of what the band intended, with complete sonic overload throughout the song. It is 23:32 of music out of this world!

@@gbsailing9436 I can't agree with you more...we always had the record first, then went to the concerts, especially with Floyd, it's always a journey, you really have to listen to them in one sitting, then you could enjoy "the singles" because you had a context from which to place that particular song...ROck ON!!

I’m 70 and have been lucky to have seen Pink Floyd 2 times, the last time was for the “Dark Side Of The Moon”tour. What he’s missing is the amazing Pink Floyd light show that is a big part of their performance. These were good times musically. Mid 70’s was a great time to be young and have this music to listen to.

Pink Floyd is deeper than the Mariana trench, higher than any satellites orbiting earth, cooler than an iceberg in a river of liquid nitrogen, hotter than a solar flare of lava spouted from the sun, smoother than a quantum stabilized atom mirror, more Zen than 10,000 Buddhist monasteries, larger than what we know as our universe. Their music is an enigma that is beyond what we are capable of comprehending. There music is timeless.

At 78. Pink floyd has been part of my life for over 50 years. Love them as much now as i did early on. Lucky enough to have seen them live in the late 80s. Nice to see videos of younger people discovering the experience. Real music. No one plays instruments anymore.

Indeed, brother... There is NO WAY anything like this could possibly be produced today... And why? Because the younger generations are SO IMPATIENT and want it all right now. I watch younger reactora who have trouble sitting still and just listening to PF, it's like they've got ants in their pants... But, at 65 myself, you and I KNOW the value of this iconic band, something that most of the younger generation can neither understand not have any interest in... It doesn't appeal to the hedonistic, "Gotta have it all right now" mentality. Truly sad what's happened to the music industry since the 1970s....

I had the same experience in Mpls., MN the night before the concert. We were all sitting in our reclining chairs looking up at the ceiling, watching, wondering how it was done with the lasers. I remember the song Money was playing and when the sax solo came in suddenly a spotlight came on and there was Dick Perry right in front of us actually playing the solo. What do you do??? Do you watch the lasers or do you watch Dick Perry??? What a wonderful problem to have!! We were waiting for him when the sax came in on Us and Them. He got a standing ovation from us and you could tell he wasn't expecting one. I'll never forget his smile. BTW: I was in the second row (he was right in front of me just off to the right) and I could actually "feel" the sonic waves from the sax. It was almost better than the concert the next night....almost. It was the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour. It was in the HHH Metrodome and I was seated in the second deck. Not the best seats. When the PULSE/Division Bell tour came I was ground level row 28. Much better.

I was driving out of Memphis late one night in '76. I stopped at a small music store and picked up Wish You Were Here on cassette . I took off down I-40 for about 5 minutes before I decided to take the back roads for the 90 miles I had to go. I drove till daylight and listened to this album over and over again. It's one of their best. Watching you listen to this music for the first time somehow helps me hear with fresh ears. I've been a fan for 56 years and I hope you can be the same. Great video!

S)nine on (Y)ou Crazy (D)iamond is Floyd's tribute to founding member, lead guitarist, main vocalist and songwriter Syd Barrett. In 1968, after achieving great success in the psychedelic/pop genre, Syd suffered a complete psychological breakdown (due to a combination of undiagnosed schizophrenia, way too much LSD, and intense pressure from the record company) and had to leave the band. That's when David Gilmour (who was a childhood chum of Syd's) stepped in to replace him. Unfortunately he never recovered and spent his remaining years as a recluse. However, not so coincidentally, he showed up unannounced and unrecognizable at the studio during the recording of this album (1974) It was a very traumatic event for the remaining members, to say the least.

Now, do yourself a favor and watch this performance from The Pulse Concert. I sat front row center with a dozen friends in the New Orleans Superdome, in 94’ watching Floyd’s original saxophonist from Dark Side and the Wish albums, Dave Parry, perform that final solo with two saxophones slung over his shoulder. Started with the Baritone Sax, then throwing it over his shoulder in the middle of his solo to grab the Tenor Sax at the change in time signature through that remarkable fade-out. A brilliant performance. Btw, David Gilmour has said that his performance of “Comfortably Numb” that night was the best live performance of his career. It certainly was my favorite.

This song is all about one of Pink Floyd founding members in 1964, Syd Barrett and his demise. It's a story about his losing battle with LSD, other mind-altering drugs, and mental illness, that forced him to leave the band by 1968.
Actually, the whole album the song is on, "Wish You Were Here", (1975), is about Syd Barrett. He's the one they're wishing were here.
Even the title of the song refers to Syd, the acronym for "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is SOYCD,.... the first, third, and fifth letters spell SYD.
Barrett actually came up with the name of the band, Pink Floyd is/was a Blues based band just like virtually every other Rock band to come out of England in the 1960s. Barrett had recordings from many American Blues guitarists from the mid 1900, two of them especially stood out for him, they were,...
    ...... PINK Anderson, (1900 - 1974), and FLOYD Council, (1911 - 1976)

First time I listened to this was in Astronomy class my senior year of high school. Our school has a planetarium and our teacher let us bring i music to listen to at the beginning of clas. One song, then on to lessons. This was 1989 and we had Dolby 5.1 which was a big deal back then. Kid brings in this album not telling the teacher it's a 13-minute song, hits "play." Lights go down, stars light up, and I had what I can only describe as an out-of-body experience. Like being on a trip without drugs. Been hooked on this drug ever since. Withdrawals can be easily solved by more Floyd.

Even though we can never hear it again for the first time, watching you listening for the very first time is nearly as good. As you get deeper into PF, you'll need to watch more P.U.L.S.E. live performances of these tracks - fasten your seatbelt for them to avoid injury. Enjoy.

Floyd is my favorite band. I was fortunate enough to have seen Floyd twice. Once in 1988 and once in 1995 for the Pulse tour. I had VIP floor seats and it was an experience I’ll never forget. The last instrument was a baritone saxophone and when the notes get higher he changes to an alto saxophone. My 22yo son can play it and it’s just awesome. David Gilmour is a legend. When he plays the guitar without lyrics, none are needed. He can make the guitar speak to your soul. I would definitely check out my favorite Floyd song, Comfortably Numb. But please check out the live version as others have suggested. Gilmour has 2 solos. First one is shorter than second. But the second is arguably the best guitar solo ever.
Their first album, Piper at the Gates of Dawn is very different but is incredible in its own right. Especially Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive. Oh and a sort of funny catchy tune called Bike.

What a brilliant idea to use subtitles for the comments so as to not interrupt the music and allow it to play without pausing. There is nothing more frustrating when beautiful music is constantly being paused and talked over. Shine on you crazy diamond is so amazing. I have listened to it so many times over the years, and yet it still gives me goosebumps each and every time. The comment that it is not just music but an experience is the best way to sum up Pink Floyd they take you away to another place on a sonic journey. Nobody even comes close to their brilliance as musicians. Gilmour has great vocals, but he sings more eloquently through his guitar transcending mere words.

This song is a tribute to Roger "Syd" Barrett. He was an early member of Pink Floyd and was replaced by David Gilmour. Syd Barrett was a brilliant artist and musician who unfortunately gradually lost himself in his drug use and thus became unsustainable for the band. Nevertheless, he gave Pink Floyd the first important impulses for success. Syd Barrett turned up at the Abbey Road Studio during the recording of Wish You Were Here and was not recognized because he had become quite fat and was almost removed by security. Then Nick Mason asked David Gilmour if he knew the man? David had to say no and Nick Mason said "That's Syd". And Roger was in tears. They played some more music together and talked. Shine on you crazy diamond is an acronym for Syd. The song is intended to describe the emotional state, the state of health and the character of Syd Barrett musically

Thanks, Floyd! PF is not an "easy" listen.. takes incredible patience to hear it develop.. and this one is so much about Syd Barrett.. as even many other songs are.. he's the "missing" piece that was a key to their start... a total "Crazy Diamond".. (I also like having heard that David G. took care of Syd, after his leaving the band..making sure he got royalties, etc.. ) I appreciate your listen...

SO HAPPY that you chose the studio version - so as not to be distracted by video - or miss the parts that don't get played live.
As for better headphones....if you can afford a hundred, there's no better choice than Sennheiser HD 280 PRO. They are a studio reference headphone that I've come to love after trying 30 different pairs through the years. They are TRUELY flat response, which means you are hearing what was meant to be heard.

Keep it coming my friend! Love your reactions bro! You have quickly come to the realization that Pink Floyd is not just music, but it is an experience. If I may, I would like to recommend sorrow from either the pulse concert, or the delicate sound of thunder tour. It must be one of the Live versions because the guitar solo will totally blow your mind! There is so much left for you to explore with Pink Floyd, and I’m here with you for the journey!

I’ve seen them in concert three times - for this album, Animals, and Division Bell. The only way to describe experiencing Pink Floyd live is it’s a religious experience. And they are meticulous about getting the sound perfect no matter where you sit in the stadium.

Bro, love ur reactions to Floyd it makes me laugh and smile with the captions you post regarding the emotions on yoyr face. “Time” is the next song and natural progression in the rabbit hole but don’t want to screw with you listening to the Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety in one session ending with “Eclipse”. You should consider doing a reaction to the entire album in one vid with no pauses. Life changing. Also do the same with The Wall. Would be an epic reaction. Another single to consider reacting to is “Mother”. It’s so unique and brilliant and shows the incredible range of Pink Floyd.

As much as the sonic atmosphere is so inhumanely perfect throughout, Gilmour channeling the greatest blues guitarists of history, Richard Wright’s keyboards, the wine glasses in the beginning, Roger’s lyrics and vocals, the harmonies, the production… as much as all that is off the charts, Dick Parry’s sax when it comes in is always the part that gets me the most.

It may seem like a trip through space and time but, it’s an inner journey to a much deeper place.
You like stories? I remember back in high school, about 1973, a few friends and I had dropped acid and at some point we found ourselves at someone’s house, possibly to find some weed to ‘take the edge off’ and someone was playing Pink Floyd on the stereo.
I was not too familiar with Floyd at the time and did not recognize the song as theirs, nor did I have the ability to verbalize the question.
I just remember it was so pastoral and calming. Gentle acoustic guitar and an equally gentle voice singing some thing like,
    “Hear the lark and harken
To the barking of the dog fox
    Gone to ground
    See the splashing
Of the kingfisher flashing to the water”
and let me tell you, I heard the splashing of the kingfisher so clearly and vividly that it frightened me. My friends calmed down and explained it was just Pink Floyd record.
It was Years before I was able to finally identify that song. I had started a new job and quickly became part of a group that was into good music. This one guy was the biggest Floyd fan and I knew that if anyone could tell me what that song was it would be him.
Turned out we could not identify it by my stellar description of “ acoustic guitar, very soft, some bird or animal sounds”.
He thought Wish You Were Here, but that wasn’t it.
In 1973 I was 18. It wasn’t until I was almost 50 that I finally found out. It was Grantchester Meadows from Ummagumma, 1969
I highly recommend it. Here you go…. ua-cam.com/video/2DAdWcsM7Po/v-deo.htmlsi=H-Rtb_NthNpj3oar

Saxophone. Thats the instrument(s) at the end. That is Dick Parry playing both (😮) of them!
Another great version from Pulse. Its the opening number. Think the studio version knocked your socks off? Yeah. 10x better from the concert. Not that the album is bad. It is a top 10 studio album in my collection. BUT you do get to see Dick with Both Saxs on him when he solos at the end. And watch him change from the baritone to the tenor sax in midflight is not to be missed. Yes...I witnessed this in 94. Lol. But it is also on the dvd or youtube videos.
    Good Stuff Man!

You asked for memories. 30 years ago, i drove home, 2 hours threw the forests in the middle of the night from hospital where my mother just had died. All the way, with the volume on top on the car stereo i played this. It give me so much strength from somewhere. Only a Pink Floyd song can do that in a moment like that.
