I really appreciate a young guy like you not only enjoying but actually UNDERSTANDING the music. You have my respect. My favorite thing you said was " This is like jazz, but it's rock". Thank you so much!
The guitarist is Dave gilmore and he is still very much alive thank goodness! the band started out in the late 1960s so this concert is mid career. In 1994 mobile phones didn't have cameras on them so no probelm at concerts. This song is about one of the original members of the band Syd Barret . he was regarded as a genius and very charismatic but was one of the musicians who succumbed to drugs experimentation and was lost to severe mental health problems. This is a tribute and expression of love and admiration for him. If you read the lyrics knowing that the song will make perfect sense and is a work of genius - you reached for the secret too soon you shone like the moon shine on you crazy diamond... Their music is long and complex and very atmospheric, briliant musicians and make fantastic use of female backing vocalists - wait till you get to great gig in the sky in for many treats if you do this concert..
Unfortunately, David Gilmore was diagnosed with a neurological disease! And in a few years (3, 5, 7 years?) he'll become debilitated.😢 One of the greatest musicians of all time will be taken from us, and the world will be the poorer for it! At least we will still have their music, of over 50 years, to soothe our souls. Enjoy his new recordings, I just bought them, and a couple of Pink Floyd disc's which I didn't have! I've even got a vinyl record of the soundtrack to the movie "More" one of their earliest recordings, which I bought in Idar-oberstein Germany, in 1971! Everybody, listen to the Pulse version, or Meddle version, of 'One of These Days' for a pick me up! It always works for me....
I was sober, because someone had to drive. Ironically, I don't remember the concert as well as the rest of the people I was with, who were drunk and/or high.

Pink Floyd often has long instrumental intros, and David often has a long guitar solo, the one for 'Comfortably Numb' in this concert is one of his best. When you said 'who's that' when the camera panned to the backup vocalists, the video title credits named them, they are featured in a song done in this concert where the three vocalists cover what Clare Torry was famous for improvising on a Sunday studio session for £15 (long story there) on the song 'Great Gig in the Sky' that was a piece first played only as an instrumental work a year before called 'The Mortality Sequence.'
This song is about Syd Barrett, the lead singer, guitarist and song writer and creator of Pink Floyd. He was forced to leave the band around 1968/69 due to declining mental health and extreme use of hallucinations (LSD). It’s suspected that Syd was schizophrenic. Syd wrote, sang and played lead guitar on the First PF album, Piper at the Gates of Dawn. A FANTASTIC album! It catapulted them to fame. Syd couldn’t handle the stress. He lost his mind and ended up living in seclusion at his mother’s house until his death from cancer in 2005.

A simply stunning and well composed piece to honor Syd Barrett. An amazing man, who's demons got the better of him. Gilmore truly went above and beyond with his guitar work.
Hard to believe it'll be 30 years in May I got to witness this tour. I was on 4th row and trust me, you could feel it. Watch the entire concert, you won't be disappointed.
4th row? I often wondered... I was BEHIND the sound board. Most things happened in front of... or above me. I kinda felt blessed at my seats being further back, because I didn't have to look far, to see what was happening. But... to that end, and BIG SPOILER IF ANYONE READING DID NOT SEE, "COMFORTABLY NUMB, LIVE" STOP READING, NOW!!! so... (lol) what was it like, from your perspective, when the stage went practically black, and a billion dots of light were suddenly all around you? I was behind it, but could see some... structure coming up from the rig, behind the soundboard, before the arena lights lit it up.
David Gilmour (lead guitar and vocals), Rick Wright (grey hair, on keyboards and vocals) and Nick Mason (drums) were original members of the band, except David who joined in '68 to replace Syd. The band was formed in '65. Also, Dick Parry, on sax, has been with them a long time. I'm glad you want to do more from this (Pulse) concert. Every one of them, a banger!
Floyd is big time Blues. This song is a Tribute to Floyd's original Singer Sid Barrett. He went crazy in 1968 from too much LSD and other Drugs. Parts 1-9 recorded in 1975. Studio version is EPIC. Sid's most famous song is "See Emily Play". You may have already heard it and not even known it.
You should do all of the Pulse gig, it'll blow your mind. The first half is a medley of PF stuff, some from the past, some for the (then) new album The Division Bell. Second half is a full performance live of the entire Dark Side of the Moon album but you need to hear the studio version first. Then...a mind-melting encore which includes the greatest guitar solo of all time....Comfortably Numb. Enjoy....
My husband has had to go under general anesthesia a few times for different reasons. He has requested to listen to Comfortably Numb when he went under. He said it's the only thing you should listen to at that moment.
Every song that Pink Floyd does at this Earl's Court Pulse concert back in 1994 is at least equivalent to almost any other groups Grand finale!! They played for a good two and a half hours and then came out and played three encore songs after that! The three songs were (wish you were here) (comfortably numb) and then (run like hell)! It really doesn't matter if you go to those songs or go in order of the concert every song is beyond belief. Their stage production utilized 98 million dollars worth of equipment in 1994 dollars!! I say it that way because it's probably closer to 200 million dollars worth of equipment in today's market!!
I am 65 years old and have been a fan of Pink Floyd for more then 50 years and I still enjoy putting on the headphones turn the lights way down and just let the music take me.
This was a great reaction. Good catch on the cellphones (not a one). I would suggest you check out the same song but the studio versions. There is a "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I - V)" and there is a second video for (Parts VI - IX). Studio version every note is perfect and you get to hear the entire piece. The studio version will let you hear and see the music.
This song is a masterpiece and I was at Pulse concert twice but on this particular song you should hear the original record first. But, as a long time Floyd lover, I've never seen a bad tour with these guys. Insane amount of talent in all of them!! IMO, best band ever!!
David Gilmour is a living legend. He last toured in 2016. If you look up this same song from the David Gilmour live at Pompeii concert, you'll see that sea of phones you noted was missing from this concert from 1994. 70 years old at the time, but a magnificent rendition of this song.
You have no idea how BADLY I wanted to go to that!!! I saw their last two tours, and they remain the best two, I ever saw... and I saw a lot. The fight for 3rd place, behind them is more interesting... but distant. They should'a had a blimp. The outside of the arena, itself was a 3rd layer of their circle of lights. '87 featured the circle, which was the main feature. '94 added the bandshell, outside the (now movable) circle. Kinda... a missed perspective that someone like me... really appreciated. Yes, Dave is alive. This song was for Syd Barrett who started the band in 1965. He had a mental brake down in 1967. He is a genius, painter artist who will always be well loved and respected
The legend is that an almost unrecognizable Syd Barrett came into the studio, bloated, disheveled, and balding, and sat there silently when they recorded this song…which was all about him. Shine on.
Have to hear One of These Days on this PULSE concert it will blow your mind and ears All of them are dtill alve excep Richard Wright the key board player

Steve Hackett when he was the guitar player for Genesis in the early 70's ... listen to the song FIRTH OF FIFTH ... Genesis is right up there with Pink Floyd , maybe even better ... also the band TES ... Steve Howe is the guitarist ... all masters ..... BUT no one make the guitar cry and sing like David Gilnoure
It's always fun seeing someone experience Pink Floyd for the first time, especially someone so young. People did tend to get absorbed by the sound quality and the lighting, they're so mesmerizing, that you simply experienced it communally, it's mind blowing. Two unseen members of the band, the sound engineer, absolutely crystal clear audio LIVE and Marc Brickman, the bands lighting designer for decades, what can I say you saw it, he's been doing that for a long time. I got to see them 3 times, Sept. '87, April '88 for the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour and April '94 for the Pulse tour, all in Dallas. I will never forget those.
Love your reaction. Welcome to the Pink Floyd rabbit hole. Might I suggest you try 'Comfortably Numb' from the Pulse concert for the ultimate guitar solo, absolutely mind blowing.

"Not a single cell phone in sight", LOL. Dude it's 1994! We held lighters up back then! Glad you got to see this! Floyd is timeless! I saw them in 88 and 94, both times they opened with "Shine On". Great to see a Zoomer watching Floyd :D

Pink Floyd was one of the best bands of all time! Every album is an experience. It's impossible for me to pick a favorite album, much less a song. Try"wish you were here"& "animals."
5:12 .. man you said it all .... He doesnt even have to talk .... He make his guitar sing thru the whole tune ... Thats great to see " new musics " discover new era's and genre... Shout out youthies... we love you ....
You also have to listen to the original vinyl version, or on CD maybe. Pink Floyd are just way up in the stratosphere of genius. Up there with Stevie Wonder, Beatles and So on. It takes a lot to match their genius.
So nice to see our younger generations getting into Great music. Music never dies as long as we keep listening and passing it on to others!! Thank you JUSTICE!! 😎🤘🏻❤️
Cell phones? Very few people had cell phones when this concert was recorded. Most people didn’t know about cell phones at all. Life was slower and better without them.
Warning watch 2 other songs from this concert and you will be suck down the rabbit hole. "Comfortably Numb & Sorrow"*********** > actually the whole concert. Their last. FYI. one of 3 stages, 200 ton stage, 200,000 watts of power ( 3 power trucks outside), 128 wireless speakers, outdoors need FFA clearance for lasers. 14 days in a row sold out, second largest grossing entertainment in 1994. "Pink" Anderson & "Floyd> Council jazz players from the past.
Yup, still alive, that's David Gilmour, Pink Floyd lead guitarist and lead singer. Pink Floyd actually released a single in 2023 in support of Ukraine,.... (Pink Floyd being just 2 people in 2023, Gilmour and Mason). Actually, the band Pink Floyd is only 3 people here in 1994, Dave Gilmour, (guitar), Nick Mason, (drums), and Rick Wright, (keyboards), the 3 older guys onstage. The rest of the musicians and singers you see here are Floyds Touring band for that particular time period. From 1968 to 1985 there were 4 members of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright. These 4 guys are what most people think of when they hear the name Pink Floyd. Roger Waters quit the band in 1985 and the remaining 3 members of the band continued on as Pink Floyd, until 2008 when Rick Wright died of cancer. Gilmour and Mason continued on all through, 2010's and beyond, mostly as individual Artists, not as Pink Floyd, unless of course they were performing together, then they were considered Pink Floyd.
David Gilmour is still alive and making music. He is also a very kind and generous person... Richard Wright is gone. RIP ❤ He was the very talented keyboardist.
I was at this concert first night, looked forward to this for ages. But 40 seconds into concert all the lights come on as the stand at the back collapsed. Had to wait a week before we could go back, but it was so worth the wait. We were close to the stage. That close I’m sure our eyebrows burnt when pyrotechnics went off during the wall.
The lead singer and Excellent lead guitarist is David Gilmour and Yes he is still alive. I was fortunate to see ZPinj Floyd Zlive about 10 times as Pink Floyd original members and after Riger Waters left and David Gilmour got the band recording again and travelling touring again as. Pink Floyd

The singer/guitarist is David Gilmour. We both recorded on EMI Harvest label - late 60's 70's.
Pink Floyd doesn't create songs, it creates feelings.
Welcome to the club young man. Glad you are here and listening.😊
i was lucky to see pink floyd live concert . It was a journey ... wtf amaizing , make me chills 🤯...
If you're into funky/jazzy instrumentals, you're going to fall off your chair with the second half of Wish You Were Here album.
David Gilmore is one of the best guitar player in music history. I didn't see this coming....things that make you cry. 😢😢😢
Gilmour
Pink Floyd 🤩 very very special group. U should look into this band . What beautiful music 🎵🎶🎶🎵
Pink Floyd is a very special band. Rock with elements of jazz. I could listen to them for hours.
They know how to let a song breathe! Always in my top 3 of all time!
"Not a single cell phone in sight", LOL. Dude it's 1994! We held lighters up back then! Glad you got to see this! Floyd is timeless! I saw them in 88 and 94, both times they opened with "Shine On". Great to see a Zoomer watching Floyd :D
Cheers mate.
Im born in 64, so PF has been a huge part of my life. I can only recommend you, to enjoy the "The wall" album. PF?? no one above & no one besides.
Have enjoyed 10s of 1000s of reefers to this beautyful music 😉
Try Roger Waters "Knocking on heavens door". Outstanding version.
Thanks for upload.
In 1994 only very few people had mobile phones. And the few one that existed didn‘t have cameras! 😂
Endless distraction was what killed all creativity. Now there’s no time for anything but being hooked.
An ode to an old friend who went off the deep end. Quite a tribute and musical representation of what that insanity would sound like. 🖖🏼
Check out Echoes live at Pompeii as well as all the other live Pulse performances. Welcome to Pink Floyd!
DAVID GILMOUR ONE OF THE BEST GUITARISTS WITH HEART 💜 IN THE WORLD! 🌎
Pink Floyd was named after 2 black blues musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Counsel
David Gilmour is still alive and making music. He is also a very kind and generous person... Richard Wright is gone. RIP ❤ He was the very talented keyboardist.
Pulse concert '94, The Great Gig in the Sky should be your next listen/reaction. You'll get to hear the vocals of the females in the band up front.
EVERYTHING from Pulse is great!
Oh no. I didn't know about this. David loved him so much.
I was at this concert first night, looked forward to this for ages. But 40 seconds into concert all the lights come on as the stand at the back collapsed. Had to wait a week before we could go back, but it was so worth the wait. We were close to the stage. That close I’m sure our eyebrows burnt when pyrotechnics went off during the wall.
no matter where I am...when I hear this,..I'm home.
I have to say in all my 56 years I’ve never seen anyone dance to Pink Floyd!!
But I Lovee it!! ✌🏼
Next: same concert: „High hopes“, „Comfortably numb“ and „Keep talking“!
David Gilmore doesn't play his guitar, he channels the music through it. Magical!
Pink
Floyd
Here for it. Cant wait for your reaction❤
Yeah, this was recorded in 1994. No one had cell phones then.
