Watching a bright young man reacting to an amazing piece of music which i have enjoyed for years ( i am 68 ) and seeing you getting into it and savoring every note, and obviously appreciating it at some deep level, for some reason lifts up my spirit. Thank you man for this!
I love technical guitarists but Gilmour just picks the right notes every time. His solos are always perfect without all the fast playing . However, in this song he shows he can be quite technical on the guitar. He just makes every note count.
Pompeii, Italy, 1971. The guys were in their 20's. I never get tired of this performance. I was so lucky to have been at the right time and place for the best music, imo.
I’m with you, all my life and never tire of it. After all it’s art, no different than a great painting or sculpture. Odd ending they added, still getting used to that to be honest
So glad to see someone so young ...to me anyway ! (I'm 62 ! ) has fallen down the rabbit hole of Pink Floyd !! Enjoy it young man ! Nothing like this is out there today !
Live at Pompeii was my first experience of Pink Floyd “live”. There is something so haunting about being in Pompeii that adds to the performance. And the music is simply awesome.
Sitting on a beach fishing by a campfire while enjoying Mary Jane and Jim Beam in far North Queensland Australia 40 years ago listening to Pink Floyd for the first time. Was one of my fav moments in life.
Echoes is definitely a masterpiece. Although I love all versions of it I think I like the studio version best. No matter how many times I hear this song I feel the anticipation and suspense. I love how it picks you up and eases you into a wild ride, full of ups and downs and all arounds, and then sets you gently back down at the end. I'm very much enjoying your reactions. 💗🤘🏼
Hello MollyBoyTV, You were wondering how they managed to produce such sounds, here's a clue: While playing around with his keyboards, Rick decided to amplify them through a Leslie rotating speaker. One particular note stood out very clearly. Dave called it "a strange resonance... kind of a feedback thing... Ping! A complete accident. We said 'That's great!' and we used it as the start of the piece."
Great video bro. Your initiation to Pink Floyd is complete. Your life will never be the same. I listen to them every day and have loved them for decades. Brilliant, brilliant musicians.
Well done for getting part 1 and 2 together. Most reactors just do part 1. I never tire of hearing/seeing this marvellous initiative in musical mastery. Pink Floyd are one of a kind.
In 1968 I discovered Pink Floyd at 5 years old and haven't looked back. They have always been my favorite band overall. It warms my soul to see a young man as yourself enjoying the songs of old from another time. Welcome to Pink Floyd. This performance was part of a film / movie created in 1972. Two other albums were also produced while at Pompeii.
You really need to listen to the entire Dark side of the moon because it's basically one song! Each song just rolls onto the next song. No stopping and starting. This album was on the charts for over 200( not sure the exact number) but it's still selling. Amazing album!❤️
This song is simply one of the monumental achievements of humanity. Not of prog rock, not of music, not of art in general, simply just that: one of the few reasons we've actually managed to justify and honour our usually miserable existence in this universe. ✨ Sending love from Romania! 💚🇬🇧🇷🇴
Two or three centuries from now, if humans are not extinct, I believe Pink Floyd’s Echoes will be be considered in the same class as the composers and musicians in the Classical group. I think there will be other artists and musical pieces but Echoes will hold a special place.
I watched this aged 23 in a cinema in London large screen, not long after it's release, a memorable occasion. All power to you for exploring this epic music.
Echoes live at Pompeii was filmed in 1971. 3 of the 4 guys performing in Pompeii went on to perform 23 years later in 1994 at the Pulse Concert at Earls Court, London.
There are 2 drummers in the Pulse Concert. The older drummer (wearing a long-sleeved white shirt) is Nick Mason. Nick is the drummer in Pompeii. Richard Wright is T he keyboardist in Pompeii. He is the older of the 2 keyboardists at Pulse. David Gilmour is the Pompeii guitarist, and he is the lead guitarist and vocalist at Pulse.
Hallo lad. Welcome to the music we grew up with. They were innovative, talented not to mention the lyrics. You have so many bands to listen to. As i said, welcome and enjoy. Dave south africa.
Much appreciation for reacting to a full version. The ending conversation between guitar and keys is awesome, I'm glsd you appreciated it too. I still love studio version more, but it's a very complicated song, and seeing it's played with just 4 musicians is something special. I'm 31 now, and I've heard it for the first time sround your age (I guess). Since that, I'm used to listen to it almost everyday, it's my morning routine song, so I've listened to it for several thousands of times and I can't stop 😂
Nice reaction! I love PF - great great musicians. and I love to see someone discover their universe. You tried some Pulse pieces but I think Another brick in the wall and Money could be something for you.
Another great reaction ma!, Actually this Pompeii Concert was in 1972, the song is on their 1971 album "Meddle". I think "Echoes" takes up all of side 2 of the album. Ok the band members here in 1972 are the 4 guys who really made Pink Floyd into one of the Greatest Rock Bands in history! These 4 guys made up Pink Floyd from 1968 to 1985,... Dave Gilmour, joined the band in 1968, (guitar, vocals),... Roger Waters, co- founder of Floyd in 1964, (bass),... Rick Wright, co-founder, 1964, (keyboards, vocals),... and Nick Mason, co-founder, 1964, (drums). Roger Waters, one of the driving forces of PF, quit the band in 1985, the remaining 3 Pink Floyd members continued on as Pink Floyd until Rick Wrights death in 2008. So from 1985 till 2008 there were only 3 members of the band. The other singers and musicians you see onstage like at the 1994 Pulse Concert, (part of "The Division Bell" World Tour), are Pink Floyds touring band for that tour. It was a massive tour, 112 performances in 68 cities, in 17 countries! It was the largest tour of its kind, at the time. "Echoes" was a special song for Gilmour and Wright as they always shared the harmonized vocals, but sometimes they would switch off who was singing the higher part and the lower part of the harmonization. In 2006 they performed both parts of "Echoes" at a concert in Gdansk Poland, I believe it was their last performance of the song, as Rick Wright died two years later from cancer. Gilmour had said at the time that, without Rick, 'He would never play the song again',... Here's a link to that Gdansk "Echoes" performance, in 2006 Gilmour was 60 years old and Wright 62. Nick Mason didn't make the tour, so they had a stand in drummer they had used in the past. So there is only Gilmour and Wright from Pink Floyd. Check it out it's an historic version of this Masterpiece! .... ua-cam.com/video/EMneCi9F_UQ/v-deo.html
Do yourself a Big favor and also watch the live version in Danske Poland! It is the last time this song was ever played with keyboardist Richard Wright who passed away from cancer not too long after! Excellent version also!
Pink Floyd was like nothing before or since. A total mind trip of a wonderful journey. While I don't condone the use of drugs I'll just say during the 70's LSD was popular and totally changed the journey they took you on. ✌
You should also watch David Gilmour doing this live at Gdansk, with Richard Wright. They are the only two of the four at the performance, but the most important two from this particular track. And it features members of Pink Floyd's touring band in later years so it can be rightfully called Pink Floyd. There are three versions of this song that are equally epic for slightly different reasons. The studio version, this one, and David Gilmour live shortly before Richard Wright's passing. I actually like the latter the most because David and Richard had such perfect interplay between them in those last few minutes. David always called this song a "conversation between him and Richard" (yes with Roger's lyrics of course, and Nick's drumming is stunning in these early versions). But after that Gdansk performance, and Richard's passing, he retired this from ever performing it again.
Great you reacted to that version. But there is one version that is superior to all. It was performed by Gilmour in Gdansk in 2006. It was the last time performed then because Wright died some time after that concert in 2006. And I think most people that experienced that Echoes version understand why Gilmour said that he can't perform Echoes withput Wright. Enjoy the Pink Floyd experience and have fun!
I would not say Gdansk is vastly superior it is just different, that is what I like about Pink Floyd's music it is complex and clever, but provides enough space to enable vastly different performances to be made without changing the fundamentals of ths songs. Both versions are great, but one thing Gdansk misses is Nick's subtle yet powerful drum work
it is so beautiful seeing such a young guy, who obviously is so open to learning, to get so much out of what really formed me.... brilliant! there will always be a connection across generations so long as there are people who will listen
You showed a lot of respect for these four musicians. It is a MASTERPIECE - one of the greatest works of this millennia and the last millennia. On par with Bach Toccata and fugue in d minor - another piece of music that will send you off this planet it's so good! Both very different granted.
Im patiently waiting to watch you react to "Shine on You Crazy Diamond " written for their former bandmate Syd Barrett. Truly another masterpiece and one that all us old Floydians love watching you youngsters react to! Guitar god David Gilmour will leave you with mouth wide open as he always does! I think you're ready for it now that you have seen the insane talent these guys had!
This used to play at midnight shows in the United States throughout the 1970s. It's how a lot of us got to see what they looked like for the first time. I think you're ready for "Shine On You Crazy Diamond 1-5" next. studio version. Another masterpiece. You're definitely starting to get it now. This goes Way beyond traditional pop music. Pink Floyd are in a class and genre all their own. 👍
OMG.....Syd Barret😭. I miss him...He was so young. I am 60, I grown up with them and other '70 great group. It was a fantastic period for the music. Thank you all❤😊
You would not believe the technical and political hurdles they had to jump through, in order to make this production come to life. They had to bring EVERYTHING with them, and not even leave footprints when they were done. But it was SOO WORTH IT.
To think, I was 11 when these geniuses were doing this! It makes me feel so small, like they say you feel when you see the Grand Canyon. Makes you wonder what Beethoven or Mozart would say? Or the ancient people who filled that theater? Just the idea is genius, and I can't believe all the massive equipment!!! Timeless, who can touch it even after all these decades? What minds, how much work and sweat to achieve perfection in all they have done!!! They take us outside the elementary things, into the universe and inside ourselves. It was great watching your reaction and thanks for doing this! 5/29/24
Oh lol this premiered on my birthday last year! Ok so this is the Floyd I love . . . pure genius and you're correct it's EPIC. I hear some great new music now but not the mainstream shite and that includes Hip Hop and Ryming but musically these guys in this lineup were truly revolutionary. Yes agree the instruments become poetry in themselves. This encapsulates the whole universe
The first person singing is Richard Wright Keyboards RIP The second is David Gilmour lead Guitar with his famous Black Stratocaster still Performing Solo. The Drummer is Nick Mason still Performing with his band Saucerfull of Secrets. The Bassist is Rodger Walters split with the Band in 1985 Performing Solo. This was made in 1972 just 4 years after the departure of original frontman Syd Barrett RIP. Shot in Pompeii and on the Volcano Vesuvius.
Masterpiece INDEED! 🔥 By far my favorite performances! That says a lot being I’m a die hard PF fan… Sold💯! “Time” Never turned back & learned owned every PF out there. They play on Every Playlist daily. They own one of the largest parts of my library! 🔥🔥🔥🎸
Pink Floyd live in Pompeii was made as a feature film to be shown in cinemas to reach a winder audience. Anyone could go to their local cinema and for the price of a cinema ticket got to see a Pink Floyd concert. I saw it when it came out at my local Odeon.
Pink Floyd requires patience. They take their time in developing their lyrical and musical ideas. It's all worth it.
Watching a bright young man reacting to an amazing piece of music which i have enjoyed for years ( i am 68 ) and seeing you getting into it and savoring every note, and obviously appreciating it at some deep level, for some reason lifts up my spirit. Thank you man for this!
Yes, I'm your age. I love these Youngsters Listening a lot to Pink Floyd and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Both mind expanding Music... 🙂
I agree...it's a pure delight to see these young turks getting turned on
I as well am the same age and enjoy so much seeing the reactions- funny after 50 years this music still feels new
Who the heck can play like this nowadays ?
@@olissime01Eminem. Lmao
I love technical guitarists but Gilmour just picks the right notes every time. His solos are always perfect without all the fast playing . However, in this song he shows he can be quite technical on the guitar. He just makes every note count.
Not just the right note, he finds the tone, and oh my the timing!
“There’s nothing being said, but you can understand it. It’s still speaking to you”.
You just perfectly explained Pink Floyd!
This is an absolute masterpiece. Floyd is not a band they are an experience. Enjoy your floydgasm.
Ahh the floygasms
😊
And I have enjoyed many!
Nick Mason (the drummer) just played this song again in Pompeii a couple months ago with his band, now age 79. OMG.
NOOOO I MISSED IT
Good for him. He got shafted by Pink later.
Is there video of this? Gordon Bennett.. out with it man!! :)
Well for us old dudes who have been Floydians for over 50 yrs, it’s magic to see young people reacting to genius 👍
No-one knows how to take their time like Pink Floyd, they take you on a journey and bring you safely back home with a soft landing. Pure magic!
Their greatest accomplishment ever was this song at Pompeii..... astonishing!
Now go listen to echoes live from Gdansk. Mind blowing 40 years later.
Yeahhh
The last 3 minutes of live in Gdansk. Knowing that was the last time they played that song together 😢
Echoes live at Gdansk IS a MUST. The last time they played that song together.
Pinkfloyd, in my opinion, is the greatest band ever, I have had the absolutely amazing pleasure of seeing them live twice, amazing ❤
So glad to see someone so young ...to me anyway ! (I'm 62 ! ) has fallen down the rabbit hole of Pink Floyd !! Enjoy it young man ! Nothing like this is out there today !
There is music.. and then there is Pink Floyd!

I agree about preferring the album, but I also really like the Albert Hall performance.
My 19 year old brain was literally blown away back then. It still is to this day. All I can say is thank you Pink Floyd!
My favorite pink floyd. Never heard a reaction to it
It sounds like a Masterpiece because it is...this quad...they are cold stone genius killers....
This song is the masterpiece and I am listening once or twice a week for 46 years since I was 14

Listen to Shine on you crazy diamond next. That song is truly a masterpiece 💎
Absolutely
And be sure it's the Studio Version.
In its entirety Parts 1-9 🔥
Pink Floyd has never been so much a song, as a journey.
Great video bro. Your initiation to Pink Floyd is complete. Your life will never be the same. I listen to them every day and have loved them for decades. Brilliant, brilliant musicians.
Same. My day doesn't feel right if I don't listen to a little Pink Floyd. 💗

Looks like you went down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole you will never be the same
David Gilmour is the best and always will be

They Play for the Ghosts and the Gods here.....Perfection
Last 3 minute of this song is the greatest thing that happened for the mankind! Magical band.
A buddy of ours has this dvd, along with Pulse. They have a home theater with awesome sound system and large screen. It’s like you are there.
This is one of my favorite as well.
True masterpieces like this can only be born from the love of the craft.
Pink Floyd’s slow intros are like foreplay. Then more and more intense until…..eargasm!! 💋
You know why it 'sounds' like a Masterpiece? BECAUSE IT IS!!!!

Pink Floyd music is like the weather. Wait a minute and it will change. It is amazing how one song can have so many different sounds.
CAN YOU JUST TRY AND IMAGINE THE WORK THAT WENT INTO MAKING THAT. ALL THE PEOPLE INVOLVED NEED AWARDS

They own one of the largest parts of my library! 🔥🔥🔥🎸
