- The first ever Deep Purple reaction on the channel. I was requested on Patreon to take a listen to Deep Purple - Child In Time 1970. There were so many things happening in this performance that that I was mesmerized by. The UK seemed to have some amazing bands during the 60's and 70's I'm looking forward to dive deeper into more older bands and even older bands from overseas.
Here is my reaction to hearing Deep Purple - Child In Time 1970 for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!

I just happened to have subbed before reading this, after months of watching. You have a geniune vibe and you’re really open minded. You appreciate good stuff. Take care and good luck with the scammers!
You mentioned Glenn Hughes. He joined Deep Purple in 1974. He played bass and sung in Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Country Communion, California Breed, Hughes Turner Project/HTP, The Dead Daisies and was the vocalist on the Black Sabbath album Seventh Star.
Hi Mollyboy that was awesome. Ritchie Blackmore on guitar one of the best guitarists on the planet. Ian Gillan on vocals. You probably know one of their songs SMOKE ON THE WATER. GILLAN AND DIO ARE MY 2 FAVOIRITE VOCALISTS. DEEP PURPLE ARE STILL ON THE GO WITH IAN GILLAN ON VOCALS 😊🤘🤘💖
Please hit Trapeze! Particularly off their second album, You Are the Music... We're Just the Band, title song. Glenn Hughes amazing vocals and rock funk vibe.
PLEASE LISTEN TO: "Rainbow"🌈 is a British hard rock band founded in 1975 by Ritchie Blackmore, who started a solo project after leaving Deep Purple. (Still I´M sad, Mistreated...)
Now you know why oldies say music today is crap.
Pure talent and the ability to play a musical instrument.
Years of practice .
Absolutely 100% correct! these bands had to know how to play their instruments back in the day so much competition
No autotune. All live. All real 10/10
Yup & no in-ear or click, just listening to each other & jamming!
Back when bands could play.
@roymauler Plenty of great bands out there with incredible musicians doing interesting stuff they're just not in the charts these days. Just watched Haken play in bangkok. They're very progy so not everyone's taste but they are fantastic!
@@isuckatguitar6252 There is still a lot of good stuff out there in the underground. It is the mainstream pop stuff that is so awful now.
@roymauler Yup, I'm mostly listening to European prog rock & prog metal bands - there's quite a scene! Also quite a few good bands out of Australia too - Wheel, Voyager, Caligula's Horse, Karnivool.
WELCOME TO DEEP PURPLE ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS EVER
THE
@@snakeplissken5480 one of ....
Everybody in the band were great.
Deep Purple, along with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin were known as "the unholy trinity." Deep Purple were a PHENOMENAL band. Check out HIGHWAY STAR, SMOKE ON THE WATER and BURN for starters.
Smoke on the water, Reading rock WOW !
Not to mention 'Machine Head' and 'Space Truckin''.
Not gonna lie. Growing up in the early 70s, I listened to more Purple than Zeppelin.
Yo también!!!
Totally - Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep. Good memories.
Pink Floyd nicht zu vergessen, mit dem unglaublichen David Gilmour 😎🫶
Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin - the Unholy Trinity!
Man .... the world is STILL LISTENING to all the 60s and 70s BRITISH BANDS that were/are AMAZING. 60 YEARS LATER....that's how earth shatteringly good they are.
he's got a good voice ... understatement of all time
"How do you play a solo on a keyboard?" Welcome to the world of the late, great John Lord. R.I.P. ❤
This is true but the name is Jon Lord.
REAL musicians making REAL music.
And all the cool grandmas said, "Thank you for checking our music out and appreciating it!"
Ian Gillan on vocals. Jon Lord on keyboard. Roger Glover on bass. Ian Paice on drums. Ritchie Blackmore on guitar.
My favorite DP line up
Mine too!
All absolute Legends in their own right. And in the maelstrom of this performance, how unbelievably tight? That dead stop after the solos… Chills….
Gillan and Coverdale were both excellent singers but my favourite was Coverdale, Come Taste the Band and Burn being my favourite Purple albums, although Machine Head & Deep Purple in Rock were excellent as all Purple albums were. ✌🏽🌎✊🏽
Thire wasn't masses filmed so try their album tracks. Their live album Made In Japan is largely regarded as the greatest live album of all time. Check out Highway Star, Lazy and Strange Kind of Woman on it. It also has THE best version of Child In Time on it
But it all HAS to be from Made In Japan as other versions often have poor mixes.
Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple the holy triad of rock music🤘
Yes Bro, i like your comments, specially If young guys could see how all the heavy metal bands from those years could make music like that with guitars, drums organs, keyboards and great vocals. Did you no that that most of them had all Master degrees in Music. Please react to Huriah Heep and Nazareth. Keep Well
Singer Iain Gillan is the absolute archetype for the heavy metal voice. His falsetto (really high voice) and his SCREAM is what gave us legends like Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson. Every member of this magnificent band is a virtuoso in their own right coming together to bring us MAGIC.
and Eric Adams
@@DB-bx7fm - Correct. can't forget Eric "death to false metal" Adams 😁👍. I suspect another singer strongly influenced by Gillan as well is Geoff Tate from QueensrRyche.
Well said
Well said!
The voice that launched a million Metal singers.
It was recorded live at the BBC. The audience was asked to remain still and quiet in advance.
It was filmed by Granada TV in Manchester, not by the BBC. Later released on video as "Deep Purple: Doing Their Thing"
@@psbarrow regardless that’s why the crowd is still and quiet. They were asked to be and of course back then people obliged. Today, probably not so much. Not sure where I read that it was for the BBC.
I get that they were asked to be quiet but there just wasn’t any excitement on their faces
@@MollyBoyTV This was 1970. Unless they had been to a Hendrix or Zeppelin concert they had probably not witnessed this kind of FIRE before, and were probably shocked into a silent stupor by this explosive and astounding band. By the way, the singer is Ian Gillan, not Glenn Hughes.
@@MollyBoyTVIt's called acid. Sometimes you don't even blink when watching something. You will cry from not blinking. Lol Not that I would know anything about it.😁
As a kid, I practically grew up with Deep Purple!!
I grew up with my mum, dad.
@@MissMariQueen For your information, when my brother and I were kids, both of our parents worked, until late afternoon.
My brother and I would go home after school and then listen to music until our parents arrived.
So I can say that we grew up with 60s and 70s rock music.
Deep Purple...HighwayStar is a must!!❤❤❤
One of the greatest band line-ups in rock history, no question
This song is a mind-blowing masterpiece ❤
Raw talent no lip synching no auto tune no holding back!
It makes me happy that young people like yourself can enjoy the same things that I enjoyed 50 years ago 🙂
The story behind Deep Purple's song 'Highway Star' is bonkers and really highlights just how good they actually were:
They were doing an interview on their tour bus between venues, and the reporter asked them about how they wrote their songs. In response, front man Ian Gillan asked the reporter for a topic (a car was the choice), drummer Ian Paice to give him a beat, and bassist Roger Glover for a bass line. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore then chimed in that he had a riff he thought would work, and John Lord (keyboard) joined in shortly thereafter. Within 15 minutes, the beginnings of 'Highway Star' had taken shape, and it was ready for performance by the time they arrived at their destination.
I’d recommend Highway Star, Hush, Woman from Tokyo, and Smoke on the Water. All 4 are completely different but genius in their own right
This is in the TOP 5 Live Rock performances EVER!
100%!!!
Ian Gillian is one of the greatest singers whose ever lived and this band is straight up amazing. They're the progenitors of progressive metal. You won't be disappointed listening to more of their music. As far as guitar and keyboards interacting, check out Dream Theater
One of the 3 big tenors Pavarotti said that Ian Gillan was a force of nature when he sang, You dont need more recognition than that! I grew up and heard Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin as some of the first rock music...and I have never left it. I grew up in the best time ever music wise!
Jon Lord (RIP) on keyboard was also a genius....and guitarist Ritchie Blackmoore was ahead of his time and a brilliant player...and still is. Ian Gillan still sing to this day. This is music history at its finest.
Great bass too
You have just witnessed one of pioneers of Heavy Metal music & one of the bands that influenced 90's bands!
80s as well.
My favorite band growin up! Ian Gillan had some pipes!! "Woman from Tokyo" and "Lazy" ❤ [Glenn Hughes didn't join Purple til much later]
Drummer Ian Paice is barely 21 years old here. He joined at age 19. Still badass to this day.
And the only original member still in the band.
At his peak he was as good as anyone ever.
This song like bohemian rhapsody are among the best songs ever made, such a masterpiece.
Highway Star, Space Truckin and smoke on the water, 3 more great songs from deep purple, such a fantastic band.
The guitarist Richie Blackmore later formed Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio, who later replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath. When Dio left Sabbath in 1982, he was replaced by Deep Purple's singer Ian Gillian for one album.
Deep Purple's song "Lazy" is definitely not lazy.
A truly elite band from top to bottom.
YYEEESSSS Deep Purple...... and this song is great !!!!!
Another legacy band. The band is at another level. This where all bands get the influence. Huge library of music that inspired metal.
So much realism and soul in these 70's songs!
This was recorded for television. The crowd was told to be mellow.
Jon Lord was a BEAST on keys....and, IAN GILLAN'S VOCALS - and, Ritchie Blackmore & PAICE on the DRUMS - they were ALL tearing it UP!! OMG!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of, if not the greatest bands and guitarist...drummers, bassist, keyboardist, vocals ever!
100%
Ian Gillan, what a voice.
His voice in Jesus Christ Superstar was unworldly!
My favorite band! More Deep Purple please! Highway Star and Smoke on the Water are absolute musts!
Deep Purple - Highway Star
Look at ALL the bands from the 70’s and 80’s, every member was top of their game, no passengers.
You’ve got a lot of listening to do, I live it !!!!!
Let's welcome this young man to real music's world. When talented people make music with real oldscool instruments or their voises, only thing you need computer for is to spread that talent to the world.
I was blessed enough to see Deep Purple with this band lineup. I couldn’t hear for three days. F’ing life changing.
Couldn’t hear the nagging ? Lol
I had the same in 1979, dec 22nd, queen crazy tour of London. Lol
Don't be fooled by the specific performance, as it was in a television studio with a live television audience and they were actually told that they had to be as quiet as possible so that the performance could be recorded with that primitive setting. But there is other live footage from them at the time that looks a lot more like a regular Rock concert with people just going crazy and stuff.
A lot of people when they first see this have that reaction as did i, but the reality is it's a very special situation but we're so lucky to have this footage because you get such good up close footage of them just all totally doing their thing and kicking ass. And the fidelity is great.
Sounds like you're ready for Rainbow's Stargazer. Same guitarist and Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Truly amazing combination.
Nice one Bruce, another man of taste! If we could get him to stretch it to the whole of side two of the vinyl version then I'm sure he'd be a fan for life. Stargazer and Light In The Black (or Stargazer - The Continuation) are two of the greatest rock songs ever written. As a wag once said, "There are two types of people in the world. Those that say Stargazer is the greatest rock song ever written, and those that are wrong."
Have been requesting Stargazer for months! DIO was the rock vocal GOAT!
@@ArtieFufkinPolymerRecordsFACTS!
I love Deep Purple, and the rabbit hole is deep. Ritchie Blackmore is still my favorite guitarist.
Deep Purple is one of those rare bands that sound better performing live. The quality of this video is outstanding considering it's 54 years old. They still perform live and I have tickets to see them this summer.
I believe the audience was instructed to remain silent to avoid any interference with the sound or performance.
You can thank the audience for such a fine recording.
They asked the audience to remain quiet as they would be recording.
Ian Gillan had a 5 octave range.
Smoke on the Water
Lazy Highway Star
........
" he's got a good voice though......" Understatement of the Century. Great reaction though, you got it !
Ian Gillan is a rock vocal god!
70's bleeding into the 80's music feels like a journey. They go through a whole saga in every song. Def explains the length and breadth (ground they cover in each track) of the songs.
One of my top 10 favorite live rock performances in history. MetallicA's #1 main influence was Deep Purple. Wish I was in the audience, those lucky bastards lmfao.
Deep purple legends 🤘💚💛♥️stunning song thank you
Cream, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Nazareth, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf, Three Dog Night, and many others had great influence over my decision to embrace heavy rock-n-roll. I was born in 1960 and grew up with this genre of music.
Perfect line up, but you forgot Uriah Heep.
Deep purple was like an all star band 💜
My grandkids 15 + 17 are crazy about "my" music and cant get enough of nanas bands
Always gets me how Roger Glover is just shredding the bass line throughout Richie Blackmore’s solo
You will get to witness a truly great live band performing at their best. Heads up, the audience were instructed to not react to the live recording. Enjoy bro.
Can you imagine? I’d be there trying not to headbang, and for sure trying not to make “whaaaaaat?” Faces the whole way through lol.
And I would have been like, 4! Lol
Every time I see this performance I can't imagine sitting in the audience and being able to keep still you can't pay me enough money I'd be grabbing the person next to me by the ears and just be like are you hearing this!!!
He sounds like a goat getting graped
If this was filmed in the UK, audiences did not react like American audiences. They sat, watched and then clapped back in these days. Not sure they were instructed to do so, it’s just how they were.
Jon Lord is one of the greatest rock musicians of all time. Classically trained.
Banger of the 70s .... Goosebumps evertime ....
Across so many live performances the interplay between Jon Lord on keyboards and Ritchie Blackmore on guitar was just mesmerising. Two absolute masters of their instruments and two of the absolute greatest names in rock. Blackmore inspired me to take up the guitar, and I have never been able to come close to what he could do. My all time guitar hero.
You're listening to one of the greatest rock groups in history. This is true musicianship. There's nothing like this nowadays.
All members with superb talents. Their album Machinehead is iconic. This band made me fall in love with the organ.
Don't miss the lyrics though. He's singing about the horrors of war.
As most people will say in these comments, an amazing performance by ALL band members, vocals, guitar, drums, bass and keyboard and LIVE !!
Deep Purple was recognized officially as the loudest band ever
Whoever said that never saw Atomic Rooster! Lol
@@AlBarzUK or Motorhead.
Epic! These Guys and Black Sabbath ARE the Roots of Metal, this is where it all began!
Thank you! It saddens me that Sabbath gets all the glory for "creating" Metal when DP were just as important. Even in their psychedelic days (pre-dating BS) they had a bunch of heavy songs. I love both and they both brought different, but very important aspects to the genre.
And dont forget Uriah Heep.
@@RJ-nz5jn Steppenwolf too, but I named the Giants...
@@scottmatzeder9162 It's just that Heep gets no recognition. ☹
That keyboard blaaaa blaaa blaaa was Flight of the Butterfly. He was showing off his classical training. John was a master.
Every member a true legend. Jon Lord on keyboards, Ian Gillan singing, Ian Paice drumming, Roger Glover on bass, and the incomparable Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. You should check out Rainbow (also with Blackmore on guitar) and their song 'Stargazer'.
100% Check out Rainbow Stargazer! DIO is a vocal legend! ( RIP RJD)
Deep Purple has some crazy talent in their band! You are about to find out! Unbelievable musicianship! 🤘🖕🎸
This is an incredible song! Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover are a force to be reckoned with!
don't forget Jon Lord
Or the magnificent Ian Paice, one of the best ever.
Fastest and smoothest hands in the business. His drum solo from Copenhagen 1972 is insane.
Yep, never flustered, drives it relentlessly forward and I concur, got the dvd of that show and I'm staggered every time I watch it.
It's a must to hear the whole "Deep purple in rock"...
Their bassist is great and often overlooked as well. I’ve played some of his bass lines. It’s a test of endurance
From a dedicated thrash metal, death metal fan……. Purple. BANGER.!!!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
😮 Wooow!!
This performance is an eargasm 🖤!
I'm not sure what i enjoyed more - listening to this old classic or watching someone discover it for the first time ! 🙃
I literally said "oh yes!" out loud and clicked instantly. I hope you go huge bro, you're great. empathy, realness, kind way of speaking etc. props to you, cheers! ✌💚
This is the birthplace of heavy metal. I'm glad that you enjoyed this.
I've seen this performance video maybe 100 times and it is captivating each and every time. What an amazing band!!
I saw Deep Purple in 1972 and in 1973 very Awesome.
"It's kind of slower and more mellow than what I expected." This made me smile. One of their most powerful songs, member of the unholy trinity: Sabbath, Zep, Deep Purple. The origins of it all.
I too was chuckling when Mollyboy said it was mellow...knowing what was coming up! It is nice to have him be exposed to the talent and virtuoso musicianship of progressive rock like this!
Ps...I'm the Patreon who has been requesting this for months
You are young. I love your honesty. I am an old fart. UK had the best groups since forever. American play to a formula. British Bands (and comedy) are pushing boundaries. e.g Bowie could never have been American. Monty Python could never have been American. And I am not British and not American. So no bias. British music is BRILLIANT.
Deep purple at one time in the 70s were the loudest band in the world, they knocked 3 of their audience unconscious with the sound. I saw them a the Kings Hall Belveiw uk in 1974 and I was deaf for days.
Great year, 1970...made my debut!
They really had that crowd going crazy.
This track is the pinnacle of what can be achieved with just 3 chords performed by 5 virtuosos, it still gives me goosebumps when I hear it 50 years on.
That's the live 1970 version , the studio version has a little bit different guitar solo , you'd probably like that one also . Deep Purple has a bunch of jammin tunes , it's hard to go wrong with them !
One of the godfathers of rock
🔥 one of greatest rock bands of all time ✌🏻
Highway Star for guitar and keyboard hijinks my man! Your reaction is why I love these types of channels because I think ( I could be wrong) that you'd have never come across this music on your own or listened to it. Thanks for the video.
You’re absolutely right. Without this channel, I don’t think I’d ever have listened to half the songs I have
@@MollyBoyTV
Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan was the biggest influence on Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson.
Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple are credited with pioneering a genra.
They are a british band. The drummer from my hometown of Nottingham, and keyboard player from Leicester.
Deep Purple Machine Head was one of my 1st albums I got from my record club , you need to hear Highway Star, Smoke On The Water, and Space Truckin some of Deep Purples best you'll ❤ them 😅
DEEP PURPLE FOREVER!!!!
Definitely do more Deep Purple, you will not be disappointed!!
A truly fantastic and obviously very honest reaction! A breath of fresh air! Welcome to the Purple Rabbit Hole - Beware! You could spend the next few decades reacting to their music and the numerous top bands that have sprung up from the Purple Family Tree! Heard this so many times, including the reactions, but this was very special as your talent was as natural as theirs was! You will know one of their riffs for sure - Smoke On The Water! Hard to miss that one whoever you are .... 5 truly talented musicians, totally at the top of their game - but all in one band. Their albums are all reaction material, but, as in this one, it's the live versions which prove to be even better. Their Made In Japan double-album is truly iconic and unbelievable - as it was released completely unedited. Jon Lord on the Hammond organ was who attracted me to the band in the first place and, although I haven't counted them all, there won't be many tracks that don't have some kind of organ solo or major influence in them. The guitarist went on to form Rainbow with Dio - another incredible selection to be considered too, especially a small story combining Stargazer & Light In The Black. As a suggestion I would go for Highway Star next and the unedited live version off of Made In Japan. Hope you enjoy your journey and sincerely looking forward to any that you can supply us with! Good Luck!
If 2024 was in the dictionary, your picture would be in it.😂Thanks for great reaction! 👍!!😂
There a very few people that look as cool as Ritchie Blackmore on stage. Like maybe 4 or 5 other people.
