that’s the best part of floyd to me, whether you’re a baby boomer, millennial or a gen x or gen y, once you hear it there’s no denying that they made some of if not THE best music of all time
Watching younger people getting turned on to Floyd makes me wish I could go back and hear it for the first time all over again. But on the other hand, I’ve heard these songs so many times that they just feel like and old friend come to call. Breathtaking, is it not?
You have to remember all the music you’re listening to is not sourced from elsewhere, not sampled. Not copied. The music, the talent, the use of instruments, synthesizers, the electric guitars, the Hammond organ, the drum riffs-ALL original from man’s mind, imagination. It isn’t studio created or synthetically played. It is pure, raw talent and is timeless. The music exploded from the soul of each person playing it. The diversity of music created during the 70’s, 80’s was magical. There is no other word to describe it. Each tune and each musician, each lyric and lick transported a generation. I am 64 and love it like I did then!!! Play it loud!!!!
Well said! I'm 67 and I'm loving all these tunes I honestly haven't heard in a bit. Re-loving them all over again. Lots of incredible memories this stirs up.
This song was written for Syd Barrett, one of original band members that they had to leave behind due to drug problems and mental problems. They never forgot him and this shows that. Not only were these guys musical geniuses but their lyrics are always pretty deep. Longtime PF fan here and glad to see you enjoy and grow in great music. Great review, always like seeing the faces of the younger generations when they hear this band and especially this masterpiece of a song! Looking forward to next review!
@@keiththompson8922I'm not sure it was this particular song, the way I heard it Syd came to the studio when they were recording and guys didn't recognize him at first, he was basically a shell of the man he used to be, his eyes were hollow as black holes which shocked them the most among other changes. Strangly enough he showed up in studio while they were recording and none of his bandmates recognized him for a while until he started asking where his guitar was.
PINK FLOYD does that to EVERYONE!!! ❤❤ I wouldn't call it boring - I'd call it enjoying the depth of the music, talent, and lyrics of a phenomenal band...as many will say: Pink Floyd is not to be listened to: it's to be EXPERIENCED!! GREAT REACTION! CHEERS!

I should add, I was lucky enough to go to art college in the 80's when it was free, I'm a working class council estate kid so wouldn't be able to do that today, I studied painting and in my first year exhibition I did a painting called Welcome to the Machine based on the song from the same album as this song, Wish You Were Here, based on growing up in a Welsh slate mining town, so this song always pulls on my heart strings, it's great to watch you appreciating this amazing music btw.
God, I love Pink Floyd. This is the thing about rock n roll. It brings you to emotions you never knew you had or even knew existed. When I really need to feel I go to Pink Floyd..
As an old (by your standards) guy (68) I love seeing your reactions to the music that I grew up with. Watching your expression as the music evolves and you start to understand where it's going gives me the warm fuzzies. Pink Floyd is timeless music and it's good to see you enjoying it as much as I did and still do!
I was born in 1960, so i heard all these great songs when they came out, your first time reactions brings me back and is fun to watch, now seeing you not want to comment during the song is normal and the thing to do, the music is so good, to stop and commment is unbalansing the rythm of the song, it's great that now youre reacting at the end, I enjoy watching your face reactions during the songs, and some comments without stopping, yes, 70's music is the best, enjoy.
Try 'Run like hell' from the Pulse concert. The beginning is special with David making such great guitar sounds, and then the violent ending. Such a great song. My friend told me 'you are very patient' when listening to Floyd. You have to be-they give you such incredible stories and sounds and the buildups in the beginning, their solos, their long and drawn out songs ARE what make them so special.
Sitting in our parked cars ( because gas was too expensive) but with a great stereo system, maybe a joint or two . Bliss . This was how we spent many happy hours as kids in the seventies, just loving the sound and being so happy with the experience ☮️
Pink Floyd demands long attention spans. Like many of their contemporaries they delve into Classical and Jazz formats and merge them with rock and blues. This entire album is an example. Nice reaction :)
Thanks so much for reacting to this one. Just want to say before I watch that there is a second part to this: "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI - IX)" You definitely would want to listen to that one if you like this one.
When I listen to this song... so do my neighbors... without complaint. Songs like this made them my top favorite band .... since I was a child in 1968. I'm 60 now and still consider them my band
This song was written years after the song’s subject, their original singer, lost his mind due to Schizophrenia and lots of LSD. He went home and lived with his parents, significantly disabled, for many decades to come until he died. The craziest thing is, he randomly turned up at the studio, years after anyone had seen him, confused, weird and almost unrecognisable - literally while they were recording this song about him…. Talk about a mindfuck
@lisacoleman6928 There's even a creepy photo of Syd, bald, fat and without eyebrows looking into the studio where the band was recording this. Poor guy. 😪 I don't care for his era of the band. Js.
Im 63 and have heard this song several times but it still just pulls you in every single time! Im so happy you younger generation are discovering " our " music! Now i hope you can understand how we think most of today's music sucks? Its not music! Its all computerized and they are not musicians at all. Great reactions ❤❤❤
I can't believe you got to experience Pink Floyd - Shine on You Crazy Diamond AND Metallica - Orion the same day. That's like winning a lottery jackpot. Another great instrumental by Pink Floyd is Marooned.
I used to wake up to this every morning! It makes a great intro to the day if you have a timer on your sound system!! Put the kettle on when the key changes at the beginning (8.00), and when the tempo changes (15.00) it's time to finish coffee and get moving!!
I've watch several of your reactions and it was this one that made me subscribe. Your doing a great job, both you and your girlfriend. For context I'm a 60 year old man and lived this music in real time. I spent all my money on records and stereo equipment and would sit and listen for hours every day and night with me and some good buddies in my room. The only portal back then for discovery was word of mouth or a good FM radio station. We didn't have video and would stare at the album artwork and liner notes. I feel I grew up in the greatest era of music and lifestyle.
Seen Floyd many times over the decades and its always a treat. I just hate that so many reactors who are now experiencing the music of these bands dont really have a shot to see them anymore. If they do come around tickets will not be cheap for these bands. Anyway, that is the album cover for Wish You Were Here, they have 2 versions ofthe cover. I have them both on vinyl.
As a young teenager I was on a language school in Hastings, the U.K. I loved to learn the new language and walk around as a young adult (or soon to be) on my own in a foreign country but I was also home-sick and missed my girlfriend back home in Sweden. I was already an entrenched pink floyd fan. Walking there in old town I hear a busker playing "Wish you were here" and I sat down and listened. Our eyes met, it was as if saw that it meant something special to me. It was a great moment. I offered some coins in his hat and he thanked me and headed off to a tea house (yes not a pub).
I'm 68, and I listen to Pink Floyd every day still. Headphones on...at full volume. I am so happy to see a young man discover their music.! You need to watch the live albums...then you'll be totally blown away!
Comfortably Numb live performance from Pink Floyd Pulse concert in London - with guitar solo by Dave Gilmour rated by many people as the best guitar solo ever.

I love to watch your reactions! You’re so sweet and young and I am so happy to see your generation appreciate Pink Floyd! I feel their music touched people emotionally. The founder, Syd Barrett was ahead of his time. Unfortunately, he had some issues with psychedelics. That’s another story. But Syd passed away of pancreatic cancer in 2006. He left the band back in the late 1960’s. The band mates were haunted by his having to leave the band. But if you research Roger Syd Barrett, you’ll find out what happened to him.. so sad. Keep up with your reactions.. I love when you look directly into the camera! I feel you and what you’ve heard. Magnificent! Love from USA!
I was aged 15 when 'Wish You Here' came out and I couldn't get to the record shop quick enough. Also, it was the first album I'd heard in headphones and I can't think of anything better to hear in cans, it blew me away! And another thing - I heard about its release through hearsay and not like todays multi-media hype
Wish You Were Here is my favourite Pink Floyd album. Every song on it is famous. And SOYCD is, in my opinion, one of the best things ever recorded. It's often written that it was dedicated directly to Syd Barrett, but all the members deny it. Roger Waters says in an interview that it was inspired by the story of their friend and founder of Pink Floyd. I don't know if anyone has written this before, but I must mention a well-known story connected to this recording: when Pink Floyd recorded this track at Abbey Road studios in London on June 5, 1975, Syd Barrett had not been with them for over seven years. In the middle of the recording, a chubby, balding, eyebrowless guy appeared in the studio, wearing canvas pants and a tank top and holding a plastic bag. At first no one paid him any attention, but after a while David Gilmour says: "For God's sake, do you know who that is?". No one recognized him. "It's Syd!" He's changed so much in that time (to give you an idea - Syd used to be an incredibly handsome dashing and vital young man). Everyone was taken aback and couldn't believe it. They exchanged just a few sentences and then he left without saying goodbye. Roger and David burst into tears. Here on UA-cam are some videos in which they remember Syd (not only Pink Floyd). It's interesting to watch them just to get an idea of what a great musician, performer, composer and musical experimenter he was. It's speculation, of course, but in reality he may have been a megastar...
"Shine On.." is absolutely written about Syd. It is "Wish You Were Here" the song that Roger denies was written specifically about Syd although just about everyone assumes it was.
Shine on is for Syd, you can guess it by the initials of Shine on You crazy Diamond, it makes SYD if you add the initials. But i think it was Wish you were here that wasn’t about Syd barrett even if a lot of people think so

Had to go back and watch your journey discovering the magic of the classics.
Me too! I love this kid. He makes me feel like I am hanging out with my little brother, turning him on to all my fav bands 😊
Deeper and deeper the Pink Floyd rabbit hole goes, I'm really enjoying following you on your journey my friend, 🙂 God Bless
Sit back and let the music transport you.
Looking forward to pts 6-9, which I personally think are just a skosh better. All of it is beautiful, though. Pink Floyd never fails. 🤘🏽💗
Sitting in our parked cars ( because gas was too expensive) but with a great stereo system, maybe a joint or two . Bliss . This was how we spent many happy hours as kids in the seventies, just loving the sound and being so happy with the experience ☮️
Think this is my favorite Floyd..so hard..but love this one.
Pink Floyd demands long attention spans. Like many of their contemporaries they delve into Classical and Jazz formats and merge them with rock and blues. This entire album is an example. Nice reaction :)
Great to see younger people enjoy these oldies just like we did back then
50 years ago Pink Floyd were already 200 years ahead of everybody!
You make a old Floydian of over 50 yrs smile& make me happy, Bravo 👏👏👏🥰
This brings me to 16-years old, laying on my bed in the dark. Just completely lost in the experience.
R.I.P. Syd Barrett
Thanks so much for reacting to this one. Just want to say before I watch that there is a second part to this: "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI - IX)" You definitely would want to listen to that one if you like this one.
Every Pink Floyd song will be your new favorite😊
When I listen to this song... so do my neighbors... without complaint.
Songs like this made them my top favorite band .... since I was a child in 1968.
I'm 60 now and still consider them my band
Their music will take you where ever you what to go
What you feel is real music.
It's nice to know that you have become such a fan of Pink Floyd. I've been a fan for 50 years . So cool to be able to share this moment.
Thats TRIPPY as eff!!!
Listening in slack-jawed wonder is a perfectly appropriate way to react to Pink Floyd!
I told you you would love this tribute to Syd.
I feel that way too....just to have been on the earth at the same time PF made this music is just a miracle to me...❤❤❤❤
I have always found this number to be breathtaking ….. shivers down the spine stuff.
Wait until you hear parts VI-IX. They're even better, IMO.
Just one thing to say my friend you are listening to Pink Floyd the greatest progressive rock band ever to exist in the world.
Let’s give David some acknowledgment.What a superstar!
Fantastic reaction.
Welcome to The world of Pink Floyd.
Keep Rockin'🎸

Pink Floyd the cerebral poets of rock ‘n’ roll
As a young teenager I was on a language school in Hastings, the U.K.
I loved to learn the new language and walk around as a young adult (or soon to be) on my own in a foreign country but I was also home-sick and missed my girlfriend back home in Sweden. I was already an entrenched pink floyd fan. Walking there in old town I hear a busker playing "Wish you were here" and I sat down and listened. Our eyes met, it was as if saw that it meant something special to me. It was a great moment. I offered some coins in his hat and he thanked me and headed off to a tea house (yes not a pub).
Pink Floyd is an album experience. You should listen from beginning to end.
Listen to the whole Pulse Concert live performances.....you will be utterly blown away!!
Great reaction to one of my favourite Pink Floyd songs, so glad you enjoyed it too
The wall is a double album and it tells a whole story.
I just love how quickly you FEEL the music and now youre even hearing the lyrics....amazing ....hooray....carrying this treasure to a new generation...music real music played and sung by real singers and players and creative artists....chills
I love to watch your reactions! You’re so sweet and young and
I am so happy to see your generation appreciate Pink Floyd!
Me too I was fifteen years old
Dave Gilmour is one of the all time greatest guitarists
Seen Floyd about a dozen times and they never let you down
The band that launched a million trips. Peace ✌️
But i think it was Wish you were here that wasn’t about Syd barrett even if a lot of people think so
I've just stumbled on your channel. I get a real buzz out of watching youngsters react to Floyd, the band I grew up listening to. Most are positive and for good reason, they understand the musical and lyrical quality entering their brain and soul. I see from your reaction that you get it man. Get on board the Floyd train, it's so good for the soul. Good luck with your channel amigo. 🌻🙏
This was the first album I bought.
