I saw L. Z. the 21st of June 1972 in Denver. 4 hours long, great concert. Then I was deployed to the Vietnam war.. Zeppelin helped me through a tough time . They truly are the Greatest Rock Group of All Time...

Plant and Bonham were young but Page was a veteran. JPJ was also experienced. Page was a sought after studio pro as a teenager and had been around the block by 1968. Even so, Page was still only 24 in 1968.

We were 15 years old. We were in our school cafeteria. Someone said, "You have to hear this". He was right. I still love this album and this song always reminds me of that moment. Saw them in August and November of that same year in Toronto. Awesome band.

The Beatles, the Who, the Doors, Rolling Stones, Cream, Floyd, the Kinks, Procol Harum, Fleetwood Mac, the Hollies, Hendrix .... and so many more great bands from back then, we had such a great variety of music with incredibly talented musicians, a very special time indeed.
Thank you for your reaction to GTBT, a great opener to a debut album with all members showcasing their individual and collective talent.

The album was recorded in about 36 hours and Jimmy paid the studio fees out of his own pocket. Zeppelin wasn't even signed to a label yet; they recorded the album, Jimmy produced it, then he and their manager, Peter Grant went directly to Atlantic Records with a complete product in hand for them to listen to and sign the group. Atlantic gave them (for that time period) an unprecedented advance. In addition, Jimmy and Peter insisted the band/Jimmy have full artistic control, from the album cover artwork, to the songs, the running time, the arrangement - you name it - plus, they insisted they would NOT produce singles. "Album Oriented Music" on the then burgeoning FM signal was becoming the way to go instead of pop music's top 20 or 10 on AM radio. They were musical visionaries both in and out of the studio.

Didn’t hear it on the radio, except maybe on FM “aor” (album-oriented rock). Their first single in the US was Whole Lotta Love from LZ II. Yes, despite all the great music then, they blew us away.

The bands first rehearsal was on August 19,1968, Plant turned 20 the next day, Bonham had turned 20 on May 31,1968. What’s really amazing is about 3 weeks before that, Page & JPJ had no idea who Plant & Bonham were. Page & JPJ knew each other, & Plant & Bonham were best friends, since they were about 13 or 14. This album was recorded about the end of September, or early October, over 4 days & about 30 hours start to finish. The signed a great contract with Atlantic Records, around November 20th, & the album was released on January 12,1969. So much in such a short time, & it’s one of the greatest debut albums of all time.
If you decide to do some lives from this album, some great footage from their Royal Albert Hall concert in (1970). Including a great 15 minute drum solo by Bonham, called Moby Dick, Bonham played that solo over 200 times at some point of a 3 to 4 hour nonstop concert. You’ll find there’s so many amazing songs you never heard, & several different genres, with several true masterpieces. Thank you once again for your reaction, I look forward to taking this journey with you.

Bonham was ahead of his time. He did those bass drum triplets with a single pedal. Many drummers have dual pedals today to achieve that type of effect.

First song off their first album. You mentioned in an earlier reaction how each member was allowed to shine. This song really shows how Jimmy Page tapped into the strength of each member. John Bonham killing it on drums with triplets, Robert Plant hitting the sustained high notes, JPJ holding down a kicking bass line. You're right, this blew us all away. And when you put this in it's historical perspective, the rest of the music industry was wrapped up in the folk-hippy-Woodstock scene while Led Zeppelin was taking music in a much heavier, complex direction. (LOL...I'm writing this as I'm viewing and every time I write something you come right back and say the same thing. I'll let you take over now).

This Zeppelin album by album and live performances will be the journey of a lifetime! You will not believe their live performances as well!! This is the most diverse band ever as well!! 4 extremely talented musicians that the Lord himself brought together! Each are the best at what they did. Anf Jimmy Page PRODUCED ALL THEIR ALBUMS!

Having seen them live on several occasions you can see the difference quite easily over time ; so good idea to do some progression.

I was only 10 when Zep-1 was released, but we were brought up in the age of the Beatles and Stones and Radio played EVERYTHING regardless of genre, so 1st time hearing Zeppelin was still very different from what was being played on what was then commercial AM radio. We all knew we were listening to greatness and it only got better.

Most people do Led zeppelin reactions just to get clicks , you actually get it. Led Zeppelin released very few. singles they made albums. You've made a good choice. And you will see Why It was a good choice as you get down this rabbit hole.

Nat bad for late 68. This whole debut album is fire. Hell , all their albums are fire. And yes , John Paul Jones can walk nicely up and down on the Bass. Great on Keys as well as Mandolin. Bonham and his heavy hands make up the best rhythm section ever.

Led Zeps last studio album sounds nothing like their first album. I became interesed after hearing Stairway,,, back in 1979/1980. Then I heard two songs from In Through the Out Door. I bought a cassete of Led Zeppelin I and is was nothing like I expected. They were so blusey. I actually love that but they were so raw and pushing boundaries. Im glad i was a fan. My friends thought I was nuts for listening to Zep. They liked forgettable top 40 songs, Casey Kasem stuff.

Of course I've heard Led Zeppelin songs. I even say at the beginning of this video and other times during the video that I have heard this song. That's why the title says 1st reaction and not 1st time hearing. Thanks for the comment, and I hope you have a great day!
