How would you approach a change to Primal Ancients?

    • @MrGilfred
      @MrGilfred 3 роки тому +19

So you would add an upgrade ancient to primal ancient. What about two other recipes. First reforge a primal that stays primal just changes stats. Then the next recipe would be one that converts a primal into another primal.
All could be expensive to do and would take a lot of investment to use where players wouldn't have all thirteen slots filled with nothing but primals within the first few weeks of a season. Nor are they likely to do so within an entire season either.

It was a very good solution! One thing i had in mind is that we could drop something like a Primal Token, an item that would let you turn an ancient piece you want into primal! Would solve the randomness issue quite a bit. They could even make it rare. Be something like ralamadnis gift :)
      What do you think?

I love the concept of Primal Ancient dust. It got me thinking of how you could diversify Kanai’s with it, and I came up with combining a Primal Ancient piece with Ramaladri’s and a weapon of our your choice. The result would be a primal ancient weapon that you could set with a Legendary Gem.

I love the idea of PA dust from salvage, then using that in the cube to upgrade a garbo legendary. This would make the game light years more enjoyable/playable. 15 FS from PA salvage is unbelievably lame. Especially when we're getting multiple mats from Ethereal salvages

    • @armorvil
      @armorvil 3 роки тому +17

The problem with that idea though, is that it would make the process very linear. IE, sink enough time into the game gathering dust, and your character will end up with full primals. That's not very fun. Randomness is what makes this game fun, the idea that you could find anything at any time. This would just make decking out your characters like paragon leveling : a long linear process in which you just fill a "you win" gauge since you'd go from 0 dust to the number you need to create your primal. IMO, the whole idea of Primals being perfect ancients is just flawed. They should just go back to their previous iteration, when Primals were kinda like Ethereals (more powerful than Ancients to the point where you could create a whole new build around them).

Not bad ideas. So in other words:
      1) Hellfire Ancients
      2) Overhauled Ubers
      3) Primal Dust
      4) Recipe
      Task
Salvage Primal Ancient Legendary items to gain Primal Dust. Farm overhauled Ubers to gain a bunch of other required materials. Have an Ancient Legendary item you wish to shackle into a Hellfire Ancient Legendary item at your disposal and add all the ingredients into the cube.
      Limitations
      1) Cleanse the Heretic's Abode.
Cube's power is restricted as the demonic Uber essence interferes the process. Eradicate this force to lift this binding.
      2) Cleanse the Vault.
Cube's power is restricted as Greed's Quarterstone of Gluttony interferes the process. Destroy it to lift this binding.
      3) Cleanse the Ancient Tower.
Cube's power is restricted as the demoness Nereza interferes the process. Undo her solemn reign to lift this binding.
      4) Apply the recipe.
A surgence of shadow power is cast over Sanctuary. World becomes darker, enemies seek wielders and cube is devoid of energy.
In order to use the cube again, one must energize it by feeding it with the shadow power it released into the world. Defeat all the foes affected by the taint and the cube can be used again.
While the taint lingers outside the cube, shadows are seen to take the shapes of fallen noble warriors and pitting them against the nephalem.
      New item tier: Shadoweaved!
A bit similar to Ethereals, in power and as we may only equip one of these mode-bound items at any given time, these items instead are crafted with the cube and shadow power is used as a core ingredient. Wielded item changes the looks of the toon, based on the item type, when they cast a transform skill and the items grant a transmog for each unique one.
      Edit:
Strength and rewards of the shadow power surge is equal to the highest toon-specific achieved Greater Rift level.

  • @sachiel123
    @sachiel123 3 роки тому +15

I like the idea. I would tweak it a little: the base item must be ancient AND the rolls this base item be the same as the primal and cannot be rerolled after you make the primal. With 2b of each material on console it still takes atleast an hour of rolling the cube to get an item primal, even then it might not be a good roll so youd have to go for another hour just to try for some better stats on the item. I love the idea of Primal Dust and that you can then upgrade a legendary item into a primal ancient. I even love the idea of the additional costs being spread over all the other mats as it makes those areas of the game more relevant.
I think there should be a second recipe with a slightly lower cost that allows rerolling an ancient to the same ancient with different stats. It would suck using the first recipe and getting a suck fest primal.
I don't get excited when I find a primal, even if it is an item type I would use, because chances are that it will have the wrong stats on it. And hell... The right stats will even change over the course of a season. In the beginning you want primary stats on almost all your gear, but as you gain more and more paragon levels, other things start to become more important. But If I knew I could salvage the primal if it was the wrong type, even if it was expensive and that I could then reroll the stats for a slightly cheaper price, then I would get excited at all primal drops. And that really is what we want to see.

  • @KSechrist

You want to fix them? When they drop, they're not general loot pool, instead your loot pool is any piece of gear you or follower were wearing. Keep letting them roll VIT and Cooldown and all the crappy stats, but it'll always be a piece of gear you want.

if they went that route it would have to be expanded to only dropping ancient primal versions of items you've equipped during that whole season. Problem is, I doubt any of us play as much as Raxx, so we shouldn't use him as the example for how many PA am average person gets. If we have to trade any number of PA for a random PA, the problem is still going to be there I think. I don't know what the number of PA the average person gets, but let's say average person gets 15 a season. And if it takes 3 SA =a random SA. We have 5 chances in a whole season to get a decent SA.. but those chances are just as low considering we have to get an actual item we use and with the correct stats. What that's doing is instead of giving the average person 15 DA a season, it's giving the average person 20 DA a season. And if we look at Raxx, with his 90 worthless PAs or however many, we see 20 is not enough. We need a way to turn a current primal into another primal without using a primal as an ingredient.

It's tough enough to get an ancient with the right stats anyhow. I've never used primals as they've never dropped with the correct stats for me. I've always gotten away with mediocre ancients to get the job done. And it will make uber runs interesting as they've just been there without any purpose for most of Diablo 3. 1 ) you can wear only x number of thoses crafted Primal(doesn't prevent you to wear 13 - x number of normal dropped primal)
    2) they could make that recipe available only in season(prevent non-season abuse)
    3) eventually delete thoses crafted Primal items at the end of the season but im not very fond of this one
    4) Allow a restricted number of craft per season, that would give non-season player a reason to play the season even if it's for a short period of time
    5) Craft allowed if certain GR rank is reached, like the GR 70 that allow you to drop Primal

I think the whole game sucks, "rare" items become salvage material later in the game, in reality there's no rare items in the game, just a large pool of items that repeat over and over. I don't understand why didn't they make real rare items that only drop as rarely as primals, but are actually useful to your class and don't belong in the same large pool of trash. Make them have 2 or even 3 sockets by default, or ability to put additional legendary gems, or unique abilities that can augment your build to do stuff you couldn't do before. The game becomes so boring so fast, and it's so frustrating because it had a really good potential to develop into something bigger. The guys in Blizzard just don't have any inspiration to make this game grow, the graphics are getting better by each iteration, but gameplay is stuck in ARPG grind, no trading, no pvp, no activities besides grinding for XP and same shitty items over and over.

  • @HumanTimeMachine

Since upgrade rare can result in PA AND reforge legendary can result in PA. Having a dust that lets you guarantee a primal of your choice would be redundant. You just said It yourself, “the game already makes it easy for you, in 2 days you can run with a meta build” that is the easy part, PA is the frustrating element, it’s like grinding for paragon or gems for caldisans, there is no shortcut but to do the work. You’re just trying to justify a more meaningful resource by salvaging primals and then guaranteeing a specific item to be primal, by that logic we should make ancient dust and guarantee a specific item becomes ancient. Like you said game already makes it easy for you. Stop whining, start grinding.

  • @kilis1332
    @kilis1332 3 роки тому +1

An even easier solution to Primals not being on items you want is to simply disallow primal drops on items that have no legendary property, are not 6piece sets, or set jewelry.
This would leave the crafting part alone so you can still make primal crimson/augilds and even reforge some garbage nutcracker into primal if you wanted for the memes. Its not perfect and there are plenty of items with terrible legendary properties but it would skim off the top layer of garbage with super minimal effort. I would imagine its a toggle like effect because they disallowed ancients/primals from the set reroll cube recipe. So in theory its easy.
Personally I would just remove those garbage legendaries with no powers straight up, which would also solve the problem, but i can understand why they may not want to.

Primal solution 1) Reduce loot table for primal drops to only encompass set items, weapons with an affix on them (90-95% class played drop, 5-10% other class played) solution 2) Add simplest possible recipe in the cube of dumping 2 (unwanted) primal items to reroll a completely new random primal (maybe this time a useable primal if not, save and gamble again) 3) If adding new salvage materials (ie PA dust) to implement some kind of new primal recipe making, it would be nice to implement some changes to solo player (followers) that if you did rifts solo with a follower and killed the RG, you get a (for example) 25% chance of dropping a/some PA dust, at T16 with say 5% drop each Torment less and maybe similar for GRs, perhaps even think about adding drops of bounty materials for solo/followers only when just rifting or greater rifting, cause its sucks doing bounties on your own. Just a few ideas.

    My thoughts:
Trash loot is trash. Mid level loot is trash. Non-ancient Legendary loot is trash. Inventory management is THE most pointless, frustrating, time consuming, hellacious, boring, rage-quit inducing trash ever conceived.
If all I’m doing with loot for half my ingame time is running to the blacksmith to salvage trash loot… well… trash.
I’d MUCH rather have NO trash loot drop at all, and just have the loot table filled with mats and a very rare chance at a red beam.
THEN: have a robust crafting system that allows me to create exactly the gear I want. That way gring is meaningful. I have a set goal. I can see how long it will take to collect the mats I need. I’m not on an unknown, unknowable, possibly endless grind for specific pieces of kit that may never drop.
Look at DDO (Dungeons & Dragons Online). There are a number of different crafting systems. Certain set types require running certain content for specific mats. Other, more generic items, require more common mats that drop everywhere. Deconstruction is fruitful, and there is still so much variety that many many many different unique character builds are possible. Different synergies are possible. Strategic depth and uniqueness are preserved.
Rarity is good, grind is inevitable, but having an achievable goal should be paramount to legitimize BOTH grind AND rarity.

My thoughts: Yes, make it extremely expensive to upgrade. I like the uber mat idea and I agree that making more of the content essential is key. I wouldn’t mind having crafting mats similar to the beginning of loot 2.0. I would make these more rare, but similar concept. The random purple “bosses” in adventure need to be spiced up. Having them drop essential mats for the primal recipe would be a great addition IMO. Rifts, GRs and bounties over and over definitely burn us out.

5 primal embers ( you get one ember per primal salvaged)
    10 each of Hellfire materials:
    50 of each bounty.
    5000 of every crafting material.
An ancient of the item you want to upgrade.
Another option would be maybe it costs like 10 GR keys?
It would be a direct upgrade of the item as well. So you would take the time to find and reroll your ancient until you get the stat blocks you want.
The new primal has perfect stats of the same stat blocks your ancient has. To make it different than a natural pull you could make it so it cannot be rerolled.

Giving the possibility to target craft a primal is a terrible idea in itself. It kills the essence of primals and gives botters another upper hand on legit players. Your idea is not new and it has been voiced on blizzard forums for years. It is good until the reagent parts, after you should just be able to use a certain amounts of these to craft another RANDOM primal. It is very important to keep the random in place. The problem is the useless primals, and this way we can use them. Sometimes they'll lead to another useless primal, sometimes it will pay off big. Also the number should not be low. at least 5 primals to 1 , ideal I would say 10 to 1.

This the thing about D3 - they add a new cool mechanic, but limit the hell out of it. Legendary gems? Really cool, but can only use in rings and amulets. Kanai Cube with extracted lendary powers? Nice, but can only have three of those and one of specific item type, so no three weapons powers (meaning most rings and amulets are not worth it). Primal Ancients? Awesome, but super rare and a random item that will never go with your build.
I dunno make one primal a guaranteed drop every fifth greater rift above 100 you clear. You can still get something you will never use, but at least you know there will be one.

  • @MankeyMite

I think the two biggest problems with Diablo 3 are paragon levels, and easily obtained perfect items, being primals. One of the main activities in an ARPG is killing monsters to find loot so you can improve your character. The primals ruin this, as you eventually no longer care about regular legendary drops, as it's just a waste of time since we know it doesn't have perfect stats even before picking it up. For those who play a lot, getting full primal gear is possible, and at that point there is absolutely no reason to pick up anything at all. It should be close to impossible to get perfect rolls on an item, so that you always have improvements to look out for, getting excited when a gear piece you need drops.
By removing the paragon system, every player, casual or not, gets a chance to reach rank 1 on the leaderboard because it would be all about the gear and skill of the player. Players who play more will still be rewarded, as they are more likely to get better gear. Remember how hard it used to be to get a trifecta yellow ring with attack speed, critt chance and critt damage and how excited you got when you found an extremely rare item and later post screenshots to brag to friends and the community?
Right now the seasons are all about leveling up as much as you can, and the last two weeks push the leaderboards. 99% of players are not going to do that, so once they get the gear they need, they quit, as there is no excitement left, which is why most people quit after a couple of days in the season.
And it's just sad, because there is so few changes needed in order to make diablo great again.

you should ask why do they exist.
blizzard wanting everyone to be hyped and happy finding legendarys. well turns out when you give everyone legendary items left and right, they arent legendary anymore at all.
    freakin inflation.
next thing they bring ancients, same shit. inflation, no meaning at all besides cheap content. let them hunt for those new powerfull items. lul
problem! they dont mean anything anymore, they are not rare.
So they invent that primal bs.
Same with seasons, just cheap content.
    Paragon levels, cheap content.
They ruined the game by splitting the already pissed community into normal, normal HC,season, season HC.
After closing the Auctionhouse and implementing their "masterplan".
You can rly feel the disconnect. The Artists and programmers made a very well optimized game that still looks very good and the next gen is ruining it.

I agree with the primal ancient dust idea. That is definitely something missing in the game. Further on that idea, I believe it should require more than 5 of said material, considering that you have likely obtained well over 50 primals by the end of the season. There would also need to be a downside to this recipe...perhaps the item would retain all current stats (including whatever you rerolled) but be reforged in such a way that it cannot be enchanted ever again. The item could be enchanted prior to the recipe's use, but once used, it would solidify the item's stats forever, with all values being pushed to their maximum.
I think that separate to that recipe, there should be a recipe that uses materials only available via the weekly challenge rift (to control and limit its use)...My concept here would name this material an "exalted gemstone". This could be crafted with any primal item which was *NOT obtained by the primal ancient dust recipe**. The exalted gemstone, combined with 15 of each bounty material, 500 death's breaths, and 150 forgotten souls, and any *eligible primal ancient item...would effectively allow you reroll a SECOND stat on said item. When using this recipe, the item would be a labelled an "Exalted Ancient Item", perhaps with a purple border.
This would essentially reduce the frustration of grinding and finally finding that ALMOST perfect item, only to realize that if you could reroll a second stat, that the item would truly be perfect. I do believe this would require the weekly challenge rift to be involved in order to prevent abuse of this power. Additionally, I believe the way this would execute would be that the item would have to have been previously enchanted. The recipe would retain the item's current stats, retainingthe stat that you rerolled...but resetting the item with its current stats, allowing for the item to be enchanted as if it originally rolled the way it was when the recipe was used.
I believe the above strategy would provide a fair way to give your build a sense of finality, without providing a way for players to abuse the game and become overpowered. These recipes couldn't possibly be abused if they require materials only available via the challenge rift.

Numbers 2 and 3 cost twice as much.
Numbers 4 and 5 five times as much.

Having primal dusts is a great way to fix primal ancients. I would suggest a slightly different approach than adding more bounty mats to the "Make Primal" recipe. First, we want something that can work in season + non-season. Second, we want something that rewards people playing a lot. Third, we want something that is not broken that you finish the season full primal.
I would impose a base cost of ~5(or 8 or 10?) primal dusts the FIRST time this recipe is used. Then for the second time (N) the recipe is used, the cost in primal dust (P) would jump to: P + exponential(N). And so on. First primal? Need 5 dust. Second primal? Need 12 dusts. Third primal? Need 25 dusts. Fourth primal? Need 59 dusts. Want to be full primal? Need 162759 dusts! (5 + exp(12)).
That would: Easily reward casual players to have maybe one (their weapon) or two primals. Still reward big players (Raxx, you'd have 3/4 primals by now which seems fair). Make it impossible to finish full primal in non-season. I believe that would solve most of the issues and avoid to farm 10000 veiled crystals, which is admitedlly, not very fun.

What amuses me is that when Blizzard came up with the concept of Primals, their first idea was great : basically, they were like Ethereals : stronger items than were better than perfect ancients to the point where you'd be able to create a whole build around them. But then a ton of crybabies who want to compete with steamers who play close to 24h/24, which is a ridiculous idea, made them backpedal. Ethereals are great because looking for them is worth it, and that's not the case with current Primals.

Bummer Rax. I have found two primal GoD pieces and one was nearly perfect.

when it comes to PA gear it all just plain sucks and is useless, the idea behind PA gear is to find perfect gear imo so my solution though not certain how difficult it would be to implement is to have all stats on a PA roll-able. what i refer too is the ever increasing cost of rolling a single stat to one you want on a legendary expanded to a PA giving the opportunity to gain the PA of desired make over time. each stat re rolled increases the costs of the roll itself, have 5 stats to add? then start with first requiring said items to get the roll and increase each time you roll that stat until luck sways your way and you get it, move on to stat 2 and cost continues to increase and does not reset from first stat getting ever more expensive requiring more of which ever price is attached. as a example first stat cost gold, second stat gold at rate stopped on first stat plus crafting mats, third stat cost where you left off on second stat plus bounty mats, forth stat same as third stat plus hellfire mats, fifth stat cost forth stats plus PA dust (like that idea too) all growing ever increasingly making grinding the whole game have a benefit from beginning to end and due to RND some stat rolls could increase costs to a crazy level making it even great for non season players with endless time on their hands. heck they could even have it where PA gear dropped blank and you had to roll each stat onto it until complete making the stats available in rolls only those that would be normally found on that item as a legendary. probably to difficult to pull off but thats my idea of a great fix

Some great idea's there Rax, for seasons they could even add a cool down on the recipe maybe "14 days" that way it would stop bots being full primal in a week. You have certainly given blizz some food for thought.

I think one way is a new cube recipe that can change any primal to a different primal of the same type. A useless primal ring could be rerolled into a different primal ring. You can reroll legendaries to the same one with different stats so it would be even harder to get what you want by rerolling say a primal blackthorn pants into a different primal pants - still a ton to chose from but at least that useless primal now might become something you would use (it still would not help the 2 follower primals I've gotten).

Primals are good as they are
    they arent rare at all
    good primals are rare
    as they should be.
your primal doesnt have resist all ?
wel to bad just pop in some diamonds and grind some P levels to make up for the lost main stat.
its called finding sulutions to your problems
its part of the game play
also go play some d2.. come cry to me when you just made your BoTD and the stats all rolled low so you have to scrap it again.
    Snowflake generation...jees.

I feel like the majority of the player base don’t play past each season’s season journey. Primal Ancients upgrading are thus not something very relatable nor necessary. They would probably get less than 5 before finishing the last journey requirement and uninstalling for that season.

What about cube recipe that will add legendary power to ancient primal and remove current one? And you cannot mix weapon / armor / jewelry. That salvaging for extra material can be tricky.

I like it. And the stat rolls don't need to be addressed.
5 PA dust + ingredients + Ancient Item rolls a PA of that item with new stats.
To reroll a PA stats just use the same recipe but use the PA instead of the ancient.
Yea it might take a while to get the stats you want but it's doable
