Hey Sean, do you leave the shelters like this up. Or take them down? I have decent amount of private property. I leave my shelter up til they make better fire wood than a shelter. Thank's
Thanks again Shawn for another great video. I have never liked instant coffee. Cowboy Coffee is just about as quick as instant. I use a 700ml titanium cup, fill it about 3/4 full with water, put about two big heaping table spoon of your favorite coffee on top of the water do not stir, ( I like Texas pecan coffee), bring it to a boil and let boil for one minute. take it off the fire/coals, from about 10 inches, poor some water into your coffee coup 1/2 inch to the top. All the grounds should go to the bottom. Reallybigmonkey1 makes a great video on how to make Cowboy Coffee.
I’ll tell you. Some of my favorite memories are me arguing with my best friends dad who is a Korean War vet. He’s a marine who was in the battle of the chosen. “Look it up”. I apologize for the second comment on the same video, but I had to say this. I was getting my 4 yr old son ready for bed. He gives me guff about bedtime. He asked if we can watch an educational video before bed. I said Ok, buddy. One. What would you like to watch? He said, "How about Corporal's corner?" Thanks to your content being what it is, (educational with the occasional over the head of the small fry joke thrown in, )here we are again tonight. Thanks again.
@@recall5811 If you like, you could check out some other bushcrafters I watch that frequently cook tasty meals. Not taking their recipes, but letting them inspire your own creations. Most shelter builds are done in warm dry conditions on yt. I appreciate that you are out there in damp cold environment, building realistic shelters. Kudos for that!!
You talk about teaching and helping, and I just want to say...you rock it. I've learned so much watching your videos, like knots, gear, starting fires using various methods, and of course, the many different combinations of food paired with bacon. Thank you for your service to our country, and to the survival community.
Followed your sub recommendations. Funny story: Once in Afghanistan, my Infantry battalion was on a refit back in Baghram. As was a group of Marine grunts. Some high speed individual with more rank than common sense decided it would be a great idea to put on a flag foot ball game between Army and Marine grunts. Well, it wasn’t “flag” football and it lasted all of about 4 plays before we were all on the field whooping each other’s asses. Good times. Good video, as always, Devil Dog. Carry on!
Hey Joe. Even if I was in, in 82-90 shit never changes. I was stationed in the Philippines we played rugby against them, all I got to say is that 2 of them were corpman..LOL. I was an 0341 mortars. I trained some 11's to do my mos. Semper Fi bro
Thanks for all the great vlogs. You’ve provided the 15 grandkids and 5 kids and myself with many skills, lessons, techniques and recipes. Thanks so much. God bless.
The amount of time and work involved in constructing this shelter is an excellent testimonial to the tremendous value of carrying a 5x7 tarp for emergencies.

Outstanding, Cpl Kelly! Friggin’ OUTSTANDING!!!! Carry on, Brother! Love your video series! I am 62 y/o, farmed most my life, camped when I could; so you can see I love the outdoors. Battling health problems currently and cannot venture far off the beaten path, so hope you do not mind if I live through virtually through you via these videos...Oh yes...Thank you for your service!
No Sir. Life is the real job, and truly living is serious work. So far today almost 3000 people have been able to admire your hard work at your real job, so well done.
Thank you for showing your knots up close. I haven’t seen to many if any of these types of channels do this. We tent camp in the off season on the back side of YNP. We always put up a tarp because it’s MT and well snow happens anytime if the year 🤣. I always need knots to get the tarps secured. Great video thanks 😁
Wow,,, a true man, one that is willing to do things that benifit others.... Now if we could just teach that to the politicians. ... Thanks for sharing your videos. And keep up the good work.
So, I love how you say "truth be told, I eat better out here than I do at home", so me and my dad went out to our hunt camp one night, 4 feet of snow, got stuck 5 times on the snowmobile, took us nearly 3 hours to make a 35 min journey, we made bacon/onion topped steak, a lipton sidekick, and some carrots grilled in bacon/steak juice. Man I swear that was the greatest meal I ever ate in my life, nothing tastes better than some good beef after a long hard trek into a camp. Top it off with some beers, man there ain't anything better in life.
I've been overseas for quite some time. 3 years in AFG, 4 years in Russia, and 2 years in China where I am still. While working at different US Embassies around the world, I've watched all your videos, many of them dozens of times. Thank you for you your outstanding training videos and I hope to see you and the gang at the Pathfinder School in the future. When I get home in late March 2020 I will most likely be in quarantine for 14 days. This will be a perfect time to practice what you and the boys (grey bearded green beret & Dave Canterbury) have taught me. Thank you for your service in the Marines and thank you for what you do. Sincerely, Mike Ray
It takes a lot of effort and dedication to make great content over a long period like you have done and continue to do.Thanks for teaching and sharing through your videos.Great content and of high quality as always
I am ex-military and I am trained in different types of survival situations and combat techniques. I appreciate your videos and the way you present them. I'm a little too hard core with my techniques when teaching my son and grandchildren. Thanks brother. 🤗
Ok, I knew it. The "jam knot" is the second knot taught to me by my Grandfather when just a wee tike (64 couple mos. ago), just a "slipNkeeper". First was the "regular" (overhand) ...third was the trucker (which is what he did since leaving the Navy post WWII). I just never knew the proper names...LOL! I've been watching you for sometime, but this is the first time I believe I've heard you put it so simplistically (simplestoopid). So, THANKS for that 🙂. Congratulations on being able to do what you love for a living. I was also able to finally get into a career I love after 12 years. It's a wonderful feeling. Been doing it now for 6 years and still haven't felt like I've had to go to work. Keep it man, awesome stuff.
hey Corporal Kelly have you done a TeePee ? I'm curious how it would do. i think native Americans had it figured out with a teepee because your fire is inside the tent and it's shape sheds snow well and if anchored well enough could probably handle decent amount of wind. i wonder if anybody makes a lightweight packable teepee?
Im so glad you said how long it takes to build a shelter like that. In my experience most people underestimate how long it takes to build a bushcraft shelter after seeing it in a book. UA-cam is also often deciveing as most other youtubers that build bushcraft or survival shelters never tell the viewers how long it took them. 👍
I was out this weekend and got way cold in the hammock so I built a lean to with a wind block and hung an emergency blanket to reflect my heat in worked awesome and my son got to learn. Thanks corporal!
I'm new to this channel. And when you told me you were full-time and from what I have seen, I knew there was a reason I liked you. Semper Fi Marine. 🇨🇱
Hey Corporal, have you ever made one if them self feeding fires? With the loges stacked in a V at a 45 degree engle so when the center log burns out, the next one falls in place.
pig wrapped with more pig... outstanding... awesome shelter I really like how you show many different ways for doing stuff... it helps to have a greater library of knowledge to draw from when you need it. Thanks Corporal Kelly!!!
of all the jokes in you're vids so far, you've made me chuckle, maybe a little. But congrats, I full on belly roared at the "bear skin rug" one. Outstanding.
I enjoy your overnighters... let's be honest most of us only have an hour, afternoon or overnight to spare to get out in the woods so watching these videos is just real world. keep up the fantastic work Corporal!!!
I am noticing a lot of UA-camrs saying "good to go" I am curious if they are Corporal subs. Lol. We quote the corporal all the time, It kinda "just happened" for us too.
And that is how military guys pick up the same lingo. Lol. That stuff sticks with you for life. Just like when I hear..."40 inches" I finish it with..."back to chest. Lean back and strut. Or "eyeballs"...click. lol
Those bacon wrapped sausage are fantastic. We've fixed them 3 or 4 times now. The bacon cuts the sausage just enough that the sausage doesn't kill my stomach. Last night I made them with chopped cabbage and onions sauteed in bacon grease and some baked beans. Now that was a great meal.
Lots of work on that outing. Lovely setup and again bacon based cooking, loved it. Maybe a couple Canadian cold beers with that meal!!!! Cheers, had a couple watching you work. Thanks.
around here it would be impossible to drive 8 poles into the ground with all the rocks unless you were in a river bottom, maybe you can show us another method ....
Thank you for all your videos. At first i was like this guys jokes are dry. Then I got your sense of humour and laugh at all the jokes. I’m inspired to go out this summer with some bros and build our own structures to live in for the weekend. Thank you.
Metric is easy, Just do not convert it. Just like hand grenades and shot guns. 250 ml is 1 cup = Close enough, LOL. Go from there with the knowledge of American measurements. If you are not baking your golden. If baking all liquids are 8 lbs per gallon, that is back to American= 8oz per cup...... Chef Mike
I looked throughout your Amazon store and cant find the pullover your wearing in the beginning and ending of video. Which one is it??? Another very important question. I was never in the Military, college wasn't in the card so i went to trade school, CDL and Equipment Operator. How do YOU feel about guys like me wearing military logos on clothes??? I never want to be accused of "Stolen Valor" type situations. I was partial to 10th Mountain Div and have many hats n shit that never get worn. When i was young my mindset was not the same as it is now and regret not enlisting. Thanks to you and all Vets. Thank you Dad who was in the Coast Guard.
One of the most fun videos to watch you've made, Devildog. I laughed my ass off at the bacon wrapped sausage-Lorena Bobbit reference. Outstanding work!
Shawn, I'm 65 Years old now. I tell people that " I'm a Cornucopia of Useless Information" as a way to get them to listen to Me, "The Jester"!!! I happen to be one of those "Crazy People" who Really Enjoys Math. I'm still bothered by the fact that when I was in High School someone shared a "Fraction Shortcut" that Everyone in the World Should Know and No-One ever shared before that day! " To find what Half of Any Fraction is, Just Double the Bottom Number" I was Furious that No-One Shared that Info. So, At the Beginning of this video you paced off the distance between the two tree's for your shelter. I'd like to share with everyone that if you reach out at Shoulder Height, From Middle Finger Tip to Middle Finger Tip will measure just about as tall as you are. So, for you that measure is about 6'-1". Quicker than Pacing off. I hope this helps someone out there with some info that they didn't have Yesterday!
Anytime you can have hot coffee on a cold morning in the bush is a good day! I remember 30 years ago dumping 2 or 3 instant coffee packets out of mre’s into my mouth and washing it down with half frozen canteen water. The hot stuff is way better lol. Keep up the good work.
I love seeing someone teaching the fun of bushcraft and survival. Shelter and eating good. I can’t understand the new wave “ultralight backpackers” who think you gear has to way less than 20 lbs because they are walking up to 20 miles in a day. My gear weighed around 100lbs and 20 miles was what we did between cold coffee and an mare for lunch. Lol. Keep it up
As someone who went to girl scouts as a kid solely to learn how to camp/basic survival skills, and was deeply disappointed by the whole "hey let's make crafts, snacks, and go "camping" (aka just sleep indoors in sleeping bags) " stick... I'm so glad I was finally able to find your channel and learn these things as an adult!
I noticed as the years go on you seem more relaxed and laid back growing out your beard and all, the military still shows through. Thanks for the video.
Multi level of educational video. Building shelter and learning to eat like a king/queen in the woods. Another bacon extravaganza tune in next week when corporal Kelly will make a bowl of bacon bits ceareal
@@recall5811 you are the real deal. Being a subscriber to your channel has been a joy. Sharing your knowledge with others is a noble thing to do and years from now somebody will be sitting around a camp fire explaining to others how watching a video of yours saved their hide lost in the woods and they put their survival skills they learned from you to build a shelter process fire wood filter their water until they found their way out or were rescued. That is your legacy and on top of your service to our great country
Ok I saw the bacon and it got my attention....I saw the teacher ....yep gotta watch....I read the content...must have info!! Watched said content and learned.....well worth the time....laughed out loud in the truest sense of the phrase at a time really needed it......PRICELESS!!!!! Thank you Sir for your time effort and energy. The knowledge you share is spot on and for someone like me it’s a very welcome break to focus my mind on something outside of the BS in life!!!
One knot to rule them all and on the tree to bind them. I like the idea of raising up the back wall of the lean-to shelter, thus, making more room. The side walls are a great idea, too. Thanks for doing all the work.
That, “OMG Dude” was top notch wholesome😂 please don’t stop making videos Corporal. Personally inspired and helped me get knowledgeable about bushcraft skills and your tips and tricks. Helped me get through some tough times too, been watching for I believe over a year, if not 2💪🏽Love from Cali fam💯❤️keep bein you 🤞🏽
I think it’s great that you are teaching these skills. In the 60’s, all of this was basic survival in the Boy Scout handbook. A generation has lost those skills. Thank you for bringing them alive through your videos.

@@lauriewilliams8221 I think "The FONZ" got that wrapped up....ohh sorry: Henry Winkler.
Moto,moto,yut,inkstick,moonbeam, Semper fidelis!
And that is how military guys pick up the same lingo. Lol. That stuff sticks with you for life. Just like when I hear..."40 inches" I finish it with..."back to chest. Lean back and strut. Or "eyeballs"...click. lol
Dude, you went "Lorena Bobbit," "Pimppin'," and "Bear skin Rug" all in the same video..........Outstanding.
Hilarious
Self publish a cookbook of your camping recipes, and add it for sale on your Amazon page.
We’re eating bacon wrapped in bacon tonight. Outstanding. Semper Fi.
f4tweet perfect!!!
Lots of work on that outing. Lovely setup and again bacon based cooking, loved it. Maybe a couple Canadian cold beers with that meal!!!! Cheers, had a couple watching you work. Thanks.
"No bear skin rug, but we can still pull it off." 🤣🤣🤣 SO wrong on SO many levels, brother. S/F
He was still thinking about the sausages...
Hello from Poland. Nice 2 see you like Polish sosage 👍😃
around here it would be impossible to drive 8 poles into the ground with all the rocks unless you were in a river bottom, maybe you can show us another method ....
Thank you for all your videos. At first i was like this guys jokes are dry. Then I got your sense of humour and laugh at all the jokes. I’m inspired to go out this summer with some bros and build our own structures to live in for the weekend. Thank you.
From a old Green Beret you are one hell of a great Jar head... I have learned a lot from you..
James Hill he eats crayons a shts out survival!!!!!!😆jk
I’ve been following Matt for some time now - both in YT and Instagram. He’s the real deal.
Yeah cut them polish sausage down to Irish size lol
Your content always make me so calm. It's pure pleasure to watch every and each your video. Outstanding job 💪
Chef Mike
The Lorena Bobbitt joke had me rollin!! Awesome video!
Thank you Dad who was in the Coast Guard.
weatherwool.com tell them I sent you
75th Rangers same traffic as Corporal Kelly
One of the most fun videos to watch you've made, Devildog. I laughed my ass off at the bacon wrapped sausage-Lorena Bobbit reference. Outstanding work!
You owe me a beer. That “no bear skin rug” had me rolling and I spilled. Party foul, I know.
me too man.
I've lost my legs to MS it's lovely to see someone who can still practice our skills , kudos
What is MS
Lol. Keep it up
Hey, where did you get that fire from ?
🤣
WTF............
Arent you afraid the leafs you used for insulation would catch fire while you are sleeping from a rogue spark??
not if they are frozen
@@evanwindom3265 Thanks for watching
Outstanding Shelter build Shawn. Love how you raised the back to give you that extra room.
I'll give you this..you eat damn good! That chow was looking amazing!
Polska Kielbasa Squirrel wrapped with opossum bacon that you snared while setting up camp. Outstanding!!!
Did you REALLY just make a d1@k joke!?!?!? ROFLMAO! 😂😂😂
Hilarious!
I think the Corporal is still fantasizing about Dakota Johnson. :p
Thanks Corporal, another great one.
That BBQ rubb diddn't even stick to the kielbasa..... after bacon wrap you should have rolled it in...
thanks for watching
You got my thumbs up as soon as I saw bacon wrapped sausages over an open fire, yum. Keep up the great work!
I could put Sweet Babys Rays on a sneaker and eat it.
That's my favorite too. I keep a couple quarts of it around at all times.
@@Jaden48108 Vidalia Onion flavor is sweet too
@@bigdavesoutdoors9761 I've tried that. It's good.
I noticed as the years go on you seem more relaxed and laid back growing out your beard and all, the military still shows through. Thanks for the video.
🇺🇸MAGA🇺🇸
Your double entendres are without equal. The Burt Reynolds pose is classic. Great video as always.
Brother it me about 3 seconds to laugh my ass off when u said Lorena bobbit ain’t got nothing on me after slicing those meat puppies up.
Multi level of educational video. Building shelter and learning to eat like a king/queen in the woods. Another bacon extravaganza tune in next week when corporal Kelly will make a bowl of bacon bits ceareal
soon
