      After seeing this, is there a bed roll that is also hollow so you could throw things into it instead of just the head rest, making a make shift mattress to lay on instead of ontop of?
      Also, would there be a wider but just as long "tarp" if you wanted more of an " A Frame" configuration?
      It looks cool as is but, where I don't know what I don't know, I figured I'd ask an expert whose more familiar with these things.

    You've noticed that too! I see a lot of channels with outdoor folks who claim a lot of bushcraft and outdoors old school camping and all their gear is brand new and unused, especially their cooking gear, no heat or burn/smut marks etc. I hear ya. Really enjoy your channel. Thanks and Cheers!

      This is a pretty cool video. Did you fasten the snaps at the ground side? I guess here in Alberta I'd have to use pine boughs. Would I still use 4 to 6 inches? Thanks for doing these videos.

    Hello from Oklahoma! The old river rat here. Good Video! Enjoyed this camp configuration. I guess it's because I do something similar in a "C" shape with my tarp. It is important to have a good layer under your body. Also enjoyed the talk about carrying your gear to stay in shape. Being 64 it's a constant battle to stay in shape. I walk my dogs a mile or two every day wearing a pack that weighs approx. 40 lbs. Some have to make their comments but that's their problem. People are funny that way. Thanks for All You Do Young Man! God Bless!

    Another HANDS ON VIDEO, Good Job. Can you put thermometers at 1-2 ft increments from the fire to the bed roll to show he temperature?? A while back in SF my rut was 120 lbs and I was 25. Now I'm 70 and struggle to put on a 80 lbs rut, my bowflex, rower, and tread mill are covered with supplies ...... time to clear them off and get back into shape ....... thanks Shawn.

    If you peel the bark off those logs, it WILL act as a reflector. Light colors reflect heat, dark absorbs.

    • @les3449
      @les3449 3 місяці тому +1

      Have you done this? I ask because I know that is true for clothing and painted surfaces but I never heard that about logs.

    • @jordanwright6244
      @jordanwright6244 3 місяці тому +1

      It WILL not act as a reflector that will elevate the temperature that reaches you. You are literally ignoring physics. The main law of physics you're ignoring is the inverse square law. You're literally suggesting that the temperature of the reflected heat will somehow be elevated beyond that which the fire is producing. And then, as if it couldn't get any worse, this heat that is being reflected on the backside of the fire is supposed reach you in an elevated state. Sorry does not work that way

    Me, I do get to live in the woods. Currently I am regaining my musculature after battling cancer & more. Now I'm about to get back out and truly reveling in some extended dirt time. (My fiancé is just about confident that she can trust me getting back out there solo. [As I mentioned, I have had to resign myself to taking time away while I recover and get healthy again). Not getting out fully in Nature has torn holes in my soul, and the honesty of your 'doing' stuff has been a primary force in getting through. I haven't given up hope on what I will be able to do, and I have been blessed to be treated to Corporal's Corner - For me a better name might be - 'Healing The Soul with The Corporal'. So again, Thank you, thank you, thank you for being you and for carrying on!

    One thing I think most people forget or get wrong about a Cowboy bed roll and its weight is that they usually had a horse that carried their supplies and didn't have to think about total pack weight as much as a solo camper does today. To me something like this at 4 pounds is excellent and worth it with how much it can do. Thanks for another great video.

    Thank you for your comment about "well-used" equipment. I'm 70 years old and have been camping since I was 12. Believe it or not, my bedroll is the original that I started with. BTW: I work out 6 days a week and still can run 2 or more miles per day. When you stay in shape, a heavy bedroll isn't that much of a challenge. A very good video!!

    After I got out of AD I swore I'd never sleep rough on the ground. I got into trail riding, but because I can cook and had a big horse (Belgian) 😊 I became part of the chuckwagon crew, never slept on the ground. This system might change my thoughts on this.
    As a soldier I frequently carried 10 pounds times 8 so sniveling at 10 pounds make me chuckle.

    There is a reason I trust this guy more than most, every thing he does exudes I've done this more times than you've even thought about it. Granted you definitely need private land and what not to build the bigger projects you see him do but this smaller stuff frankly its evident that he just likes doing it, so hes structured a lot of his life so he has the chance to do it, a lot. And yeah I know he isn't backpacking. But boy it would be cool to see a midweek video on rucking/backpacking/having to cover ground with all this gear. Cause sometimes I think hes got to be close to his car, more than like 70 lbs or so and there is no way hes hiking 3-4 miles one way to his site then having time to build all this and film it.

To your video thoughts today: I would add that, in addition to being physically capable, it is equally if not more important to be mentally capable. Being caught up in a SHTF scenario can knock out the strongest individual if their head is not in the right place. Spiritual strength is another necessity, because when all seems lost, mind body and spirit work together, along with the almighty. to help get you through. (speaking from experience).
