Wait, I thought a rocket stove was designed to feed from the base and all of the heat and smoke be directed out of the stack. It seems you'll be sucking the air out of your hut and all the heat will be going outside. What am I missing? Did you build it differently then I'm assuming?
Went out for a overnight, hammock, thanks to you for the skills of knot and hitches. My wife was amazed. Thank you for all your tips and no none sense ways. My wife is now planning a 3 day canoe and camp alone the withlacoochee river.
@@TheTunnellTake 2 fires. one in. one out. with different intensities. also the rocket stove would be drawing the heat from the other outside fire. and even if the rocket stove were sucking heat, it would also be generating it.
Yeah it would be generating it but wouldnt it be going out of the stack? And if its designed to pull heat in from the outside fire wont it pull smoke too? I'm not understanding this.
Shawn I gotta tell you, you're the only UA-camr that I actually tune in for. I'll watch others randomly, but Sunday afternoons are for Corporals Corner. It's the only time that I log in specifically to watch a new video that has just been uploaded by any UA-camr. It's like when we were kids and anxiously awaited the next episode of our favorite TV show - "Tune in next week, same bat time, same bat channel."
I feel very confident after watching over 100 of your videos now, that if i was forced to live out in the woods, i would be just fine. I bet it's peaceful out there. All the stresses of the civilized world seem to just go away.
Really appreciate Shaun's videos. The best part is he doesn't clutter the presentation with unnecessary dialog, no running commentary. He allows the reader to visualize and mentally participate in the process without having to balance thought with sound. Good stuff.
Outstanding. You triggered a memory. At 8 I did a shelter using a wood frame of large sticks. Then found old bricks to build a stove. Found coal on the rail road tracks . Covered the shelter with an old tarp. Lite the stove. Very warm . Thank you for triggering that memory. It felt great.🙏
Outstanding instructor. I'm 62 y/o and have been an outdoorsman/woodsman most of my life. When I go out for short adventures it's to keep my skills sharp or experiment with new skills. Your channel offers simple instructions that a beginner can follow and that is why I recommend it to young campers, canoers, hunters, hikers or anyone that spends time in the backwoods. Keep up the good work, the skills you teach could be life saving.
Well....gotta say.....it's day 2 after my spinal surgery ....... misery is the brutal pain and mind numbing meds! BUT.....there is NOTHING better for healing and keeping my mood elevated than watching a brand new Corporal's Corner video! Damn near ripped my stitches when the notification pinged on my iPhone, iPad, and laptop that a new video was up and ready to be viewed!! I am hoping that come spring I will be able to attempt a shelter build near, but out of sight from my home! A place where I (and my hubby) can go if and when poop hits the fan! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for making my day way brighter! All the best!
Nice job as usual, but let me make a suggestion for your hobo lunch; Next time try Cajun style Andouille sausage, potatoes, and a few jumbo shrimp. Add some garlic, butter, and a strip of bacon. I usually make the whole packet before heading out or even the night before. I've also added corn on the cob broken in half or thirds. Enjoy!
My favorite videos are actually the ones that you build a shelter and then come back 2 or 3 times to make improvements. This is reality. Most of the time that a survival shelter is needed it's for more than 1 overnight. I keep hoping you will do a multiday build dug into an embankment for more than 1 person. That also includes an inside fire. More of a long term survival type shelter. I have a build to do with my kids this spring and keep looking for ideas from you to incorporate in our mountainside shelter! Thanks to your perfect knot lessons I put a greenhouse up yesterday that didnt fall over during the night! 😁
So glad the efforts to get you the visibility t hat you deserve are paying off, I'll keep doing my part. This video was outstanding AF and the rocket stove is awesome, thanks for doing what you do for us as viewers!

Enjoing wildlife and the beauty of the seasons. So wel wurth the labour. I've several of this type of buildings in the woods on different places. The wikiup is my favorit for wintertime. My uncle, who is retired military, loves your videos, and sent me one of you teaching how to read a compass. The rest is history. I've been hooked ever since. I taught in bush Alaska for four years. I became an avid lover of the outdoors, and I have learned so much watching you. Please keep doing what you are doing. And thank you for all your hard work, and serving our country ❤
Really enjoyed this video Shawn. Not everyone lives in a temperate climate. In our area of Canada you’d never survive one day in winter unless you built yourself a shelter like this one. It would be great to see it finished with a door etc. Thanks again for doing this.
I love what you're doing, and what you stand for. My best friend in the world was a Corporal in the Marines. Unfortunately, his life was taken on a recon mission back in 2010. It's guys like you and my departed friend who got me interested in not only bushcraft, but survival. I love every second of it, and love learning everything I can about it. Same with my family as well. I appreciate all your videos they help a lot. Thank you so much for your service, and keep doing what you're doing.
The rocket stove and windbreak are great additions to your campsite. It's great to see the incremental improvements you are making to your campsite over time. I'd like to see ways to upgrade the insulation for your wiki-up or how to upgrade it to address the rain.
Yes that stove is awesome and the shelter is coming on very well! I would suggest adding a combustion air intake which will help with drafts and prevent the chimney from pulling heat out of your shelter.
You either have a crew with you out there or the the day for you last 48 hours. It would took me a few days to make all the things you did and make them looking like crap while you made huge windshields, you covered up most of your shelter, made a fire place and still have a time to make a dinner before the sun set... I refuse to believe that you're human. Huge respect sir
One of the best shelters I've seen. Love the rocket stove. You could cook inside it! Did Native Americans or pioneers ever use rocket stoves like that?
LOL...As you started to eat I was thinking hot sauce would sure spice that baby up. I was eating home made nachos with Doritos, sliced jalapenos, cheese and I was out of Tabasco but found a bottle of Texas Pete's hot sauce that my wife prefers. Your wikiup is awesome and that rocket fire place is badass. As you stated, Rome was not built in a day. I've been working on my backyard Hobo Camp for three years, always adding or changing something. The best idea I got was from you, the idea of underlining my tarp with a frame. It cost me maybe thirty bucks or so for the frame materials from Lowes but it was well worth it. The hammock shelter has withstood heavy rains, winds and tons of leaves (when wet they get heavier). During this pandemic it has been my mental health shelter. I can sleep, cook meals or just kick back and relax. I test all of my under quilts, new hammocks, top quilts, sleeping bags out there. Right now I can only stealth camp in a local state park as there are no dispersed camping areas within a hundred miles or so. I noticed that some of my neighbors have hung hammocks in their backyards...kinda cool.
I’m glad you brought up the daily improvement of the shelter. I was Army and when I did these things in the field I’d spend time every day working on it to make things more comfortable. Good work, Marine
A over night shelter is a tarp or tent as temporary in nature. That shelter is more like a bushcraft hunting shelter or trapper shelter something you can go back to and upgrade or repair if necessary. Please keep it going on the skills video.

Nice to see the Corporal is playing in the mud again. LOL Cheers from Winnipeg.
Nice use of mud......why didn't you work in hay or straw, to strengthen it? Also, when it rains, will it soften the mud back to "mud: again?
Keep up the good work I have been taking 2 of my sons friends out to show them some bush craft, when all of a sudden they seen this video. Now they can’t get enough of your videos. We live in Northern Alberta so sometimes we go for over night trips in the winter, now they see what you are doing and now they want to take in some over night trips. Thanks for the help in turning these boys into bush crafters.
Question; what happens to all these outstanding shelters you build?! Are they taken down or do you leave them standing for another trip?
