17:06 I thought that "3.9x faster" number sounded familiar... that's EXACTLY what Apple claimed in their keynote! Turns out they were 100% correct and not inflating a single thing. This is a HUGE development in consumer computing. As a pro audio workflow user, I hope it becomes better supported over the coming years. I just bought my 16" MBP with an i9 because I needed the compatibility, but if everything is good to go in a few years on Apple Silicon, I'll switch in a heartbeat. The only issue this presents is that we're approaching "walled garden"/proprietary standards at the processor level... that could be bad. It's like Tesla using their own proprietary charging connector while everyone else uses a standardized plug.
I ran the XcodeBenchmark via the command line on the M1 Macbook Air (16GB/512GB), and it ran fine. It beat my 2019 16" MacBook Pro with i9/64GB of RAM. The Air completed the test in 128 seconds. The Pro took 223 seconds. Just amazing.

Your Intel MPB 2020 is way better because you can run Windows x86 with bootcamp and no ‘virtualization’ required. M1 is an upgraded mobile iPad chip which cannot run Win x86 apps, thus turning your mac into an upgraded iPad-like device. I appreciate you guys decided to do a music production benchmark! Almost no one does those :(. Something you need to take into account to do this test though is the audio buffer size and sample rate. They will greatly affect how many tracks can be run at the same time. The higher the sample rate, the more CPU needed. BUT the higher the audio buffer size, the lower the CPU bottleneck becomes. So while I appreciate the test, you didn't tell us what sample rate or buffer size was used. My bet is that intel one had such low track playback because the audio buffer size was too low and/or the sample rate was too high. In the future, I would use these settings as a standard, 48khz Sample Rate, and test at 3 different audio buffer sizes, 64, 256, and 1024. I'm interested in maybe getting the M1 MBP for music but unfortunately, this doesn't give me enough information to make that decision. Love both of your guy's videos! I bought the mbp 16 base model too. I knew Apple would use the apple silicon, but I didn't know that it would take Apple only two months to deliver the product with this amazing performance. I thought it would be a little bit faster than the iPad pro. If I had known it before I would have waited for it.
What does “running on Rosetta” mean? Is this something else you have to get with the M1? Sorry; I’m not well versed on tech stuff! I just know that my old MacBook Pro conked out a week and a half ago and I’ve been waiting for the M1 to come out to figure out which one to buy. Thank you for making this video and including Logic Pro in your testing.
Basically, previous Intel Mac apps ran using the traditional x86 architecture. The new M1 chip uses an ARM-based architecture which doesn't support x86. Rosetta 2 is able to translate the x86 app software into code that the ARM-based chip can recognize and process which impressive performance. It's also able to translate plugins and other things on the fly.
@@MaxTechOfficial thanks for the reply! You lost me at "x86." LOL... so is Rosetta something that is built in to the new M1 Macs or is it something you would have to purchase and install? Thank you! Apologies for my ignorance.

Is the M1 Pro version thermal throttling? In the previous video the M1 MacBook Air wattage drops while repeating the cinabench r23 test , so is it the same or the fan in the pro version makes a difference??
The air throttles only in extended workloads of more than half of an hour completely maxing it out, then its exterior temp at the hottest spot goes to 35-38C and performance drops by 15% The pro doesnt throttle at all, as it has a fan

Hey Guys I really need to see a review for the MacBook Pro M1 vs MacBook Air M1 . So I can finally decide which one I want :) . Thank you Guys you are the best !!
Only difference would be the fan. If you require heavy usage for longer periods of time, the fan will help keep your machine running smoothly without throttling down. If you’re just doing basic stuff: surfing web, checking emails, watching videos, etc, then the Air M1 is completely fine.

There is already a M1 Macbook Pro vs. Air Video in the channel. To make things short: The performance is almost the same but on a long run (e.g. gaming) there is some thermal throtteling due to the passive cooling solution. Absolutely nailed it, bruh. The best comparison video.
This is the best development for mobile computing in a decade
I currently own a Surface Laptop 3 and a iPad pro 2020 in the 11 inch. I am a graduate student who starts my new job in the fall, and I am transitioning to all Apple products to manage my work flow. Which laptop model should I buy?
I wouldn't mind seeing the 16GB M1 vs the $1799 10th gen Intel 13inch pro. Great great comparisons as always
Can you please compare the 8th gen macbook pro with the new M1 macbook air
I have a 2020 Intel MBP I bought 2 months ago. Why am I doing this to myself
Ha ha, who would buy an intel Mac after apple announced new chips were coming.
Sad
@@Jasondenningphoto If I kept waiting for new technology to release, I'd wait the rest of my life 🤷🏻♀️
@@Jasondenningphoto who would buy a M1 mac when Apple will release M5 in the next couple years?and at that time who will buy M5 when Apple will release M10 in another couple of years?
Hi I have a question!
If I have a choice between these 2 options:
1. Macbook 2020 (without m1) - 16GB RAM
2. Macbook 2020 (m1) - 8GB RAM
Which will be a better option?

i have this question also
Another great review guys. You’re really providing awesome comps that show real world differences in the new M1 Macs. Keep up the good work.
How’s the M1 MacBook Pro speaker sound vs the MacBook Pro I5 2020?? Which one has the best sound quality ?
I feel completely outplayed here. I purchased the 1700$ intel MBP 3 months ago.
3 months ago, we all knew Apple Silicon was coming.
@@eddxw and so did apple, apple should have discounted the intel macs by like $300 3months ago
Noob
Well they do announce it early so kinda your fault for not waiting
I bought the mbp 16 base model too. I knew Apple would use the apple silicon, but I didn't know that it would take Apple only two months to deliver the product with this amazing performance. I thought it would be a little bit faster than the iPad pro. If I had known it before I would have waited for it.
So, does the M1 have a backdoor like Intel's Management Enginer or AMD's Platform Security Processor?
5:02 “the intel Mac is finished” indeed 😂😂😂
I feel sorry for the people who bought a the non M1 MacBook that came out this year 😭😭
Seriously, I don't feel bad at all. I am very happy with my Intel Macbook Pro. I am a student and I needed a laptop asap in order to get my work done. I couldn't wait until mid-November to get a new computer lol
Amadou Sy yeah same with me. Moreover, I dont think spend lots of money for the first generation is a good idea.
They would be regretting their life right now hahaha
me :(
nhphuong_117 I’m on the edge right now. I need virtualization. Should i get intel or wait for m1 virtualization?
I have the intel 2020 version macbook . Should i trade in my laptop for this one or just wait for the next upgrade? i already paid 1800$ .
Great content as always! I would really like to see an M1 MacBook Air vs M1 MacBook Pro video. With the same chip inside, it's really the first time a lot of pros might be considering the Air as a serious product. As a developer, I don't work on sustained all the time and it would be great to get your take on it.
Why didn't they release 15" M1 Macbook pro with this level of performance? I would definitely have bought it.
Does Apple have any plans?
Would be interesting to see what would be the best deal out of the iPad with magic keyboard compared to the M1 MacBook Air and M1 Pro
Is the M1 Pro version thermal throttling? In the previous video the M1 MacBook Air wattage drops while repeating the cinabench r23 test , so is it the same or the fan in the pro version makes a difference??
The air throttles only in extended workloads of more than half of an hour completely maxing it out, then its exterior temp at the hottest spot goes to 35-38C and performance drops by 15%
The pro doesnt throttle at all, as it has a fan
There is a definite improvement in the camera and audio quality! Great review!! 👍😁
What do you mean by Rosetta? I’m a graphics designer and work with Adobe CC. Do I need a third party app, to run them in the M1?
Yes please do a 8gb vs 16gb! Great work, love your channel.
This is all I wanted, a simple practical tutorial that goes straight to the point. Thank you kind sir.
I wonder how much of these results were because of the 2x faster SSDs instead of the processor. 🤔
2x faster SSD because of processor because the SSD is the same on both devices
Question: was the old 2019 Intel MacBook Pro (low end) able to have two external displays?
Intel MBP 13 vs M1 Air, that could be interesting
I bought the 13” MacBook Pro - 10th Gen Intel Core i5, 512GB SSD, & 32GB memory in June. I use it for school, Photoshop, Lightroom, & Premiere Pro. Would really like to see a comparison with that model if possible, and some recommendations because I still hope this will last me for years to come.
Also: I want to see the insides of the MacBook Air!!! How the dissipation works and if there’s room for improvement like in the previous Intel MacBook Air
Are the m1 macbook pro speakers still crappy compared to the 1799 model like last year?
Love apple for more concerned about performance by switching to in-house SOC m1 chip. M1 blows my mind. Thanks for the best comparison video.
Hi Max, thanks for nice review. I am thinking to buy a mac pro 13 m1 for my girlfriend that would use the device for simple photo and video editing and of course internet browsing. Do you think is 8GB RAM enough for it?
"APPLE UNDERSTATED IT"
really man?apple always overstate but this time .......
Hi! would you recommend macbook pro 15inches intel core i7 2018, or macbook pro 13inches M1 2021? both with 16gb and 500ssd
Will the 2021 macbook pro come out mid year or end of the year??
Awesome video Guys
I have a request if possible
Also super interesting
M1 MacBook Pro VS M1 MacBook Air
And M1 MacMini vs M1 MacBook Pro VS M1 MacBook Air
That would be awesome if you could do it
Thanks a lot for all the horse work on this comparisons as I know from self experience how long and fatigue this type of videos bring
There is already a M1 Macbook Pro vs. Air Video in the channel. To make things short: The performance is almost the same but on a long run (e.g. gaming) there is some thermal throtteling due to the passive cooling solution. But in most ways they have the same performance. If you don't game get a air, if you do a pro maybe is better. There is also a thermals video for the macbook air on this channel. Check it out.
Max and Vadim, you guys are absolutely amazing. It’s insane what level of content you’re able to put out.
When you just bought the intel MacBook Pro earlier this year 😩
you might want to read the forbes review
these garbage comparisons are irrelevant, no one is brushing paints in this era
i bought my pro2020 i5 month a go ,
i dont its huge diffrence
The Intel Mac is plugged in to charger? Won’t that add more heat?
Waiting for a fixed XCode benchmark!
He already emailed us. downloading it now. Gonna test in the 8GB vs 16GB RAM video
