I just couldn’t justify paying more foe the pro since the M1 processor first gen. Plus apple intentionally lower the fan speed that’s why these UA-camrs are not seeing a big difference in performance.
I went with the M1 MBP with 16Gb & 1TB SSD and bought on the day of release. There are a few minor issues, but overall very happy. In hindsight, had I waited for a few weeks until all the tests and comparisons come out, I would have chosen a MBA instead given there in not that much of a significant difference in performance.

The 2022 M2 turned out to be inferior to the M1 with thermal and ssd issues. Lol you would have been better off getting the M1 instead of wasting a year of your life waiting. Lol
I intentionally bought the Air because I can’t stand that Touch Bar. When the specs are this close and one is that much less expensive. I have it connected to a 32” 4K so the nits mean nothing, the mics are noticeably better on the pro - but that is literally the only caveat. I can buy an external mic if that becomes important... And I really only use it for Zoom and basic computing needs. UA-cam, Apple Music, reading the news, emails. I have finally found a snappy computer that will last me for many many years to come. (I got the 16GB 1TB MBA - i bought for future proofing) Anyway, I’ve been so happy with it. Never loved a computer more.
@Frank Stein Fluid. I have full 4K with no performance issues. I had the 2019 MBA with the butterfly keyboard and that poor thing barely reached across the aisle to the monitor. Dropped performance by almost 50%.
@@imrickjames7012 yeah all laptops are clamshell but the air just looks fucking strange. It goes from thin to thick. If Apple can’t make the whole computer the thickness of the front portion, they shouldn’t make it at all.
Fabulous comparison and really helped my choice. I've had Macbook pro for work with touchbar and don't recall ever using the touchbar. With that in mind the differences were negligible and it was a no brainer, so I chose the Air.

Nicely done! I've had the MBAir M1 for a couple of weeks. Battery life and speed improvements are huge. No fan is also a big deal. My previous early 2020 MBAir fan ran at high rpm's at least 30 to 40 percent of the time - very noisy and annoying. The M1 MBAir is the best Mac for most people.
@@BreakingJohn I use Safari. Most of my use has been plugged in - I use an external 27" monitor. I used for video playback unplugged for over an hour. Afterwards it had 97%. My Intel MBAir would be at about 80%. The youtubers that have evaluated battery life say the apple hype about battery life is true.
What are your specs? I'm thinking of going 16GB RAM and 512 SSD to future-proof since I keep these things for a long time. I'm a teacher who does not do any high-powered stuff, although I do make little videos with WeVideo or Loom for my students.
@@laurieforsman7820 My specs are the base low end MBAir, 8 Gig Memory and 256 Gig SSD. If you're likely to keep it for 3 or more years, the upgrades are a good idea. I don't think you'll have any issues with the base model for a long time but if future proofing is a concern, do it.

So happy I found this video! Most reviews look at the basic MacBook Air. I have the 16gb 1TB version on order (3-4 week lead-time) and this is the first video that actually benchmarks the Air with 16GB memory and 1TB storage. It appears the storage is faster with 1TB than when it is only 256GB.
Additionally if someone is unsure i recommend to go and check the difference between the two panels. 500 nits of the MacBook pro makes a difference. I felt like the MacBook air was lacking of screen power. You'll get it when you go and try by yourselves
I’m considering the pro because it has higher screen brightness and won’t throttle like the air when I run some programs. Having said that, I would honestly prefer the pro to have the Air design.

Well this is perhaps the wrong video. What display size does that 2015 have? I had 15" but it broke down after 3 years. Wasn't really happy with the build quality. I did use 7 days a week plus 10 hours a day. But multiple keys came off plus battery swoll and logo board got fried
This is my first MacBook and I went with the silver M1 Air , the no fan option was the winner to me .. and I already have the 12.9 iPad Pro 2020 so I'm extremely happy

this video really helped with my internal debate on what to upgrade my current MBP 2019 too. I was stuck on price differences as well as what the differences really were but I think I will stick to my choice of MBP M1 as I prefer the design over the MBA M1 and it seems to be slightly better and I think spending that extra $200-$300 is fine since I plan to use it for a long time. I would wait for the newer versions to come out but my current MBP is very damaged from liquid my brother spilled while he was borrowing it. It really is the most helpful video out here in the whole comparison and I enjoyed it a lot! Off to go and order my new MBP M1 :)

I have fully charged my Macbook Pro at 02.04.2021 Friday and did not use it on weekend. Then I use it whole week on working times, today is 08.04.2021 and I still have 11% of Battery. Just amazing

The Pro doesnt make a noticable differrence, the fan doesnt help make it much cooler than the Air. The touchbar is not favorable by majority of users. A tiny bit differrence in the speakers and a bit bigger trackpad is all you get with the Pro.

I have a 2017 Macbook Pro, i7 2.8 GHZ 16 GB RAM, and I have hardly touched it for a month, when I bought a new M-1 Air. The Air is the best computer I've ever owned. I'm more excited for the next machines with M-1x or whatever they call it, than anything Apple has done in a long time.

TBH, the fan is quite important, Macbooks have a history of battery swollen problems, which means by having a fan, you will less likely to see a swollen battery.
abut thermals: why is only because of the fan? the Pro has also a BIGGER radiating surface. and is thicker. Thus also its passive cooling might lead to a better heat dissipation.

I have a 2017 Macbook Pro, i7 2.8 GHZ 16 GB RAM, and I have hardly touched it for a month, when I bought a new M-1 Air. The Air is the best computer I've ever owned. I'm more excited for the next machines with M-1x or whatever they call it, than anything Apple has done in a long time.
I'm getting a base level Air now - because I can't wait, and then I'm upgrading/investing more in a redesigned MBP 14 or 16 next year.

Thanks a lot for this. I’ve been trying to determine if I would lose a lot by choosing the Air instead if the Pro so this was really helpful. I don’t think I’ve seen another video this comprehensive on their differences.
Not enough difference for the average user to justify the Pro..already ordered 2 MB Airs and after watching this video you helped me confirm I did the right thing. Since the Pro will be updated later this year...makes since as well. Thank you for the excellent comparison review

TBH, the fan is quite important, Macbooks have a history of battery swollen problems, which means by having a fan, you will less likely to see a swollen battery.
you would think "air" would have the fan and not the pro
@@wolverineiscool7161 the “air” was designed to be light. The Pro has a fan because its used for more “intense” work.
abut thermals: why is only because of the fan? the Pro has also a BIGGER radiating surface. and is thicker. Thus also its passive cooling might lead to a better heat dissipation.

MacBook Pro 8gb ram or Air 16gb ram? I using zoom, Spotify, Netflix, 15-20 tabs on safari/chrome, Microsoft office, e-mail, sometimes Lightroom. Macbook will be for next 4-5 years.
I think the MacBook Air would be fine, but take my words with a grain of salt. Both are great from what I’ve seen. Good luck!
i was rocking an actually higher workload on a 2017 macbook air with dual core an 8gb ram, so yeah mac os has a really good ram management
8 GB will be perfectly fine. 16 GB is really only necessary for creative professionals, who export high volumes using programs like FinalCut.

You have mistaken. MBP is on the left and MBA is on the right, but you said it the other way.
