There is more of a difference with the RP 4 vs the 4pro than just one has more ram. The more expensive 4pro has a way better chip in it and can play just about every ps2 game just fine. The 4 has a dimensity 900 chip and the 4pro has the 1200. Also the 4pro can do 1080 video on your tv though the usb-c port on the bottom, the regular 4 can’t. It only does 720p through hdmi.
The 4 pro is way more powerful, but let's not pretend it can play just about any ps2 game just fine. It has the same issues as the original odin. You will have to tinker and experience issues in probably 40% of the games you play. It is by no means an odin 2 that actually will play ps2 without any tinkering as long as the emulator allows it.
@@creaturecore13 I’ve got one and I have not had any problems with any PS2 games I’ve thrown at it besides the ones that don’t run well because of the emulator itself, not the hardware. If you’re playing games at 720P or even native if you have to and not 1080P like the Odin 2 I would argue that this thing could play 90% of PS2 games.
@@turnbasedtoddy7664 cap
@@cine-ish how is this cap 😂😂
@@turnbasedtoddy7664 this thing doesn't run 90% of Ps2 games, you're better off saying it runs 60% playable if that
The RP4 Pro is awesome. As someone else said the pro has a more powerful SOC in addition to more RAM. You also stated it uses the anbernic front end. It uses retroid’s front end, but it really starts to shine with ES-DE. The pro runs a huge amount of the PS2 library. I’ve been killing my backlog of PS2 games that have been haunting me since childhood.
I love my Odin 2. Its been great the past 2 months of owning it!
Odin 2 max here. Amazing!!
Is the Odin 2 base model enough?
@@davidbarragan5265 honestly the pro is enough.
@@davidbarragan5265should be unless you care about top of line android games and switch games
@David
If you are happy with emulation up to GC and PS2 - yes, absolutely.
If you want to do Switch and Windows emulation you can't have enough ram. 🤷
Also, if new emulators appear - xbox (360), WiiU and PS3 - I would find it unbearable to have a nice cpu that could do the job, but there's just not enough memory.
So I went for the Max and did not regret it one second.
One of the very best Android hand held reviews I've ever seen, thank you! A couple months ago I started looking for an upgrade to my beloved but dated GPD XD+. Nerding out to reviews before deciding was half the fun. And I found my retro hand held soul mate with the black Anbernic RG556. I curl up with this thing the way people curl up with a good book. I absolutely love it. It's so ultra comfortable to hold and play, build quality is solid, great battery life, the control layout is perfect, the sound is remarkable, it's just the right size, the stunning 1080p AMOLED screen makes every retro game you play on it look completely remastered, the PS2 emulation is waaay better than I was expecting, and the price is unbeatable. I'm not fluid at all in customizing, so I picked up the variant pre loaded with over 4400 games. The factory front end is perfectly fine, and the game library is very deep. Then I picked up a 480 game PS2 library SD card that never leaves the slot. I can't even begin to tell you how amazing it is to play my all time favorite PS2 games like MOH; Frontline, RAC and Contra; Shattered Soldier again on a hand held like this. Plus all the GooglePlay stuff too. As someone who was in my early 20's when the original Game Boy dropped, it just completely blows my mind how far hand helds have come, and how many great choices at every price point are out there right now.
where did you purchased preloaded ps2 sdcard ?
I bought and love my Steam Deck OLED, but really wanted a pocketable companion to it. I tried out the RP2S and loved everything about it except for the screen size. It was slightly too small for my eyes to enjoy, ultimately giving me headaches with longer play sessions. So, with that I decided to sell it and upgrade to the RP4P (because to me it's a better value than the base 4 being double the power, and I didn't mind dropping the extra cash) and I love it on a very similar level to the Steam Deck. It's the perfect budget friendly powerhouse companion for my use case.
Great video man!
Thanks and the Retroid Pocket 4 with the new sticks 👌
The Retroid 4 and the 4 Pro also have different SOCs as well as different memory config.
I have to disagree on the rp4 pro, I've left it on for days in sleep mode and while the battery does drain I'd say it holds up, and you can get native controller support just switch the control style from retro to Xbox and apps will recognize them.
Also the difference between the base and pro is more than just 4gb of ram, the processor is substantially more powerful and you can get 1080p video out.
The pocket Air is discontinued so you can't buy it from Aya any more and I think you really undersold the emulation capabilities of the 720g in the G cloud.
Other than that I'd say this is a solid list.
I think the air may be removed for the RG Cube or Ayn Odin mini. I'll have to make a new list at the end of the year
I thought when you said emulators in the title as in software like Yuzu or NetherSX2...
I usually call or known these devices as retro handheld or dedicated gaming device. 🤔
Still a very great list here my friend! 👌
You are right, even more as these could be used for regular android gaming or game streamimg only, so what would be the point calling them emulators.
you missed the part about the rp4 using a different chipset which is a huge difference not just the ram difference
Nice video!!!
Odin 2 is the android daddy... but its cost almost the same as a steamdeck, before, with yuzu on the market, it would have been interesting to get one (and also to play warzone mobile), but now, android limitations are real, steamdeck is getting cheaper.. and switch 2 will come next year. So it's a little harder to fork that kind of money. I would love for retroid to pull something from the anbenic catalogue and do a RP2s with square screen or a 4 inch, and a RP4pro with a 5 or 5.5 screen ... that would do a lot for the PS2 games that we can play. (I had rp2, Rp3 and 3+ and got rid of all.. staying with linux devices for the time being).
I'm loving the Odin 2 and RGCube
Everyone thinks the Logitech G Cloud is a joke till you get it going moonlight/sunshine and tailscale. Then all a sudden you have your whole pc with you running smooth at 60fps. Doesnt matter that it might not have a super poweful chip when the back end is your gaming PC.
I've been saying this forever I got a used g cloud from a buddy for 100 bucks nothing wrong with it. I don't have a pc so I just stream my console on it and it runs flawless and I haven't come across a game up to ps2 and gamecube that it hasn't been able to play

its crazy how the anbernic 556 is way ahead of the top 5 pics cause although its not the best at 150 $ with coupons u can buy 2 of them vs any other of these hand helds and it being compaired in the same video is a testamint how good the 556 is
The 556 rocks, the best intro level handheld!
Coupons how?
I was so close to buying it for its ergonomics button, layout OLED screen speakers etc over the Rp4 pro but i went with the RP5 instead for an extra $50 (I know it’s not out yet) I pre-ordered my first handheld device 😂
Good review dude. I like how you get to important facts quickly like the battery performance.
How did you know I needed this video!
First of all thank you for the review.
But if we get 5€ everytime the word "fantastic" has been used in this video, probably we could buy all of the handhelds.
😂
Greetings from Portugal.
To me, it seems odd the desire for a pocketable device that still ends up not really being that pocketable with the sticks and triggers sticking out. At that point, improve the ergonomics to make it enjoyable for its actual intended purpose which is playing the games.
It’s kind of ironic to me that the RP4Pro has the smaller and lower res screen but stronger chip than the 556, which has the way better screen and ergo, but lacks the power to fully run the GC and PS2 library upscaled making use of that screen. Seems that it would better off switching chips, and so I think the next improvement of the 556 will be a fantastic bridge between the $200 RP4Pro, and the $300 Odin 2. Maybe Anbernic can get a better bulk price for the SD 8 Gen 2 now that it’s a couple years old, and reap the benefits of emulation and graphics drivers improvements that have come out in recent times.
Daaaaaaaamn, the RP4P got done dirty in this review.
What are you talking about the difference is 4GB of memory? That's *a* difference. It also has a way more powerful processor that has almost twice the throughput in benchmarks along with HDMI out on the USB-C which the base doesn't have, all for $50 more than the base. You relegated it to what's basically the most pocketable "streaming device" because of this but the extra money changes the dynamics entirely, as you can play the majority of the PS2 library as I understand it, yet you wrote off the bulk of the PS2 library.
And I'm surprised the Odin 2 mini didn't get brought up.
You quote the specs on the battery, screen, ram, and storage for each device but completely ignore one of the most important components; processor. Significantly reduces the usefulness of the video if we have to go behind it and look up every handheld to see what SoC they use.
Subscribed because you answered the question I been dying to find out, how does it feel in your hand the Odin 2 - finally someone answered it.
Retroid pocket 2S! Plus a ROG Ally X and youre set for everything in the gaming world libraries. Wish i could hold a RP 4 pro before buying but its shipping is the problem. Id like to test the pocketability.
The expensive big android handhelds that can't fit in a pocket easily don't make sense to me vs a steam deck, Ally X, Ally, and the other very powerful PC handhelds which overlap in price range
Do any of these are able to play past the PS2 such as 3DS and some Switch games?
I have seen a retroid pocket 4 pro doing both, so I can vouch for that one -- and the Odin 2 is more powerful so you'd get even better compatibility and performance. Plenty of videos demoing each system, search for "(console) 3DS" etc to see demos and figure out if the performance is what you'd want for your own needs
Yeah Odin 2, 99% 3ds and ps2 work. And Some switch game
Retroid pocket 4 pro also plays some switch. Prince of Persia, Metroid dread. Between .5 and .75 downscaled but it plays
Gonna be honest i thought the G Cloud in the thumbnail was a joke😭
Thanks, very good review and recommendations, good work.
odin handheld is kind of expensive base is 300. So my budget is 200 max i think the rg556 is the best option?what you guys think? I manly like psp.
i have it, its very comfortable and good but for ps2 emulation, its kind of OKish
Bros hellbent on being able to play Genshin Impact 💀
Good review, thanks. I only wish you mentioned how well they Odin and Air run windows games through Winlator or Mobox. Most of my old favorites are PC games because that's all I had growing up, and that's how I learnt to emulate through no$, desmume, visual boy etc etc etc. Now it's the reverse, I'd like to emulate up to Mafia 2 or Don Bradman Cricket 2014 for PC on a budget handheld; my phone can run the latter, so I figure the Odin should also. I want something optimised for gaming. I may get the Odin 1 pro, or 2 base, but it's a $100 price difference so I'm gonna think hard.
If you have a PC you can stream most anything to the handheld. But any low end game from 2015 and back should be fine on the Odin. It's really if the software ports are there or not.
As a RP4P owner I haven't found any issues with any ps2 games, and that's most of what I play. Nor issues with sleep mode, I never turn mine off and keeps battery very well.
Also TLDW for the video: Get the RG556 if you want the cheapest, get the RP4P if you want the most portable, get the Odin2 if you want the best as long as you can afford it. The other 2 are irrelevant and don't have anything particularly good about them.
I do have to say buy the grip for the rp4 pro because it killed my hands lol
I am in 2 minds regarding the console options...thinking about Odin 2 or RG556...which one would you prefer? 😊
If you can get the Odin 2 for a price close to the 556 it’s a way more beefy console. I’d go with that one.
Thank you...🎉
Its $400 with shipping plus I am a bit worried of import tax on top...any other device that you would recommend? I have Steam deck but when I travel sometimesnits too big to carry

I think you shouldn't have added the emulator on the title. I thought you are talking about the emulator apps. It should have been android handhelds.
Its a good video though. Kudos to you.
I wish they would do an revision of the GCloud with the Gen2 chip hell I’d take a SD888 I would pay $400usd easy it’s just that good

Are android base handhelds better or linux ?
Android will give you more software. With the Linux distro you basically get what's on there unless you know how to code and update it yourself. I prefer android for larger more powerful devices and Linux for smaller ones like the Miyoo Mini.
Please can you tell me a list of handheld game consoles that will run PS3 Games?
Those will be handheld pc’s with variable success
@DaveyG OK is there not a game Android console that will run PS3 games?

That Logitech cloud is overpriced! You can get an Ayaneo Next Lite that would run circles around that thing at the same exact price.
what the screen on the lite?
I picked up a Logitech on Amazon for $200.00 and dont really agree with the "up to PSP" emulation I have PSvita (Boarderlands 2 and Person 4 Golden run near perfect), and a ton of Gamecube and 3DS running well on this device have not yet tried PS2 but its next on my list
@@jcjarrett0364Similar here. I got 3 G Clouds from eBay. They were New Open Box for $200 each. Play everything up to PS1 great. Play Dreamcast near perfect with a few hiccups. It does PSP well in natibe but not in higher resolutions. Also, does the Xbox Game Pass real well.
@jcjarrett0364 it plays most games on ps2 well with some slow downs, but nothing that's crazy. I would say I averaged between 45-55 fps on all the sly Cooper games. Gamecube plays great on it, and it streams my xbox and Playstation flawlessly

What is the best one for 3ds?
I want to buy a handheld emulator with a big screen and good quality that can play all the pokemon games, which one should I go for?
The AYN Odin Lite is more than enough for that, and it's good a great build quality.
Is there any emulator portable I don't need to set up and run ps3/ps2 with?
PS3 and 2 no. Your looking for a steam deck or Odin 2 and you'll need to set them up.
if i ever get a chance to get RP4 or RP5 i will get it. I swear, its so much better with physic buttons
I like the Logitech G Cloud and I like it's rationale for existing. I went with the ABXYLUTE One instead though. MUCH better price with the same design language but it's no where near as good at emulation as the Cloud though.
Yeah honestly my g cloud emulates very well but agree that it's price point is still high for what you get, if you can get a used one do it I got mine for 100 bucks
Rp4 pro doesn't get enough love. I'm able to run pokemon shining pearl (nintendo switch) on it with yuzu pretty smoothly. Granted, I do have to downscale a bit and settle for a less crispy image, but it runs at a nice 50-60fps, so no complaints here!
I just want something cheap, Android, that i can install the PS remote play app.. what's the best?
Honestly Logitech Cloud is my pick for streaming

where do u get roms & emulators & how did u put into the sd card?
Just look up roms on Google and how to put them on you'll have to figure it out yourself
You arnt going to find anyone posting links because at roms are a Grey area, if you search on Google you will find legitimate sites that sill host roms, 16bit and 8bit era are very easy to find online, ps1, n64 and psp aren't difficult either, anything newer it becomes much more difficult to find sites willing to host those games as they take up way more space and are much more likely to attract the attention of the companies that own the rights to those games, if you buy an anbernic device most of them come with micro SD cards that are loaded with roms from a number of systems
Google the name of game and rom. For example "Breath of Fire GBA rom" and why would you ask? Use your head 🙄🙄
Razer edge is better than some of these devices. No compatibility issues, OLED display, 144hz, and good ergonomics. Also, great for media consumption and you can get it with a sim card
Ok the first thing you should mention is storage capacity and battery life.
I like the ayin colors but could be more pink yellow light turquoise and white for the buttons or something
I've had my eye on both the RP4 and 4Pro since their announcements respectively. Air looks really attractive to play Hoyo & Android games but the price point is holding me back. Unless there's a crazy sale on them.
Your phone can handle all that and more. Save some money and just buy a controller instead. It’s better to save up for a handheld that can play PC games and handle emulation more effectively, like the Ally X or Steam Deck.
Fantastic.

Honestly logitech nailed it with the g cloud. If they really wanted to take over the android handheld gaming just put the snapdragon that's in the odin 2 inside the g cloud sell it for 400 and there's no competition
If you are going to spend 300 dollerz or more you may as well buy a second hand handheld PC such as Rog Ally. For the same money you will get orders of magnitude more performance and the ability to play Steam games and the ability to use it as a PC
