If windows wasn't so awful for handhelds I would choose... Something... But, Steam doesn't directly interfere with your gaming experience.. It doesn't randomly decide to replace your drivers with generic ones that don't work.. It doesn't randomly shut down your Deck for a 'critical update'.. It doesn't magically decide to run a bunch of random junk in the background even though you've shut everything else down.. And it doesn't shove ADs in your face when you open the home menu or file explorer... Windows does all of that... SteamOS doesn't
@@Postcoital_Clarity The gen 2 handhelds will be strix point. Supposed to be roughly as good as a mobile rtx 2050. But it won't be within 6 months. It's supposed to come out 2025 in mobile form and then even later in handhelds.
I finally got the Steam Deck LCD….one month before the OLED was announced. Hopefully they announce a Steam Deck 2 soon because I can’t drop another $600 for the OLED.
I got my oled used 3 weeks ago local for $450. Seller had even upgraded the SSD to 1Tb he hot a legion Go and he said he liked it more due to the games he plays that require windows. For what I play the deck is perfect! Indies, RPGs, and some shooters. I don’t need more. I haven’t turned on my pc in the 3 weeks I’ve had it. I love it. I haven’t had a console that makes me feel like a kid opening up my PS3 on Christmas Day again lol. The steam deck has brought my love back for gaming. I’m 21 now so I guess im at that age where life starts to ramp up and little time for games between work, My girlfriend, and family.
@@Mrmcmilk cool, I'm really not into the technical side of things so I bought a steam deck as it's easy to use. I know I don't regret it for a second, I get 20min of gaming in a few times a day so I'm really happy. I can sit with my kids while they watch Danny go and play some games.

Earlier this year, I bought a Steam Deck OLED 1TB for my birthday and I have to say, I’m absolutely in LOVE with it. So much so, that I find myself not playing my gaming PC as much. The Steam Deck is just more fun to use.
i sold my gaming pc to buy both steamdeck and switch, best investment, playing steam games on low settings at 30FPS 720p while lying down and playing switch games while lying its just so comfortable.
It's without a doubt the best handheld. The battery life and screen on the OLED are second to none. The ergonomics are almost perfect, finally, symmetrical joysticks I ❤❤❤
The biggest benefit you get with the Deck is all the deeply integrated software support from it being manufactured by Valve (the biggest distributor of PC games) and because of that having a huge push to make games distributed on their plaform work on it out of the box whenever possible The portable version of SteamOS it uses even has a dedicated tab for games fully Steam Deck certified in your library page so you can quickly get to a list of games guaranteed to work great on it

You picked the best option possible. Sure the others have amazing performance, but a lot of them require tinkering. The Steam Deck is usually just install and hit the play button. It's outselling the Rog and Legion Go 3 to 1, probably more.
I got into handheld PCs several years ago with the Win 2 and have gotten EVERY handheld since. This includes the original Deck as well as the OLED deck. The most recent devices I've had is Ally z1 extreme, legion Go, Win 4, Win Mini, as well as various Aya and onexplayer devices and out of all of them, the OLED deck is the one device I keep going back to. It might not be the most powerful, but it gets the job done with the best display and the least amount of jank.
I love my Deck too. Like you said, I love the ease of use the Deck offers, I love using SteamLink to stream on my laptop without the need to have a monitor , mouse and keyboard plugged on the Deck. I hope when Valve makes the Deck 2 the batter life could last minimum 5 hours without tinkering any of the performance settings. (i hope battery technology has improved in the future too)
The real solution for this is for developers to actually develop their games with battery optimization in mind. The Steam Deck offers 3-15W. But handheld devices shouldn't run above 10W. The last 5W is really reserved for "docked play" and you get very little performance/watt in that last stretch on the Steam Deck APU. So just limit it your device to 10W and adjust your in-game settings accordingly. I have set Cyberpunk to 9W, locked to 30fps on the LCD model... I use "Low Preset" but with "High Textures", Medium Shadows-, Ambient Occlussion- and Volumetric Fog. and then I have set the game to 1440x900 (super sampled) with FSR Performance. It looks great this way. plays great and gives me 2.5-3h even on the LCD model. If you don't want to mess around, having a hard cap at 10W makes sense if you want battery life. Some games will just use up all the power they can get because they were never optimized for "battery life" in the first place (but rather optimized for max performance on desktop computers). Cyberpunk is one such game, it will just activate and fill up all the CPU threads "just in case", so limiting TDP is the ONLY way to regain battery life. If I unlock the fps at 10W I get a performance of 35-42fps in a CPU/GPU demanding scene and I go for 15W I get 38-48fps, in BOTH cases will have traversal stutters that dip down to 32fps, but sometimes it goes even goes down to 28fps... Ultimately I can't lock the game to 40fps anyway, so it makes sense to lower the TDP to the point where it can consistently hold 30fps. To fiddle with power settings is unfortunately something we have to deal with as long as developers don't do it for us. I would be okay if the Steam Deck 2 was able to scale all the way from 1W-45W. Perhaps even have two identical CPU/GPU clusters, with one disabled when running on battery. That way it would make even more sense to use as a desktop replacement. Personally however, even if it had 45W available, I would still lock the device to 10W to accommodate battery life when unplugged. That's just the nature of owning a handheld. The problem with other "powerful" devices is that they don't necessarily perform better than the Steam Deck, they just offer a higher TDP ceiling (30-45W with 20-25W being where they are most efficient) but when you play them at 5-10W they are generally half as powerful as the Steam Deck. So Ultimately the way forward isn't really on the hardware front, but rather for games to accommodate battery life during the development process.
@@PixelShade 6-22W would be accurate. You can probably go up to 25W but it's not going to be a good experience at all. Sweet spot is really between 15-20. That will give you between 2:30 -3:30 hrs of gameplay in LCD model. A 5 hour batterly life is not going to happen when running current AAA games which I would guess would be the benchmark the new Deck aims for. If it can get 3 hours while running something like Hellblade 2 that would be incredible.
Steam Deck OLED. Without touching the preset settings, I've played... RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon 4, Resident Evil Village, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid V, Star Wars Fallen Order and Just Cause 3 just to name a view. FPS and Visuals are HELLA GOOD!!! I have the 1 TB OLED model. Worth every penny. I get about 2 hrs battery each time. Just get the 1T OLED. Zero regrets.
Other than the other features of the steam deck; people never really sell how amazing the haptic touchpads are. They're absolutely amazing for both switching between the flicks of joysticks and using the mousepad for precision and for strategy/menu based games. They also mesmerizing to just feel and use alone.
That OLED screen is nice, and I've seen from my buddies deck that it really is super user friendly in the setup. I however just picked up the Z1 Ally. For me, this is essentially getting back into PC gaming for the first time since 2004. So I don't already have a steam library to transfer over to something like the deck, or any computer. I had been curious and tempted about all of these different handheld PCs ever since the first steam deck came out. But I've been hesitant to get into any because as underpowered as it is, I already had a Nintendo switch. And that had been adequate to satisfy my enjoyment of portable gaming. Despite the fact that lots of big AAA third party ports had to sacrifice a lot in resolution / texture detail/frame rate. There's still a lot of impressive and stable and playable ports of big games for that little system. It's astounding to me that you can play The Witcher 3 and doom eternal on it lol But there's a lot of games that I wish were available for that system but either for whatever reason nobody ever bothered reporting it over, or are just too technically challenging for it to handle. Theres even a lot of games from like the mid to late 2010s that are never going to work on that thing, never mind games being released now Primarily what I felt was missing from the switch was some kind of contemporary first-person shooter. It's wild to me that they never put even some of the older Call of Duty titles on it. Action adventure titles like the recent Tomb Raider trilogy or things like uncharted (I know that series would never actually be ported to Nintendo but just games like that) Other big open world games just never saw their way over there either. Even though you do have things like The Witcher 3. Comparable games never really came over. For example stuff like Assassin's Creed Origins or Odyssey. You were either stuck with Zelda, or a lot of older open world games like that. Skyrim, kingdoms of amlalur, older Assassin's Creed titles etc. at least they finally have a port of Red Dead Redemption. But no Red Dead 2, no metal gear solid 5, no Ghost recon wildlands. No modern Resident Evil titles, and so much more just completely absent from that platform. So seeing the ally in front of me for under $400, even if it's that underpowered version. I had to check it out. Especially since it's super easy with their armory crate app to connect to Xbox and transfer over my game pass subscription. Giving me a significant amount of games that I can install, and even more that I can stream. Along with a few titles that transfer it over just from play anywhere. So now all of a sudden I do have a way to play a lot of these games portably. And I haven't really run into much that I can't get running on it. The worst was the dead space remake, on the lowest settings it would still stutter, however it plays really well from the cloud. Thankfully it's also easy to launch steam, that way I can still get a few games that aren't available through Xbox. Elden ring abs red Dead 2 are running really well. This is actually my first experience with Elden Ring even. It is a super cozy game to play in bed. But I'm aware that ASUS is not the most consumer friendly when it comes to defects and repairs etc. It's definitely not as intuitive to use. It's certainly all of the benefits but also drawbacks of windows. I had one day where I just wanted to pick it up and play a game but I spent at least an hour if not to going through tons of different updates, getting locked out of my PIN number after one of them and meeting to go through a ton of different password security checks to finally get that working again. And then even more password security checks to relaunch a lot of the game launchers. It was quite frustrating So there's something to be said for valve setting up the steam deck in a way where it mimics the ease of use of a console If you read all of this you're the coolest
I absolutely loved my legion go for the 12 days i had it before it bricked itself, turned it off one evening and the next day when i turned it on it would just hang on the book screen, couldn't even use a windows restore point or factory reset it would just say your pc has run into a problem and restart and then just hand on boot again, returned it to amazon and bought myself a steam deck and i have to say I'm not disappointed at all it might be slightly older tech but for what im using it for you would never notice
You picked the perfect time to release this. I just bought a used LCD 512GB for $250USD and am currently waiting for it to arrive. I've been on the fence for a long time because of the size, but with used prices going down I'm giving it a try. This also might give me the push I need to switch to linux, I've been very fed up with windows lately. All the ads and microsoft bloatware they shove down your throat
5:30 i agree i recently bought steam deck LCD model and sometimes my mom playes on it and she only touched pc like at work or a ps3 that we have at home and she doesnt have a problem using it
True! Unlike Asus, Lenovo and others, Valve gave us the perfect handheld in one iteration. Asus and Lenovo will go through multiple iterations to reach Steam Deck level. It is intentional. They want to keep selling handhelds to you.
I love my Legion Go. Lenovo had to get its software ironed out. Which it finally did. I love my Steam Deck but Steam updates and flatpack updates seem to break games sometimes. That said, for the money, Steam Deck is awesome!
Just curious, how fast does it load a game or resume gameplay? I usually have only 5 to 15 minutes to play games before I go to sleep. Currently, I’m quite happy with the Nintendo Switch because it loads very quickly and reliably. However, I’ve been thinking about playing some of the games on the Switch that I already have on Steam. Also, Nintendo games are really expensive. Do you think it’s suitable for me?
The remote play on steam works outside off the same network. You can just leave you PC on with steam open and play from your work/other device at any network.
Need to add file transfers too. This is such an awesome feature when you have to move large files. I have all my 10+ GB games loaded on an external drive on my main rig. As I finish my backlog I can easily wipe the old and add a new without having to download it again. Easily my favorite handheld, and the first I'd recommend.
Steam deck is probably the most important milestone in the industry after Nitendo switch I personally own an oled deck and been using it for 6months, like it a lot however the lack of performance in combination with lower resolution and a lot of indie/japanese games dont support the 16:10 aspect ratio, I'm now looking to switch to a windows handheld.
I used to play on consoles, but I was about to give up gaming because of subscription scams from Sony and Microsoft, and I never cared for pc because I just hate Windows... But that's when the Steam Deck was announced and I decided to pre-ordered one, and that's when I found out about Linux, thanks to the Steam Deck, now all computers at my house runs on Linux. I use Manjaro on my laptop, Bazzite on my main pc, official Steam OS on my Deck and HoloISO on my sister's pc Thanks to the Deck, I also never bothered to buy the PS5 or Xbox whatever it's called nowadays
Hi Rudy! I really enjoyed your video and I found it really interesting, I've been dragging my feet for a while now about getting a steam deck. I had a few questions that weren't in your video but I wanted some clarification. To preface I'm a college student who's going to be a junior in the fall and I commute a lot between school work and home. I have a switch lite, new Nintendo 3ds xl, and I whenever I commute I play mostly on my 3ds since it's a little more portable. when the steam deck was announced I liked the idea of being able to play pc games without having to own a pc. 1. I know the steam deck allows you to be able to play the steam deck wherever you want and allows you to access your steam library. I have a steam account and a few games, but is the steam deck better for people who already have a large catalog of games 2. I'm mainly a Nintendo guy and I currently have a switch lite and a New Nintendo 3ds xl, ifs it better to sell those devices and then just consolidate everything to just the steam deck since it can run pretty much everything I'm fine with selling my switch but not my New Nintendo 3ds I'm a little too attached to it (It's my pokemon/ animal crossing machine) 3. In terms of portability, I commute a lot between my college lectures and I mainly use either my switch or my 3ds due to it being super portable. Is the steam deck something you can take out of the house and use it or is it one of those devices that you don't take out of your house and you keep inside. Hey! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment. 1. Not at all. Like the Nintendo Switch or the 3DS XL, you'll slowly build a library as you go. 2. Emulation runs really great on the Steam Deck, but Switch Emulation is at a stand still with what the Nintendo Ninjas did to Yuzu. I wouldn't sell those andhelds yet, especially the 3DS. 3. Portability is subjective, I think. The Steam Deck is huge compared to the other handhelds. And it makes it hard to recommend it unless you have a backpack or shoulder bag with space for it. Another note, if you can, go with the OLED model. The battery life is so much better on it. Hope that helps!
Steam deck mini would be king. The text size doesn't matter for most triple a games and indie devs can react. Maybe not as good on power etc but it would be great to actually have your steam library in your pocket
Is anyone old enough to be reminded of the Sega Game Gear when they see modern handhelds. That aside, I’m considering this or the Ally X. My issue with the Steam Deck is that I keep hearing that you don’t get cloud saves. If that’s true then that is definitely a deal breaker for me.
With the Ally X, you're tied to whatever launcher you're using, but most PC Launchers offer free Cloud Saves. Steam Deck included. I talked about Cloud Saves on Steam at 09:35.
I bought on February the LCD versión, I've been so happy with it, yesterday I bought the oled version as I'm convinced steam deck is the best handheld for me, and I did the windows based on a SD card to play some hoyoverse titles, I recommend steam deck without any doubt

Hands down the best piece of tech I have had. Bought the 64gb LCD then upgraded to a 512gb SSD. Originally had a 512gb micro sd but just awaiting a 1TB upgrade. Have emulated all the way from NES to Switch and couldnt be happier. One thing I DO wish though is that I had more spare time 😂
Apex Legends and Fall Guys both work on the Deck. Fall guys is just a hassle to install, but it does work. I've seen this said a few times, where people just assume all games with Easy Anti-Cheat aren't supported, which isn't the case. Apex was even listed as "deck verified" on Steam for ages and only recently changed to just "playable".
I love my steam deck. Playing witch spring r and witch spring 3, some tales of games, indies and some adventure shooter games has been a blast on it. I'm new to PC gaming. The deck is the reason I chose to play on PC. I don't think I'm gonna go back to console. The steam deck 2 is something I'm definitely looking forward to owning.
I got an LCD model before the Oled models were announced which annoyed me a bit but honestly they would be maybe 10% better in my mind personally. An Oled screen would be nice as would be the slightly better performance and battery life but for most of the games I have been using my my Steam deck it wouldn't be a drastic change for me. But I highly recommend anyone thinking about getting a steam deck to pay the extra cost to get an oled even if its just the 512gb one. I got the 512gb and two microsd cards. 1 tb one for all my emulators and my totally legally dumped games. and initially a 512gb sd card for extra steam games, I ended up upgrading this to 1.5TB sd card a few weeks ago as it was on sale on prime day. The steam deck is the best purchase I have made in a long time, I get around an extra 10-15 hours of gaming in a week which basically doubles my gaming time allowing me to complete more of my games. However be warned you will buy more games, my steam library increased by over 150+ in the year I have owned my steam deck. I would not recommend the other devices unless there are specific games that are essential for someone like Warzone or Fortnite. Which I don't play but I know dont work. The trackpads are amazing not only for PC games that are designed for a mouse but also for making custom menus or gun wheels.
I am a non-multiplayer, and the most I've done is co-op with my GF, and the steam deck has been great for me. The only games where I have had to lower graphics were 'High on Life' and 'supraland', but everything else, up to Doom 2016, run well. Specs wise I have a 1 terabyte upgrade from a 64 gig model. My deck was pre ordered, and I got it right when they sartte to sell it without preorders. I have done a lot of stem schoolwork. The only school relatd issues I have had with it is Fusion360, due to login issues while duel booting into windows. My deck has been a great choice for my as a gaming pc and my daily school laptop.

Nice video. Slight corrections, Apex Legends and Fall Guys (if you bought it on Steam before Epic bought it, made it exclusive to Epic Games Store and made it free to play) are playable on the Steam Deck.
Agreed, for most people the Steam Deck will be best. For me however the Ally X represents the dream I had as a kid. Any game regardless of when it came out, where it’s availible and if it’s an Indie or AAA will play well. It’s more powerful, more compatible and more versatile, you just have to pay more for those things. I haven’t made a decision on which I’m getting next week yet but I’m leaning towards the Ally X.
Well I think you would really like the legion go as it is similar in specs and abilities of the rog ally but with a better and bigger screen and detachable controllers
Yeah, it checks most marks. I just wish it was lighter. Going back to my OLED Switch after using the SD OLED feels so damn good. Hopefully a gen 2 cuts weight, I'd even get a version without the trackpads. Haven't used them in months.

I've had the Steam Deck for a little over a year. And i love it. But there is more tinkering to be done that most people talk about. And if publishers/developers do an update it could break some games sometimes. Even verified games have issues. A lot of games, including verified, have blurry and small text. That's sometimes hard to read. I usually switch to Desktop mode, and for whatever reason, those games have text that is clear and legible. It's not always just push A and play. It is the closest thing to a console experience on a PC handheld. New users to PC need to research to make sure it can play the games they want. Especially if they may not be too Tech Savy. And like to Tinker.
Apex Legends(not all the time due to EA but the devs go out their way to fix it), Black Desert Online and Smites works on Steam Deck / Linux that list must been old or they never updated. @13:28
Is it worth it to upgrade to the OLED? I've had my Steam Deck LCD 256 GB version for a year now and I love it still. No issues with it, I don't use graphically intensive games on it, just indie and cozy games but just wondering if its worth the upgrade or just wait for a better upgrade later?

@@godfather2386 it depends on which games you play, if it’s mostly light games that aren’t graphically intensive, you’ll be just fine with the steam deck OLED as there’s a certain threshold of FPS in those games that you can’t really see past and the deck reaches that, if you play demanding AAA games you might want to consider waiting for the next set of handhelds from Asus, Lenovo and Valve, or if you play esports titles then a Linux device would not be for you and a windows device would be the better option despite usually being more expensive and having worse battery life than the steam deck. Like I said in the video, there are some games that simply don't work on the handheld and anti-cheat software that prevents games from running too. If those games don't matter to you, then I'd say the Steam Deck is good for you.
I think one important thing everyone is forgetting to mention is that the steam deck oled isn't as accessible to get as the other handhelds where you can purchase from a lot of stores and online stores.

The list of games that are unplayable on steam deck is inaccurate. I play Dead by Daylight frequently on the deck. It works natively without any tinkering.
Technically, but it's more efficient with the way Valve went about it. It's a 6nm process instead of a 7nm one, but performance is basically on par on both LCD and OLED models.

Windows seems like a double edged sword on handheld PCs. Yeah, you technically get more compatibility, but it’s obvious the OS isn’t designed for this form factor unlike SteamOS.
I love my LCD Steam Deck. Sure its limited, sure Linux annoys the crap out of me, and sure, the battery isn't amazing..... BUT.... I'm recovering from an injury where being anywhere but lying down in my bed is uncomfortable for a few days. In that time, I've finished Sleeping Dogs, when I otherwise wouldn't have played anything. My games go places now.

The steam deck ergonomics are so good they made my Xbox elite v2 controller feel like a cheap 30 dollar POP controller every console controller absolutely sucks in terms of ergonomics in compairson to the steam deck, it's ridiculous how comfortable the steam deck is
At first I tempted to buy legion go, but since I already have gpd wm 2023 ( and it have problem with hardware or software, I RMA it), I prefer the device that have supported OS from the manufacture like conventional console, but still have flexibility of PC and should be cheaper than gpd wm. So I choose the refurbished 64gb lcd steam deck, open it and upgrade the ssd to 1tb with ssd lying around from gpd wm, add the 512gb sd card for windows (just to test it and it's a bit horrible since I got issue installing the driver, heck even my laptop with win 11 have problem that ms support can't resolve it) and I gaming around almost everyday more than I used to.
I’m on console and I play XDefiant which isn’t on steam. Is it possible to add games from other sources? I want to keep it as simple and streamlined as possible like my experience on console
I haven’t researched thoroughly yet, but excluding the games that need an exclusive windows app to run multiplayer there are methods to get f.i. The epic store running on it. Like I said, I haven’t looked deeply into it, but it looks like there are apps to run non steam games.
Thanks! He was looking for things to do after school and during the summer. One day he decided he wanted to do things that wouldn't entertain only him but also others. He decided coding would be the way to go. He was always fascinated how large scale games like Minecraft were made with large servers to support them. So he searched online and he learned about Scratch. It's block based, but essentially JavaScript. He found Scratch tutorials on UA-cam. Then he found Griffpatch tutorials (a UA-cam channel) and started learning more about different aspects of coding in Scratch. Now he's in the middle of a course and learning how to build a game.
Isn’t stick drift a big issue with the steam deck I’m considering getting one over a Nintendo switch however the stick drift issue concerns me. Is there something on the steam deck that helps you prevent/ fix it?
Nope. Stick drift was only an issue when it first launched, but got fixed via software update. You can get hall sensing replacements if you're concerned.

Depends. The real advantage of the ally is playing docked at 1080p with turbo mode and cheaper name upgrades (2280 nvmes are generally cheaper and easier to find). If you get a 2tb nvmes then you won't need to swap micro SD. If you won't play docked or absolutely need to use micro SD and are willing to play at 800p then the deck will be a cheaper and better option.
I enjoy the Steam Deck and has only failed me with some emulated games. I have windows 11 installed. My 512gb that came with it has SteamOS. I might go further at some point and install Opencore. Do a SteamOS, MacOS, and Win 11 tri boot. I have been wanting something like this since Razer came out with theirs a few years back. This replaced my mac pro cmp 5;1. If you can’t tell I tinker a lot. I beefed it out with the best 2tb ssd internal. But I will upgrade the sdxc to 1.5tb at some point. Just don’t have a current gen xbox. Everything else i got.
I enjoyed my SDOLED but I had a lot of issues with the WiFi where it wouldn’t connect at times. Customer support blamed it on my router even though everything else connected fine🤔. So I sold it. Got a Rog ally and I enjoyed the option of playing more games. But the battery was not it. I’m thinking of trading it in for this.
You can get grips and accessories for the go too, what make the steam deck so that is the 800p if 1080p ? Maybe i think it needs to be 1440p or 1600p. i think it is in second place i oled, not it . You can't really see a big difference between 800p vs 1080p on a small display, and the gains in performance are MASSIVE. The 800p display is how the Steam Deck can get such great batterly life compared to the other handheld PCs. Where it struggles is if you want to use it as a desktop PC substitute, because it's not really suited for 1080p gaming unless you are exclusively playing games from 2015 or older. It's still serviceable at 1080p but you are gonna be shooting for around 30fps in most newish games.
The only thing that’s making me drift towards buying a rog ally over the stream deck is the fact that I only play r6 siege , cod & apex legends , and if I’m right I don’t think any of these can be played in the steam deck ??
my steam deck arrives today, i have a 4070 desktop pc. What i want is a handheld gaming device thats like a console and like a pc---the Steam Dec. what i dont want is a handheld that forces windows to run on a smaller screen which makes it just janky. idk

Every day I spend with my steam deck I grow to hate it just a little bit more. The CONSTANT (and I mean at least 10 times a day) black screen of death that valve swears the only solution to is an RMA, the almost daily freezing that happens when resuming from from sleep. Pretty useless feature when I have to force reset to use it after waking it up. And the fact that I still believe the thing is incredibly underpowered.
@@baldlyrudy It happens across both my LCD and OLED and is a very known issue. My buddy just a had a kid and bought a deck, he says his does the same thing. There's no way it's a hardware issue and if it is, valve should be doing more to fix it than just replacing it with one that will inevitably do it again. I see the black screen of death post on Reddit pretty frequently.

You don't need a mouse and keyboard to play games, but you can if you want. The touchpads are pretty good if you need something like that. There aren't many games that don't work on the Steam Deck at this point. SteamOS has matured really well.
what about the game pass incompatibility??? That's a major negative point as I already have a game pass used across 3 devices. To me its a given I will have a game pass. Buying a handheld pc that cannot access it, is the one thing that stops me from buying it. At this point I am pointing towards the Legion Go and unless that changes its the one I will buy.
For sure. If Game Pass is a big deal, then I'd go with a Windows PC Handheld. The ROG Ally X is probably going to be the best handheld on paper. The Legion Go's screen is 🤌.

If windows wasn't so awful for handhelds I would choose... Something...
But, Steam doesn't directly interfere with your gaming experience.. It doesn't randomly decide to replace your drivers with generic ones that don't work.. It doesn't randomly shut down your Deck for a 'critical update'.. It doesn't magically decide to run a bunch of random junk in the background even though you've shut everything else down.. And it doesn't shove ADs in your face when you open the home menu or file explorer... Windows does all of that... SteamOS doesn't

I finally got the Steam Deck LCD….one month before the OLED was announced. Hopefully they announce a Steam Deck 2 soon because I can’t drop another $600 for the OLED.
I got my oled used 3 weeks ago local for $450. Seller had even upgraded the SSD to 1Tb he hot a legion Go and he said he liked it more due to the games he plays that require windows. For what I play the deck is perfect! Indies, RPGs, and some shooters. I don’t need more. I haven’t turned on my pc in the 3 weeks I’ve had it. I love it. I haven’t had a console that makes me feel like a kid opening up my PS3 on Christmas Day again lol. The steam deck has brought my love back for gaming. I’m 21 now so I guess im at that age where life starts to ramp up and little time for games between work, My girlfriend, and family.

The biggest benefit you get with the Deck is all the deeply integrated software support from it being manufactured by Valve (the biggest distributor of PC games) and because of that having a huge push to make games distributed on their plaform work on it out of the box whenever possible
The portable version of SteamOS it uses even has a dedicated tab for games fully Steam Deck certified in your library page so you can quickly get to a list of games guaranteed to work great on it

You picked the best option possible. Sure the others have amazing performance, but a lot of them require tinkering. The Steam Deck is usually just install and hit the play button. It's outselling the Rog and Legion Go 3 to 1, probably more.
I love my Steam Deck OLED. Been enjoying fighting games’ CPU VS CPU modes as well as EmuDeck.

I got into handheld PCs several years ago with the Win 2 and have gotten EVERY handheld since. This includes the original Deck as well as the OLED deck. The most recent devices I've had is Ally z1 extreme, legion Go, Win 4, Win Mini, as well as various Aya and onexplayer devices and out of all of them, the OLED deck is the one device I keep going back to. It might not be the most powerful, but it gets the job done with the best display and the least amount of jank.
I love my Deck too. Like you said, I love the ease of use the Deck offers, I love using SteamLink to stream on my laptop without the need to have a monitor , mouse and keyboard plugged on the Deck.
I hope when Valve makes the Deck 2 the batter life could last minimum 5 hours without tinkering any of the performance settings. (i hope battery technology has improved in the future too)
The real solution for this is for developers to actually develop their games with battery optimization in mind. The Steam Deck offers 3-15W. But handheld devices shouldn't run above 10W. The last 5W is really reserved for "docked play" and you get very little performance/watt in that last stretch on the Steam Deck APU. So just limit it your device to 10W and adjust your in-game settings accordingly. I have set Cyberpunk to 9W, locked to 30fps on the LCD model... I use "Low Preset" but with "High Textures", Medium Shadows-, Ambient Occlussion- and Volumetric Fog. and then I have set the game to 1440x900 (super sampled) with FSR Performance. It looks great this way. plays great and gives me 2.5-3h even on the LCD model.
If you don't want to mess around, having a hard cap at 10W makes sense if you want battery life. Some games will just use up all the power they can get because they were never optimized for "battery life" in the first place (but rather optimized for max performance on desktop computers). Cyberpunk is one such game, it will just activate and fill up all the CPU threads "just in case", so limiting TDP is the ONLY way to regain battery life. If I unlock the fps at 10W I get a performance of 35-42fps in a CPU/GPU demanding scene and I go for 15W I get 38-48fps, in BOTH cases will have traversal stutters that dip down to 32fps, but sometimes it goes even goes down to 28fps... Ultimately I can't lock the game to 40fps anyway, so it makes sense to lower the TDP to the point where it can consistently hold 30fps. To fiddle with power settings is unfortunately something we have to deal with as long as developers don't do it for us.
I would be okay if the Steam Deck 2 was able to scale all the way from 1W-45W. Perhaps even have two identical CPU/GPU clusters, with one disabled when running on battery. That way it would make even more sense to use as a desktop replacement. Personally however, even if it had 45W available, I would still lock the device to 10W to accommodate battery life when unplugged. That's just the nature of owning a handheld. The problem with other "powerful" devices is that they don't necessarily perform better than the Steam Deck, they just offer a higher TDP ceiling (30-45W with 20-25W being where they are most efficient) but when you play them at 5-10W they are generally half as powerful as the Steam Deck. So Ultimately the way forward isn't really on the hardware front, but rather for games to accommodate battery life during the development process.
@@PixelShade 6-22W would be accurate. You can probably go up to 25W but it's not going to be a good experience at all. Sweet spot is really between 15-20. That will give you between 2:30 -3:30 hrs of gameplay in LCD model. A 5 hour batterly life is not going to happen when running current AAA games which I would guess would be the benchmark the new Deck aims for. If it can get 3 hours while running something like Hellblade 2 that would be incredible.
Steam Deck OLED. Without touching the preset settings, I've played... RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon 4, Resident Evil Village, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid V, Star Wars Fallen Order and Just Cause 3 just to name a view. FPS and Visuals are HELLA GOOD!!! I have the 1 TB OLED model. Worth every penny. I get about 2 hrs battery each time. Just get the 1T OLED. Zero regrets.

Other than the other features of the steam deck; people never really sell how amazing the haptic touchpads are. They're absolutely amazing for both switching between the flicks of joysticks and using the mousepad for precision and for strategy/menu based games. They also mesmerizing to just feel and use alone.
I can't put my SD down and suits my life perfectly. Happily playing elden ring, cyberpunk, balders gate 3 and red dead 2 😁
That OLED screen is nice, and I've seen from my buddies deck that it really is super user friendly in the setup.
I however just picked up the Z1 Ally. For me, this is essentially getting back into PC gaming for the first time since 2004. So I don't already have a steam library to transfer over to something like the deck, or any computer.
I had been curious and tempted about all of these different handheld PCs ever since the first steam deck came out. But I've been hesitant to get into any because as underpowered as it is, I already had a Nintendo switch. And that had been adequate to satisfy my enjoyment of portable gaming. Despite the fact that lots of big AAA third party ports had to sacrifice a lot in resolution / texture detail/frame rate. There's still a lot of impressive and stable and playable ports of big games for that little system. It's astounding to me that you can play The Witcher 3 and doom eternal on it lol
But there's a lot of games that I wish were available for that system but either for whatever reason nobody ever bothered reporting it over, or are just too technically challenging for it to handle. Theres even a lot of games from like the mid to late 2010s that are never going to work on that thing, never mind games being released now
Primarily what I felt was missing from the switch was some kind of contemporary first-person shooter. It's wild to me that they never put even some of the older Call of Duty titles on it.
Action adventure titles like the recent Tomb Raider trilogy or things like uncharted (I know that series would never actually be ported to Nintendo but just games like that)
Other big open world games just never saw their way over there either. Even though you do have things like The Witcher 3. Comparable games never really came over. For example stuff like Assassin's Creed Origins or Odyssey. You were either stuck with Zelda, or a lot of older open world games like that. Skyrim, kingdoms of amlalur, older Assassin's Creed titles etc. at least they finally have a port of Red Dead Redemption. But no Red Dead 2, no metal gear solid 5, no Ghost recon wildlands.
No modern Resident Evil titles, and so much more just completely absent from that platform.
So seeing the ally in front of me for under $400, even if it's that underpowered version. I had to check it out. Especially since it's super easy with their armory crate app to connect to Xbox and transfer over my game pass subscription. Giving me a significant amount of games that I can install, and even more that I can stream. Along with a few titles that transfer it over just from play anywhere. So now all of a sudden I do have a way to play a lot of these games portably. And I haven't really run into much that I can't get running on it. The worst was the dead space remake, on the lowest settings it would still stutter, however it plays really well from the cloud.
Thankfully it's also easy to launch steam, that way I can still get a few games that aren't available through Xbox. Elden ring abs red Dead 2 are running really well. This is actually my first experience with Elden Ring even. It is a super cozy game to play in bed.
But I'm aware that ASUS is not the most consumer friendly when it comes to defects and repairs etc. It's definitely not as intuitive to use. It's certainly all of the benefits but also drawbacks of windows. I had one day where I just wanted to pick it up and play a game but I spent at least an hour if not to going through tons of different updates, getting locked out of my PIN number after one of them and meeting to go through a ton of different password security checks to finally get that working again. And then even more password security checks to relaunch a lot of the game launchers. It was quite frustrating
So there's something to be said for valve setting up the steam deck in a way where it mimics the ease of use of a console

I absolutely loved my legion go for the 12 days i had it before it bricked itself, turned it off one evening and the next day when i turned it on it would just hang on the book screen, couldn't even use a windows restore point or factory reset it would just say your pc has run into a problem and restart and then just hand on boot again, returned it to amazon and bought myself a steam deck and i have to say I'm not disappointed at all it might be slightly older tech but for what im using it for you would never notice

True! Unlike Asus, Lenovo and others, Valve gave us the perfect handheld in one iteration. Asus and Lenovo will go through multiple iterations to reach Steam Deck level. It is intentional. They want to keep selling handhelds to you.

I love my Legion Go. Lenovo had to get its software ironed out. Which it finally did. I love my Steam Deck but Steam updates and flatpack updates seem to break games sometimes. That said, for the money, Steam Deck is awesome!

Just curious, how fast does it load a game or resume gameplay? I usually have only 5 to 15 minutes to play games before I go to sleep. Currently, I’m quite happy with the Nintendo Switch because it loads very quickly and reliably. However, I’ve been thinking about playing some of the games on the Switch that I already have on Steam. Also, Nintendo games are really expensive. Do you think it’s suitable for me?

The remote play on steam works outside off the same network. You can just leave you PC on with steam open and play from your work/other device at any network.
I love the steam deck. I have the original and it’s awesome. You do amazing things with it especially if you are into retro games.
Need to add file transfers too. This is such an awesome feature when you have to move large files. I have all my 10+ GB games loaded on an external drive on my main rig. As I finish my backlog I can easily wipe the old and add a new without having to download it again. Easily my favorite handheld, and the first I'd recommend.
Steam deck is probably the most important milestone in the industry after Nitendo switch I personally own an oled deck and been using it for 6months, like it a lot however the lack of performance in combination with lower resolution and a lot of indie/japanese games dont support the 16:10 aspect ratio, I'm now looking to switch to a windows handheld.
I used to play on consoles, but I was about to give up gaming because of subscription scams from Sony and Microsoft, and I never cared for pc because I just hate Windows... But that's when the Steam Deck was announced and I decided to pre-ordered one, and that's when I found out about Linux, thanks to the Steam Deck, now all computers at my house runs on Linux. I use Manjaro on my laptop, Bazzite on my main pc, official Steam OS on my Deck and HoloISO on my sister's pc
Thanks to the Deck, I also never bothered to buy the PS5 or Xbox whatever it's called nowadays

I really enjoyed your video and I found it really interesting, I've been dragging my feet for a while now about getting a steam deck. I had a few questions that weren't in your video but I wanted some clarification.
To preface I'm a college student who's going to be a junior in the fall and I commute a lot between school work and home. I have a switch lite, new Nintendo 3ds xl, and I whenever I commute I play mostly on my 3ds since it's a little more portable. when the steam deck was announced I liked the idea of being able to play pc games without having to own a pc.
1. I know the steam deck allows you to be able to play the steam deck wherever you want and allows you to access your steam library. I have a steam account and a few games, but is the steam deck better for people who already have a large catalog of games
2. I'm mainly a Nintendo guy and I currently have a switch lite and a New Nintendo 3ds xl, ifs it better to sell those devices and then just consolidate everything to just the steam deck since it can run pretty much everything I'm fine with selling my switch but not my New Nintendo 3ds I'm a little too attached to it (It's my pokemon/ animal crossing machine)
3. In terms of portability, I commute a lot between my college lectures and I mainly use either my switch or my 3ds due to it being super portable. Is the steam deck something you can take out of the house and use it or is it one of those devices that you don't take out of your house and you keep inside.

1. Not at all. Like the Nintendo Switch or the 3DS XL, you'll slowly build a library as you go.
2. Emulation runs really great on the Steam Deck, but Switch Emulation is at a stand still with what the Nintendo Ninjas did to Yuzu. I wouldn't sell those andhelds yet, especially the 3DS.
3. Portability is subjective, I think. The Steam Deck is huge compared to the other handhelds. And it makes it hard to recommend it unless you have a backpack or shoulder bag with space for it.
Another note, if you can, go with the OLED model. The battery life is so much better on it.

Steam deck mini would be king. The text size doesn't matter for most triple a games and indie devs can react. Maybe not as good on power etc but it would be great to actually have your steam library in your pocket

That aside, I’m considering this or the Ally X. My issue with the Steam Deck is that I keep hearing that you don’t get cloud saves. If that’s true then that is definitely a deal breaker for me.
With the Ally X, you're tied to whatever launcher you're using, but most PC Launchers offer free Cloud Saves. Steam Deck included.

Yeah man. At a low TDP you can get some crazy hours on it. The same goes for the ROG Ally X.
Hands down the best piece of tech I have had. Bought the 64gb LCD then upgraded to a 512gb SSD. Originally had a 512gb micro sd but just awaiting a 1TB upgrade. Have emulated all the way from NES to Switch and couldnt be happier. One thing I DO wish though is that I had more spare time 😂

I'm loving my steam deck. I don't mind playing older, indie or games at a lower fps and lower quality.
Apex Legends and Fall Guys both work on the Deck. Fall guys is just a hassle to install, but it does work. I've seen this said a few times, where people just assume all games with Easy Anti-Cheat aren't supported, which isn't the case. Apex was even listed as "deck verified" on Steam for ages and only recently changed to just "playable".

I love my steam deck. Playing witch spring r and witch spring 3, some tales of games, indies and some adventure shooter games has been a blast on it. I'm new to PC gaming. The deck is the reason I chose to play on PC. I don't think I'm gonna go back to console. The steam deck 2 is something I'm definitely looking forward to owning.
I got an LCD model before the Oled models were announced which annoyed me a bit but honestly they would be maybe 10% better in my mind personally. An Oled screen would be nice as would be the slightly better performance and battery life but for most of the games I have been using my my Steam deck it wouldn't be a drastic change for me. But I highly recommend anyone thinking about getting a steam deck to pay the extra cost to get an oled even if its just the 512gb one. I got the 512gb and two microsd cards. 1 tb one for all my emulators and my totally legally dumped games. and initially a 512gb sd card for extra steam games, I ended up upgrading this to 1.5TB sd card a few weeks ago as it was on sale on prime day.
The steam deck is the best purchase I have made in a long time, I get around an extra 10-15 hours of gaming in a week which basically doubles my gaming time allowing me to complete more of my games. However be warned you will buy more games, my steam library increased by over 150+ in the year I have owned my steam deck. I would not recommend the other devices unless there are specific games that are essential for someone like Warzone or Fortnite. Which I don't play but I know dont work. The trackpads are amazing not only for PC games that are designed for a mouse but also for making custom menus or gun wheels.
I am a non-multiplayer, and the most I've done is co-op with my GF, and the steam deck has been great for me. The only games where I have had to lower graphics were 'High on Life' and 'supraland', but everything else, up to Doom 2016, run well.
Specs wise I have a 1 terabyte upgrade from a 64 gig model. My deck was pre ordered, and I got it right when they sartte to sell it without preorders.
I have done a lot of stem schoolwork. The only school relatd issues I have had with it is Fusion360, due to login issues while duel booting into windows.
My deck has been a great choice for my as a gaming pc and my daily school laptop.
Man i love how the steam deck feels and looks. My boy had one i was going to buy it off him and the ally got announced i got that a d yea steam deck is bit more comfortablebut dam the ally every game ive played on it has ran amazing and experience has been flawless, performance, screen and the god tier speakers!
Nice video. Slight corrections, Apex Legends and Fall Guys (if you bought it on Steam before Epic bought it, made it exclusive to Epic Games Store and made it free to play) are playable on the Steam Deck.

Agreed, for most people the Steam Deck will be best. For me however the Ally X represents the dream I had as a kid. Any game regardless of when it came out, where it’s availible and if it’s an Indie or AAA will play well. It’s more powerful, more compatible and more versatile, you just have to pay more for those things. I haven’t made a decision on which I’m getting next week yet but I’m leaning towards the Ally X.
Well I think you would really like the legion go as it is similar in specs and abilities of the rog ally but with a better and bigger screen and detachable controllers

Yeah, it checks most marks. I just wish it was lighter. Going back to my OLED Switch after using the SD OLED feels so damn good. Hopefully a gen 2 cuts weight, I'd even get a version without the trackpads. Haven't used them in months.

Hori split pad pro. I have them and they are amazing. They're really nice to hold. Only issue is they lack wireless, motion controls and vibration.
I've had the Steam Deck for a little over a year. And i love it. But there is more tinkering to be done that most people talk about. And if publishers/developers do an update it could break some games sometimes. Even verified games have issues. A lot of games, including verified, have blurry and small text. That's sometimes hard to read. I usually switch to Desktop mode, and for whatever reason, those games have text that is clear and legible. It's not always just push A and play. It is the closest thing to a console experience on a PC handheld. New users to PC need to research to make sure it can play the games they want. Especially if they may not be too Tech Savy. And like to Tinker.
Apex Legends(not all the time due to EA but the devs go out their way to fix it), Black Desert Online and Smites works on Steam Deck / Linux that list must been old or they never updated. @13:28

Is it worth it to upgrade to the OLED? I've had my Steam Deck LCD 256 GB version for a year now and I love it still. No issues with it, I don't use graphically intensive games on it, just indie and cozy games but just wondering if its worth the upgrade or just wait for a better upgrade later?
Hmm...the Steam Deck OLED has been out for a bit. At this point, it might be worth it to wait for the next iteration.

@@godfather2386 it depends on which games you play, if it’s mostly light games that aren’t graphically intensive, you’ll be just fine with the steam deck OLED as there’s a certain threshold of FPS in those games that you can’t really see past and the deck reaches that, if you play demanding AAA games you might want to consider waiting for the next set of handhelds from Asus, Lenovo and Valve, or if you play esports titles then a Linux device would not be for you and a windows device would be the better option despite usually being more expensive and having worse battery life than the steam deck. Long story short though, it really depends on what games you mainly play and what you want out of the handheld. Like I said in the video, there are some games that simply don't work on the handheld and anti-cheat software that prevents games from running too. If those games don't matter to you, then I'd say the Steam Deck is good for you.
Near an outlet? LED. But today the steam deck is acting as a standard candle, which is wonderful.
I think one important thing everyone is forgetting to mention is that the steam deck oled isn't as accessible to get as the other handhelds where you can purchase from a lot of stores and online stores.

The list of games that are unplayable on steam deck is inaccurate. I play Dead by Daylight frequently on the deck. It works natively without any tinkering.
I've found a way to play almost every single game I've wanted to. Wine / Proton is the way.
I'm just going to ask is the processing power better on the oled? My steam deck is probably going to spend more time in the dock by the tv.
Technically, but it's more efficient with the way Valve went about it. It's a 6nm process instead of a 7nm one, but performance is basically on par on both LCD and OLED models.

Windows seems like a double edged sword on handheld PCs. Yeah, you technically get more compatibility, but it’s obvious the OS isn’t designed for this form factor unlike SteamOS.

Just got one a week ago and just installed a ton of emulators. It is amazing to be able to play switch games or any other older console games.
Changing out the 64gb to a 1tb was also very easy if you follow a UA-cam guide.

I love my LCD Steam Deck. Sure its limited, sure Linux annoys the crap out of me, and sure, the battery isn't amazing..... BUT....
I'm recovering from an injury where being anywhere but lying down in my bed is uncomfortable for a few days. In that time, I've finished Sleeping Dogs, when I otherwise wouldn't have played anything. My games go places now.

The steam deck ergonomics are so good they made my Xbox elite v2 controller feel like a cheap 30 dollar POP controller every console controller absolutely sucks in terms of ergonomics in compairson to the steam deck, it's ridiculous how comfortable the steam deck is
At first I tempted to buy legion go, but since I already have gpd wm 2023 ( and it have problem with hardware or software, I RMA it), I prefer the device that have supported OS from the manufacture like conventional console, but still have flexibility of PC and should be cheaper than gpd wm. So I choose the refurbished 64gb lcd steam deck, open it and upgrade the ssd to 1tb with ssd lying around from gpd wm, add the 512gb sd card for windows (just to test it and it's a bit horrible since I got issue installing the driver, heck even my laptop with win 11 have problem that ms support can't resolve it) and I gaming around almost everyday more than I used to.
Steam deck is only available in select countries. In my country, the LCD is more expensive than the ROG Ally Z1 extreme.
Then go with the Ally Z1 Extreme.
I don't need a handheld pc, but I would love to lay in bed and play my steam library.

I haven’t researched thoroughly yet, but excluding the games that need an exclusive windows app to run multiplayer there are methods to get f.i. The epic store running on it.
Like I said, I haven’t looked deeply into it, but it looks like there are apps to run non steam games.

Thanks! He was looking for things to do after school and during the summer.
One day he decided he wanted to do things that wouldn't entertain only him but also others. He decided coding would be the way to go. He was always fascinated how large scale games like Minecraft were made with large servers to support them. So he searched online and he learned about Scratch. It's block based, but essentially JavaScript.
He found Scratch tutorials on UA-cam. Then he found Griffpatch tutorials (a UA-cam channel) and started learning more about different aspects of coding in Scratch. Now he's in the middle of a course and learning how to build a game.

Isn’t stick drift a big issue with the steam deck I’m considering getting one over a Nintendo switch however the stick drift issue concerns me. Is there something on the steam deck that helps you prevent/ fix it?
Nope. Stick drift was only an issue when it first launched, but got fixed via software update.
You can get hall sensing replacements if you're concerned.

Depends. The real advantage of the ally is playing docked at 1080p with turbo mode and cheaper name upgrades (2280 nvmes are generally cheaper and easier to find). If you get a 2tb nvmes then you won't need to swap micro SD.
If you won't play docked or absolutely need to use micro SD and are willing to play at 800p then the deck will be a cheaper and better option.

I enjoy the Steam Deck and has only failed me with some emulated games. I have windows 11 installed. My 512gb that came with it has SteamOS.
I might go further at some point and install Opencore. Do a SteamOS, MacOS, and Win 11 tri boot.
I have been wanting something like this since Razer came out with theirs a few years back.
This replaced my mac pro cmp 5;1.
If you can’t tell I tinker a lot. I beefed it out with the best 2tb ssd internal. But I will upgrade the sdxc to 1.5tb at some point.
Just don’t have a current gen xbox. Everything else i got.
I enjoyed my SDOLED but I had a lot of issues with the WiFi where it wouldn’t connect at times. Customer support blamed it on my router even though everything else connected fine🤔. So I sold it. Got a Rog ally and I enjoyed the option of playing more games. But the battery was not it. I’m thinking of trading it in for this.
Embargo is up, so I can say this now. The battery on the ROG Ally X provides more than double the battery life at the same TDP as the Ally.
It is still the best though I don't have the OLED version
You can get grips and accessories for the go too, what make the steam deck so that is the 800p if 1080p ? Maybe i think it needs to be 1440p or 1600p. i think it is in second place i oled, not it . You can't really see a big difference between 800p vs 1080p on a small display, and the gains in performance are MASSIVE. The 800p display is how the Steam Deck can get such great batterly life compared to the other handheld PCs. Where it struggles is if you want to use it as a desktop PC substitute, because it's not really suited for 1080p gaming unless you are exclusively playing games from 2015 or older. It's still serviceable at 1080p but you are gonna be shooting for around 30fps in most newish games.

The only thing that’s making me drift towards buying a rog ally over the stream deck is the fact that I only play r6 siege , cod & apex legends , and if I’m right I don’t think any of these can be played in the steam deck ??

my steam deck arrives today, i have a 4070 desktop pc. What i want is a handheld gaming device thats like a console and like a pc---the Steam Dec. what i dont want is a handheld that forces windows to run on a smaller screen which makes it just janky. idk
Definitely prefer my steam deck over my ally less problems. Sure I can’t play call of duty on my steam deck, but my ally won’t even launch cod and kingdom hearts runs great on my deck and keeps crashing on my ally…

Every day I spend with my steam deck I grow to hate it just a little bit more.
The CONSTANT (and I mean at least 10 times a day) black screen of death that valve swears the only solution to is an RMA, the almost daily freezing that happens when resuming from from sleep. Pretty useless feature when I have to force reset to use it after waking it up. And the fact that I still believe the thing is incredibly underpowered.
Constant black screens? That's DEFINITELY an RMA worthy issue.
@@baldlyrudy It happens across both my LCD and OLED and is a very known issue. My buddy just a had a kid and bought a deck, he says his does the same thing. There's no way it's a hardware issue and if it is, valve should be doing more to fix it than just replacing it with one that will inevitably do it again. I see the black screen of death post on Reddit pretty frequently.
@@CalamityBaird dang. That's crazy. I have both an LCD and OLED and haven't run into that problem. I did run into that problem with the Ally X, but only before updating the BIOS on the pre-production unit that I have.

You don't need a mouse and keyboard to play games, but you can if you want. The touchpads are pretty good if you need something like that. There aren't many games that don't work on the Steam Deck at this point. SteamOS has matured really well.

what about the game pass incompatibility??? That's a major negative point as I already have a game pass used across 3 devices. To me its a given I will have a game pass. Buying a handheld pc that cannot access it, is the one thing that stops me from buying it. At this point I am pointing towards the Legion Go and unless that changes its the one I will buy.
For sure. If Game Pass is a big deal, then I'd go with a Windows PC Handheld. The ROG Ally X is probably going to be the best handheld on paper. The Legion Go's screen is 🤌.
I play Game Pass on mine. Works a charm as long as you have decent WiFi.
