I agree about the Retroid Pocket 5. I've preordered mine and I got a 1TB MicroSD card on Prime Day. Really looking forward to reliving the joy of my Gamecube and PS2 libraries upscaled on that glorious 1080p 5.5" AMOLED display! I also ordered the dock so I can use it as a console with bluetooth controllers.
I bought the GameCube color RP5 last night and this video proves I made the right choice. Too bad we won't see them probably until late November if people's shipping times reported online are to be believed
Awesome video brother. Loved getting to see the breakdown of all of these. I'm definitely in the same mindset as you with these handhelds. Super glad I found my old psp and was able to mod it, makes it awesome for psp + ps1 games and love it for gba.
I also ordered the white one, but I changed my mind and changed it to Black. Since the screen is OLED and no bezel, you don't have to worry about any aspect ratio.
I really want the mini and the pocket 5, cuz the mini would be a dream to carry around. Perfect for travel ❤ And the rp 5 for home use to immerse myself in the game (cuz of the bigger screen). Will def wait till the first rp 5 reviews come out till i buy one. Rp mini would be an instant buy if the price ratio between rp 5 and mini wouldn't be so narrow. So rp5 will be my first buy ❤
I sold my 2s and got the Mini for the OLED. I have a Steamdeck OLED so I just want a small 4:3 companion. Also this runs Android so I can actually map the control and use it as a controller for my mini drone. pretty sweet.
I bought the RP Mini and the RP5! I'm interested in a potential odin 3 with an oled screen more than anything else atm. I really love the specs on the ayaneo pocket evo (hdr / bfi) but I wish it had back buttons like the odin
Just bought the white Odin 2 Pro. I was looking for a smaller than steamdeck one and done solution. I like what retroid has with the RP Mini and RP5, i just did not want an all front glass cover. I may still consider getting an RP Mini, later on after it gets android 13.
The pocket is a beautiful device, but in my opinion, it’s not exactly the best choice for emulation mainly because it’s so expensive and well technically more powerful than the Odin 2 . It’s not by much and most of that power is more noticeable in native android games not really all that noticeable when it comes emulation just because the emulator is more optimized for the chips that found in the odin 2. Hopefully this helps.
I went for the Odin 2. Have a Retroid 4 and it lacks power and is too cramped for my hands. RP5 looks amazing but still thinking it’ll feel small in the hands
likely going to be picking up the new rp5.. really like the odin but the large bezels of the also non oled screen turn me off. i think the rp5 is the next best thing for me
odin 2 is the best option, powerful chip capable of android (warzone), switch, and windows and battery life to last you a long session and the price is not so bad. really good imo
my galaxy s10e and a gamepad can run PS2 pretty well arguebly better then the RG556, but I still find myself using the RG556. I'm tempted to get a steamdeck next since I use android emulation anyway. But we'll see what happens. Currently I'm trying to find the best mini console that can do PSP perfectly. My s10e can at 4x resolution last I checked. But I want something more pocketable. Like the Trimui Model S or Miyoo A30, sadly the Model S claims PS1 emulation but I've never gotten anything to work on it. And I'm having trouble loading games onto the A30 lmao
Disappointment offering devices : rgb 30, overheats nasty battery drain. Rg406v - a spit glob in the face for 405v owners. Micro improvement at best in performance. Stellar devices you must own: Miyoo mini v4, best sharpest screen, best rumble feature ( it shakes hard) d-pad is comfy. Rg arc D plays everything outside of ps2 and up. 1080 p hdmi out. Dpad is accurate and has no input lag its actually faster than the display it seems. So so devices: 40xxv its h700 chip isn't enough, should have a RK3566 like arc d, rgb30, 353v etc. Nice design with 4in screen. R36s, amazing value, everything you need if you really squeeze every frame out of the chip. Bright screen.
Just get your self 2 devices a good android one and a cheaper one for GBA, GBC or GB for nostalgic experience dont waste your money. Or you a collector than don’t listen to me.
Can I use a Snapdragon 888 phone with a add on controller for most of this functionality? It has a 6.4" AMOLED, and a good SOC. If so, what would anyone's controller recommendation be? It's a S21 FE 8GB/256GB.
@@fiftythirdth I didn’t forget about it. It’s just not my favorite device. I’m not a huge fan of the SP form factor I love clamshells but specifically when it comes to SP style devices it’s just very cramped and I don’t have like especially large hands or anything I just find it quite uncomfortable like if it was about as big as like a Ds lite that would be perfect
I think it really depends on how competent your six-year-old is because some of these devices can get a little screwy once you start messing around on it like all I need to do is accidentally flip a few settings on some of these things and your games look like garbage or are running very poorly A switch would be a far simpler set up, but it would cost quite a bit more than the vast majority of the hand held on this list if you’re confident that nothing will go wrong for six-year-old. I’d say something in the mid range would do really well like a retro pocket five mini or a ambernic rg556
@@taykey17 it’s one of those words that I’ve only ever read and never heard somebody else say out loud other than myself so no one‘s ever checked me on it so I’m not entirely confident in how I pronounce it lol
As a small handheld lover I disagree with you on the Retroid Pocket mini. I think for 200 Dlls an almost pocketable device that can play up to ps2/gamecube is a steal. The quality is better than older Retroid pockets, plus you get an AMOLED. I think if you don’t care about the price that is the best handheld for pocketables. If price is an issue then RG35xx H or SP would be the winner.
Not worth playing PS2 on a screen that small imo. This is why I find the RP2S to be the best handheld of that size. It plays everything worth playing on that screen size. The extra performance on the RPmini feels worthless, and it's less portable, but you get an OLED... For $110 over (more than double the cost of) the RP2S... No thanks. Looking forward to the RP5 though
