Just saw this today and what a trooper. Nor rain, sleet or snow, that pie is going to get cooked and eaten! I love fresh apple pie too. Every once in a while the weathermen get it right. I enjoyed this EPIC video. Thanks
Hi John, you see this is exactly why we all love your channel. Anyone else would be out of that camp FASTER than lighting. What do you do. See it out and cook Apple pie and custard!! lol 😂 Thanks for sharing mate. ATVB. Steve.
I want to thank you for showing such beautiful shots of your country, the fields and rivers, the flowers and critters. Also that shot through the tree, after the rain storm ( 33:36), I could almost smell the scent of the air. Simply a perfect shot. Thanks again John. Karen, in Idaho
I don't think I've ever heard such consistent thunder ( the clips before it started pouring rain). Sounds like an awesome storm. You always know it's close when it's a sharp crack and you can feel the thunder rumble in your body. Keep up the great work. I enjoy your weekly videos!
Thunder Blunders are the coolest part of the adventures...Natures Boom Box...and the head on collision with the tree...think of it this way, at first you cursed the trees...then the thunder came and you hugged them...lol. Epic adventure...now that roasted Chicken was divine to the max! Brother you can cook up some kinda groceries out there...all the better for me because this is what I like.
Very nice video, great food and perfect thunderstorm! Love it. I wish I had seen more footage of your hammock setup but that's probably covered in your other videos which I haven't seen yet.
Its about 9:30 pm where I live and I am watching your video and frickin drooling over that chicken and veggies that you have cooked! I want some now! (New Ulm, Minnesota. USA)
Great meal! I don't normally pack anywhere near as good food for my outings, but very nice to see a full course meal prepared in the woods, especially with the harsh weather rolling in. Thanks for sharing!
Yay! Finally some real greens being cooked and eaten!! haha, I am truly impressed my carnivorous friend. Much respect. Going Hammock camping in 3 weekends ourselves. Good on ya mate.
Wow that thunderstorm was amazing. It's just to bad it interrupted your dinner😟 I can't believe how quickly that storm blew in! You, my friend, are an excellent cook! I like that meal that you made.
Oh how right you are, it doesn't get any better than that! Wild camping, wonderful food and an awesome storm, happy days! Are your camping spots on private land or public? It seems no one else uses the sites or trashes them, that is excellent!
About the falling down bit! You should compile all the blooper parts of your videos together and you could sell them on Ebay! Titled (Carlisle's Cracked up Calamities!) :-) Thunder storm was cool glad you survived it! Did you hear back from DD about the foot box? Thanks for the video Chef will catch ya next week! atb Mark in Texas!
Awesone video! I love thunderstorms. It is a long time since I had one while I was camping. Maybe I will manage to catch one this summer :) Thanks for sharing - Martin
I think that hard fungi you found was a horse's hoof fungus. the inner layers of it are very fiberous so it is good for transporting / starting fires :)
So liked the thunder storm an lightning you could just hear it how epic was that John would of been nice to see are glims of the lightning bolt over hear in New Zealand we get thunder an lightning but not the bolts just the flashes ......but yeah awesome experience john
Another amazing video ... Crazy storm that one crack of thunder sounded like a tree falling it was nuts! How long is your hike normally from town to your camps? - Dan
My young friend , it is good that you are beginning to learn a new appreciation of being " out and about " . . the birds never sing sweeter , the fire never is more welcome , and that first cup of coffee never tastes better than it does after a really bad storm. and , , on the bright side , it probably put some much needed water in that dried-up watering trough the cattle were trying to use , , sheesh , , that algae needs to be cleaned out. .
Ha Ha. Just about that time here in Florida.. Got caught out a few times.. Not so much the heavy downpour and massive number of lightning strikes (always a dice roll, any tree can be "the one"), but the 40, 50, mph winds that blow all that shite sideways. lol.. just not fun anymore. XD As always a great vid, and some outstanding eats.. atb......
hey man, great vid as allways! Just brought me the 4x4 DD tarp, great item. But how on earth do you pack that thing? just stuff it or do you have any better ideas? cheers, Eric
I'd love to be out in that, it all missed us here in the southeast of Ireland, I was off west the weekend, all we had were poxy midgies and tics, good vid as always, take it easy👍
So, THAT'S an epic thunderstorm for the UK. If you liked that, some day, you should come to Tornado Alley in the US in the summer time. You'll get lots of rain in the upper midwest, but if you want Thunder and Lightening that will curl your toes... Come to Texas in the late Spring. And leave your thermal gear at home. I'm binge watching some of your older vids, and I enjoy them almost as much as your current material {9-2019}.. well, Tyson adds the piece de resistance to you new vids.
so beautiful there, epic I have become increasingly aware that your directing, filming, and editing skills are nearly as good as was it David Lean ? he directed The bridge on the river Kwai I prefer Dr Zhivago awesome : )
Great video, truly amazing storm, chef of the woods yet again, what did dd say, I have the dd jura 2 xl sleeping bag and haven't as yet had damp feet in it, interesting to see what they say, cheers craig
They said they have had no issues like this at all that all I got pritty much but Iv used it since then in my teepee and still got wet feet so not using the sleeping bag again if I had more time wen I got up I would of burned it to save carrying it back
did you have an issue with condensation the second night? did DD get back to you? I always get a good chuckle with how much food you bring. i just did a three night hike an only had maybe 2 pounds for food. i can not eat much when i hike. my body will not let me. Mark
Ive got one of these J2's must admit I've never had a condensation issue but i couldn't stand the zip coming undone at the bottom every time I got out and had to mess about doing the zip up again so I permanently stitched it up at the bottom and now don't have that problem any more..however if you burnt yours neither will you now LOL. As for DD they just say "Yeh" sorry about that and if you make any mods to their kit all they want is a picture so they can steel your idea. I started with their kit but have now moved on.....for the better... good vid thanks... Maff
Well I have no idea lol I don't no of one it's not somthing one should be camping in but my plan is close to the ground as I can at the bace of a tree then it is more likely it will hit the tree than me and then wen it hits the tree that's wen I run some say stay away from trees but I say better the trees than a direct hit in the top of the head with no warning
Never shelter under a tree during a thunderstorm pal, lighting can jump over to you and also the electric field produced by the lighting can kill. stay clear of trees, find low ground and crouch down on your haunches.
a army Thanks for the heads up about the lightening jumping, I didn't know that was possible. Could you please explain why you'd want to get to lower ground? I'd assumed higher ground would be better as to steer clear of pooling / running water.
IF your thinking this is the reason for the sleeping bag your wrong lol and yes I dry my feet and legs and put my dry socks back on not just me that had had this problem lots of others with this sleeping bag have to
Dear Sir Carlisle. May I take this opportunity to let you know your camping adventures, danger filled fun times get better everytime I see you. like you man, I for one appreciate you forever. Stay Alive see you soon from Craig White.
just i tip never ever stuff a chicken its not good the middle of the stuffing cooks though and it can make you very ill its ok saying i have never been bad with it but if you get ill who is going to come and find you.great vids keep up the fantastic job
Hey John great upload yet again were still looking for thunder in Newcastle nowt yet Can u tell me how far you walk to first. Camp just for an idea of scale and time thanks Ps/ did Dd get back to u about wet dry box Pps/you're face coz of thunder was hilarious Thanks again for Epic upload Rob

+carlisle195 Cheers John I've always wondered how far you walked I know it's been said b4 but dd should have you involved in there product trials as your only one I bet week after week month after month out there doing the do All the best John 🍺👍🏻
Oh yes, dealing with solitude. I believe I understand. Shortly, I started long ago visiting the mountains with hikers mostly then I noticed all kinds of footprints in the snow. After that no summits were of my interest. I only used to take a dog with me, several times. Still I often visit those high mountain wilderness and never feel myself alone. I might say that I feel solitude among the people that do not understand the nature. Thanks for this great video. I recognized a lot of details I experienced myself through the time. Well done. It must have been great adventure. Take a time and check my channel, please. I believe you will find at least something you'll love to watch 90 uploads ... most of my footage is from the wild. Paul
Don’t camp on a high ridge in thunderstorm.. NO Don’t hug a tree when lightening and thunder are around..amazing though when a storm comes round like this and your outside...you witness the power more so when your outside like you were rather than indoors
Just saw this today and what a trooper. Nor rain, sleet or snow, that pie is going to get cooked and eaten! I love fresh apple pie too. Every once in a while the weathermen get it right. I enjoyed this EPIC video. Thanks

You, my friend, are an excellent cook! I like that meal that you made.
Awesome!!! Great camp chef! Loved the thunder footage, it`s great to be out in it, even if a soaking is on the cards.
Oh how right you are, it doesn't get any better than that! Wild camping, wonderful food and an awesome storm, happy days! Are your camping spots on private land or public? It seems no one else uses the sites or trashes them, that is excellent!

Great video, I really enjoyed the meals you made.
Do you have a video with more detail about that oven you used?
Did you make it yourself?!
Good on you for not breaking camp and running home-thunderstorms can be terrifying.
Nothing like a good thunderstorm to make you feel alive!
So liked the thunder storm an lightning you could just hear it how epic was that John would of been nice to see are glims of the lightning bolt over hear in New Zealand we get thunder an lightning but not the bolts just the flashes ......but yeah awesome experience john

wnchillbilly1 My thoughts exactly! Mother Nature can sometimes be a very cruel witch! But I still love her none the less.
Ha Ha. Just about that time here in Florida.. Got caught out a few times.. I'd love to be out in that, it all missed us here in the southeast of Ireland, I was off west the weekend, all we had were poxy midgies and tics, good vid as always, take it easy👍

Hey me hearty, how do you keep all your nice food from spoiling?
a inner fleece liner may solve the condensation problem for winter use plus one will add extra warmth.
You really know how to eat well in the back country!!
Haha you're crazy, I love it.
Cannot believe it's four years ago, shame this place has been burnt down was my favourite camp .Small and cosy.
Yep enjoyed this bro it was real cracking
did you have an issue with condensation the second night? did DD get back to you? I always get a good chuckle with how much food you bring. i just did a three night hike an only had maybe 2 pounds for food. i can not eat much when i hike. my body will not let me. Mark
Yeah they got back to me told be they have not have other issues like this but I'm not using it again now
And yeah the second night of this trip was the same wet and cold feet
thanks for the information. Mark
I may keep using it for a bit longer to give it a better try but if I wake up with wet feet when I'm burning it
post online while burning it .. lol
cant you make a little roof over the Fire pit with some branches so it wont go out in a rain storm ?
Do you eat all that food?
did you eat all the chicken?
Ive got one of these J2's must admit I've never had a condensation issue but i couldn't stand the zip coming undone at the bottom every time I got out and had to mess about doing the zip up again so I permanently stitched it up at the bottom and now don't have that problem any more..however if you burnt yours neither will you now LOL. Maff
What kind of socks are you wearing and how many pairs do you wear when you sleep?
My socks are not the issue Iv fryed it with different socks and no socks and still had wet feet Iv sent it back now got the hammock quilt
Gortex is supposed to be water proof and breathable. So just wondering why you get so wet....
did enjoy that , your not suffering for food out there :)
You can't beat the old army issue artic sleeping bag and bivvy bag ,heavy but reliable .
John, is there no set plan out there for Preppers and Wild campers to be safe during a sudden thunder storm whilst out in the wild ?.
And I ditch all metal on my person and stay away from barb wire fences lol
But then you got to be on higher ground cos you can get flash floods
Never shelter under a tree during a thunderstorm pal, lighting can jump over to you and also the electric field produced by the lighting can kill. stay clear of trees, find low ground and crouch down on your haunches.
a army Thanks for the heads up about the lightening jumping, I didn't know that was possible.
Could you please explain why you'd want to get to lower ground?
I'd assumed higher ground would be better as to steer clear of pooling / running water.
u ate that whole chicken?
great outing again my friend.did you gat a response from DD hamocks mate i may have missed that bit.
atb
Ted
should of kept the fall in mate! your heard any more from dd?
do you dry your feet after river crossing?
IF your thinking this is the reason for the sleeping bag your wrong lol and yes I dry my feet and legs and put my dry socks back on not just me that had had this problem lots of others with this sleeping bag have to
haha no not the sleeping bag. Your shoes dry fast? I hate wet shoes, but you make it look easy.
