When the weather is stormy and the temperature is low.., you can't beat a meal of hot meat and hot side dishes along with a hot drink..; it makes you feel real cozy.

These episodes are not conducive to my diet....I find myself salivating over the food you cook up. :) I really enjoyed watching that last shelter go up! The wood gods provided a good harvest.

Thanks for all your vlogs. They are really great. I think of myself getting away like this like I used to do as a younger man. I am now 70 from Australia and have travelled the world extensively.
You seem like such a sweet man - always laughing and just enjoying life. You love doing what you do and it shows.
The world could do with many more people like you.
I cant believe the amount you eat!!!!
Please continue your brilliant life and enjoy yourself.
I wait for your next vid.
    Cheers.

You take camp fire cooking to another level!
As for the stove, I had a similar encounter with a Coleman Dual Fuel stove. Brand new from Amazon arrived on the Friday and I used it on Saturday, followed the instructions and while using it the flame travelled down and more or less lit the gas escaping from under the pot stand, thought it was going to explode so in a panic I grabbed it to throw it - doing exactly what you did, burnt myself lol
Never got another one after sending it back.

Yup, I have now switched to "my version" of a hobo stove that David West makes. It is an large coffee can that uses twigs instead of fuel. It can be used in shelters near the door I would think as it does need ventilation. But they are a great backup stove for sure if the weather has turned and cooking outside isn't an option.

    John,
With those MSR whisperlite stoves you have to screw the fuel cap and pump down real hard otherwise they will leak. I had the same trouble. They are good stoves and great for real cold environments.

That 'delivery' of timber could keep you happy for years. With a bit of a think you could get a palisaded settlement off the bugger. Just the off-cuts and discards would feed your fire for as long. Mind you , watching your style of building evolve as it progresses and you are making your way towards a full on Cabin , chain'saw'mill planking, carved hinges the lot., aren't you John.

  • @sleddogsam

Great video and cool concept for the camp. With respect you appeared to be using the stove wrong. The tank is usually kept on its side and will retain pressure for a significant time with minimal pumping. As for the pump breaking.....take it back. MSR has fantastic warranty. I have had 2 dragonflies and a whisperlite for more than 20 years and never had a single failure.

Sorry the stove didn't work out for you, it's the same one I have, and I've been very happy with it. The instructions say to pump it approximately ten times every ten minutes. It's definitely different to work with than a canister stove, but I think the fuel costs much less. And it works a lot better in cold.
