My dad and I started playing this game when I was young, I had no memory card for my playstation so we'd start over every time. I hope every day that he'll be back just to finish it, I turn 18 in a few weeks and still this music brings tears to my eyes. I tell myself its just a game, but really this game made me who I am today. So thank-you WildArms for giving me a memory of my dad that isn't filled with sadness or disappointment, just a father and his son playing a videogame together.
Over 20 years ago, my uncle had a PS1, which was a rare thing here in Romania. Anyway, I used to play on it on rare ocasions and I liked this game, I was about 4-5, maybe 6 years old. After all this time I struggled to remember the name and now I've found it and I've realised that this is where this song was stuck in my head all this time. After 20+ years I still had this song in my head without even knowing where it was from. Awesome song.
My best friend from when I was 13-18 years old, died yesterday. We would play this game for hours on end. His room would have blankets on the walls so we couldnt even tell it was daytime out. One of us would play this game while the other would play Ocarina of Time on the 64. Same room, 2 different TV's. Entire weekend sleepovers. Good ol 2001-2002. Ill miss you Andreas. Even tho we grew apart, I believe being a part of each others lives was a blessing.
I was literally forcing my friends to listen the intro. But nobody loved anime/manga. Though one of my best friends with quite bad musical ear said about the intro and then about the next themes: "it's beautiful music there". The western motives with the nice whistle sounds really good, right? :) I mean I forced to listen the intro but they found that the rest is also a masterpiece. Yes indeed :)
This opening song is so awesome and it's sad this game was overshadowed by FF7 which came out soon after. Well FF7 kicks ass, but this deserves attention to dammit!
I disagree with that statement.. FF7 is overrated as hell.. I still like wild arms more... It's quite memorable and replaying this again... Somehow makes me wanna return to those days
@Shaman Xeed I still believe ff7 to be overrated. I never have a great attachment to ff7 compared to ff4, ff5 (the great gilgamesh), ff6 (thanks to ultros (the GOAT), figaro brothers and celes), or ff9 (got to say zidane is quite a hero) I find ff7 to be just like "that" sort of game... I feel more emotional connection to wild arms 2 instead... So why can't I consider ff7 to be overrated?
Was feeling nostalgic, here in the early summer of 2024. Searched and found this video. It has been a over 20 years since I last played this back in the late 90's. I still got goosebumps from this song, from the sense of adventure it invoked in me. Even felt a little lump in the throat when the video briefly shows the earth golem, because of the Chad it was, and because of the heroic sacrifice it made in the end. I still whistle this song very often, so many years later. And I can say it was because of this song that I can whistle tunes so well today. The land of Filgaia was a wonderful place to get lost in as a kid. 🥹
Damn. 27 years already… If you had this game and a PS1, if you loved turn based RPGs, mangas and Ennio Morricone, that intro must still be tattooed in your heart and brain.
This game is and forever will be one of my favorites since it has so much personal meaning to me. It came out when I was about five or six and I remember wanting so desperately to play it for many years, but my older brother never let me touch his systems. By time I was old enough for him to probably let me play his systems, I wasn't all that interested in the Playstation anymore and stuck basically only to Pokemon. My memory of the plot faded, but the desire to play remained in the very back of my mind. Last year, I finally got the chance to play this game for the first time. It's nothing groundbreaking gameplay-wise and the in-battle graphics haven't aged well, but I got caught up in the waves of nostalgia. The second I heard the opening notes, I felt like I was home. This game just means so much to me because of Cecilia. She had a huge influence on my writing as she was really my first exposure to the princess that would do anything to help her land and make sure it survived. Even so young, I identified with her almost instantly because she was a gentle, quiet idealist like me. She's the reason I had the patience to hang onto this game for around fifteen years until I finally got the chance to play it and I'm glad I did. The characters are so relatable and deep and have become some of my favorites to write about. I truly love this game, the world, and the characters with my entire heart.
Sucks that you didn't get to play this game together with your brother. I had the luck that my sister and mother were both into it and I was like 8 or 9 years old at that time, though I didn't understand much of the game itself. However I'm currently replaying it and found myself again mostly playing as Jack, just as back in the days. Just gotta love hanpan...
I remember I was so proud to solve all the puzzles by myself without any help from sites back in the day. I still whistle this tune from time to time whenever it pops up in my head. The good years.

Nowadays we get bombarded with all these fancy graphics which in 80% of the games feel completely hollow and empty this game had such much heart.
It's not about simplicity really, it's about relationship. Script/scenario complexity cannot replace deep relationship. I'll compare with the FF7 which was released the same year (in USA). WA goes with just 3 personas (vs 9 in FF7), but all of them have really deeper relationhip sometimes than the FF7's triangle, and this is why the game is so good. And the intro is so awesome, even the epic FF7 intro can't stand really.
I heard this soundtrack over some beers with my best friend in the first year of university about 8 years ago. Its pure beauty, feel, and passion drove me to seek out this game and buy it; over a decade after it came out. I don't regret it for a single second. I'll never forget hearing the Town Theme in game for the first time, and actually sitting there listening to it, thinking how simple, yet powerful it was. Each level or area I visited captivated me. This was the first game that did that with the soundtrack alone. Wild Arms holds such a special place in my heart, and I didn't have to play it as a child. It taught me the role that a soundtrack plays in a game's excellence. This game wasn't groundbreaking as an RPG, and truth be told, it doesn't age the best in terms of gameplay. But the music is timeless, and keeps me coming back to it time and time again.
I come back to watch this every so often. I am also 32 years old but damn. The nostalgia tears are real, it's insane. So much love for this game. I kinda understand when people say the music in the game. Is better than the game itself.
i played this game in the 90's has a teenager and yet even tho i'm older now it still brings back good memories of the past in my life plus this never gets boring to me and i seem to enjoy the opening alot
I feel you brother. I currently have the music set as my ring tone. I've even re-played the game recently and it was still just as fun as it was playing it when I was 13 oh so many years ago.
I played this game when it first came out and fell in love with it. I was such a unique idea at the time. It was one of the few games that got me to actually care about characters that were aesthetically no more than 2D sprites. Every time I turn this game on I'll watch the introduction just because it's that well put together. This is one of the all time greats of video game introduction.
A good friend of mine gave me (Disc only) this before I moved to Washington, she told me it was her favorite PlayStation game. Unfortunately, Katelyn passed away seven years ago and I was unable to attend her funeral service back in California due to lack of funds. This opening always reminds me of that moment.
This game was one of my favorite RPGs growing up and this intro echos throughout my life. I find myself looking it up sometimes on UA-cam just to recall those days of playing this beautiful game. Great memories
This opening has it all. amazing soundtrack, great visuals that get a lot across about the story without going into spoilers...can't think of a better one off the top of my head.
It doesn't matter when. Simply every single time I listen to this I remember being 10 years old and listening to Cecilia's intro theme when she wakes up in class and thinking "wow, this is a sad and epic tune". I think this game triggered the whole thing about becoming a musician later in life because every piece haunted me in such a nice way. I still hold this game very dearly until this day. One of my all-time favorites.
Rudy is one of my all time favorite video game characters. I played this as a senior in high school, a friend of mine had it and I hadn't heard of it. Played it religiously and am a huge fan of the whole series now.
Best intro, period. I'll turn 30 next month and I will never forget this. My uncle bought this and he can't understand English so I was just the translator in the beginning but the game turned out the most epic shit ever. Love it and love the whole OST
This was the first game I ever played on Playstation 1, I was 7 years old. Every time I hear this song I go back to my neighbors living room where we didn't have a single worry in the world. What a killer song, thanks Uncle Ron. Miss you Joshua and Daniel.
Played this game as a kid, at a sleep over in detroit for a hockey tournament. It was my friends game. This was probably one of the best games I ever played, we stayed for a week or 2 and I beat it and remember the ending was crazy long. The music still takes me back.
Ur Papa Secret of mana was definitely memorable. And while we're all nostalgic that final fantasy 2 intro was great too. Alot of soundtracks were so memorable for MIDI type music for snes
Watching Rudy cutting off his arm was the painfull thing to watch. I finish this game on 1999. Then I moved to star ocean 2nd story and valkyrie profile. Good times. Still crying for nostalgia.
Such an amazing opening till this day. The music is just something special. I still have the orignal Wild Arms Black Disc. I really enjoyed these games.
This had come when I was in highschool. I borrowed Wild Arms from a buddy of mine, never gotten too far into the game, but loved the intro and it became one of the reasons why I fell in love with videogames.not many people talk about this game/music, but it truly was one of the most evocative pieces I have ever heard in any medium.
My feels went through the roof... i bought Wild Arms XF because i had played the first Wild Arms through my childhood and i just had to come back for a moment to pay respect. I'm crying and i'm happy.
They really don't make JRPG intro's like this anymore. What a very unique time to be alive during this era. I was so excited to boot this game up as a kid, the opening was always the most exciting thing to draw me into the world of Filgaia/Fargaia; and I was always so happy to look forward to opening's like this but 4 was the last good one. This game will always be the most sincerest expression of what true nostalgia is to me.
Oh no,, they definitely do. Most JRPG intros follow this sort of style of opening, and have only improved over the years with meaningful lyrics to go with it. Makes sense having nostalgia for Wild Arms, titles like Revelations: Persona's "Once, I dreamt I was a butterfly" or Trails in the Sky FC's "Hoshi no Arika" had absolutely amazing openings that were meant to convey the experience of those games just like Wild Arms.
@@thequincy_ To be fair I've dropped off the JRPG scene for the past few years. I just know when they started going the 3D route/realtime rendering of openings in the mid to late 2000s seemed like things were losing their charm in the genre.
First RPG I ever played, weird seeing how so many people remember playing this game with dads who aren't here anymore. Well count me in the same boat makes me sad, every time I think of this game all I can remember is how much my dad loved this series.
I agree about Chrono Trigger but this game and series has a very special place in my heart. Chrono Trigger all time greatest game ever though. Wish they would continue the series of both of these games.
Such a great game... I loved this opening too... I'd let it play when I started the game just to see it and hear the theme song. The gameplay was awesome too, deep spell system, cool puzzles, interesting mechanics, great story. Truly a classic.
The original Wild Arm's creator did a joint Kickstarter with the creator of Shadow Hearts. Each Making a new game in the same style as their original but as brand new IP's. "Armed Fantasia" and "Penny Blood"
I never had many friends growing up. But this is one of the games that I did have to spend my time with. There were just some days I'd let this OP play just so I could chill. Eventually my PS1 died on me. Now 20+ years later I often find myself missing this. Not so much to go back to those days, but just to chill.
Given the recent treatment of old IP's I have some worries about any kind of remakes or remasters these days. That said a bundle with all 3 games would be great. Even if they got no real changes to them at all.
I remember borrowing a friend's PSX back in Elementary school and this game was among the bunch that he lent me. I booted it up out of curiosity and was met with this intro and it just burned itself into my mind. I tried the game but I didn't really understand RPGs back then so I never really got into it but as long as I had the console I'd periodically boot it up just so I could listen to the music and see the animation. I still whistle it often when I'm doing odd jobs.
Yeah that would be great! I hope in the future more things like that happen on the Vita. I look at all the JRPGs Japan gets on the Vita and suddenly I become a sad panda.
The is one of the best video game soundtracks ever made, imo. Quite possibly one of the best RPGs ever made as well. Thank you for posting this. It brings me back to my childhood
Still gets me. Great memories of playing this game with my lil bro when we were kids.
Was a kid when I first played this, now I'm a grown man and can't help but fight back tears watching this video.
I constantly whistle this at random times. lol
Same here man stumbled upon this again hearing the whistle theme the nostalgia damn those good old times where RPGs were so great.

Which one better? The remake didnt make it into my country
Freshman or sophomore in college, watched this opening over and over and over and over and over again
33 people have no heart.
One of the most amazing intros/songs of any game, they don't make them like this anymore...
sadly up to 55
How time flies...Childhood memories came flooding back 😭😭😭
They really don't make JRPG intro's like this anymore.
I've never even played a game from the series and this song makes me nostalgic
First RPG I ever played, weird seeing how so many people remember playing this game with dads who aren't here anymore. Well count me in the same boat makes me sad, every time I think of this game all I can remember is how much my dad loved this series.
The first game I played, and the fuckin' best RPG ever.
Same..so awesome
Matteo Bisignano eh chrono trigger will always be number 1
I agree about Chrono Trigger but this game and series has a very special place in my heart. Chrono Trigger all time greatest game ever though. Wish they would continue the series of both of these games.
ChronoCross Xenogears and Phantasy Star 4 say hi...but thats just my oppinion.
Suikoden too
Das wohl beste Intro was jemals für ein Videospiel erstellt wurde. Absolute Legende wie das Spiel
man nostalgia
Ada yg masih suka dengerin di th 2024 ini?
Such a great game... I loved this opening too... I'd let it play when I started the game just to see it and hear the theme song. The gameplay was awesome too, deep spell system, cool puzzles, interesting mechanics, great story. Truly a classic.
the nostalgia is real...feels like home.
I've never even played this game (Only played 2 and 3) and I'm shedding a tear at this OP.
It's so hauntingly beautiful.
このRPGで冒険に想いを馳せていた少年も、今では三十路か・・・・・
私もやってましたw
i can still whistle this tune from memory; i love it so much. i just wish more people gave this game a chance :(
Once I heard the Whistling in the kickstarter I had to come back and listen to this.
This intro makes me so nostalgic every time i heard it.
Kickstarter?, they're funding a new game?
The original Wild Arm's creator did a joint Kickstarter with the creator of Shadow Hearts. Each Making a new game in the same style as their original but as brand new IP's.
"Armed Fantasia" and "Penny Blood"
@@Neomagi125 i'll check them out, thanks
I never had many friends growing up. But this is one of the games that I did have to spend my time with. There were just some days I'd let this OP play just so I could chill. Eventually my PS1 died on me. Now 20+ years later I often find myself missing this. Not so much to go back to those days, but just to chill.
Sony should revive the franchise, they need their killer RPG app, even if just for the Vita.
Given the recent treatment of old IP's I have some worries about any kind of remakes or remasters these days. That said a bundle with all 3 games would be great. Even if they got no real changes to them at all.
The one and only game I watched the intro EVERY SINGLE time I would play the game. Simply, amazing.
The realization that despite having played this game dozens of times in the past 19 years, I still somehow have never finished it...
I get chills, listening to this
This opening, god the nostalgia.
This comment, god the nostalgia.
yes....
We never play something like this on this time p2w like that
That journey, that puzzle, that memories, that story. Man... U will never get this kind of epic game anymore. RIP epic game.
underrated series
I remember borrowing a friend's PSX back in Elementary school and this game was among the bunch that he lent me. I booted it up out of curiosity and was met with this intro and it just burned itself into my mind. I tried the game but I didn't really understand RPGs back then so I never really got into it but as long as I had the console I'd periodically boot it up just so I could listen to the music and see the animation. I still whistle it often when I'm doing odd jobs.
First RPG i played and fell in love with. #1 for me
its still one of my favorite jrpg, had it all good aspect. Amazing soundtrack, good story, dungeon puzzle, sidequest. And item carrot
Yeah that would be great! I hope in the future more things like that happen on the Vita. I look at all the JRPGs Japan gets on the Vita and suddenly I become a sad panda.
Who are you replying to?
@@requiem165 Its a 7 year old comment, back then you couldnt reply directly to other comments
@@AceTobin I know, that’s why I was asking
One of the best Games I’ve played back then, the intro is everything ❤
This music.
THIS MUSIC. arrrrgh the nostalgia is drowning me.
i absolutely love this video/song...i remember watching this over and over and over again
古く、懐かしい、PSの名作だと思う。ワイルドアームズのOP。
Woow, I stil remember I was 16 when I started playing this game was my fave and now iam 40😢 great memories.😢
Somehow...I heared Imperishable Night Eirin's theme: History of the moon...
It resembles Eirin's theme.
I hear it too in a lot of other songs, like "In the Halls of the Usurper" from Shovel Knight
@@reibyouthefirst4662 You do realize this came first right?
Tengo 42 años y esta canción habeces la silvo espontaneamente, cuando e vuelto a escucharla se me a pues la piel de gallina!!! Wild Arms que juegazo!!
good memories of this I wanna cry!
Jack getting chased by a rock and his pet rat :D That really got stuck on my brain.
I was about 11 when this game released. Man.. what an incredible time to grow up in.. the video game creator's really cares for their products
This opening alone is what got me to buy this game.
The is one of the best video game soundtracks ever made, imo. Quite possibly one of the best RPGs ever made as well. Thank you for posting this. It brings me back to my childhood
This sounds like Eirin's theme in Touhou.
