I played this masterpiece when i was 13. Now my age is reversed, i'm now 31. I don't know what to say after watching this opening, i feel like i wanted to cry.. Definitely one of the best RPG's ever created. And the soundtracks in this game is the best of all time for me.

Chrono Cross was a brilliant game and was a top contender for Game of the Year back in 2000. It wasn't underrated. It was excellent, a lot of Chrono Trigger fans just had huge issues with the story.
Sort of how Mortal Kombat fans largely feel about Mortal Kombat 9.

This is the kind of game you'd play in the summer time when you wake up and you think about it when u go outside. When you get back home at night it feels so good. When the school year starts you start to reminisce the times you spent playing it in the summer time.

Some games are fucked up by micro-transactions. If the game cannot be fully enjoyed without paying extra money after purchase, then that's a bad sign; if you're a casual then you probably won't care, but the ones that more money to companies are us gamers. Also, remember when Asura's Wrath ending was locked behind DLC? Yeah, sure, there aren't any games that were messed up because of DLC, am I right?

This game was the best game I ever played! It was perfect! Sorry to those who hated this because of Chrono Trigger. But the plot of time; with a different story; made sense of the series. The series of time! 10/10 for everything! Chrono Cross was the best at it's time!

Chrono Cross IS AWESOME but
lets be honest. the plot is a bit convuluted...which is usual for this style of rpg but still you can normally work out the plot. I think where Chrono Cross dropped the ball was trying to cram in Crono, Lucca, and Marle. It could have *SPOILERS* taken up the story of Magus and Schalia without adding in Crono, Lucca and Marle and it would have made more sense..
Actually I sort of felt like the ties to Crono Trigger generally held the game's story back. It could have unfolded into something that was more coherent and it honestly didn't even need to be tied to the other game.
Ps, I like Crono Cross better than Crono Trigger, but I recognize that Crono Cross does have a lot of faults....

Chrono series was a work of pure art, it exceeds the boundaries of video games. Watching this really touches me deeply, every time!
Masato Kato he directed chrono trigger and chrono cross and he said, We didn't want to directly extend Chrono Trigger into a sequel, but create a new Chrono with links to the original. Yes, the platform changed; and yes, there were many parts that changed dramatically from the previous work. But in my view, the whole point in making Chrono Cross was to make a new Chrono with the best available skills and technologies of today. I never had any intentions of just taking the system from Trigger and moving it onto the PlayStation console. That's why I believe that Cross is Cross, and NOT Trigger 2. ” so chrono cross is not a sequel.

(edit: time) 2018. No matter how many years pass by, (I'm almost 30) I always go back to this and --I automatically get transported back to time and go back to being lil girl. Truly a masterpiece. I can't even contain all the emotions that come rushing forth.
Truly my favorite game of all time. I hope that the new generation will also have the pleasure of experiencing the magic that is Chrono Cross.

30 right here i grew up with a lot amazing games like chrono cross donkey kong country series final fantasy, soul reaver classic resident evil, zelda series crash bandicoot, contra, castlevania and many more. Still collecting the old school games and anime and manga as well. :)

I was 11 years old when this game dropped. Chrono Cross has that special to it that I can not put into words... hopefully kids today will be gifted with that special from a game of today.

Same here. This was the first PS1 game I played after my dad got the PS1 from a pawn shop and had me pick out a game. I thought this one sounded interesting. I'm blinded by nostalgia over this being the first one back then but I liked it better than Chrono Trigger

The 90s was by far the best era in video game history. The japanese undoubtedly knew how to masterfully craft these RPGs.
Not any more lol. Its all about modern political agenda's, sex appeal and making games have less story and more high graphic fidelity worlds you can explore for a 100 hrs. Like fuck, go back to the roots of a JRPG. Like these companies have no idea any more. Well maybe some of them do hense why there focusing more intently on remakes and remasters these last years. But yeah I have like ZERO interest in playing any sort of modern day IP.

Now a days its all sold like piece meal like some version of a complete game, only to find out that dlc is micromanaged to its consumers thuroughout the next 4 years. That wouldn't be so bad if companies did not take advantage of this system and actually go back and re-edit and have major story revisions, huge gameplay elements removed or changed, etc. Also I don't know if im the only one that doesn't notice this but with abstractional based graphics, like zone based, sprites and polygons, scale of rpgs used to be so large and the volume was amazing. Now its like most rpgs are tiny small franctions of what they used to be and the rest of it just padded out to the extreme with open world gameplay or mundane revisiting and exploring, etc. take FF VII remake and FF XV as pure examples of that.
Consequently that is whY i focus more intently on traditional style rpgs like Tales of or Dragon quest or Octopath traveler, because at least you feel like your getting something worthy in its size in terms of the scope of the world and story, etc. As technology evolves into this photo realism, 4k scalling, so to does the restriction and limitations that are placed on designers to be able to expand there rpgs.
@@Artimes. Agreed, as much as I love FFXV it has a lot of glaring flaws cause it tried to be this grand open world game with a massive story plan worked out that was all locked behind DLC. Their DLC got cancelled halfway through and they had to tell the rest through a book. Despite all this the story, music and arguably the combat are incredible and I really wish they just kept the style of FF to how they were in the PS1/ Early PS2 era as it was their golden age and had FFXV been in that style (or Octopath's HD2D) and not planned like 7-8 DLCs I doubt they'd have any of those problems and it would be in my top 5 favourite games of all time

A few moments might qualify if over analyzed. But if I try watching this without the story in mind, what I mostly get is awesome ****.
@@judgehodor2675 Yup and that's why this opening is so amazing and well made, it shows A LOT of scenes from disc 2 that would be major plot points, but it's so well made that doesn't give any piece of the experience, in the end it's just a bunch of visually stunning scenes that gives absolute hype to anyone who watch it!

31, played this game when I was like 14, still one of my favorites. This opening still gets me hyped.
Fellow 31 year-old here. I had first played Cross when I had rented it out from a Blockbuster store many years ago, and I remember having difficulty playing due to me not having paid attention to the Innate/elemental properties system; I still had fun, however.
Harle ended up being my favorite party member (other than Glenn) as I love both her character design, and the fact that she speaks with a French accent in the English version of the game, as I am of French descent.

I'll never get tired of playing those games, and almost every year I MUST replay them again. They're just... just... D: I love the Chrono saga, I can't live without them. I remember when I visited the Dead Sea and Chronopolis for the first time, and it was as if the universe were talking to me, saying "everything is just about survival, but in a really deep way, beyond time and space". It was so fucking frightening and, at the same time, peacefully. I'd never experienced something like that before. And the end of the game, representing the perfect triumph of life... It makes me cry like a baby, even now.
Also, the art of this game, mostly his music, speaks for itself. It's so deep and magic...

I was a teen when this game came out and I loved it then and still do. Today I'm a father and this song is a lullaby for my kids.
I was only 6 when my dad bought this game. Fell in love with it when I first played it and this intro was memorable. Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy IX were my childhood RPGs.

^God, these words and this song never leave my mind, ever. Chrono Cross gave me the best summer a teen could have in 2000, along with Legend of Mana and Threads of Fate. Thank you Square, you did right with your Summer of Adventure, back when you were Squaresoft. Today's games just can't ever measure up to the past, but at least series like Tales and Atelier are making strides forward.

I wouldn't say it's necessarily dead, Square merged with Enix thus becoming what they are now since 2003. SquareEnix. So there is still hope for a remake, or possibly a sequel because this game was legendary.
One of main appeals of Chrono Cross is it's visuals. And a big part of it is late 90's early 00's CGI.
the great Yasunori Mitsuda. i remember being introduced to this game by my cousin. we had Symphony of the NIght too. But this game, for me, it made me inspired and i didnt understand how it was able to do that. i didnt know what i was feeling as a kid. all i know is that i wanted to write books based on this game and change up some characters too. i started to read more and more and i even started to take up art; seriously. im in my 30s now and this game, the music still touches me and i love it. i dont care what anyone says, maybe they should make a live action film about this. now THAT would be cool, if done correctly.

it's been umpteen years since i played it. I can't remember the plot or story all that well. But for some reason not even knowing why. My body tensed up at that scene.....Now I gotta play it through to figure out why. Amazing how stories in these games were vastly more intriguing than what RPG's are today.

I saw an article saying this game was going to be moved to modern platforms so I decided to check it out
Chrono Cross was the peak of the gaming industry, when developers had that sweet sweet balance of “cutting edge” graphics that weren’t all consuming, the ability to use orchestrations instead of midis, and new game plus for dragging you in to play the branching paths different this time. 10/10 game 10/10 intro cutscene 10/10 music to match

Most people tend to think that 6 or 7 is the best, with a lot of people also considering 10 a contender...some people throw in 4 and very few people throw in 9. 8 barely gets on the radar for that....and 5 doesn't ever even get mentioned lol. MOst people ignore the first 2...and as for 13...yeah it doesn't really get considered as the best either.

What a time to be alive, I was 18 when this came out. Coming from the SNES era to the PSX era of RPGs each and every one blew my mind one after the other. Squaresoft was on fire during those days! Each game was just a visual and emotional masterpiece. It's hard re-creating that experience today.
All of these years later, Chrono Cross STILL has one of the most beautiful soundtracks going! Such an amazing game - I hope it eventually gets the remake treatment it deserves!!!

A criminally underrated RPG, just because the Chrono Trigger fans didn't recieve a sequel they were hoping for. This game is a masterpiece and I love it! I'm 28 and everytime I hear this intro I'm transported back in time as an 8 year old playing this for the very first time. 😭💖

this is for me the beginning of fantasy, the introduction to rpg / big story telling games, the beginning of a part in my life when i dreamt of these worlds... this melody, and those few words as introduction, will always be part of my life...
...all of that is this song, that and days and months of playing without having an actual real life xD!
In this intro,they combine the game story with the fate of each humans has to face in their own life.We really dont know why we are here,we cant do nothing about time,we are just wind...But we are here and its not completely for nothing.We certainly cant control the destiny,but we can guide "it" and by the same time,can change people lives for the good and for some cases,for the bad...
I loved playing this game it was fun and I loved beating the game I still go back to playing it once in awhile it is a master peace.

I still remember warm summer days in texas, hanging out the window of my room, the music of Arni Village Home playing on repeat in the background as I just sat there on the windowsill looking across the back yard at the trees and fields behind my house imagining I was on some grand adventure far out there in the world.

I am one of those who didn't like Trigger and almost skipped Cross because of that, but after I played Cross it instantly became one of my favorite RPGs.
17 years later, and this still holds up remarkably well.
This brings me back to my childhood. A time where things were more simple
For me as a kid, watching these beautiful intros with these masterpieces of songs was truly a gift from the gods, this one, along with soul edge intro are truly truly some of the best in its era, how do I miss the golden age of gaming❤
To this day no other game as ever bought tears to my eyes except chrono Trigger and this Game. Both titles in my opinion is a classical masterpiece. Two of the most unforgettable rpgs next to Final Fantasy. Chrono Cross is highly underrated. Especially since both the first and second games have such a great story. The times these titel came to be was when games were made and display so much love and heart and in most titles today you hardly ever see that anymore.
This game started a lifelong love of story and music for me. I feel so very sorry for anyone who is unable to let their imagination take them to this world.
This was my childhood game back in the day, among others. I bought this game at Toys Я' Us when I was 11 years old with my mom.. I bought 2 of them because when I read the back of the game, I somehow got confused and thought I had to buy 2 of them so when I got home and after I opened the game and read the manual, I then realized that I only needed one copy so i put it aside in my room and i forgot about it. i just found it the other day when i was cleaning and i couldn't believe it.it's never been opened. it's still in it's original packaging and i still have my receipt for it, lol
The first time I popped this game in, my mom, who has no interest in video games, stopped and watched the intro and asked "When did you get this?"
I still remember hearing this for the first time in the 90's. Man, developers really used to put a lot of soul in their games back then. Those Square, Capcom, Nintendo, Sega and Konami games had the best OST ever.
Watching this opening always made me feel like I was doing something different, it never felt like the opening of a game, or an anime or movie, it was always Chrono Cross, the entrance to this awesome world.
Even know it feel likes I'm looking at a window and it hard not to just jump through and go there again.

Ah yes, Chrono Cross. Still never played it and Chrono Trigger, despite loving both their soundtracks and stories.
Well, one of their stories.
My sister played through those games while I watched her. I'm old enough now that I could play through them on my own, but I just haven't.
Anyways, I remember she played Chrono Cross without me around a lot, so I missed like half the story, never saw how it ended, and was confused the whole time. Though if my sisters word is anything to go by, I didn't miss much, as the story made no sense to her.
I do think that this game and Chrono Trigger have got to have the best soundtracks in all of gaming.

I remember playing this game with my son when he was a kid, it has been and always will be my favorite. The music was beautiful and the story was imaginative to say the least..I won’t even debate on whether or not it was better than Trigger- all I know is that it’s an unbelievable game that deserves any accolades it gets, anyone that has ever played it would have to agree with me.
back then, those CG short clips at the middle of the game is sooo rare they feel so precious. nostalgia.
Kinda restores my faith in humanity reading these comments. I'm glad there are still people out there that love a good story and had similar profound childhood experiences and memories watching this for the first time

I consider Chrono Cross a game special to me and not because of some grandious reason, it's just that I loved every second I spent playing the game and loved every aspect of it. It's a masterpiece made with so much love and I'll never forget my adventure with it.
I think that this and the FF8 intro are the two most amazing intros of all time.
i played this game in 2000 (back then was 15), now 2020 im 35. after 20 years, all hair in my body stand up and my body still shiver to this soundtrack and game. back then when squaresoft made the best rpg ever (beside ff7). this is timeless!
Playing the remaster on switch and had to come watch the original opening. So iconic! This was the first RPG I ever beat as a kid.
gotta miss the openings like this makes the soul urge to play the game so hard i also never noticed that it makes harle and lynx seem like main charaters on the good side the way they turn around right after the serge look lol
