- TOO LITTLE TOO LATE - NIKE ZOOM FLY 6 - FINALLY A GOOD PLATED TRAINING SHOE FROM NIKE? - EDDBUD
So finally NIKE are to release the long awaited update to their ZOOM FLY model. This the sixth iteration for their plated training shoe.
But is it too little, too late from the swoosh? With many other manufacturers already with their own plated training options for several years.
Let me know your comments on my selections and what is your most anticipated running shoe release for 2024?

Saving my money for the Evo Sl $150
Better shoe without all of Nikes woke political crap.
I was a Nike enthusiast, but there's no need anymore. Most just do it better! Nice work as always though Edd! 👍
100% my position also. Spot on Steve.
I was a nike fan boy since the first vaporfly and zoomfly. But now I think Adidas is the new Nike 😂
Foams and outsoles are better imo with the adidas
Competition is great. They have to fight for the customers. That means we get better and better shoes every year.
What a lack of competition results in can be seen at the graphics card market. NVidea basically has a monopoly, and they are pricing their cards like they feel like it.
Still think the VF/AF combo puts Nike on top. Other brands may have a single shoe but Nike brings both. Plus, the new Adidas shoes haven't been worn by the masses and we are already crowning them a hit??? After 2 years of developing the AAP4, it should be better than the 3 really. Have to agree on the ZF series but I can give you an example from every brand... Boston 10/11 anyone?!?!
I had a pair of Zoom Fly 5 which I won in a competition (I don't think I'd have bought them, I'm more of a Hoka/Adidas fanboy). Unlike most reviewers I really liked them; even though they were a bit too stiff they were a great tempo shoe for me. So yes, to the new Zoom Fly 6 review
'Yes please' to the Zoomfly review
shoe still has a EVA carrier foam so i don't expect this to be any better, nike is lucky the alphafly 3 is still the best marathon shoe or their whole running shoe line would be flopping hard
Alphafly 3 is no doubt a good shoe, but recently I found Endorphin Speed Elite works very well, if not better. It's up to personal liking, depending on preference for a softer and bouncier response or a firmer and more stable one.
I'd say the Alphafly is clinging on by it's fingernails to that title as well
@@paulmulksit holds both women’s and men’s world records so I don’t think it’s barely holding onto that title
@pacoalonso373 Yes I know that, but let's be honest it's also down to the individuals wearing them that are earning those records! Brands like Adidas are right there as well, and that's what I was talking about in regards to Nike only just hanging on to that top title
I've run marathon PBs in the VF 3 over the last several months so don't discard that shoe as a banger.
One of the best videos made in this channel. Everything from the discussion of the novelty of the shoe to the comments on kipchoge are brilliant.
Much appreciated!
3:52 very bold of you to throw shade at Dripchoge!
@@MrAsthenia I just feel bad they dressed up a true legend like that. He is a humble man who should be treated with ultimate respect
You mentioned the Boston 12, I've put 400 miles on my pair so far & they're like new! Awesome shoe, well apart from the weird lacing, but I've got used to that.
Reassuring to know that I not only agree with you but also Eliud Kipchoge about the necessity of heel protection and forefoot cushioning in running shoes!
🤣👍🏼
The first 2 iterations of the Zoom Fly were great shoes, not far from the the Vaporfly 4%, but more durable and cheaper. Thereafter all iterations were designed with the intention of distancing the performance between the Zoom Fly and the Vaporfly. On this front Nike have suceeded in doing a great job!
Im glad someone else knows the truth. Zoomfly flyknit 2 was almost a perfect training shoe. It was so good you 'almost' didnt need the Vaporflys. After this however, Nike absolutely and intentionally made the zoomfly series dogsh!t so everyone would buy vaporflys for training and racing. 👍
Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2 is very underrated amongst the performance trainers.
Couldn’t agree more, love mine ❤
Will have to check this out. Have the Wave Pro original and now 2 and love them.
@@rebelsage3158 I think they are available on start fitness for about £105. Absolute bargain. I’m getting a back up pair.
Agree!!! It's a banger!!! Doubt this Nike offering or the Adidas offering will be even close!
Picked up 'another one' today on itunes for 6 quid , will give it a listen while doing house chores .. I have been going back in time (well when I was in my mothers womb) and listening to Disraeli Gears , particularly fond of Tales on Brave Ulysses which does not get enough kudos in my book (from my Gen x and beyond) for what would become 'heavy rock' a few years later.
Was almost tempted to put on my fisherman’s gear and go in the sea earlier
10yo kids in China, making the Alpha’s and hoping that we will break our PB in our local Parkruns, warms my heart.
Yes, you should review, without fear or favour!
I'm looking forward to tying this one out, I think it will good been a fan of the fly3.
Marathon Palma next week on the vaporfly 3, love this shoe 😊. So please, test the 6...😅.
Have a look at the shoe bottom left. Nike zoom next %. I had 3 pairs. This is my go to shoe.. Love them to bits
Alphafly is fantastic. That's it. That's the Nike line up.
I stopped spending on nike for some time and saved a lot of money. Still got the 5th version as good as new lying around somewhere.
Dankeschön, Sir! I am curious about the Zoom Fly 6 :)
$170 with cushlon for the majority of the midsole is mad. Cushlon was a decent training foam in 2011, but a lot has changed since then. Even that top layer of zoomx is not going to be as great as you would hope. The endorphin speed or magic speed would be a much better bang for the buck.
Nike as a brand has been hammering the 'hero archetype' for decades now, they are rolemodels at that in the world of branding actually.
and consumers will keep believing in their hero and forgive him anything, even if it's taking drugs (Salazar), bullying pregnant women (Allyson Felix), or straight up lying (the recycling scam). of course these are hyperboles but at the end of the day their branding is still very powerful. pretty sure consumers will buy this model in huge numbers, and maybe it turns out to be a solid shoe. but i'd rather they put their resources into r&d, not marketing and fancy pictures.
What was that get up they had EK in? Gave me Jedi Knight or Dr. Who vibes. Spot on with the video as always sir.
Great video Ed as always and there’s always an extra spoonful of emotion when a Nike shoe comes to town. Couple things.
1. There are still and always will be millions of runners around the world who will only run in Nike shoes and wouldn’t consider even feel a traitor if they bought something from the competition which leads onto my second point which is I don’t believe Nike give a damm about the competition in the running shoe market. The truth is their running shoe department makes up a fraction of their overall empire and is probably tucked away somewhere at the back of Nike HQ in Oregon. They sell millions of football ( soccer) boots than they do running shoes. Personally I miss the days when running in anything other than a Nike lunarglide was as alien to me as well an alien 👽. Cheers
I like a good shoe. No worries on brand. But it’s gotta be good
It's worth a review, Edd. I won't buy them though because I've already bought a pair of Hoka Mach X2. I can't remember who recommended it, a tall guy with a beard and glasses 🤔 Good looking bloke, but I can't remember his name.....😉😁 The shoe is an absolute banger though! 👍
Review it but I’m looking forward to the Evo SL.
great analysis Ed! my sentiments exactly
Yes, please 🙏! Zoom fly 2 was first carbon plated shoe. At the time I wasn't really educated on types of foams and wasn't a weight weenie when it came to shoe weights. I got the ZF 3 and was an upgrade on the fit and upper but by this time I've dabbled into different foams and brands and it just didn't feel like much of an advancement. Skipped the ZF 5. Yeah just like the Peg Plus/Peg turbo 3 a little behind the eight ball. I always wanted the ZF series to be like a poor man's VF and be like how super trainers are nowadays. I am curious but I'm not holding my breath the way Nike running has been the past couple years. Just like it's stocks this could be a downer.
I’m still running in the OG Zoomfly Flyknit. Now down to my last two boxes. Also down to my last two boxes of Pegasus Turbo ( l returned the Turbo 2 due to the tongue being too short) OG.
As for Alphafly, l’ve just opened my final box of the Alphafly OG.
All were bought at very duscounted prices when the later versions were released.
OG Zoomfly are my favourite ever shoe. Wish I could buy more and could be nostalgia but glad you’ve said this!
Just bought the Glycerin Max… setting my eyes on the Adidas Evo SL to closeout the year. Not really excited about anything from the Swoosh at the moment… like everyone else.
Actually, I'm going to do an about face after finding out some of the specs. It will be 42mm heel, 34mm forefoot for an 8mm drop and weigh 265g in a US size 10 (280cm). That's an excellent weight and is on par with the Asics S4+Yogiri shoe (Japan release only) that uses their top super foam (FF Turbo+) in combo with an EVA foam (Flytefoam) and also the Adidas EVO SL which might be slightly lighter though they are measuring using a sample size US9, 224g (40mm heel, 33.5mm forefoot). I think this will be a choice based on what super foam you prefer ZoomX, FF Turbo+ or Lightstrike Pro. If the price stays at $230 (ZoomFly 5) in Australia then it will actually be cheaper than the Adidas EVO SL $240 and would be a compelling value training/racing day option.
Ran in the zoom fly 1 and LOVED IT. By the time Nike got to version 5 it sucked. I have the 5 and had to quit it at 100 mile mark. Wondering if the Zoom Fly 6 is worth it?
Another superb, HONEST video
I appreciate that!
I'll be waiting a while before I consider the ZF6 because as it stands Adidas are taking my money once that Evo SL and Pro 4 get released 👌🏻
Tempo next % would just be better. That was the good uptempo shoe. I don't think the masses want the Zoom Fly anymore. They should just focus on the second iteration of the Tempo Next%.
In the US, the Pegasus Plus is on sale on the Barley Grey White Black, Hot Punch (style: FQ7262-001)
By the way, Kipchoge has numerous videos in the Pegasus 39
Glad he likes those
IMO Nike should have called their ZoomX line the "Nike Kipchoge" for the Vaporfly, "Nike Kipchoge Pro" for the Alphafly and the "Nike Kipchoge Speed" for the Zoom Fly. At least honor him, I mean this man basically started the supershoe development.
I would love to see a review of one, since I’m considering to buy a pair 👟🏁
Still use my Zoom Fly 3’s, always got on with them really well. Upper seems to fit my foot really well.
The only Nike shoe I'm looking forward to is the Streakfly 2. Couldn't find any info about the release date unfortunately. Does anyone know when they're supposed to be available?
No word as of yet
I'm thinking of calculating my weekly sums while simultaneously playing hockey on a more Add Hoc basis. 😂
Zoom Fly Flyknit was still the absolute best of this Zoom Fly line
Absolutely 💯. Its such a shame Nike intentionally turned the zoomfly series into dogsh!t so that consumers would be forced to train and race in Vaporflys.
That was the goat version
Evo SL is the way🎉
It just needs to be as bouncy and slightly less aggressive as the vapor fly 3, lighter than the last model and I may try it.
You're right. The Zoom Fly 4 is an 'awful react brick', but I still prefer it over the Boston 12 though. The Boston 12 nearly put me off trying any other Adidas shoes, which would've been a shame, because the full Lightstrike Pro shoes are absolutely amazing!
I had the first version of the Zoom Fly (it felt like running on wooden planks), and version 5. Both fit well, but underneath the nice upper the midsole of both shoes were pretty awful. I assume I'll try on v6, but I have very little hope that I'll like it. I'm basically done with Nike after being a Nike nut since 1978.
Would love a review of the 6. I’ve got a lot of Ks in the 5 and it works well for me, not perfect but a good daily.
Exactly
Why did nike discontinue the Tempo Next % but kept the Zoom Fly going on 6 iterations??? The Tempo actually feels like a super trainer!
I loved the tempo
Well it's Nike, they make stupid decisions all the time
Bring it back!
if you get an answer on that, find out why they stopped the wildly successful turbo after the 2nd iteration
@@nickatnite16 yes, that one too!!!
Congrats on hitting 55k
Thank you!!
Recently i bought nike pegasus 41 and i have a half marathon coming on January, and i am thinking of zoomfly 6, Any tips ?
Will have my review for the zf6 out later today
I've gone full circle back to basics, recently sold my entire carbon plated shoes collection and now running on Invincible/pegasus. With left over money I bought a Traxxas Xmaxx. New hobby acquired.
I moved from traxxas to Nike 😂😂😂
Looking forward to it
your review of the fly 5 we as spot on .they got better with use. Let's see you review of the 6 now
I’m worried about the heel support on this proposed iteration 6, a very good plus about the 5 is that it secured the entire foot including the heel … this version seems like it’s sacrificed that advantage just to look like the alpha 3
Last one Ed … can you do a comparison of the zoom fly 5 and the adidas supernova Prima
I am a Nike enthusiast and I think this release of the Zoom Fly 6 is rather strategic as the runners nowadays have different types of run, ergo, they now need different types of shoes for each run. I myself do not use my Vaporfly or my Alphafly on an easy run or on a treadmill. What do you reckon?
@@mikeinvictus2233 Got the shoe and tested it this morning. It’s a banger!
The Zoomfly Flyknit was such a good shoe. It's a shame that Nike hasn't released a great plated trainer in years.
Great point! Nike do have a lot of competitor on any type of running shoe right now. Hope they can justify the 170 dollars for that shoe at the very least. Cause if it is now worth 170 dollars... well they are done 😬
New midsole....midsole now ! Mr ED!
Yes to the review
I really like my Invincible 3, but I am keen to replace my speed shoes the Sauc Speed 2, been eying the Magic Speed but if they deliver on the Zoom 6 midsole that might just be it
Top elite runners or GOATs can run comfortably in army boots and be faster than any average Joe/Jane in the world.
Their opinion welcome, anyway I guess if they were on army's supplier payroll they probably find those boots the best running stuff notwithstanding ...
This time I'd be curious to try this one, but I'm definitely so happy with Adidas' shoes that choosing the Evo SL seems to me an obvious purchase; at 20 earth credits less, even more...
Kip could smash it even in some gym daps
Hey Ed we might be living in the era where we bare witness to the fall of nike. The last of the great 80s juggernauts.
To fall to the likes of reebok, fila, Avia, la gear, etonic, etc.
Of course I read that as "joggernauts." 😂 Well said. I always wondered what happened to Etonic. They were on lots of feet in the early 80s/late 70s.
@@4estrunr the shoe of Olajuwon
Thanks!
Thanks for the super support!
@@EDDBUD you’re welcome sir 👍
I don't get it why there is still no Tempo Next% successor... Can you recommend any similar high stacked shoe and bouncy shoe (other than Alphafly)?
The zoom fly 6 isn’t quite that. More a halfway house between the af and VF
Ed, whatever happened to the STREAKFLY ?
Endorphin Speed 1 😃😎🔥
A true classic
Going to pass on the Nikes. Super stoked with these Mach X2's right now and cycling them with the Cielo's. Check out the new album from The Smile called Cutouts. Pretty lady back but enjoyable. I have been listening to a lot of Heavier kinds of music lately again, so that The Smiles new one was a nice change of pace.
I did spot this album in a store earlier. Will check it out on a run soon
I get the feeling that most brands actually shift the majority of their products to wider, more stable, more forgiving set-ups ... Which from a marketing and sales perspective is perfect. A bit sad really. I miss the likes of shoes like the NB FuelCell TC, the OG Novablast, the OG Endorphin Speed. Part of the problem is the urge to produce a new line or version of shoes every year. Even if it's only a minor cosmetic update. Less hit or miss, more boring wannabe updates ;-)
Count me in the "Yes, I'd like to see a review of the Zoom Fly 6" camp.
Had the original zoom fly back in the day, in fact still own it. When I got back into running I picked up the zoom fly 5 at a Nike outlet. It was ok until I experienced the current vaporfly and alphafly. Once I ran in those I was ruined.... the zoom fly 5 felt heavy and slow and had no where near the bounce. I'm hopeful for the Zoom Fly 6... but I'm not buying on release day. I'll await the review feedback and then maybe. I've spoiled myself with some seriously great shoes and currently own more than I could ever wear out in the next year or two. I have no "need" for another pair of plated trainers, but I want this shoe to be good to give me an excuse to keep miles off my vaporflys.
If this shoe doesn't sell well,it will have less to do with the time it took for this to come out from the previous iteration,it'll be more to do with it being a rather bad shoe since the Zoomfly fly knit 2. It's almost since the Zoomfly fly knit 2,Nike refuses to take this shoe seriously and treat it as a flagship trainer(like the other companies have). The Zoomfly should be a respectable trainer to pair with your race day Vaporfly/Alphafly (and almost make you wonder if you should race in them),but instead it's a non factor in the training shoe game. I have zero confidence that this new version will be anything different
Some good points there
The ZF5 gave me really bad heal blisters. I hope they returned the heel padding from strip in the 6
It wasn’t the best upper
I ran in the 5 and it was fine, though the 4 didn't suit me. Fly 6 should be an improvement, plus it looks great, which is important because after 300 miles I retire running shoes to casual usage and many look too ugly. I'll buy at least a couple of Fly 6 colorways.
Definitely passing on this shoe. I can smell rubbish from a mile away. Great video per usual Ed!!
There’s a pint of snake oil going on in that ad!
It'll be £170, i reckon. And as an aside: no chance I'm buying this. If i get all fancy and do speed work sessions then I'll use old carbon plates i won't race in. As with all Nike shoes, i don't feel us nerds who spend time watching ShoeTube videos are the target audience
I just wish Nike would go back to the old formula, a dumbed down vaporfly with a carbon plate still
My dream zoom fly would have reactX and a carbon plate with a similar upper to the current vaporflys
Thanks
Thanks for the super support!
SUPER
@@EDDBUD Thanks for the top content and for the great recommendations. From the endorphin speed, through the prime x strung to the sky Paris… my collection is basically Edd’s top picks! Always on the money!
The Zoom Fly Flyknit was a lovely shoe and I still have a box fresh pair in a lovely light cream university red and sapphire black. I do hope Nike return to form with this one as most of their daily and training shoes are very disappointing when compare to the race offerings. What has a dole queue in Peckham got to do with the Spanish Civil War?
Down to Bournemouth. Jolly boy outing for me tomorrow. Not going near any buses though.
@@EDDBUD Good luck for the half! 🚀
The ZF5 felt like a brick, and the newZF6 still uses the same combination of SR-02 and ZoomX. It's likely going to feel like a brick again. 🤣
I bet the new zoom fly has the same zoomx foam that the peg plus does .
Iv not ran in the peg plus but the everyone says the zoom x feels nothing like the vaporfly or alphafly
after running 400k in the vaporfly they start to feel like the peg plus
but the geometry of the shoes is just so different, no other shoe gives me such extreme toe off
If the feel mimics the racier shoes and it seem so its will be perfect
As an enthusiastic athlete my self I can’t afford to run every speed session in my alphaflys so I would love to train in a simmer feeling shoe with a long lasting carrier if the feel is right
Pa the zoom x is a fantastic foam but sadly not that long lasting on its own
It’s out now in the uk
Based on what I've seen, it looks like a decent VF training companion for people that want to stay all Nike. No one should be running in stiff plates everyday, and apparently the plate in the ZF 6 behaves more like a nylon plate. But Nike really needs to address the lack of a training companion for the AF 3, just release the Tempo Next% 2 so I can stop buying the V1 on the secondary market! LOL
The plate is rigid enough for me. Wouldn’t want it any more stiff
I'm looking forward to it personally. But I've always had a bit of a Nike bias. It's just a brand where I like the style and any new Running Shoe always grabs my interest.
But even I have to say, the Zoom Fly 5 was pretty bad...
Just hoping Nike can bring back some of that ZF2 FK magic
"WE RUN AS ONE"✌
Whoa. How the mighty have fallen.
✌🏽💙👟
Even shokz headphones have a kipchoge version now guess he’s cashing in on his name now and why not hey
Nike had the great companion training shoe in the Tempo Next%, but discontinued it.
They won’t say it but these are Nikes version of a hybrid racing shoe for Hyrox
Nike is toast. At least in the Running category.
they'll be fine, alphafly sells out and vaporfly sells well. all they have to do is make a real trainer that can partner with the vaporfly and alphafly and they'll be ok. rightnow their trainers sucks
Available in Canada now.
why would Kipchoge wear plated racers for every run? By many accounts, most of his miles are very slow and long. I don't know, but it would be interesting to know what he does all this jogging in. I suspect Pegasus, but likely a whole quiver of various higher end Nike trainers.
Zoom Fly 6 or Pegasus Plus?
Haven’t worn the 6 yet. The peg plus is ok
I think yes do it, I want to know. 🤷🏼♂️ I actually like my 5s but they are coming to the end of life.
Review!!
I am not sure why you would train in plated shoes.
In a few more years the Zoom fly will have evolved into the tempo next% from 5 years ago
well. Regardless of the comments, I think the Zoom Fly 6 is moving in the right direction. It’s literally looks like a training companion to the vapor fly. Now looks like a tempo next%2 is definitely a possibility as a training companion to the alpha fly 3
Evo SL for me 😊
It is hard to knock Nike too much. Having tried so many super shoes and super trainers…everyone my group seems to reference back to how they compare to alpha fly or vapor fly.
I skipped the zoom x 5, but tried one a few weeks ago and I really think it got trashed because it was heavier and well, look was not great. It ran very nicely.
That said, I have been trying othershoes only because I’ve been trying to find that perfect rotation with my vapor fly 2 race day shoe.
The 6 looks great, but as you said, lets get it on foot and give it the paces.
Honestly, you’re baiting us a bit, right?
The Vaporfly 2 was standout. But this doesn’t look all that
@@EDDBUD let’s lace it up and find out!
Not one I would consider or am interested in!
I just wish Nike would go back to the old formula, a dumbed down vaporfly with a carbon plate still
My dream zoom fly would have reactX and a carbon plate with a similar upper to the current vaporflys
I don’t want zoomx if it is going to have a carrier foam, plus I wouldn’t want zoomx due to it bottoming out at 200 miles or so
Basically I wish they went back to the idea as of using the same silhouette as the vaporfly, similar/same upper, but a more durable foam that’s still feels good
