    im a 33 year old man and i lost my dad to heart failure when i was 17...here i am today a youtuber too and wished that i could still have my dad with me. Enjoy every single waking moment with your parents Alec. Make sure those memories last a lifetime buddy...believe me.

    John Alexander went by Jennie Alexander later in life. A new edition of Jennie’s book, Make a Chair from a Tree, will soon be published by Lost Art Press. The book describes the construction of this very sort of chair.

    My dads from England, I was born in the states. It was so relatable to here Alec’s dad keep correcting him when he said rear legs. It’s such a British dad thing.😂

    I would absolutely love seeing Alec teach his dad some things around the forge. He already has such a creative mind and understands form and craft, I think ye would pick up on it very easily. And then after that, you two combine your efforts to make a wood and metal piece that combines both your passions.

    This just made me smile ear to ear throughout the entire video. I LOVE how these two ARTISTS and true CRAFTSMEN showcasing, passing on, and sharing their amazing skills. I LOVE the beginning where you guys go over so many styles and techniques, and a brief history too. So fascinating. This has to be one of my favorite videos on this channel ever. AWESOME!! Thank you Steele Dad and Son for sharing this gem of a video.
    And man, that's also a beautiful workshop too.
    Huge props to the DAD for teaching Alec early (like that shaving horse jig, with an attachment where little Alec could reach of which now grown Alec STILL uses @ 9:49 LOL hahahaha, and mini-Alec pics with power tools).

      For me it was my granma and granpa. My father is ... meh ...
      When we build something and I didn't do in the perfect way at first try it always was "You are doing it wrong, you can't do it. Step back, I will do it!"
      Alecs dad has the energy of my granpa. Very lovely and down to earth. Don't know how my dad became how he is. Maybe his 12 years of military service are the culprit...

    This was a tearjerker of video for me to watch!!! I've seen pretty much every video since you were way back in your first shop! And this is the first time you and your father have worked together in a video.. it solidifies everything I've ever thought about your skills.. your dad is a great artist, and maker. you have carried it down, and brought it back full circle to him being in your videos!! you guys should make as many videos as you can! A full-blown blacksmith/ woodworker build would be amazing to watch!! Projects such as kitchen tables with wrought iron features and Wood construction would be great... Or even better you make the tools that he makes the chairs with!!?? A handmade table and chair set with wrought iron features fit for A King!!...????

Watching this work in the recent year has inspired me to buy a mig welder and today painted my rebar 5 ft high corner spiders web with spider. watching more welding videos' isn't going to improve my welding. but Alex has chosen projects that I like and hes very good , the marathons . yes im watching it again.

    As a furniture maker, please do more of these! Greenwood is a unique building style that just simply isn't around today. Very cool to see the process and how it differs so much from modern craftsmanship.

    this was the best. my grandpa was a cabinet maker. this makes me want to go up and have him teach me to make my own cabinet. honestly it would be amazing to have an excuse to see him regularly again and i need an alcohol cabinet that fits my huge amount of bottles and shows them off nicely too. thanks man

    I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Alec's dad is every bit as interesting and talented as him, and he's had a lot more years to perfect those talents.
    Those chairs are marvelous, and the technique is astounding. I love the greenwood approach of letting the wood define the final shape to a certain extent.

    I'm studying to be a carpenter and seeing this is just awesome for several reasons. Also seeing how you split the logs to the right dimensions is just awesome. I've learned several new things from this video

    I really like this one. There is always something special about a boy doing a project with his dad. You could be 40 years old at the end it is still a boy and his dad doing something together. Special moments and thanks for sharing. Ps your dad seems the epitome of a proper english gentleman.
